The Chipper had been recommended numerous times, so decided to give it a try. First attempt, came on a Monday and they were closed. Their hours on Yelp are not correct. They are Tuesday through Saturday 11am - 8pm. This is owned by an older husband and wife, so be patient! They don't do social media so the hours misrepresented are not their fault. Don't come here if you're in a rush either, they make each plate fresh! You can watch them batter and prep your meal. They are extremely sweet! Reminds me of my grandparents and the fact their still moving as they do, kudos! So I got the haddock fish + chips, which is $17. I thought that was a little steep but once you get your plate, you'll understand! The fish filet is HUGE! My son originally didn't want anything. After he tried a bite, he loved it too! We were easily able to share this single piece of fish and both be full! The fish was and chips were piping hot and you could taste the freshness! Perfect crisp on the fish, they're the definition of how it should be prepared. They have other options too. I'll venture and try others another time. But for now, I am back at the craving of my son and I to have it again...2x in one week is telling to how much we enjoyed it! You can dine in or eat out, both times we're doing to go. We also ordered the shrimp today, so we'll be trying something new. Highly recommend this literal mom and pop establishment!

A stone's throw from Katy Mills Mall, if you want to grab a great bite to eat away from the hustle and bustle of the mall, head there. Seems to be owned by an old mom and pop pair. They were warm friendly and welcoming. Food was made to order, piping hot and the house made tartar sauce is great! Had the haddock and chips and he had the cod and chips (known on this side of the pond as French fries). Both were delicious and the portions were generous. Went around the tail end of the lunch rush, so the place was quiet. Will def return if I'm in the area.

Very good quality food! Service was great. The restaurant is nice and clean. If you appreciate fresh and high quality food give this place a try. Don't expect a ton of seasoning, they let the ingredients speak and I like that about it. You don't always need a ton of seasonings to have a great dish.

They give you no sauce and charge $1 for this tiny cup which isn't enough to last your whole meal.

The food: 3.5/5 I heard the haddock is best, but they run out of it really fast so I wasn't able to try it. I got the cod instead, and cod in general is a very neutral, often flavorless, fish. In the case of cod, you have to rely on the batter and the batter was nice and crispy with a little bit of chewiness (in a good way) in some parts. The chips were excellent. The service: 2/5 They weren't running the AC in the Houston summer. And, believe it or not, it was hotter in the restaurant than outside! I was using the napkins to wipe the sweat off my face. It was inexcusable. I understand that mishaps are out of their control, but in the service industry you have to at least look like you're sorry that your customers are being boiled alive. We got zero apology or explanation. Actually, we got nothing at all as the staff were extremely dry and didn't seem like they even wanted us there. The prices for the seafood and chips are somewhat reasonable (not a bargain or anything) but you get no sauce. They charge $1 for a tiny cup of tartar sauce which is ridiculous. The taste of the tartar sauce is good, but not anything different than what you'd whip together in 5 minutes at home. I will go back to try the Haddock just out of curiosity, but other than that, I'm not really inclined to go back again. My suggestion: If you want some decent fish and chips from here, call it in for pick-up. And it seems that's what most people do anyways.

Found this place on yelp, as soon as we walked in the door the service was exceptional. The cashier helped explain the difference between the Haddock and Cod - I saw all the reviews about the Haddock being better, turns out it's a bit sweeter and less fishy. Honestly a phenomenal fish after trying! Was a little hesitant about the curry sauce, it reminds me a lot more of a gravy with a whisper of curry. Hope this place gets good business because the fish is PHENOMENAL!

KATY, TX / BRITISH / 07-08-22 / DINE-IN DINNER +The cod fish was very fresh. No fishy taste and cooked perfectly. No pieces were dry. +The chips were amazing! Love that they do not put salt on it. They have salt, vinegar, and ketchup available on each table. -They charge for extra paper plates. -The tables are really high, not level, and the restaurant is not really kid-friendly. -The tables and chairs were quite sticky and not really clean. -Limited drink options. -$4.00 minimum to use credit cards. What we ordered: *1 Cod + Chips 16.47 *1 Chicken Tenders 15.00 *1 Tartar Sauce 0.92 *1 Irn Bru Soda Bottle 3.24 *1 Vimto Soda Can 1.85 *2 extra paper plates 2.00 Total: 42.74 Overall: The Fish 'n' Chips are one of the best I have had in the U.S. I would definitely go back, but may have to settle for takeout since the restaurant space is small. Would love to see more drink options and additional non-fried food options.

What an absolute pleasure it was to find The Chipper, for 15 minutes that you wait to get your food is more than worth it for what you receive a perfectly cooked piece of fish with some great chips/fries, the curry sauce that I ordered on the side was absolutely perfect for the dish, if I had to give a downside to something it would be that they don't have fresh iced tea but at least they don't pretend with canned ice tea. The staff was extremely nice and it was well worth the trip from Houston to Katy to get the best fish and chips I've had in the Houston area

    Cod? HUGE piece of fish!

The fish is incredible. Huge portions. The chips...they are ok. I guess Brits like greasy, soggy steak fries. If so, this is what you will get from The Chipper. The chips did taste better with spicy Whataburger ketchup. I enjoyed the fish. The batter was a bit too much for my wife, but I liked it. The meat was flaky, not fishy tasting. The huge portion is filling, possibly large enough to split with another person. We will return, perhaps next time just for the fish. My wife said it was difficult to find this place, but look for a small sign in the window with a British flag. Maybe a bigger sign is on its way?

I have never been to Britain, but I am a foodie, and I can say with reasonable certainty that this is the only authentic fish and chip shop I have been to in the US. This is definitely the only one in Houston (I know because I searched). They had perfectly fried fish that was like a foot long, and crispy yet soft chips (fries), and I got the tartar sauce as well as the mushy peas. It doesn't get more authentic than this.

Really great fish and chips! Nice and crisp batter and the texture of the fish is exactly how fish should be. Love the tartar sauce too! The portions are very large! And that is a good thing because the prices are a bit high unless you share. One fish and chips meal was plenty enough for two. They ran out of haddock and their pies by 6pm on a Saturday night but thankfully the cod was great so no worries. Maybe they run out because the food is so good! They said they often run out of food on the weekends. Their drinks are soda cans or water bottles. The inside is very small with about 4 tables that seat 4 people and then a couple of walls with bar stools and small bar tops running down them. See photos. They have British flags on the walls and tables but other than that it's a simple place with not much visual flare. They put all their energy into making great food! This is a great find in Katy near the mall! Not for a nice dress up meal but for a simple casual meal shared with a friend or family member, it's perfect! We will be back!

My usual Haddock dinner and I felt like a double order of fries. I save some to put in my air frier.

    Do they sell beer?

Not that I saw, maybe one British beer that I didn't see the name of but mostly sodas and water.

Will you be open on Friday April 8th? We stopped by last Friday and it was closed. Thanks

They will be open barring any staff issues. Last Friday (1 April 2022) they had staffing issues and sadly were not open.

    Do you deliver?

No they do not. Just great English Fish & Chips (there are other foods too)...

The selection is a bit more limited for lunch, but the price is lower than dinner as well. Being AYCE, I wouldn't expect the highest quality, type, and cut of fish, but what they had was pretty solid, tasted fresh, and was delicious. A minor complaint would be they had no sashimi option, even for the tamago which I personally believe is eaten best without rice, but that's just minor stuff considering the good value here. As much as I try to find a reason not to give this place an outstanding rating, if I compare it to the AYCE category of restaurants, it did everything right. They do have a regular a la carte menu, with a selection that looks like a treat in itself. As for me, I highly enjoyed their jalapeno bomb to start. I highly doubt they used snow crab, tasted like imitation crab, but I enjoyed it nevertheless and got another order at the end. I tried a few nigiri while I was here, with eel being my favorite (and thank goodness for no bones, which was lucky because it's eel). Their tacos were an unexpected standout and is worth a bite or two. Using sheets of nori and frying it to it holds up like a shell is pretty genius and more places need to do this. I had a good time with their Burning Alaska signature maki, which has salmon as the main star. The smokiness from torching was a killer! Their curry reminded me of S&B, which might very well be the mix they used. I was a bit disappointed to not see fish katsu as an option considered it's a sushi place, but I can see the katsu curry selection being a good option as a comfort dish. I wish I had the stomach space to try out new stuff, but maybe next time. Wish someone would post a photo of the salmon skin salad, because I'm a bit curious about that!

The meat was cooked perfectly and the amount for each ingredients were given generously. I also really loved how you really can taste the smokiness from the bite. As for the pasta, I thought that it was good but not the best. It was starting to get a bit heavy with the amount of cheese and I do wish the cajun flavor could be a bit stronger. The chicken was also on the dry side but it's still pretty decent. Overall, this place is okay. Service could've been a bit better since it took a while for us to find someone to help us on our water refill and check.

While randomly Googling, I remembered Boondoggles and decided to give the 'old place' another try. My first visit was for a dinner with classmates from UHCL; my second was with my brother. The eatery looked practically the same as it did nearly eight years ago. Its dive bar meets German beer hall vibe is still very much alive, and the place was still bustling with people. I came in with fish and chips on my mind, but a lengthy scan of the menu led me to the Florentini Chicken, while my brother ordered the shrimp po-boy. The Florentini Chicken was really good, and I think it's a solid choice for the health-conscious. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly crisp. My only wish was that the entire dish had been a bit larger, as the mashed potatoes were gone in just a few spoonfuls. On reflection, while the Florentini Chicken deserves a try, I'll probably stick with pizza next time. I asked my brother how he liked his shrimp po-boy, and he had no complaints, so I'll take that as a sign he enjoyed it. Price-wise, while the costs may have risen over the years, they were not unreasonable.
