We really wanted to love this place, and honestly, the food flavor is there; everything we tried tasted great. The problem is you almost need a magnifying glass to find the actual fish you're paying for. * The $32 lobster toast is delicious, but it's more "hint of lobster" than lobster dish; lots of toast, and butter but microscopic amount of lobster. Oh, it's loud. * Same story with the fish and chips: incredible taste, super crispy, but it's about 70% breading wrapped around the thinnest sliver of fish known to science. * Service-wise, everyone was genuinely friendly, but it took about 30 minutes just to get our drinks, which is a long time to stare hungrily at other people's plates and contemplate life choices. * The vibe feels like a place that could become a favorite once they sort out portion sizes and speed up the bar. If they beef up (fish up?) the portions and tighten the service, this could be an awesome spot. For now, come for the flavor, stay for the comedy of how little actual seafood you get for the price. read more

Common theme here on the reviews, but majorly overpriced for small portions, taste on most everything was a miss, and just overall a less than stellar experience. For a hot spot area of E ATX that was in need of a good seafood joint, I was excited to hear of their arrival and opening. I work close by so was excited to venture in with a co-worker, but by the time the meal was over that excitement has waned. Staff was relatively nice enough, and the restaurant itself is nice (albeit loud), it's really just a food and cost issue. Look, I know times are tough and prices are higher on everything, but the amount of "crab" in the crab roll was not worth $30 when a good portion of it was more so the binder sauce and less so the meat. We also had the fish & chips and while it was fine, it was a tad on the greasy side compared to other f&c dishes in the ATX region. All in all, I understand this is still a new restaurant, so over time I hope the kinks get worked out. But based on price point vs portion size, I can't say it'll be a "must return" visit to test it out again unless the grapevine speaks enough positivity into existence or things turnaround on that front. Everyone in our party said their food tasted really good. I had the dungeons crab which was excellent. I highly recommend.

We came in at 4:25 on a Monday and were sat in a few minutes, we left at 6 p.m. because the service was so slow. No one checked on us for extended periods of time, the oysters didn't come with all of the sides, and things that should have taken minimal time like water and wine took 15-20+ minutes. We hardly made the order in time for happy hour and when we asked if we could a singular additional drink on the happy hour pricing because no one checked on us, they denied us. The food was great but the service was so bad I wouldn't recommend even coming. read more

The space is tiny and excruciatingly loud and crowded. They charge $10 a head for canceled reservations and give you 10 minutes late or they cancel. The tables are fine, but the narrow high-tops with backless stools and no footrests are ridiculously uncomfortable with hardly room for the food. Fire the person who designed them. The outdoor tables are on the sidewalk in the middle of the 6th street traffic noise and party melee. Drinks are too pricey and the food is expensive. They advertise as a neighborhood place to come often. Not likely unless you like to spend $80+ for every meal and have to reserve in advance. Considering the prices one would expect a somewhat nice ambience, but the place looks and feels like a dive bar with many, if not most, of the diners attired in shorts, old jeans, T shirts, midriff tops and ball caps. Really? Now, for the food. The branzino on giant beans was absolutely delicious, as was the fish part of the fish and chips. The bread and butter was also very good, but $12.50 for three slices of bread? The thick fries were actually crunchy like Cheetos, not good, and the tartar sauce is not tartar sauce, it was like mayo with some herbs, and no tangy pickle. The clam chowder was thick and rich, but seemingly devoid of clams. The service was good, friendly and attentive. So, a mixed bag, but not a place I'm anxious to return to. read more

Absolutely amazing food. If you like seafood, forget about Clark's, Perla's and everything else you think it's good in town. No shade to any of those as they also have good food, but nothing even close to this. The lobster toast, the crudo, all of the conservas, etc. Everything we tried was absolutely amazing and well balanced yet simple. Justin and Nicole are wonderful owners and hands on. They came and introduced themselves to my table. They made everyone feel special and were stopping by every table to check in. The ambience is absolutely wonderful very lively and everyone seemed be having a great time. The place is beautiful, and the art is well curated. We were there to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday and they definitely made her feel special. They sent delicious honey pie and cook a couple of dishes. I would absolutely recommend this place. Went for a late lunch, only a few people in the restaurant. Pleasant service, had the mussels and a glass of Rose' Mussels are $27, bare bones. Bread or fries extra. Ordered fries for $9 more and a tiny glass of wine $15. Mussels were fine, nothing great, same with the fries. Bowl of mussels was too small to dip the fries in the juice while eating so had to remove mussels and put on separate plate which was annoying and caused the mussels to cool down. $62 for a quick lunch (including tip) was way too pricey for the ambience which included paper napkins and mediocre food. If you are looking for amazing food and a super fun, lively environment, this is your place. I came here with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and it did not disappoint. Everyone from the host, to the servers, and owners (who stopped by our table to personally welcome us) were friendly, knowledgable about the entire menu, and responsive. I will definitely be back, this is now one of my favs. Highly recommend the lobster toast and the Crudo but you just can't go wrong with their thoughtful, unique menu. This is a real review, not a soft opening fakey. We ordered a bunch of raw items to start. Crab claws at $17ish were so scrawny. The tins were tiny. Liked the clam one but not for the price. The boquerones, raw scallops and raw clams were strong tasting in a bad way. I am a fisherman and eaten seafood like this all over the world so I know better. The beans in one tin were reminiscent of fabada beans I ate all over Asturias but the portion size was so small here. The crudo swan was decent but the trout lacked all flavor. The fish and chips were inedible due to excessive salt (and I love salty foods). The chips were the best item I had. Very standout fluffy inside crunchy out, well seasoned. The clam chowder needed salt and brininess plus a little more cook time for the potatoes. The lobster toast was mid...the lobster meat was mushy and not fresh firm texture meat. Same with the oysters in the Rockefeller. Just mush. The raw oysters were good however. The fish sandwich (off menu) had same fish batter salty issue. The burger was way over sauced and the housemade pickles so strong and sour that the entire burger got dragged down with it. Could not taste the beef through the sauce and pickles. Fries with the burger, this time smaller cut were very good, crispy, well seasoned. The broths for the clam entree and mussels mariniere were strongly wine tasting and bitter herbaceous. Ive eaten these dishes all over France and these examples were awful. It is pretty easy to make a balanced broth for mussells mariniere to dip bread in (bread is good from Sour Duck) but these were bitter and bad. The johnny cakes were slightly charred which made them bitter. The butters had fancy ingredients but could not taste them. I got fooled by the "cabbage salad" and ordered it since I love cabbage. Was expecting something different but got coleslaw. Why not just say coleslaw on the menu? The room is bustling and loud vibes if you like that. Service was pleasant although we did have a snafu at our first attempt to dine here and the hostess was rude the first time. read more

Pleasantly surprised after reading reviews is a wild understatement. First of all, so glad we chose to sit at the bar because Jordan was the cherry on top of a great experience. A dozen oysters, a ceasar salad, anchovies, smoked pickled muscles and lobster toast, 4 total drinks for less than the expected budget. Not to mention the quality was one of the best if not the actual best I've ever had. Already texting my friends on the way home setting up the next visit. It is exactly what you would want from a high end restaurant meets surf shack by the ocean. I'm a huge seafood lover, so I've had some good seafood to be fair. But the food was just a little lacking in flavor to me. I loved the oysters and clams, as well as the burger. The chef specials and appetizers (which to me should be the most important items) tasted like nothing to me. Worst customer service. We arrived and waited to be seated for happy hour, the bar was almost full but there were empty seats in between groups of people. Another couple arrived 20 mins after us and the server told them they'd be happy to move people around so they could have bar seats. We were not told it was an option for people to move around so we could sit at the bar, but the option was offered to the new couple that came in. Really disappointing that we then missed happy hour because they didn't make any effort to accommodate us like they could others. It was really off putting for the staff to be so rude. read more

This was our first visit to Fish Shop. We made a reservation for an outdoor table and on arrival were offered a table indoors. We accepted the offer and were seated at small corner table and found the space between tables somewhat tight. Nice decor and ambience although the noise level was high and it made conversation challenging. We started with a couple of cocktails which were brought out promptly and well prepared but pricey. The food quality and flavors overall were really good but the portions were small considering the menu prices. We are ok with smaller portions but expect the menu prices the reflect that. Oysters on the half shell (ordered a dozen) were fresh and flavorful but only came with their signature louie sauce which was just ok. We prefer to have a selection of sauces and had to request cocktail sauce, their only other offering. We found it interesting they had 5-6 different offerings of clams across the menu selections but only two types of oysters offered on the half shell. We had the mussels mariniere and fish and chips for entrees. The mussels were tasty but did not come with bread to dip in the broth. We asked for bread and was charged $9.50 for bread service and they brought a hunk of bread that was far more than what was needed for the task. Fish and chips were really good but again the portions were small. Ordered a bottle of the Michel Bregeon Muscadet, the lowest priced white wine on list at $70 which was excellent. I am a wine industry vet and this bottle sells wholesale for around $18. Why the steakhouse type 3.5x ++ markup and the lack of affordable offerings? The high markups were consistent across the compact wine list and discouraged a second bottle being ordered. The service was attentive and friendly. The final tab with a generous tip was just over $300. We left wanting more and most likely won't be returning. There is better value to be found around town. read more
