After what I went through with Northern Virginia car dealers, I realize it seems ridiculous to give a car dealership a 5 star rating. The NoVa dealers with 1 and 2 star ratings deserve them...or less. Fitzgerald's was recommended by my fiance's mother. At first I was really hesitant to buy out of state because I thought I might get double taxed. This was my first ever car purchase from a stranger, and obviously, my first ever purchase of a brand new car. However, after wasting 3 straight days (including a Sat. and Sun.) dealing with terrible pushy dealerships, I contacted Fitzgerald's. I dealt with Daniel Garfield, who treated selling a car like a respectful business transaction, not a stupid game of hide-the-ball like all the other dealerships I dealt with. Daniel was a genuinely nice guy with a good sense of humor - not like the 2 salesmen at Passport Nissan of Alexandria who double teamed me and, at the end when I was walking out, acted like I was a moron for walking out on their great deal. It helped that Fitzgerald's online price quote was $600 less for my Mazda3 than any NoVa dealer, AND included the ~$795 freight cost in that quote (unlike all other dealers who add that cost later). Furthermore, their processing fee is $199, whereas NoVa dealers are about $500. That's a net difference of about $1,700 less right there and more than enough reason for me to drive an hour up to Frederick. I got there and he had the exact car ready (correct VIN, unlike some dealerships that "made a mistake" and don't have the car you want to see). I loved it and was eager to get the buying process done. They had me out of there in about 2 1/2 hours total, including test driving, getting financing through Mazda, and a quick review of the manufacturer warranty and owner's manual. Overall, going to Fitzgerald's was like spending a couple hours at the library, unlike going to other dealerships which is like jumping into a tiger cage. As long as I live within 500 miles of a Fitzgerald's I will never so much as go to the website of another dealership. But don't take my word for it. After doing your own car research (www.truecar.com and http://www.kbb.com/new-cars/ are great sites for REAL new car prices), go deal with some dealerships. Then, when you go to Fitzgerald, you can appreciate that they have a volume business model instead of one that tries to cheat you for the first 95%+ of the sales transaction. read more

The valet kid hit my door against a cement stair and wedged the door on the step. Had to put the truck in drive and move it to get it out. Always something with this place....Grrrrr. I told the manager and he put touch up paint on the door. Kid came and apologized but also said he thought I did it. I had shopped around looking for the right car, right deal and right dealership. I did the Costco referral and got an immediate response. The salesperson was very flexible in accommodating my schedule and purchasing requirements. He covered the features of the vehicle to confirm my requirements. Having already been to another dealer, the Fitz folks made it clear they were going to earn my business and while I was prepared to go through the gauntlet of salesperson, sales manager, business manager, etc., there was none. Straightforward to the point I was in some disbelief of whether I was done or not. After a thorough new owner orientation, full tank of gas, but not quite a full charge, I was headed home with no buyer's remorse and a new Volt. Within the next couple of days I got a couple of follow up calls, emails to get my opinion on how well of a job and any follow up required. This made it clear they would close the gap on any missed expectations. Based upon the quality of the dealership thus far, I'm looking forward to a long term customer relationship. I have bought three vehicles with Fitzgerald over the past 5 years. My wife and I have had nothing but great things to say about them. We just brought our 2017 Passat in for its 10,000 mile servicing and we were disappointed to learn that the loaner program which we loved so well was no longer available. We live 70 miles away so it was quite the perk to be able to tour Frederick, eat, shop, etc while the car was in the shop. This alleviated the trouble of a 140 mile road trip. Confusing also since they gave us a loaner for our 5000 mile servicing. So. I would imagine we will discontinue our pilgrimages to Frederick and just get our car serviced in Winchester or Hagerstown. read more

Update: I had a problem with scheduling an appointment. The system allowed me to schedule an appointment to wait for my car, when normally that wouldn't be allowed. I was told at the dealership that I would be called the next day to come back and pick up my car. This of course was a problem for me because I hadn't set up a ride with a friend or anything, I didn't want a stranger to drive me to my home that I was staying alone at and because I wouldn't have met the requirements for taking one of their courtesy cars. Luckily, my neighbor came and picked me up, but I was very frustrated that I was put in this situation and that everyone seemed to just look at me like I was nuts to think I was waiting for my car, when I had the confirmation right in front of me that said I would be waiting for my car. After posting my original review, Fitzgerald offered me a $25 gift card for gas and I was also called by a very nice customer rep who was very apologetic and explained that there must be some sort of glitch in the system, and that they would get it checked out right away. The system DOES allow oil changes to be made at the time I did, but should not allow for other services that late. For some reason, it must have allowed me to make the appointment because I requested an oil change. I understand that technology sometimes fails, but I wish that I had been treated a little differently at the service center. I knew it was late and I could see that people were winding down and wanting to leave (there were technicians sitting at the front desks talking about going home), so I felt as though I was kind of being pushed out. No one was rude, I just didn't feel like they handled it quite as well as they could have. However, I am happy with how things were handled after the fact. read more

After a lengthy research process of what midsize suv to purchase, we settled on a Mazda CX-5. We made an attempt at purchasing the vehicle where we test drove but were not able to strike a reasonable deal so I went the internet shopping route. The variants of this car are very simple and it is easy to identify specific vehicles that match your selection at the various dealers around Washington DC (I searched from Fredericksburg to Frederick - our home is near Fairfax). Upon identifying a match at the dealers websites it is also easy to solicit pricing of exact matches. Getting clear concise responses is nearly impossible. The only dealer that responded with their best offer that was fully inclusive of all fees and charges was Fitzgerald. Andrew Wagner was our sales person and he was responsive, concise and personable. June Rutkay was the sales manager and I corresponded with her briefly during the email portion of the process but Andrew handled the full transaction. It was simple and painless. Do not waste your time in the close in dealers around the beltway. Unless of course you enjoy the bizarre world of auto sales negotiation that is stuck in a sales training model developed prior to 1960 - if so than I would recommend either Browns in Fairfax or Priority in Tysons. Update: We had some dealer added items that had to be ordered and installed. The appointment process was easy, they provided a loaner during the process and everything went well. This is a very well run shop. Also, they handled the license process and when the tags came in I received a postcard - I called and asked them to send them to me and they did via fed ex. My car was initially diagnosed and serviced here with a discount and I was very pleased. However not even a month later I began to notice the same problems occurring with the engine light flashing. Obviously I became very concerned and wary of the service. Took my car back and the customer service was very unhelpful, argumentative and defensive about the previous service. I will not be returning based on this experience. Also second diagnosis was almost triple the price of the first when the issue had supposedly been resolved. read more

SERVICE Department is on Point!!! Military spouse here so it's a nightmare moving from place to place every 2 or more years and trying to find "your place" or just a place you trust. So as you can imagine reviewing sites like Google or Yelp are my friends. I was over seas for over 3 years and my Chevy Equinox was not doing so hot. Check engine light coming on and off, Service AWD lights on and off and more. I came in and talked with Chuck Rice after reading a review on Google Maps that he was the man to talk to. Very friendly and professional. I've been to Service places with people that act like they're too busy to hear whats wrong, "drop off your keys" and we know best. Chuck took the time to listen to everything that I felt and knew was wrong with my car. Didn't stop me but to ask more discovery questions and wrote everything down. We made an appointment, I dropped off the car. Next day I got a call and then per request send me an email so I can see the big list of things and price to fix it. I picked the things that I knew had to be fixed and some things I could do on my own. With the amount of work that was done to the car they managed to get it to me in under two weeks. I was very impressed with the work. Edit: There was a nice touch that I forgot to mention and it's that little thing that shows they care. Never have had this happen but when you get your vehicle from repair the clock is always reset because the battery is disconnected. They actually adjusted my clock back when it was all done. The quality of an organization and its personnel is truly demonstrated during and after those unfortunate, very bad, service experiences. This turned out to be the case for me during my last visit to Fitzgerald Auto Mall, Frederick, MD. The servicing of my vehicle did not go well; my problem was not resolved. After a few days of anger and of being disappointed with the inadequate maintenance actions, I returned to Fitzgerald and was introduced to Mr. Tim Phillips. Tim was not involved with my original experience in any way; I only dealt with a subordinate service advisor. Mr. Phillips handled my situation with the utmost professionalism, expertise, courtesy and kindness. I have taken my car here twice for service; they are always fast and professional. I was involved in a very minor accident last week, and they worked with my insurance so I hardly had to do anything to get it covered. Tom called me daily to keep me updated on the status with the insurance estimates/repairs. I only had to pay my low deductible and received my car back within about 4 days (had transmission, brakes and exhaust pipe replaced). I really appreciate all that they did for me this week to make sure my car was well-taken care of. They really do a fantastic job at Fitzgerald. read more

I'm so irritated with these people trying to take advantage of me. I have a sunroof leaking issue, which I recently discovered is common in my vehicle model. So instead of checking my leak situation they want to remove the entire interior of my vehicle and pay $500 to take it apart to find the leak and after that the cost would be tremendous. They replaced my O2 censor and didn't remove the water in the tire well but removed the water from my carpet with wetvac. I took my car to another shop and they cleared the clog for FREE!! Water now draining properly from sunroof. But now because Fitzgerald left the water in the tire well where they replaced the O2 sensor, my fuel pump sensor is malfunctioning. They left water in the well knowing it would create more issues because they want to remove the inside of my car to dry it properly. I can wetvac he remaining water myself! I just need you to do your d* job and replace the d* fuel pump sensor like I asked! I'm so angry with these people. They are trying to rape my pockets! Fitzgerald asked that I recant my statement... what I mentioned before is still true but a nice gentlemen was able to better articulate what's wrong and what needed to be fixed with my vehicle and also gave me some tips on how to fix myself. I miss spoke about the location of the o2 sensor but they still didn't remove the water as I asked, I did it myself. I love My Mazda 3. Craig Olive was my salesman and has kept in touch since I bought my car 3 years ago. I go in every 3 months for service and the people are honest. They let me know what NEEDS to be done and what can wait. I use my buyer protection plane which saves me money everytime I go in for service. I usually get a loaner and run errands while I get service. I like trying out new models of cars but my Mazda is great nearing 100,00K and still humming along. read more

We bought a new Mazda 6 from Fitzgerald Auto Mall and they left us with the feeling they are crooks. The car we bought stated it came with navigation on the sticker but they tried to sell us the chip that is needed to activate the navigation for $400 and they would not negotiate or give us the chip. We still bought the car as we felt the car itself was a good price, however the navigation ordeal still bothered us and after further investigation we found out that indeed it should have come with the chip. We contacted Mazda, they verified we were correct. Mazda, in turn, contacted our salesman, Mitch Jenkins and Mike Sienkiewicz, who did the processing. They did not respond. Mazda then contacted the sales manager who did call and provided us with the chip needed for the navigation. So I guess the "Fitz Way" is the dishonest way. read more

We love our new cars! This is our second car from Fitzgerald and each buying experience was fantastic. You may look around at other dealerships and maybe find lower prices but not realize freight and other processing fees are not included in the sticker price. At Fitzgerald the sticker price includes freight and other rebates (that YOU can actually get), which greatly impacted our buying decision. I highly recommend seeing Andrew Linker if buying a Chevy because he knows all things Chevy. During our most recent visit, Mike Bennett worked a better financing rate than initially offered and made the signing process painless. And if you're staying in the area I would recommend getting their Buyer Protection Plan since it pays for itself in future maintenance costs. I bought my car at Fitzgerald Frederick and always have it serviced there. Never had a problem. Service is always smooth and reliable.

I do not recommend, they didn't perform the multi point inspection, the service writer told me that he forgot to give the paper to the tech, and then the bottom of my truck was filled with oil, either something was left loose or they didn't clean off the residue. I am still investigating but either way, it's not good for a tech to leave the vehicle like this, I used to be a tech and my manager always told me to take care of the little things. INCOMPETENT and USELESS! They say they can install your carseat. I've called TWICE. First- no one was available. Second-- when someone actually was available to bother to answer the phone, they acted like they could not find someone from the team who installed them. All they could do was tell me DONT COME TODAY because no one is here. Its 2 in the afternoon. No one is there to help you? Why do they say to go there to install your car seat?!!! They just want to get some business in and sell you a crappy car. THEN the guy didnt even know if they could install my car brand. He said- just come by tomorrow. Shopping for a car is, for many people, like going to the dentist. We don't really enjoy the experience, but sometimes it needs to be done. A few years ago it occurred to me that sooner or later I was going to need to buy a new car. New, used ... whatever ... My faithful old Dodge was clearly nearing its end times. So, I decided to start going to the annual auto shows in Washington, DC, to check out the various models. I was mostly interested in SUVs or so-called crossovers. I looked at virtually everything that was available. After two years of auto shows and checking out hundreds of makes and models, I came to the conclusion that -- for the money -- the Cadillac SRX was the right car for me. Living in Frederick, my natural instinct was to give Fitzgerald Auto Mall a chance to make the deal. That turned out to be the best decision I made in my long, two-year car-shopping process. Fitzgerald fixed me up with a three-year lease on a brand new, fully loaded SRX, and I drove off the lot with the car of my dreams that very same day. I have since taken the SRX in for its regular check-up twice. The service department got me in and out the same day, doing everything that needed to be done -- tuneup, oil change, tires rotated, all fluids checked and tapped off, etc. -- and I didn't spend one extra dime for the service. It was all included in the lease. So, yeah ... If someone were to ask me for a recommendation about car dealers, I'd happily refer them to Fitzgerald. read more

This is a bold claim considering the bait and switch tactics these guys employ. Saw a used vehicle online for 16k, (also was looking for a DVD, which the website also said it had) Went in, it didn't have the DVD player. They claimed someone made a mistake on the website. Fine. Still decided to go for it. We were pre-approved for financing but it was late, so we were going to finish up in the morning. We get a call from Robert: some manager "fat-fingered" (the sticker ON the car, the website, everything) it should have been a NINE not a SIX. The car is now 19k. So sorry guys, our mistake, still want it?? I can help you with the interest rate..but can move on the price. There are plenty of other dealerships out there people, save yourself some time and HASSLE and visit another one. read more

I do not recommend buying a car from here. My husband and I went to the Volkswagen dealership to look at their SUVs. There were two employees sitting at the large desk in the center of the store and another employee sitting at a small desk. Two of the employees saw us walk in. The other was looking at his phone. The two that saw us did not acknowledge us at all. We stood in the store for a few minutes, then left. We drove to another Volkswagen dealership in a different city and bought a Tiguan and an Atlas. Made an appointment online two days prior to appointment date to fix airbag recall on my Volkswagen. Drove an hour to make appointment (that's the closest one to me), waited 40 minutes in the waiting room only to be told they didn't have the part to fix. The advisor I dealt with didn't seem too apologetic when I asked why no one called me to tell me before my appointment but the man beside him apologized and said they would get me in and out the next day and do something for me. Drove an hour today to get the recall fixed, waited two hours for my car to be done. I asked what they were going to do for me for wasting my time yesterday. A carwash is what they did. I wasted 2 hours and 40 minutes between driving and waiting in the waiting room, drove another hour to get there today to wait 2 hours for the work to be done and they thought a car wash was sufficient enough for my inconvenience. I get stuff happens but someone dropped the ball and I paid for it by all the time I had wasted! Will not return! read more

Purchased a brand new 16" chevy suburban ltz from here a few weeks ago.. Waited over 2 hours for the service dept to swap 2 wheels from another car and wash the car before I took delivery. Except,, 2 hours went by and they still did not have the car washed. so being that I was exhausted and wanted to get back, I took the suv home filthy and washed it when I got home, only to discover that the dirt was hiding a good sized scratch on the passenger door,. also, after they swaped the wheels, they did not bother resetting the tire air sensors, so i needed to make a trip to my local deaherlship the next day, how wonderful...Also, someone took a buffing wheel to the rear bumper,, (not sure why).. I called Alex (my salesman and left a voicemail, still to this day no reply call.. (Of course not, they already took my money, no need to speak with me now).. Not to mention I drove 4 hours to meet the salesman there at 9:00am and he managed to show up 30 mins late despite him living local to the dealership.. read more
