The Good: Say what? A Five Guys in my city!!! I'm all for it. The have great juicy burger with a ton of topping that you can add for free. Their fries are my favorite and they give you a cup and more. I've eaten at so many Five Guys that they all provide to me the same level of happiness. This place also seemed to have plenty of employees here. My food came out quickly, which always seems like a problem with this franchise. Glad to have you on the block. The Bad: Okay, what's up with this Five Guys? Why are the prices here like 15% higher than the other ones? I don't mind paying a bit more for my burger and fries but when they are more than the already higher prices my taste buds don't like it as much. The parking is crazy here, tiny lot, and it's a strip mall. I'm not really a fan to hit places on Beach Blvd, the traffic's busiest street. The Ben: I'm confused. Just realized there was one not too far from my house and decided to check it out. The burger was really good and a decent size. The ingredients were fresh and I liked the option of so many free condiments. Although the burger was good, it did not seem to have a unique taste. The fries were fantastic and they give you plenty of them. I didn't really care for the ambiance (well, it is a burger place) but I think they could be do more. It really felt like a cafeteria in there and they seem to be their biggest fans with every possible quote or write up on them plastered all over the walls. The first thing I notice about a place is how crowded they are. The second thing I notice is how fast and how nice the workers are. Sadly this place was dead when I walked in. Back when the closest location to me was in Cerritos, I've wanted to try Five Guys. This location has been open for a while now yet I didn't try it until yesterday. Before this location opened, I heard good reviews about the food. Since this location has been open, I've heard mixed reviews, so I had to try it for myself. The cashier was friendly and was willing to explain how the ordering worked since it was my first time there. I ordered the little cheeseburger with mayo, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and jalapeños; also an order of cajun fries. The burger was okay, but the bread was soggy. I also expected to get the pickled jalapeños, instead it was fresh sliced jalapeños. Fries were okay too. I can't think of very many places I've heard such hype - both positive and negative. Some people fear they will oust In 'N Out and show their loyalty to the California burger joint claiming Five Guys has the worst burgers ever. Others rave how much better Five Guys is and anyone eating at In 'N Out is out of touch with reality and needs to get over themselves... there burgers people! Let's not take this so seriously! I came, I ate, and I went to the Five Guys at this location. It wasn't the worst burger I ever had, but I don't think it beats In 'N Out either. It's a great option if you're in the area and want to have a burger and it's truly okay to eat here even if you love In 'N Out. I will probably eat at other Five Guys in the future and I'm not ashamed to say it, but I still like In 'N Out better. There. We can all calm down. I like that you get to decide on which toppings go on your burger and I like that they have relish! I feel like no other burger place gives you that option and I'm a relish fiend! It took longer to make the burger than I anticipated. The restaurant wasn't that busy. I don't eat fries much and the fries here didn't make me want to eat more than one. My kids shared a grilled cheese sandwich and they finished it pretty quickly so I'm guessing it was pretty good. I felt like the food was a bit on the pricey side. This location is fairly large in a very busy complex. Trying to find a parking spot and just general traffic flow can be stressful. I bet if you're really hungry, lots of swear words are likely to come out of your mouth! I liked the outdoor seating they had though we sat inside as it was a very afternoon of rain in June. I was a little skeptical to try this place because of the lower rating, but my brother raved about this place. I was still skeptical considering that some of the places he's shared in the past...well not so good...but he was paying and who can say no to free food? I walked in, the line was long. That's a good sign. Boxes of peanuts were lined up near the wall. While you wait in line or for your food, you can munch on some roasted peanuts in the shell. The shells are meant to be thrown on the floor, I assume? since there's always peanuts littering the ground each time I've gone, but I actually love that! They also fry their food in peanut oil...so beware for those with peanut allergies... I like that they have so many options to top off your burger (over 10 toppings) The single meat patty burger will cost about 4.00, while the double patty costs around 6.00. The toppings are unlimited and free, which kind of makes up for the pricier burger. The toppings include anything from grilled mushrooms to bbq sauce to tomatoes to jalapenos, etc. The fries are supposed to be outstanding, which is what all of their signs read. One even boasts that they're the best fries in OC...I'm going to have to disagree. They give cajun fries or regular. for around 2.65, you get an order of their regular sized fries. Now these quantities are huge! They give you almost 1.5 times the amount you would expect from the order. Staff is super friendly and nice. I ordered regular fries, forgot to mention I wanted cajun and they happily dusted my fries with cajun seasoning. Also, they give out sides of sauces, which is nice. For example, you want bbq sauce on your burger, you can also get hot sauce on the side. I love that their patties taste homemade. Never been here before.... people rave about it... I simply enjoyed it :) I do like the free choice of toppings you can get on burger and the sauces you can choose :) Got me a cheeseburger and large cajun fries... Judo... her nickname... was like... "Why didn't you get the mini burger.... you're not gonna finish your food.... all of us already got fries and you're getting more.... we're gonna have so much leftover!" I wasn't worried! I heard this place is comparason of In and Out. Here's what I think of this place... I live close to an In and Out and I hardly go there. I'm not a big fan of their burgers and I hate their fries. I hate to admit that I love this place because Mr. B is going to say he was right but I still don't forget my first love, In-n-Out. I'm not going to compare the two because there is a difference especially in the price. I love living close by because I always order online, avoid the wait and lines and just pick up at the counter, not to mention I save some money on a drink. The burgers can be custom ordered, the meat is always tasty, fresh and has a nice girth. I especially like the crispy bacon and that you can order extra jalapenos, mustard, hot sauce etc. The Cajun fries are tasty a bit too seasoned at times but at least they are real potatoes. Not warzone tough but.. pretty damn tough. People and their monster trucks take up 1 1/2 spot in the parking lot and it becomes a pain in the ASS. When ordering... you pick your burger and can get whatever you want in it. The fries are made fresh and they taste better if you ask for them "well done." Free peanuts EVERYWHERE. Have heard a lot of chatter about this place...how it's going to be taking over In N Out, etc. Went to lunch at Five Guys with 5 adults and two kids. The experience exceeded expectations. The ordering process was very simple and every burger is made to order. The counter clerk did a great job of explaining the process. Food was outstanding. Fresh and delicious. I was very impressed with the server stopping by twice asking if she could get us anything...refills, ketchup, etc. All of our guests loved it. We all agreed that it really isn't a fair comparison to In N Out because it's just different. It's like Modern Family and The Office....both are fantastic. I hope they build one in south OC. I had heard this place from a few people recently and was VERY curious because who doesn't LOVE a good burger?? Sometimes I get those cravings and NOT that I don't LOVE In and Out's Classic simplicity, sometimes a little variety is necessary. It was definitely a burger and fries emergency. LOL. So off to Five Guys we went, I was happy to see they had smaller burger choices as I am NOT a big red meat eater. ONLY on rare occasion, and typically it's in ground form and not "rare" from steakhouses, if you catch my drift. I loved the design on the inside, sort of reminded me of place I'd find in Chicago or somewhere else in the midwest. The burger varieties were also VERY appealing. I LOVED the "build your own burger" concept. Sometimes I don't really know what will go well together, but I decided to live dangerously and ordered cheese, pickles, lettuce, mustard, and extra jalapenos. (who would have guessed that?) The fry choices were regular and cajun. Cajun please. :) We were pleased that the guy behind the counter generously said "i threw in a little extra fries," and when we looked the ENTIRE brown bag was FULL 3/4 ways with cajun fries! Sweeeeeeet! The burgers were VERY good. Soft buns, meat was juicy (not pink ew) and had great flavors. I really dug my burger choices, while I was patting myself on the back for creating an awesome burger, I managed to scarf down some KILLER cajun fries. They weren't SUPER spicy, but had a good balance of seasoning, and were SO good, to stop eating them was a true discipline. There were just SO many of them and they were DELICIOUS. EVIL BURGER BOY! I've been here twice so far, the first time I heard of it was through Obama saying it's his favorite burger spot. So I thought "if the president likes it, it must be good." I came around closing time with 2 friends, afterwards the workers here started playing the 'Closing Time' song. Ha. I split a bacon cheeseburger burger (with 2 patties) with a friend, with extra ingredients of grilled onions/ mushrooms, a1 sauce, BBQ sauce. We forgot to ask for pickles and jalapenos, which we tried to add to our order later. It didn't go through though so we just got it on the side. We also ordered large cajun fries. While we waited, we nommed on roasted peanuts, which were fresh and salty and crisp as peanuts should taste. Their flavor was further enhanced after eating the salty/hot Cajun fries. I think it's because the peanuts are less salty than the fries, so you taste less of the salt more of the nuttiness after comparing it to the fries. Overall, the burger was fresh and tasty but a little dry which is my reason for knocking off a star. I don't think they added enough sauce. My friend told me that he had it another time with the same ingredients and it was less dry. Next time, I'll be sure to ask for extra sauce. Also, I would've preferred the bun to be thicker and toasted, it was a little too soft (-.5). My other friend was very appalled there were no milkshakes. But he really likes milkshakes with his burgers, so it's a matter of personal taste. Overall, 3.5 stars, because any food place that gives free snacks (peanuts) deserves my love. read more

This review can be summed up in 4 words: alright food, bad prices. The menu is a little confusing because a cheeseburger is actually a double cheeseburger, and a "little" cheeseburger is in fact, a normal cheeseburger. So a "Bacon Cheeseburger" is $6.79. That comes with fries and a drink right? NOPE! A large Cajun fry was 5 bucks and a small drink was 2.09. Total with tax was $14.95! I almost just walked away but after all the hype I had to try it. So I put my overly priced meal on my credit card and wait for the food. And then I waited some more, and then some more. Keep in mind, there weren't many people there. So finally I get my food and ask for ranch for the fries. Wait, no ranch? What is going on here? I'd say the burger quality was about the same as In-N-Out, since that's what everybody is comparing this place to. I was really disappointed when the pickles used were sliced sweet pickles, and not dill. As for the menu selection, why aren't there any combos? There's been a lot of hype surrounding Five Guys. A lot of talk of it giving In and Out a run for its money. I personally dig In and Out as a "fast food" burger establishment. Mainly because of their fresh product that comes at a good price. By no means do I believe In and Out has the best burgers. But I finally had a Five Guy experience (wow...that sounds quite dirty). Walking into the establishment, I could see why this place draws some comparisons to In and Out by the feel of the restaurant alone. The cooking staff is in full view, much like In and Out...plus the "sterile" white and red color scheme is quite familiar to In and Out's Red, White and Yellow. No complaints about the service...super friendly and chipper. Ordered up a "little" bacon cheeseburger (single patty), a regular order of Cajun fries and a regular drink. 11 Bucks???!!! WTF???? Yeah, not too thrilled with the cost of the food at this place. I guess adding as many toppings (mustard, grilled mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles and grilled jalapenos) might have added to the bill. So the burger...with all the toppings, it was really, really good. "5 bucks" good? I'm not so sure about that. I did enjoy the fact that you have quite a few options when it comes to toppings. Reminded me of Fuddruckers, minus the "do it yourself" formula. The burger itself was ok...standard sized burger patty. I do think that their burger patties need a bit more seasoning...maybe some of that Cajun seasoning. For a "little" burger, it was plenty big for me. This place would have received three stars if it wasn't for their Cajun fries. I've only had Cajun fries at MVP's in Long Beach (which might be home to my favorite burger) and they are excellent. These fries are actually better than MVP's (sorry Fernando!). I guess the best way to describe them is that the fries are like In and Out's, but on steroids. Super fresh taste and their Cajun seasoning is super good...not as salty as Cajun seasoning can be (or like Red Robin's seasoning). The small size is PLENTY for anyone eating alone...and even enough for those who might be sharing. So the bottom line is that it's quite expensive for what you get...but when you take into consideration the quality (especially the fries), the portion size (even with the smaller burgers and fries) and the choice of toppings...the higher prices are justified for the most part. Five Guys is maybe a one ever few weeks dinning experience. I could never have this more than once a week...I'd be f'n huge! Good burgers, good fries, IMPECCABLE service. My first time was 3 days after they opened. There was a decent amount of people in line, but what do you expect? If a restaurant serves GOOD FOOD, you should always expect a wait. Anyways, my first experience there was wonderful (as well as every other time). The staff always comes outside (i love sitting on their patio) to make sure you are doing okay, which is unheard of at a restaurant of this type. One young man even offered to refill our drinks! I was so excited about all of the toppings/condiments that I went a little overboard. I could barely taste the meat, LOL. Entirely my fault because of the amount of stuff I put on my burger. The next time I came I didn't order as many toppings, haha. People always say the buns are amazing, but I sort of disagree. Then again, I'm the kind of person who would rather have a burger wrapped in lettuce, aka "protein style" from In-N-Out. I think Five Guys' buns are a little overpowering at times. I am so glad that we decided to order thru fax .. when I arrived, the line was out the door and it appeared that it was about 15 people waiting .. it was moving fast but still .. that is a long line for a lunch break to wait in .. The burger I got was the bacon cheeseburger .. I didn't know it was a double .. it was so good ... I don't know why people comparre it to In-n-Out .. it is totally different .. different taste of meat .. different size .. different style .. so I can't say one is better than the other .. It was about $5 per burger. The orders don't come out in a tray but in a brown bag; and if you get more than one burger, they put a number on the burger that matches the number on the receipt. Burger and fries: no complaints and can really hit the spot. Depending on which items u add, it might sit in your belly like a damn bowling ball. I say stick with the light fresh topping like lettuce & tomato and stay away from that mushroom&cheese combination. This location was dirty. Bathroom was a warzone. No paper towels and piss on the floor. Outside in the dining area, probably a whole days worth of peanut shells and its debris all over the place so when some people didnt carry their feet, it kicked up some peanut dust that loomed in the air creating a thick haze. There's a generous amt of outdoor seating where you can try to talk over the Beach Blvd traffic. And the parking lot is somewhat dumb. Ordered our food 3 burgers and 2 fry's for three people to share Burger 1 - just cheese...nothing else Burger 2 & 3 - Cheese, mushrooms, onions, lettuce, tomato 1 regular fry 1 Cajun Service was fine, the young guy at the counter was pleasant and polite +1 Burger 1 - overcooked, very dry even the cheese couldn't save this (my 18 year son was left un-impressed) - 1 Burger 2 & 3 - over cooked, looked like a big slab bad ground beef, mushrooms were small, I forgot they were there. Onion, I think the waived the onions past it and called it a day. The lettuce and tomato were flavorless. -1 The nail in the coffin - the bun. Appeared to be a cheap cheap type of bread that fell apart the minute I unwrapped the burger. As I was updating the burger rotation removing five guys from there allotted spot...I heard the faint sound taps in the back ground and I felt tears well up for a minute..then I realized my son was watching private ryan in the other room UPDATE: I received an email in response to this review, I was invited to complete an online survey. I just copied what I posted on the yelp review and entered it into the online survey. Five Guys called me with in 24 hours to try to make this experience right. After talking with them...I came to the realization that one bad meal out of the 50 I am sure I have had ..well that warrants another change. The nice folks at five guys asked me to come in and buy me food..I declined the offer for the free meal and offered to purchase my own food. Kudos for the contact and the offer, I will add five guys back into my burger rotation and assume that the one bad experience was a fluke! read more

Honestly, I don't understand what's so good about this place... I paid like $10 for a very mediocre burger and fries. I can get way better food for the same price elsewhere. Would I ever come back? Definitely not for the burger, but maybe for the fries... Probably not even that. read more

Drove here after searching for dinner on Yelp and found a line of people outside the door, a strange sight in OC. Apparently, we managed to get here on the first day it opened (we've got some fast fingers on Yelp). The place was filled with people and we waited for about 15 minutes before our orders were taken, though I insisted we place a phone order right then and there and just walk up to the take-out counter. The menu consists of basic burgers and fries but what's not so usual here is that all the toppings are free! If you'd like to get ALL the toppings, you can ask for it "all the way". There's also something called a Little Hamburger and what differs it from Hamburger is that it's only got one patty. So if you get a Hamburger with every topping, it would be DOUBLE PATTY ALL THE WAY!!! So intense!! read more

This place really sucks $8.39 for a Hamburger and & 9.07 for a cheeseburger ?? WTF !! In & Out is way better & way less money !! I hope no one goes there anymore and wastes there money on there overpriced food !! For $1.00 more you can go to a Sizzler and get a steak W/baked potato !! read more

Five Guys Huh? I thought this was an East Coast Chain... For double the price of what you'd pay at In-N-Out, you get a charbroiled burger that almost looks like they smashed on purpose right before they give it to you. Burger was flavorless and slightly burnt. I must say it didn't remind me of any other burger I ever had because nothing about it was memorable. Everyone raves about their fries... Ours were served soggy, too thick and over-salted. They give out free peanuts for you to munch on while you wait, but then what you end up with is a floor covered with discarded peanut shells. The place didn't smell like burgers at all. I'll give it one more shot to right these wrongs, and because all my friends think it's awesome. But with Pete's Gourmade inbetween this place and my house, I don't see it happening for awhile. It may be time for these Five Guys to pack up and head back to the East Coast where they think this stuff is good. Sorry Guys, but California belongs to In-N-Out.. end of story. read more

I have tried this location about 4 times, I've called in my order 3 of those times. That have always gotten something very wrong with my meal. Twice they did not put bacon, which should be an obvious mistake. Once I was given the wrong burger entirely. On top of the mistakes, it's a bit over priced and every burger seems to be soggy by the time it gets home. I'll stick to In-n-Out thank you! read more

When we ordered burger, fries, and a drink they told me the price and I had to ask "Did I break a window"? 25 dollars for burgers? Ridiculous. They have all this self promotion going on throughout the place, best burger this, greatest that, and you're double the price of IN and Out? You had better be able to back up these outlandish claims....NOT! I know why they named it 5 guys. It's because I had to bring four buddies with me to pay the bill. The burger is mediocre and on top of that, twice the calories. Twice the price, calories, and half the quality. Here's what the brainstorming meeting to start this concept must've sounded like. Guy#1 I've got a great idea. Let's enter into the already, way over crowded fast food burger market. Guy #2 That's a great Idea number 1! Guy#3 Yeah, and we can open them all next to or near the IN-N-OUT burger chain, a wildly successful restaurant company of 50 years that has a cult-like following. Guy #2 Another splendid brainstorm! Guy #4 We should double the price in this economy, double the calories because obesity isn't a big enough problem yet, and lower the quality Guy#5 You're a genius #4. I move to promote you to CEO! Like countless others, I gave this chain a go when they were the new kids in town. Also, like everyone else, I compared it to In-n-Out. By a great margin, I much preferred the latter. Unfortunately for them, I still prefer their biggest competitor. Since my last visit was ages ago, I decided to give it another go; you know, in the off-chance they changed their menu or ways for the better. I was mostly wrong. The everything hamburger was a double patty mess ($5.50) - lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mustard, mayo, ketchup, mushrooms, onions,. The little hamburger which is a single burger patty was equally a mess (~$4). The steamed buns were to blame; they were too soft to adequately support the hearty and juicy burger and condiments. Also, because they were too soft to begin with, the buns couldn't sop up the yummy burger juice, thereby further compromising the integrity of the buns and burger on the whole. Bummer. On the bright side, their burgers were juicy, they didn't drown their burgers w/ fillers or condiments, and they now offer considerably more sanitary vessels for those people who like them some peanuts (paper trays, yay!). Other important info: generous portions, piping hot food, ample parking, no lines, outside seating available, service is pleasant, dirty floors, dirtier tables, questionnable looking and acting employees (rough-looking employees winking at and nodding to equally rough-looking customers and passing food w/o calling out numbers like they do the rest of the customers). read more

Has anyone come by a bad experience with Five Guys in HB or any other locations of Five Guys. I did a phone order. Twenty minutes after I arrived, order not completed. I understand the freshness policy for French fries as in makes fries once customer arrive but the burger.. Come on Five Guys employees!! Where is the sense of purpose and urgency?! No one in line and on top it all completely dead in dining area. Only a employee taking a meal break. Plus, communication level not so good. read more
