Horrible so bad they took forever almost 30mins. They started giving out orders that were after us, so went to ask and they gave it to us super cold. I think they had it there and forgot to give it to us. We sent it back and then they gave us the wrong order. We sent it back again when they finally gave us the order the fries were super salty. The burgers were good when we finally ate but really bad service. I'm willing to try them again but somewhere else they need to train their people better. read more

This location we know well. The salt on the fries can be 0 about 20% of the time so you may have to salt, but everything else, including service has been great. It was a weird situation. I know I don't go out to have burgers too often, but once in a while I like to treat myself. Specially if the place claims to be gourmet. Nice greeting, service, friendliness and suggestions. That is until I got my so call gourmet burger. Two seconds after I got it off the bag and off the foil, it literally blew up. It ended up all over the table. Thank goodness none of it got on my clothing. I kept it humorous and asked the team member if that was supposed to happened. She giggled and said sorry. She also offered to clean the hot mess on the table, which to I said I would do and did. I don't know if there is a certain way these burgers are supposed to be grabbed, but the experience was pretty unorthodox. The food is very good, The fries were good and my cheeseburger was yummy but it's expensive. Each item is priced individually. For a simple grilled cheese sandwich was $4.39. Two orders of regular fries cost $8.78 three regular drinks cost $7.47. I guess quality really cost more. This is the place I will come rarely because of the high cost. Food is consistent but the service wrecks my brain. Makes me want to pull my hair out. There's a girl there by the name of Elizabeth who I've had the displeasure of dealing with on four separate occasions and each time she proves that she needs to be in a different position. The first encounter, she placed me on hold so long that the phone hung up. So I tried calling back and the line was busy. I went in and it turned out that she had completely forgotten that she had placed me on hold. Second encounter she gave me grilled onions instead of raw(did not complain just picked them off). Third encounter she gave regular fries instead of seasoned (didn't complain). And on this last round she added ketchup to my burger and I HATE ketchup. I want them to remove this girl from the phone because she simply cannot get it right. It is great when good food and pleasant employees come together in one restaurant. Not only were our burgers and fries prepared and delivered exactly as ordered, but every one serving us had a smile and a helpful demeanor. The food was perfectly cooked and the ingredients were all fresh and delicious. The baskets of peanuts in the shell they offer while you wait are a treat. There isn't table service, but any assistance you need is happily provided. The place is kept clean for your benefit, including the restrooms! Always great food here!! Bacon was crispy in the cheeseburger and the fries were crispy. My favorite had to be the malted milk shake. Must have more of this!!! Finally a great burger place that is all organic and I don't have to make a 20 min drive up to downtown or north park. This place is great yes it's a bit pricey but it's quality ingredients are fresh and delicious and once again it's organic, 5 guys is the only real competition to In n Out another dear place of mine for great burgers. I am a big fan of Five Guys and have frequented the location at North Island. I live in IB so was happy to have this place open down the street. Boy am I hugely disappointed. The size of the patty on my burger didn't even cover the bun. Unacceptable considering what I paid for that burger. My Cajun fries tasted like the shaker lost its lid. Chill with the shaker, way to much Cajun seasoning. Yuck We walked in and ordered immediately, which is the only positive part of my experience. There was about 8 employees working on the food prep and it took forever to get our food. These issues should have been worked out that first week. I will say, yes, their burgers are good (hence the two stars), but $9 burger good? Heck no-this is fast casual, not sit-down restaurant dining. I get it, everything is fresh, but it does not take 10-20 minutes to cook a patty and prepare a burger. And it's rarely ever even that busy. Five guys needs to take some notes from in-n-out. I really do not understand how they can have 5-6 people in the kitchen and it take that long to put food out. I can spend half the money and get my food twice as fast from in n out. Burger lounge, shake shack, and Habit are all cheaper and quicker, so again, i don't know how this place stays in business. My last visit here I order a bacon cheese burger, that's it, and it took 17 minutes!!!!! There were only two people ahead of me in line when I walked in, so not really that busy. And that will be the last time I spend another dime at Five Guys. Unless you are looking to kill some time and overpay for a burger and fries, I would not go here. Additionally, time before last I was here, they were out of hotdog buns... so you spend way too much for a hotdog and then they tell you they're out of hotdogs buns, you can have it on a hamburger bun for the same price. Uhm no thank you. And this past time I was there, they were not serving milkshakes. I don't understand that one...? You sell like less than five things and you are out of milkshakes? Man talk about your Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde of hamburger joints of all time. A few years back after a long day at the San Diego Fair, I treated my family to the Five Guy experience at the Hillcrest location after seeing it featured on the food channel numerous times and I was not disappointed at all. The burgers then where made to order and delicious and the fries crispy and plentiful served in a awesome plain cardboard box and the meal was reasonably priced. Boy, how has the wormed turned, I went to Grand Opening weekend of the Imperial Beach Five Guys the other day and never felt more ripped off over such shawty and terrible tasting food. The burgers were not made to order but made on some kind of mass construction basis with a hastily cooked burger with no seasoning and without a seer placed on a premade prepared lower bun with that just sits on a stainless steel counter cold and getting soggy by the minute with moisture of the lettuce and tomato sinking in and to make matters worst once my burger was assembled the oily over cooked mushrooms and tasteless patty dripped additional grease to my bottom bun causing it to turn into a gooey doughy mess and my burger was now a open face sandwich since my lower bun was now garbage. So I tried the fries next, an although quantity was what I remembered, they now serve them in plain brown paper bag instead of that sturdy cardboard box, and grease of these fries just about eat thru the bag and although a few fries were spot on, but the majority were a limp and greasy mess. Being a former burger manger in another life, they did not allow there fryers to recover to the optimum temperature before cooking the next batch...rookie mistake. Any way, the price for this horrible meal is way out of whack for what you get, even if they managed to do a decent job which they didn't this time, the price is way to high for the South Bay Demographic. However, there is still hope for you South Bay folks who are craving a really delicious and competitively priced hamburger and fry combo, try dining at Halphen Red Burgers, a little mom & pop joint across the street from Southwestern College in the Taco Bell shopping strip mall. Seriously, these short order cooks know what they are doing and make each individual burger to your liking using some of the most tasty dry aged fresh ground beef you have every had, seriously just thinking about their giant cheese burger is enough to make my mouth water. so please give these folks a try-I want to see them succeed because I love eating there, as much as I hate settling for a corporate tasteless hamburger. read more

On April,10, 2018 I went to the Five Guys restaurant in Imperial Beach. The service was pleasant but very plain.....just nice but ordinary. I ordered a cheese burger and a banana shake. The shake was bland and tasted more like a vanilla shake. My burger was at best....OK....The meat was mushy, but had some decent taste. The person who cooked it needs help .......people think it is easy to cook a burger.....it is if you cook an average one ass they did but to cook an excellent burger you need some skill.....you know that touch. All the employees were very young and didn't have that something special to show that making the burger was an art. The food was excellent; however the following occurred. When i arrived there i noticed about four employees working but preoccupied with a conversation they were having that was non work related. I observed several food prepares cooking the burgers. Cooking the fries. Putting the sandwich together. Each of them kept adjusting their face mask and did not change their gloves. I informed them that the mask is a barrier. Meaning there are germs on the outside and every time they adjust it and dont change their gloves...they are cross contaminating. They began changing their gloves and whispering. I dont know what they were saying but it probably had to do with me. Good thing heat kills germs but the wrappers it does not. When my order was finish i was given ketchup in a container. I asked her was this due to the covid and she replied yes. Meaning i could not get it myself because i might spread germs.IRONIC, GIVING THEY WERE CROSS CONTAMINATING ALL over the place. It is no surprise we as consumers are not dead from the way they prepare our food. What i have seen is that businesses are more interested in protecting their employees and making money than protecting us as consumers. I have seen so much health violations even pre covid. No wonder there are so many deaths! Next time i will tape them cross contaminating and post it. They will chang, but briefly, then resume their similar ways again.
