I triedbout their maru special two rolls with a salad or soup. Of course I choose the salad. My hubby choose the miso soup. The two rolls Itried were the California roll and the chicken tempura roll. The California roll had fresh ingredients like avocado, shredded Kani, and cucumbers. The chicken tempura roll was filled with tempura chicken, avocado, and spicy mayo. My hubby ordered the chicken teriyaki bento box. I got to try the chicken and freshly steamed rice. The chicken was juicy and the teriyaki was nicely mild and not to sweet. The bento box was the perfect amount of food for him. He actually left stuffed like a cabbage roll. Lol Both rolls were yummy with no need for eel sauce, spicy mayo, or soy sauce on the side. I will also include that the fresh ginger slices are to die for. I could be a ginger snob though. Lol Highly recommend the spring rolls as well. They have the perfect crispness and flavor to them. Went to a great sushi spot on a Friday night. Located in really nice place. They have their shared parking lot, but there was plenty of room to park. We wanted sushi, but we don't eat it very often so I looked at some pictures and I chose five different roles for three people. We also had the chicken teriyaki with double rice. It was more than enough food one of the ones that stuck out really good to us was the Fiji apple roll The young lady that served us that was from Tennessee was super sweet and patient and provide a great service made sure our drinks was full very kind, lady The restaurant was clean well organized, and the bathrooms were were decent. Came here to try them out..... it was not good. 1) the service was good. The server was attentive. 2) The Salmon eggs had what looked like freezer burn or signs of going bad. They did not taste good. I ate one but could not stomach the other. 3) the fish was okay. 4) the ambiance was a bit dark. Need better lighting. Over all I will not be coming back to this place. Strong first impression of Mary Sushi for lunch last week and a huge thanks to Zach - one of the best servers I've had in a while. My garlic steak with rice, veggies and white sauce was good, though the steak was just a bit too salty for my taste and the rice slightly overcooked. The restaurant was attractive and there is definitely a following. But Zach was the real stand-out. The only server, he was efficient and very courteous and I noticed he seemed to remember what patrons ordered before and asked if they were interested in the same. I've come here a couple times, always for the lunch special. The staff here are super friendly and nice. The inside of the restaurant is nice. We started with the soup and salad which comes with the lunch special. The salad is good and they give you a good amount. Both the miso and onion soup have no flavor, they just taste like hot water. My friend always gets bibimbap when she goes to Korean restaurants. So she wanted to try it out here. She said it didn't really have any flavor to it. That the meat wasn't marinated/seasoned like it usually is at Korean restaurants. I ordered from the sushi lunch menu as I always do. I got the eel crunch roll, spicy salmon roll, and the maru signature roll. They were all really good! My favorite was the maru signature roll. I like how their spicy salmon roll isn't minced up like a lot of other places. I've never had a bad sushi roll here and I think they do have some unique rolls. I wouldn't order any of the other entrees here but I will be coming back for more sushi. read more

On this occasion wanted to try their Korean pork. It's really good! Very spicy but tasty. Wish it came with typical Korean sides like kimchee, bean sprouts or Korean spinach but it is a sushi spot mostly and can't expect everything. The gyoza was ok, not great. If you purchased dumplings in an Asian market, this is exactly what they taste like. You can tell when they are self-made, and these are not. I'll be back to try other Korean dishes too. We celebrated our "adopted" son's going away to Navy bootcamp at Maru's today and it was a fantastic and memorable experience. We reserved a table for 130 pm on a Saturday and made sure we could bring a cake with us. My family lives in Orlando and Nico and his siblings live in Geneva so Sanford was a great convenient place where Mick could enjoy his favorite foods which are Asian. Maru has sushi, sashimi, Korean (my favorite), Japanese and a wonderful extensive menu some of which you won't find in other places more common. The food was excellent, my other son tried Bibimbap for the first time and we had an excellent last meal together until after his bootcamp. If you are in Sanford or visiting Towne Center mall, stop by, relax, and be ready to be served your best Asian meal yet. read more

The restaurant was empty as we entered however, it was a great experience. We had excellent service. The waiter came over, took our order, brought out the drinks within less than two minutes. Our Augie Dash tofu was basically fried tofu with the toppings, which was not bad. It was pride fried to perfection. The tofu was soft in the middle. The salmon skin was perfect with the salmon skin crunch, and the creamy avocado added, made it perfect balance. The sashimi fusion I would skip upon my return to this restaurant because it although it was fresh, it lacked flavor next to my kitchen just order, sashimi plate and get the full piece of fish. The Maru volcano was actually very flavorful with the crappy and it was warmed and baked to perfection. It was a nice and quiet atmosphere with very low-key music in the background. read more

I had veggie gyoza, sweet & hot roll, and the veggie heaven roll. The rolls were great! The gyoza was small and did not have great flavor. Be sure to ask what is vegan and what isn't. Some of the unlisted sauces aren't vegan. The place is pretty tiny, and only one server that I could tell. The server was friendly, but he seemingly hasn't interacted with vegans much. I told him we were and wanted to confirm what was and wasn't vegan and he said, "Uh oh." I explained how we found this place on Happycow, and it would be helpful to label the menu (V, VT). I enjoyed Maru but their sushi is not great. I found their price to be fantastic but this was certainly a "get what you paid for" quality of sushi. My rolls were tasty but falling apart before i even picked them up. Also asked the waitress which speciality rolls had masago, went with her recommendation and then the roll did not have traditional masago but another type. She ended up saying we can pay an extra $1.50 for a side of it but she said it included masago so I was quite confused when I saw some other odd type of masago. The saving grace was the sunomono, delicious, everything was fresh. I'd give that dish a 5/5 but the rest was mediocre. read more

We had a pleasant experience here for an early Saturday evening girls dinner before moving on to a bar. I was surprised at the amount of diners for the time. They are adhering to covid protocols pretty well with QR code menus, freshly cleaned tables, and available hand sanitizer. We were greeted and told to sit wherever, which is ok, but with all the other diners it was a bit of a search to find a table where we wouldn't be right next to anyone else. Our server was pleasant, brought us water right away while we waited for our sake. My friend ordered the large warm house sake while I chose to try something new to me and ordered the apple infused cold sake. It took much longer for me to receive mine, with the servers explanation that the chefs were busy with a large sushi order. That was a bit confusing... Why was the chef needed to pour the sake? LoL, that was a new one for me. Once our third in the party arrived we ordered our food. I got the tuna kobachi (a dish I MUST try at every sushi place I go as it's my favorite) and the Heathrow roll, which was a departure from the normal spicy tuna roll I get. One friend ordered 2 of the Mexican rolls, and my other friend got the Lion King roll, The Beast roll, and a third roll that escapes me. We enjoyed how beautiful the rolls and kobachi were, and appreciated the neat sake glasses/pitchers they have. The tuna kobachi was great, I would definitely get it again. The Heathrow roll was ok, but one of them upset my stomach pretty badly. I would eat here again if I was in that part of town but it's not a place I would go out of my way for. My boyfriend and I were craving sushi, but are not from this part of town. Upon searching through Yelp, we came across this restaurant which had great reviews. We came at around 9pm on a Friday and we were the only customers there. I honestly was surprised despite their good reviews and variety of sushi rolls. One of my favorite aspects about this restaurant is that they have so many rolls to choose from! Even if you're not in the mood for sushi, they have tons of other entrees. My boyfriend and I, however, were very hungry for sushi. We ordered 7 rolls LOL - the honeymoon, casino royal, ocean's 11, Maru signature, samurai, crunch eel, and Maru volcano. All of the rolls were delicious, but my favorite was the Maru signature and Ocean's 11. The plating and presentation of these rolls were beautiful. The Maru volcano comes out in a big volcano-like structure with a flame in the middle -- how cool! I really hope this restaurant continues to do well because it's honestly underrated. During our visit, there was one sushi chef who crafted all 7 of our rolls in less than 15-20 minutes. I almost felt bad with how much we ordered. Upon arrival it takes a matter of minutes to discovery there are a lot of repeat customers which is a great sign of things to come. The menu is extensive. The flavor combinations are spot on. The servers are bright and cheery. The soups were okay, nothing special. We had an onion and a miso. Neither were great. The miso could be bettered with perhaps just a tad more miso and spring onions. We ordered 10 rolls for 2 of us. The test rolls were the Phili Roll and Shrimp Tempura. Both were excellent. The sushi rice was perfect. The rolling was not overly tight which demonstrates restraint and control by the owner / sushi master. Then we had fun with the rolls. Bacon Roll, Circus, Lion King, and five others. By far our favorite was the Lion King. These are not traditional sushi rolls. These are exceptional sushi rolls. No overpowering flavors. No bad after taste. No wondering if it was fresh. The purest satisfaction comes with the bill. You just had a great meal. It was well served. Simply excellent. Anything I say about Maru will only diminish your possible opinion of them, but I have to leave *something* in the review. I started off with the calimari salad. Good sized portion that had some smaller and some larger tidbits in there with a tangy vinegar. Easy to eat wtih chopsticks while I watched the sushi chef putting other orders including my own together. And then my two rolls were ready. A "Fusion" roll which was a mix of different fish inside of a skinned cucumber. No rice here, just cucumber and fish and yumminess. Awesome. And yes, I ate the cucumber. My waitress said that most people don't. What a waste! My other roll was the fuji apple and tuna. It was good. Fresh tasting, lots of tuna and delicious. I've never had apple in a sushi roll before. Try it! With it, I had a beer I've never had before. Ginga Kogen, an unfiltered witbier. Excellent with sushi! Good service, great food, excellently assembled and presented sushi. Great place for sushi, I always go here for takeaways, however few weeks back when I ordered takeaway, I've seen that the sushi chef wasn't wearing a mask, I'd skip going back until the Covid situation settles down or if the chef starts wearing a mask. It's a shame I can't go to this place that has great sushi for the reason that the chef doesn't wear a mask. My husband ordered the Mari Signature roll and I chose the Sashimi Salad. All the fish and shellfish were fresh! The octopus was too chewy for my liking, but that's usually how raw octopus is.
