So happy to have a Fish Shop in Oceanside! While I'm normally not a big fan of places where you order at the counter, the line moved very fast and then they bring food and drinks to your table. Service was excellent by all. Scallops were cooked perfectly. Hubby liked his Pineapple Express taco. The calamari was good too. A surprisingly good margarita too! I look forward to returning and trying other dishes and seasonings. The atmosphere of the indoor/ outdoor seating was really wonderful too. Great addition to our food scene. I have been to the Pacific Beach and Encinitas fish shops in the past so when I heard that this one had opened in Oceanside, I wanted to try it with friends who lived nearby. We came on Thursday for oyster night and there were a few people in line ahead of us. The line moved pretty quickly, and we each ordered a little more than a dozen oysters. We then went to the bar to order wine. It was a bit confusing because there was no list of what the wines were. It was just the bartender telling us the kinds without brands. He was a little bit gruff so we didn't want to ask too many questions. We each tasted a wine and chose one of the two 2 whites we were offered, then we took a seat. The restaurant is a big and open area and the windows were all open. Shortly thereafter, our oysters were brought to us, and the staff was attentive about whatever else we might've needed. The oysters were delicious, but there was a ton of shells shards in them, which really detracted from the oysters themselves, having to pull them out of your mouth with every bite. They are a great price, but it would really be much better if there was a way they could make sure not so much broken oyster shell bits were in each oyster. 3.5 stars read more

To put it frankly, it wasn't worth the wait. My wife and I waited but probably 25 minutes just to be told we can sit at the bar to order food. The fish and chips were... okay. Nothing really to scream about so I'd give them 2.5/5. The fish fell apart and the breading fell off every time. The fries were always pretty basic and had nothing special about them. The clam chowder wasn't bad but also didn't really have much clam in it. It tasted good though. My wife got a salmon plate with rice and veggies and the rice was plain white rice that looked mushy. We also had to ask for more teriyaki glaze because there was maybe a tea spoon or maybe the lightest brush of it on it. I'd say the best thing we ordered out of everything was the spicy dorado taco, however, the menu listed it as mahi mahi. So was it dorado or mahi mahi? Idk, it had a bunch of stuff on the taco so I couldn't tell the difference. I'd say this food was quite over priced for probably the most mediocre food you can get. If you want good fish and chips I'd recommend Belching Beaver or Harbor Fish and Chips. Pretty bummed I waited so long and paid as much as I did because I left pretty annoyed. read more

Went here during their soft opening. Ryes and Grind, the restaurant that used to be in this space, will always have a special place in my heart, but Oceanside Fish Market really surprised me. The service was great from beginning to finish. All the staff were very helpful and checked in on us regularly. The menu is super customizable so it's great for folks who like their food a particular way. I went for the coconut shrimp and my wife ordered the mahi salad. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and it was served with a sweet and sour sauce that complemented the shrimp perfectly. The mahi on the salad was cooked perfectly and the salad toppings went really well with the mahi. We enjoyed our meal on the patio. The weather was perfect and it was a wonderful experience. I've eaten at The Fish Shop before and have always enjoyed the food, which is why this experience caught me off guard. I ordered a crab cake, and when it arrived, it had a noticeably fishy smell. Fresh crab should not smell fishy, so I brought it to the staff's attention. A staff member came back and told me the chef said that's how it was supposed to smell. What surprised me most was that there was no effort to address the concern--no offer to replace the dish, no alternative suggested, and no attempt to make the situation right. I wasn't looking for a refund; I simply didn't feel comfortable eating something that smelled off to me. I told them I didn't want the crab cake, and that was essentially the end of the conversation. In my opinion, if a customer raises a concern about the quality of a dish, especially seafood, it should be taken more seriously. I've had good experiences here in the past, so I'm not sure what changed, but this visit was disappointing and left me feeling that my concern was dismissed rather than addressed. read more

Like quality local non frozen fish for a fair price. It just doesn't exist in Oside. Don't get me wrong ,meat here is quality but half my tacos were bone dry, so the freshness was a moot point. I tried 6 tacos, poke, apps, ceviche, like I said I wanted to like this place. And all of it was so boring and bland. Have visited the Fish Shop in PB and, eventhough I think it's pricey, we wanted to come to the new location in Oceanside. We were there around 7pm last night, a Tuesday. Big menu posted outside and inside. Definitely a lot of options and customizations available. There is a walk up counter where you place your order and then you find a seat. We paid around $85 for our meal. My daughter ordered the grilled shrimp and chips. I got the plate with sea bass (salt and pepper), Mac salad and green salad. My husband got a jumbo shrimp taco and a small order of ceviche. We got a water, a fountain drink and a Societe IPA. Pros: my plate: the sea bass was cooked perfectly and was delicious. I liked the Mac salad which was light on the mayo and my green salad was a good size with delicious citrus vinaigrette, capers, leafy greens, a few cherry tomatoes, slices of cucumber and pickled red onion. I love a fresh salad. My daughter liked her fries (and my fish) and my husband really liked his ceviche. He would come back for that alone. The tortilla chips were really good as well. The cons: the shrimp were overcooked so they were tough and didn't have the best flavor unfortunately. My husband said his taco was a veggie/cheese taco with 3 shrimps. For around $9 he was quite disappointed. I shared some of my fish with my daughter after she gave up on her shrimp. I can attest to the fact that the shrimp were not good and we left a few behind. The service was great, the staff was friendly, the ambience was laid back. This building is super cool and we like people watching on Coast Highway. I'm willing to come back and try some other things on the menu. Probably won't get the plate dinner again at $27 but some of the other items looked interesting and worth a try. read more

Ugh I really wanted to like this place but it was just sooooo average. The tacos were bland, they forgot our drinks, and they didn't have any good hot sauce. The ambiance of the Fish Shop is really nice. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor seating also has gas heaters for chilly nights. The staff was friendly. We had the fried fish n chips which was 3 1/2 small pieces of fish and a basket of fries. Pretty good but I think I will try it grilled next time we go. Also got coconut shrimp and it was also pretty good. The dipping sauce was very tasty. The menu is really good, I'm going to get some Mahi Mahi next time and try a dinner One note, parking is on the street and can be hard to find a place close by. read more

Fish shop is always a solid choice for fresh fish and good vibes. I'm so glad they opened in Oceanside! I've been the Encinitas one several times, and this location is just as good. We ordered tacos (typically my go to) - I love the TKO taco I got it fried this time, the mango salsa is sooo good. Then we split the coconut shrimp (another very good decision) and ordered a side of vegetables. Service is always friendly and it typically doesn't take long to get your food. Only downside is I do think it's on the pricier end but for fresh fish, it hits the spot. read more

As big fans of the Encinitas Fish Shop my wife and I were very excited to try this new location. Needless to say we were happy that the taste and quality of the food was as great as the Encinitas location. While wait staff was very helpful I was not impressed with the fact that they only have one register, making the way to order way too long. There is plenty of seating and the decor has the perfect seaside vibe. Unfortunately the Fish Shop has no control of ridiculously loud over compensating motorcycles that dive by every few minutes making the seats in the front not the best decision. Overall the quality and taste of seafood is worth coming back to. read more

The service here was phenomenal. The manager came out of his way to greet us up front when we walked up to check out the menu. He explained how the menu worked and we ordered our food inside. I ordered scallops with chipotle seasoning with flour tortilla taco and a lobster taco with garlic butter seasoning and flour tortilla. They were both very flavorful. I loved the taste of the flour tortillas with both tacos. The lobster with the garlic butter seasoning was so good with the avocado added to it. Nothing took away from the juicy taste of the lobster. My favorite of the two was the scallops, with the chipotle seasoning! I'm definitely coming back for that in a plate next time with a side of rice and whatever other side that's good. It was soooo juicy and the chipotle seasoning went perfectly with the scallops and the cheese in the taco. I also ordered the seafood lumpia it came with rice and lemon, after garnishing it with lemon the seafood lumpia went perfectly with the jasmine rice and green onions on top. Over all we had the best experience here and highly recommend coming by and giving it a try! Especially if you're a local looking to get some quality seafood for lunch! I also really loved how they had pictures in the wall of Oceanside, especially the strand I love driving in with the cottages in it. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon, ordered lobster tacos, which were good on flour tortillas, the tortillas were not soft so I suspect the tortillas were not fresh. Had the calamari which was terrible, rubbery and overly cooked, not fresh either. Not sure I would come here again, service was good, nice clean restaurant. My friend told me not to leave a review but I must due to the rudeness of the server who took our order. I ordered fish n chips with a side of coleslaw. I didn't get it So,I asked a different waitress said, oh I dont see the order. Then we asked the original waitress she said oh I will get you one without acknowledging she messed up in the first place after we paid for the food and left a nice tip. She brought the coleslaw then as we were eating our meal maybe 10 mins later she rudely asked, so how are you going to pay for the coleslaw? We were in shock and just looked at her because again we thought it was paid for and she never admitted she forgot to add it to the order then my friend said "we ordered it you heard us and repeated the order and we are eating, I will pay for it if I wasnt charged when I'm done". We were disgusted with the fact that she didnt acknowledged her error or as a courtesy just gave it to us. But my friend was going to pay anyways. Then about 15 mins after that the Mgr Andrew asks us again, so how are yiu going to pay for the coleslaw? Omg! Really we couldn't believe they asked a 2nd time. It was so rude!!! So again my friend said, we are eating, I will pay for it when I'm done!" which she had every intention on doing so. But it seemed like they were so desperate for a payment for a small portion of coleslaw. We were astonished! Did they think we were not going to pay? This was awful customer service. This place requires you to pay for your meal before you get your food and its a sit down restaurant. My friend doesn't like to complain but I am. It was so rude and poor customer service. The staff needs a lesson in customer service, hospitality and learning how to treat customers if you want repeated business ess and a good word of mouth which I will not do!!!!
