I had super high expectations because I'd heard and read so many wonderful reviews about Five Guys...including people preferred them to In 'n Out. I was a little disappointed, possibly because my expectations were so high. The burger was good, but it was very dry. They cook things well done, but they say it will still be juicy, mine was not, nor were the burgers my friends ordered. The fries were good, but they were soggy. The staff is super nice and even though the line was long, it moved along really quickly. I couldn't compare their burger to In 'n Out because it's a different style of burger..as in Five Guys burgers are thicker and you can get lots more toppings (at no extra cost). Oh yah, it's pretty noisy in there, so if you want a place to talk and hang out, this is probably not the place for it. Also, I wish the lights weren't so bright. It has that bright white "office light" feel. In this price range though, I'd recommend Obo Burger at 9th and LaBrea. I have fond memories of Five Guys from my midwest days, but this place doesn't come close. As a chain restaurant, you have to meet certain criteria to create a consistent experience. Womp womp womp. Waiting to order when there is no line. This is a major pet peeve of mine, especially in a "fast food" environment. Then comes the price. This place adds up really quick, free toppings regardless. The three of us placed our orders and went to customize our sodas (+1 star for that convenience and coolness). Tables have a weird layout and aren't well-maintained, but that's okay. The place was mostly empty. Took 15 minutes to get our order, despite the emptiness of the restaurant. That's not fast. I get you're making it fresh, but ehhhh. Don't call yourselves "fast food," then. My bacon was overcooked, I had none of the cheese I requested. I got over it, but still. The fries were just okay. We split a large order amongst three people and still had enough fries leftover for two more people to jump in and have a good amount each. Portions are interesting. Everyone ate their food, but nobody seemed to have much good to say about it. +1 for service because we had staff circling around our table and asking how things were several times. I would tone it down in the future, though. When your place is lacking customers and you keep asking those who are trying to eat your monster portion of potatoes how they are doing, it can come across as a "hurry the fuck up and leave" kind of commentary. I've been hearing about Five Guys from my East Coast friends for at least a year so needless to say that I was very glad to see they had opened an L.A. location. I finally went today and had a double cheese burger with everything (except onions) and Five Guys style fries. Since I consider myself a burger aficionado I've tried to provide an in-depth review: BURGER -Initially I felt guilty about ordering the double cheese burger but it actually wasn't as big as I thought it was going to be and was just the right size -The burger was fresh and flavorful -There are a wide range of toppings and I had grilled mushrooms, mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomatoes and pickles (next time I'll pass on the mayo) -I did enjoyed the sesame seed bun buy I typically prefer wheat buns FRIES -The fries were amazing. They were fresh, real fries that were cooked well done (the way I liked them) and I sprinkled mine with some vinegar, fish & chips style. They're also served cajun style. OVERALL My big question was how Five Guys stacked up against Fat Burger and In-N-Out - Two L.A. burger institutions - and I'd have to say they did pretty good: -While I can't say that Five Guys is better than Fat Burger or In-N-Out it is on par with both -Five Guys is kind of a heartier version of In-N-Out. I like In-N-Out's buns, secret sauce and overall flavor but the Five Guys patties are thicker, the burger was extremely fresh and almost tasted homemade in a good way (Not like Eddie Murphy's house-burgers, lol). In-N-Out is a bit more of a value as it is more affordable depending on what you order. -Fat Burger however is still in a class of its own with the option of beef, ground turkey or chicken breast; charbroiled or grilled; wheat or white buns; three sizes of burgers and a choice of egg and chili toppings as well the typical condiments. -The dining experience at Five Guys is a bit intense as the cashiers yell your order to the cooks. Add muzak and it you have a pretty noisy restaurant. But I had fun with it and yelled my order to the cashiers and servers who were very attentive, customer-friendly and responsive. Overall, Five Guys is a very filling, high-quality burger. Five Guys easily has the best fries between Fat Burger and In-N-Out hands down and I would actually go back just for the fries. I also look forward to trying one of their kosher hot dogs which they split down the middle and grill well done - good stuff! read more

Located right in the heart of Miracle Mile, Five Guys is a pretty spacious fast food joint. I ordered the mini cheeseburger with the works + jalapenos, a side of regular fries (totally forgot to get the cajun ones!) and a drink, which came out to be $10.63. I think the downside of this place is how pricey it is. I mean go to In-N-Out and you can get a combo for much less. (They don't have combos here!) Anyway, the burger turned out exactly how people have described it: backyard style burgers. LET ME SUGGEST getting a mini burger/cheeseburger/bacon burger, etc. Why? Well, the the name "mini" is a little misleading and makes you think you're getting a kid-size burger, but it really means one less patty. If you order the cheeseburger, that comes with two patties, so like a Double Double. Kapeesh? They are very generous with the amount of fries they give you. Service is friendly and fast. The worst service I've had at a five guys. They're all high lol The employees literally stand around and look at each other and talk instead of working or helping customers. It's almost theatrical how slowly they walk around and work. Please do not go here if you have anything plans shortly after as you can expect a minimum 30 minute wait for half step above a fast food burger I love five guys enough that I'll order ahead and give myself 30-45 minutes so I don't absolutely lose my mind waiting for these horrific excuses for employees. It's a highly trafficked location on Wilshire during a pandemic. Many of the other negative posts seem to expect perfection on every try. The reality is, however, that mistakes will happen. What matters is how mistakes are handled. My order was brought cold and late for the first time in ages. I told the manager and received a full replacement in under five mins. Maybe like 2 points for presentation, but hoping for 10 points on flavor! I took one bite and was soooooooooooooo disappointed. The cheese was cold and clearly had not even melted. I arrived at the store at 9:55pm on a whim, having a sudden inspiration for a juicy burger and those delicious cajun fries. I got in line behind 2 others, waiting excitedly for my turn. Very disappointed in this chain... maybe just this location, but I've given them several chances and on almost every occasion something goes wrong - most of the time it's the milkshakes. Either the machine isn't working, isn't working correctly or they don't have the necessary ingredients. This is a review for their online ordering/pick-up process. At the office where I volunteer, we placed an order online which was pretty self-explanatory. I liked that you can choose options on how much of a certain item you wanted. For example if you wanted grilled onions, you can choose "light, regular, or extra" which is great. We went to pick it up and the order was ready for us. Found street parking and paid a quarter at the meter for 15mins since it should be a quick pick up. They also have complimentary peanuts for you to eat there or take home which was pretty cool. I haven't seen any other place offer peanuts before. Staff was extremely nice and let us know that our orders were ready. For all these reasons, they get 3 stars. For the price, I was a bit disappointed in how their burgers tasted and looked. My bun was squished and the bun was falling apart so everything in my burger started to spill and became messy to eat. I got a mini hamburger with grilled onions, grilled green peppers, ketchup, tomatoes and lettuce. I heard a lot of great things about Five Guys Burgers and expected a little more quality in their burgers. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? hm.. Their cajun fries were pretty good, though. I feel this burger has a home made taste to it that in n out lacks. Lady at the register was really terrible. We came here for lunch and a co-worker remarked that he would have fired her right away. Really she was that bad and was extremely rude. Look, I get this is a burger place and not a Michelin rated restaurant but she didn't have to be so shrill and have the absolute most disgusted demeanor in taking our orders. She really acted like she wanted to be any place but working at Five Guys. We came around 1:30p and so right in the middle of lunch. It was nearly empty and possibly because people had given up trying to deal with this particular employee. I had a Little Bacon Burger with the works plus A-1 sauce. Not good at all. 4.70 before tax. They forgot my A-1 sauce in the burger which I thought was strange because the lady at the register had made a big stink about me getting the works and A-1 sauce as toppings. It was as if I was doing her a grave disservice by ordering one additional topping. That being said, I was able to get the A-1 on the side. However, the burger overall was a soggy, lukewarm mess. The flavor of the burgers and fries here remind me of In N Out - in a good way, but kindof in a copycat way. The beef is fresh and tastes like the other place. They note on the menu board that they cook them all well done, which for me is kindof a bummer since I prefer a rare burger. My salt-free double bunless burger with (American only, boo) cheese, grilled onions, sauteed mushrooms and a side of mayo came in a piece of aluminum foil. It tasted pretty good and was indeed salt free (yay!) but it would have been nicer to have it lettuce wrapped like at In N Out. Fries were fresh and very lightly salted. In the low-end burger chain debate, I think Five Guys is the Rolling Stones to In-N-Out's The Beatles. Everything tasted good, but it wasn't that compelling together. Fries were too close to potatoes, Lettuce wrap burger fell apart, leaving me to slice into burger with thin aluminum foil below it. Let's just say the table got messy. And I left the place smelling like I had been working the grill myself. I did like the fresh/raw green japapeños and that mushrooms come on a standard burger, but life is short, so I'll stick to In-n-Out.
