First time ever going here and I had a good time. Food was good and atmosphere was light and fun. I ordered the mahi mahi grilled with the key west seasoning. it was well made and tasted good. Only complaints is that when our food came they messed it up and we had to wait to get the rest. Seemed as if the staff was having a little bit of a ruff day so I understand. Honestly was not impressed from the start when someone that lives in the neighborhood across the street said it was hit or miss here. The company, atmosphere and live music was very enjoyable, but other than that my favorite part of the dinner was the chips and salsa. I stared with the lobster bisque and it was hot at least but not that great. I ordered the white fish tacos and they were bland as can be. Even with the added lemon and green onion sour cream I just was not a fan. My drink was overpriced and overly sweet. Our server, I think his name was Cole, was also not great which was a huge hit on this post. He not only forgot to take someone's order he then argued with the table about what someone had ordered when she told him it was wrong. It's a cool place to meet up for drinks and live music. Decent food. Nice vibe. Friendly service in service. I wasn't very hungry, so I ordered the shrimp skewer appetizer and a chopped salad. The shrimp weren't as large as I thought they'd be and they were overcooked and dry. The chopped salad was decent -- a bit too much dressing for my taste. The dressing completely overwhelmed the island. My friends ordered the fried shrimp basket and the catfish on the bone basket and really enjoyed them. Bottom Line : I haven't loved any of the food I've had yet but I do love the "Island" vibe. One of my friends loves this place. She raves about the Mahi Mahi dinner. So far I've had: A fish special, called the Unicorn Special - OK NE Clam Chowder - good Shrimp on Fire - OK Onion Straws - pretty good Shrimp Fettuccine - OK The Mahi Mahi dinner - good So why 4 stars? Because it's a great place to sit back and relax outside on their huge patio, have a few beers, listen to the Steel Drums being played and enjoy the fun and energetic waitstaff. It's one of those places that has a "Regulars" feel to it - and those are some of my favorite places. It's got a "Bahamas's / Tropical / Island feel to it, from the decor to the live music to the menu specials. Run from the food, the service, the music, oh... and from the 500 exposed wires dangling from a panel by our table! The salad, honestly, was not too bad; although not riveting, it tasted like your average Greek salad. The grouper, on the other hand was terrible; Bland, tasteless, boring! The appetizer portion size was also very small, and the most insulting was that it was $14, Market Price. The fish tacos, so underwhelming; no taste, only ate 1, even though our last meal was 6 hours ago! Service: The service also underwhelming, given that the waitress never wiped our table, as requested, despite there being obvious water rings on the table from the last patrons glass and food crumbs. Atmosphere: Basic bar and grill setting, ambience lacking, seems to cater to one demographic, per music selection, and lack of diversity among patrons. Also... there was this wall panel with hundreds of exposed wires within an arms reach from the table we were seated- a definite safety risk! Recommendations for Fish on Fire: - Garlic powder, salt, pepper at minimum for seasoning fish. Who the hell is in the kitchen?! A lot of times restaurants close to hotels tend to lack customer service; however in regards to our server this evening (Jackie) that was not the case. She was attentive and prompt. Jackie had a cheerful disposition and offered suggestions and was glad to answer our questions. The food was delicious. I ordered the Fobbers Original fish tacos and they delivered! Lightly battered and loaded with flavor, the green onion sour cream was a nice touch. Prior to the meal I had CAW chowder; hearty with robust flavor. On more than one occasion I overheard them mention charities through out the night which is a good thing. I can't pinpoint any blatant negatives on service or food quality, but boy howdy they band or collection of guys that played on stage were ROUGH! I am an avid live music attendant and musician myself which is what made listening to the gentlemen butcher some classic jams difficult. Go to fish on fire for the company and the drinks. The bartender was super friendly and held conversations with all of the patrons will making sure no one was waiting for a drink. All of the people in the place seemed friendly. They host live music although when I was there they did not have any. Food was okay. The free cup of bisque for the yelp check in was not so great. The Alligator bites were okay & the key lime pie was not so great either. Maybe I was here on an off day as some of the photos look a little better than what I had. I ordered a steak because I'm not big on seafood. The steak was extremely salty, tender but salty. I'm sure my blood pressure sky rocketed halfway through. I just couldn't eat it. 2nd time here with wife this time. My first visit was on Greek Night and I enjoyed the food and drinks at the bar and wanted her to experience the place. Unfortunately this visit was sadly disappointing. Things started OK with appetizer and the Maryland Crab soup was good again. The beer was off or flat and waitress replaced it but still off. Then it went down hill from there. After talking our order, the waitress got seated a very large party out side and we barely saw her again for the night. food came out over cooked ( ordered rare sirloin and it was medium. Waitress didnt even make it back to check on how things were. I went to the bar twice to get drinks and the waitress came in looking upset from the party outside. As I looked around the restaurant there were 2 other wait staff with only a couple tables and not very busy at all but neither stopped to ask if we needed assistance. We finished dinner and waited another 15 minutes before going to the bar again to ask for the check. The waitress then came back very apologetic and explaining the big party to us. While I understood the delay and situation, I mentioned that if she was overloaded it would have been smart to ask for help instead of leaving us stranded with empty plates and without drinks. I think there is a lack of management here and that is sad because the atmosphere and food is not bad but this visit will probably make me forget this place soon as there are so many other choices in the area. read more

First off after reading some previous reviews I'll start with this is more of a bar or casual dinner. It's not fancy and the napkins are paper so if you're looking for high class this isn't the spot. This is one of those small local places that aren't formal at all. We hit happy hour on vacation so grabbed a couple drinks. They had some brands that being from the Portland Oregon area I wasn't familiar with, but was glad I tried them. Had a couple beers and a shot. For dinner I had the bacon burger with Swiss. It had a bit of a char to it but that just added to the flavor. It wasn't a fancy gourmet burger but was tasty and only 10 bucks, with fries and coleslaw. The biggest surprise came at desert. We ordered a single piece of their famous banana cream pie. It was surprisingly way better than expected. Large enough to share (but don't) or eat solo. I regretted not grabbing a second piece but felt better about my sweet intake for the day. I would recommend this as place to grab a decent burger and a drink with friends or family. read more
