The Plant City strawberry cake is THEEEEE best strawberry cake I've ever had. Would love to have an entire cake for my next Bornday. Divine! I love fish bones because they make their cocktails from scratch. If it has juice in the recipe, they will juice that fruit before serving it to you and this makes all the difference in the world. I will continue to come here as long as they continue to juice, everything rather than serving us processed juice from concentrates. We have been repeat guest over the years but this past year- customer service is lacking. Steve- the WAITER is fantastic but the other staff on hand (host and management) is just not anything to sing about. Unfortunately the manager is unhelpful- offering her words of apologies (I do believe she is sorry she cant help us) but the team is unwilling to accept a called in order. We Received an holiday gift card, which the website for ordering online does not accept. We were advised to pay with our card and then get a refund which is bad business. We then called to see if we can pay over the phone or place our order over the phone and were refused. It's that or walk away OR drive in, order in person, wait 30 minutes to get your order, why? Also, the online ordering platform enforced (not optional) a $20 tip. I tip for good service and do not like to be forced to pay regardless. I apologize, but I do not want to pay company employees when the company should be paying a competitive wage AND Ill tip if I'd like. Its to go! I understand the chef is cooking the food and the host are bagging the food- so is McDonalds' employees but they are not collecting a mandatory $20 tip for bagging my order. I am a generous tipper but Ill go elsewhere for respect. We choose to walk away and go to another Talk of the Town restaurant. This was the second day in a row we were having troubles. Food has always been good, but when did it become ridiculously expensive? $6 for a simple non-alcoholic unsweetened iced tea. $26 for an Old Fashion that was $10 just 3-4 years ago. $24 for 6 medium-sized blackened scallops. $23 for 7 dang-bang shrimp - 3 years ago, we could enjoy 12+ of these shrimp for $7 at HH. Desserts were outrageously high: $14 for a small slice of Key Lime pie. $14 for a ramekin of Creme Brulee. Unconscionable. There were five of us, and nothing was hurried or pushed. Each meal was perfectly cooked and presented. It was our anniversary so we even got a visit with a special sushi treat from one of the managing partners, Matt. Top notch service! We showed up with a group of 8. I hadn't been to Fish Bones before. Bone Fish, yes. Great ambiance inside and the location they had us in was nice and quiet to talk. Six of us ordered the Chef's Combo, which gives you four options: pork chop, chicken breast, Jumbo fried shrimp and Trigger Fish. It also came with a nice cheesy bread and salad. All for $39. I opted for the pork chop and Trigger Fish. Pork chop was huuuuuuge. Great flavor. Trigger fish was okay but kind of bland. We also had the Cauliflower app. An entire head with cheesy awesomeness baked all over it. Yummy! Service was mixed. The server was super nice and provided a lot of information. And it seemed like we had at least 3 managers stop by to ask how things were. But the delivery was off on refills. My wife loves unsweet tea with lime. The tea came. No lime. And it took at least 15 minutes to get to our table. Then a different server came back with a plate of cut up limes... nice. But she had to ask for a refill on the tea and it eventually came 15 or more minutes later. Her ice had melted. She asked for more. Never came. She said "forget it," and just drank water. I arrived a little early and was greeted at the bar. At the recommended of the bartender, I enjoyed a Gary's Smoked Old Fashion (I didn't name it) - it was excellent! Dinner was equally amazing. I am very very picky with my seafood since we are a fishing family and eat fresh fish constantly. This fish was DELICIOUS. My husband and I were just here for our anniversary dinner. It was, by far, the best dinner experience we've ever had. I say experience because what we had was a completely awesome experience, from our absolutely fabulous and attentive server, Mitchell, to our wonderfully engaging conversation with the Operating Partner, Matthew, to the above and beyond delicious meal. We couldn't have had a better anniversary dinner anywhere. Our meal began with the Colossal Blue Crab Martini which was so fresh and delicious. Mitchell recommended the truffle butter, which was such a nice compliment to the fresh crab. But, if truffle butter isn't your thing, you will enjoy the cocktail sauce and aioli that comes with it. My husband really enjoyed the clam chowder (filled with fresh clams). We then had the house salad and garlic cheese bread. One word: YUM!! Because it was our anniversary, the manager brought us a tasting of tuna tartar on tortilla chips. Oh my goodness! How tasty. Next were our entrees. Me: halibut; my husband: triggerfish. Both in a Beurre Blanc sauce. DEVINE!! Our sides: lobster mac nand cheese and a Colossal Sea Salted Baked Potato. Both of them were so good. Our last course was the Redemption Bourbon Salted Carmel Brownie. That was the best salted carmel ice cream I've ever had. The brownie was pretty good, too. Stopped in to FishBones. Last time I was here it was great. Today I am so disappointed. My grouper for $43 was burnt on one side and over done (dry & tough). While the waiter was very good, friendly and professional; the manager, Sam, was not. He seemed more combative and confrontational than trying to be helpful. My husband and I haven't been to Fish Bones for many years due to the fact that the place went downhill; however, after some research and looking at their current menu, we decided to give this restaurant another try. Soooo happy we did! The inside of the restaurant has been totally remodeled and is gorgeous. Except for the outside dining area, we didn't recognize it. They have quite a number of different dining areas including the outdoor dining. Beautiful bar area (with beautiful high top tables, totally separate from the other dining areas. Now the food...delicious, delectable and plenty of it. I had the Seafood Scampi with shrimp, clams and scallops. My dish was scrumptious! My husband had the 16 ounce Prime Rib (medium) came out perfect. He also had a loaded baked potato, which was enough for two people. What really made our eyes bug out is when they brought his side of broccoli , (this is no exaggeration) there was enough for FOUR PEOPLE! Needless to say, we took a lot of food home. I had a wonderful cocktail before dinner called a bacon blue cheese martini...yum and some delightful Moscato wine with my meal. Oh, as an appetizer, we both had escargot, which we love. It was scrumptious! Gary had a cocktail before dinner called, Gary's smoked old fashioned, also very tasty The staff is very professional, helpful, attentive and courteous! We hosted our mom's 90th birthday party here, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The event was a combination cocktail party and dinner in one of their private spaces, and the people, food and space made it memorable (predominantly the people and food). 1. Food: in an area not exactly known for cuisine, the food was great! We had passed apps in addition to a multi-course dinner, as well as a cake from the Glass Knife (which was soo tasty). People repeatedly commented on the quality of the food, and I was on the same page - everything I tasted was good-to-great (didn't waste space on the bread). We figured the fried lobster would be basic because...it's fried, but it was flavorful even without the sauce. The most surprising were the scallops: restaurants regularly ruin them, and these were perfect and packed with flavor. Hats off to both the recipe creators and the chefs of the evening. 2. Staff: top notch. We worked with Jessica in the months leading up to the event, and the on-site team - Kimberly, Dylan, Daniel, Casey and Michelle - thank you for taking such good care of everyone, and most importantly, for making mom feel special. 3. I ordered the chef special, which was a humongous Caribbean lobster tail, and it tasted fantastic. The Dang Bang shrimp was also pretty good. However, I was disappointed to be charged for butter, as it's something everyone typically eats with lobster. For such a nice establishment, it felt like they were nickel-and-diming. That said, the service was exceptional. My waitress was phenomenal, and two managers checked in during my meal. I would definitely recommend this place and plan to return to try other menu items. We had two appetizers shrimp and scallops, both were delicious! The house salad was extra special and delicious. Went during happy hour. The good drinks and craft beer you would want is of course not on special. Only 2 craft beers on happy hour and wasn't the popular good choices. I tried a sample of the craft beer with a hint of grapefruit in it and it was not cold at all and wasn't good in my opinion. Tried an old fashioned during happy hour and it wasn't good either because it had way too many original bitters in it instead of orange bitters and all I could taste was bitters not bourbon at all. Bitters can be very strong and a little bit goes a long way. Please don't use crushed ice in an old fashioned. Please use a large or round cube for a true proper old fashioned and the drink should not have a red color to it. Didn't taste any bourbon in it. Prime rib steak sandwich is on the happy hour menu and it actually tastes and the texture of a Arby's roast beef sandwich. The beef is shaved like a Arby's sandwich and actually tastes like one. Comes with fries. The oysters were very small and was not cleaned properly. Was not worth $18. The dang bang shrimp was the winner of the night and other $5.00 tea. Tried to give this place another chance but not sure I will come back $62 for happy hour is pretty pricey for happy hour plus tip. Like the atmosphere. You can sit inside and outside. Hostess was very nice. Would have liked to see a printed list of happy hour drinks on the menu instead of select martinis, select beer and select cocktails. Wow! What a great surprise it was to visit this restaurant. I was in town for a meeting with two important clients this week when we can for dinner. We were staying at the neighboring Marriott and none of us had ever been to FishBones and we had no preconceived impressions and honestly didn't really have high expectations. We'd just gotten off planes and were looking for a place to eat. From the moment we entered, the three of us were treated like the most important guests. Our server, Latroy, was a true professional. He knew the menu inside and out and made all of us feel welcome. The manager who came by (I can't remember her name) was also fantastic. Oh, and the food was delightful! Everything was beautifully prepared, fresh, and very visually appealing. I think we all took pics to share with our significant others who weren't able to join us. My clients also inquired about holing future events at FishBones and Latroy was equally great at showing us the rooms available and discussing potential options. It's obvious that the staff care about a job well done and ensuring their customers have a great experience. Fish Bones never disappoints! It has been a while since going there (over a year). It's nice to see that the service, menu, and atmosphere is still on point. Honestly, I forgot how great this restaurant is! I highly recommend reservations if you are planning on going on a Friday evening or the weekend for dinner. Something that is new, or I do not remember is the $38 Chef special. For 38 you can choose 2 proteins and it comes with bottomless house salad and bread. The portions are huge! I had the char-grilled pork chop and fried shrimp. The shrimp was enough for dinner and the pork chop could have easily been for 2 people. The house salad was also amazing. I am not sure what their inhouse salad dressing is, but it is very good. They have a nice selection of signature cocktails. Yes, at signature cocktail prices. But again, you get what you pay for 100% at Fish Bones. This was the first time sitting outside on their covered patio. The patio has full service the same as the restaurant as well as a full-service bar. It was a little louder than I would have like just because we were sat close to the live acoustic singer. But you can request a table that is further away. The outdoor patio is large with plenty of regular table and high-top table seating. We came in for happy hour and one of the items we ordered was the oysters on the half shell raw and also smoked. 4 orders at $17 & $19 for 6 oysters on each platter. They should have never made it to our table. They were awful, so small about the size of a dime. The raw were not even shucked properly and the smoked oysters were burnt so when we let the waitress know, the manager sent another 6 smoked oysters and they were even smaller and worse. We love going here for happy hour! alex is a fabulous manager who got us a great table outside by the fire pits. Happy hour has fabulous sushi and great drinks from 4-6. On the main menu we love the lobster mac and the mahi. for happy hour, we always get the dragon roll, and a spicy, tuna roll paired with the wontons (shown below). The lobster Mac is a " side" but it's definitely big enough for two people to share and we usually have leftovers to take home. The ambience near the fire pits outside is very calming. In decades of fine dining this experience was new to me--feeling that the proprietor was purposely scamming me. An unpalatable vein steak was attempted to be passed as a NY Strip, which is shocking because I can't imagine anyone being pleased with the majority of it being connective tissue and fat. Separately, a prime rib arrived that was cold to the touch (literally refrigerated cold!). The "Hawaiian triggerfish" entrée was a bit of a conundrum as we are not sure what iit actually was--too large a fillet to be the popular Hawaiian reef triggerfish (humuhumunukunukuapua'a in Hawaiian), and too tasteless to be a grey triggerfish. Perhaps another imposter? In any case all three entrees were embarrassingly bad. I felt really bad for our server who was very attentive. With that said the sushi rolls were good, the cocktails creative and well crafted. The bread service was truly fantastic. The dessert and service did not disappoint. My wife and I stopped into FishBones to take advantage of their happy hour prices for appetizers and drinks on a Saturday evening in late October. It has been a while since we have been here; however, not much has changed. We were greeted promptly and chose our seats at the bar. Shortly after, the bartender took our drink and food order. We ordered the Dang Bang Shrimp ($10), Lady Dragon Roll ($12), and two draft IPA's ($5 each). We received our drinks right away, and the food was out in about 10 minutes. Our dishes were fresh and delicious! I love the Dang Bang Shrimp - crunchy fried butterflied shrimp coated in spicy sauce. I could eat these all night long, not the best contrast with an IPA, but who cares! The Lady Dragon Roll had the perfect amount of sweet/savory mix: Eel sauce, cream cheese, and avocado to offset the heat of the Dang Bang shrimp. I highly recommend stopping in during happy hour as both of these menu items price for $17 each. We had a great experience at FishBones; however, dining is pricy! Two beers and two appetizers cost $40 minus tip, which is a full tank of gas for some people.
