This little gem of a place off the main road on a canal. We were welcomed and to watch out for the step. Stepping down into dinning&Bar area but looking through the back Windows is an outdoor patio&yard area on beautiful Florida day for lunch who is sitting inside. not me! They told us to pick our seat outside since we were the first to arrive that day for lunch. Adorable space they created outside and even a deck and dock on the canal to choose to sit for lunch. Soft music playing and we had it all to ourselves for about 20 mins and then it filled up. The gentleman was happy, cheerful and kind. Great selection of seafood on the menu. We chose the redfish sandwich, slaw&fries. He did tell us everything is homemade even the sauces. The redfish was moist, flavorful with a good amount of fish, the redfish was not fishy at all. Very good. slaw was delicious little sweet had no carrots but that was ok did not miss them. Tartar&cocktail was fresh and you could taste that it was homemade. French fries looked like they just peeled the potatoes cut and lightly fried them perfectly. A little crunch on the outside and soft in the inside. The story of this little gem of place. old owners had it for 36yrs. Retired that in it self is a special thing. Then sold it to another guy who kept everything the same and restored the buildings and spruced up the place a bit along with getting a full liquor license. For many years my wife and I would meet friends at Fisherman's Cover for prime rib on Thursday nights. There was nothing even close in Citrus County. My wife and I always get rare doneness and the prime ribs we received there were perfect. However, something has changed this past year. We went to the restaurant tonight for the prime rib after calling to reserve rare cuts. I thought it was odd when the person who answered the phone said they always cook prime rib dinners to order; Nobody cooks a prime rib dinner to order. Good restaurants cook prime rib either in an oven or a smoker for hours. They end up with a finished prime rib that has interior sections that range from well done end sections to whatever doneness the restaurant was shooting for...blue rare being the lest doneness. Tonight my wife and I ordered rare prime rib. What was delivered to our table was well done. I went ahead and ate mine, but my wife sent her prime rib back. The one she finally got still looked well done on the surface but was rare inside. Neither my prime rib nor my wife's prime rib had any real flavor. They were like cardboard. We will not be repeating this experience. read more

We picked Fisherman's Cove because my sister wanted steak and seafood. We sat outside but moved inside after getting whiffs of sewer. We found out it was prime rib night so I ordered that and she got a ribeye. She also ordered a piece of halibut to go with hers. I ordered an 8 piece shrimp app. or else would have had to order individual shrimp at $4 each. We ordered Jalapeno balls as app. and salads with meal. Everything basically came at once and no problems except all the other tables had rolls and I asked about them, the server said oh they are $2 extra. The meat, both meals, was tasteless and my prime rib was small. The seafood was good. We ordered hush puppies and they were over fried but edible. Definitely nothing special or worth the drive out there. If rolls cost extra, why didn't all the tables eat theirs. I had to get napkins out of my purse after we asked twice for them. I don't know what would have improved the meal but better service is a start. They kept asking tables as they came in if they preorded prime rib. Weird. read more

This place is on 44 just outside of The Villages - a 15 minute drive from 301. If you are driving to fast you might just pass a great little restaurant. This place was not busy on the night we went and basically had the entire restaurant to ourselves however this does not change my opinion of the food. We ordered one of the Specials - Cherry Stone Steamers. Served on a plate with a small container of the steaming liquid and another container of drawn butter. The Steamers were of nice size and when dipped in the steaming liquid tasted of wine. This is one of those Specials you can take it or leave it. Also ordered - Grouper Dinner, Crab Cake Dinner and Scallops Dinner all served with your choice of potato (Baked or Sweet) and your choice of Coleslaw or Salad. We all selected Coleslaw which was very good - kind of like KFC but better and you know it's homemade. Our server stated the Coleslaw has been made daily for the past 20+ years. Also served with dinners Hush Puppies. All of the food was served HOT, which is a rarity these days and good. The Grouper was prepared Grilled with Lemon Pepper seasoning. The Crab Cake dinner was full of Crab meat and seasoned well. The Scallop dinner had the larger size Scallops - 6 to an order also seasoned and cooked well. It seems that new owners took over as of the first of the year and are on Wednesday thru Saturday hours it seems. The Thursday prime rib sells out and needs reservations to get it. We were here on Friday and it was busy. Had to wait 20 minutes, but once we got seated it went quick for drinks, order two haddock fish fry with baked potato and coleslaw and two diet cokes in cans. We headed out to Fishermans Restaurant last night for an early Father's Day celebration with mixed results. This small establishment is located in Inverness. Although it could use a thorough clean and modernization, the waitress was super friendly and the food not bad. We started with the shrimp and lobster bisque which was tasty with just a hint of a sherry-like flavor. I had the fried shrimp platter with green beans and baked potato. It was okay even if the potato was a bit dry. My husband really enjoyed his blackened mahi mahi. The rice and beans were average. Our son also enjoyed his soft shell crabs but didn't care for the beans. The real problem, is that the portions are tiny. It was fine for me, but my guys left hungry. It's also very expensive for such a small amount of food. We paid over $90 before tip for three of us with no alcohol. I will say the star of the show is the dessert. It was insanely good. We split a slice of coconut pineapple cake which is the best thing I've eaten in quite a long time. So good I think I'll order one for Thanksgiving. Overall, I'm not sure the interior of the restaurant, the quality of the food or the expensive price makes this restaurant worth the drive, but I'll do it in the future if only to take home some of that magnificent cake! read more

If you see this little restaurant on the side of the road going into Invernes, it's worth a try. Me and my family went on the first Tuesday they were open and we were the only people there (which was great don't get me wrong), the gator bites here were the first gator bites me and my little brother had had ever, I wasn't even planning on trying them in the first place. The cakes they had were amazing. Everything was well cooked by chef Noel and our server Allie was amazing, restaurant was nice, me and my family loved looking at all the gators in the river below us. It's a really small place but totally delightful. In fact the smallness of it adds to its charm as does all of the fish décor from plugs and lures to mounts and poles. My service was top notch and the food really good. For my meal I had their Grouper Cheeks. You don't find them that often as the cheeks of a fish consist of that tiny nugget of tender, deliciously sweet meat located just below the eye of the fish. It's a real fish delicacy, most often prohibitively expensive, though here only $13.99 and properly prepared as well. Service is always top notch. The food has always been excellent until tonight. I just spent $68 on a meal, I couldn't eat. Prices went up 40% and quality went to pot!!! Crab puppies have changed, nothing like before. All you taste is Green pepper, no evidence that there has ever been any crab close to them and the grouper cheeks are now thin pieces of fried fish.
