Pretty good in terms of the five guys locations I've been to. Not the best I've been to in midtown (Third & 43rd) but nonetheless pretty good. I got some resistance from the cashier who happened to be the manager when I requested a "crazy amount of extra cheese". She said they could only put 1 slice of cheese on a burger, and I told her that she literally could put way more. Put your mind to it. She told me it would be a dollar extra and I gave her a $10 bill and said go crazy but she just laughed and opted to put extra cheese anyway. What is the deal with such reluctance to put extra cheese at a customer's request, especially when the customer is ready willing and able to pay for it??? Are we in a cheese shortage? This is only the second time I've ever been to a Five Guys, the first was in Vegas. The food was delicious and the portions are HUGE. I got the little cheeseburger, fries, and a coke. I shared my fries with a friend and still had some left over! The service was super friendly and efficient. The girl who took my order was extremely nice and patient. I wish I had gotten her name! A decent burger at a decent price. Note that their regular burger is actually a double patty burger! And when you order a side of fries they throw in an extra 'scoop' of fries into your bag. The food is greesy and not healthy but it sure does 'hit the spot' when you're craving a burger. They also have a cool funky soda machine that dispenses a bunch of different sodas. I would NEVER eat in the store b/c it's loud as hell and very crowded. Also there must have been about 15 employees behind the counter working away. Why so many? If you're going for lunch, try to get there early b/c you will wait 20 - 30 minutes for your order if you don't. The hot dog I bought here has to be the lamest way to spend seven dollars EVER. I got some stupid bacon dog during a little break from class at FIT, and I immediately wished I walked a little further and got a yummy soup from Hale & Hearty. The dog was cut in half, not that delicious at all. Completely fell apart upon grasping it, making the condiments spill onto the plate. I had only a few minutes to eat, and that didn't allow for me trying to put my small meal back together. The bacon was quite yummy...but presentation skills were a -100. When prices are high, I expect the food to be somewhat decent. Especially for a hot dog. I could have went to Grey's or even Papaya Dog and had a much more affordable and delectable experience. I'm biased as I basically like their burgers, fries, and roasted dry peanuts. i would always eat at Five Guys, even at their locations along the highways where we have to make a stop and quickly grab something to eat (and then go!). to my mind, it's a good place to dine alone or with friends. the last time i was here, my friend and i were the last customers for the day. we spent over 20 minutes munching on our burgers while we watched in the background how the staff were working and preparing to close for the day. it seems like a smooth flow of operations they follow and pursue here. i think the key to their ongoing success is consistency in following a clear set of systems and procedures, which is something common to franchises like this one. McDonalds and the others could very well learn from how Five Guys is doing its business (of course, I know each franchise is different). read more

I've been eating at this chain for the past ~7 years. It's consistently good (and consistently consistent throughout their different location in the different U.S. states.) I think that their burgers are delicious, well cooked, their topping options are solid, and the free peanuts while you wait in line is a nice touch. I don't like the seating arrangement as much at this 7 Ave location though... it is not arranged as well as some of the other Five Guys that I've been to in Ohio. 343 7TH AVE in Manhattan. Bad experience. I had a 15 min to run over and pickup my order. asked for 12:15 pickup. Arrived, long order line, no one at pickup. Finally guy says I needed a number, grabbed my phone to look at the web number, then continued to touch fries w same hands. He said I needed an "in-store" number which makes no sense for a web order. Online order number was 9 digits, in-store is 2 digits. Went to another employee who said it would be 5 min to make. 10 min later finds my bag on shelf, made 15 min earlier! I asked if it was hot and she said she just made it. As I get back to my meeting and open bag, I see a time stamp of 12:07. Burger was rare, cold & bloody. Even by NYC standards, employees were extremely rude. They were annoyed that I asked for BBQ sauce on the side to go with my fries, then gave me a container that had enough for about 2 fries. $16 for a burger, fries, coke and teaspoon of BBQ sauce. My friend and I ate here and she first she had a hair in her fries. She ignored that and just threw them out. After 30 min, she ended up vomiting violently. She absolutely got food poisoning from the mayonnaise here because we had the same thing except hers had mayo in it and I was perfectly fine. The mayo is supposed to be properly cooled and refrigerated otherwise it gets bad. The mayo was seen clearly sitting out and not being refrigerated when my nursing professor stormed in there to tell them that their mayo is causing food poisoning. Just beware. burgers here are decent, and they give a heaping mound of fries. so why only 2 stars? incompetence. i come here quite often, it's by my office and when you're craving a burger, five guys is very appealing with their numerous "best burger" awards posted on its windows. are they good? sure, they're not bad. the best? not even close. but what gets me every time, is they have an impeccable ability to mess up my order. i would say four out of the last five times i've been there. i'll order one thing and get another. i don't mumble or anything or have a funny accent (i don't think). but every single time, it's unbelievable. like i'll order a regular hamburger and get a cheeseburger. i'll order a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato and instead get a hamburger with onions, pickles, and A1 steak sauce. i got so frustrated that i tried my luck last time i went there, by purposely ordering the wrong thing in hopes of getting the right. ironically they gave me the right order. which was wrong because i was trying to get the right order by ordering wrong. i guess you can't always be wrong, right? read more

Keep in mind that a regular burger includes TWO patties. So if you aren't that hungry, or want to save room for the fries (I recommend the cajun!), order the "little" burger, which includes just one patty and is far from "little". The regular serving of fries is quite a lot and more than enough for two people. Order wisely. OR take home the extra! What I love about this location is the bar area upstairs. You know I used to eat here a lot and lately I haven't been as much. They raised their prices and I am finding I like a few other burger places in the area a little bit better. Their fries are still hard to complete with but they give you so many that if I am alone I don't like to order them because it is too much for me. I'm a big fan of five guys in NJ so I assumed this experience would be similar, boy was I wrong. I walked in at 9:30 pm on Sunday October 26th with my girlfriend- 30 minutes before they closed. The place was absolutely TRASHED with peanuts and garbage all over the floor and tables. We figured we'd get our food to go, no problem. The girl that took my order was very short with me and had a bad attitude. After my order I asked to have my bun not toasted (since the young man was throwing all the buns on the grill right away) and if they could just make sure the burger wasn't burned since I prefer my burger cooked as "medium" as possible even though I'm aware of their well done policy. She told me to bring it up with the manager, I said no problem. We walked over to the location of the grill and the manager was making a point to not make eye contact with me so I didn't go out of my way to bother her. Then I noticed a party of about 4 people walk in and she starts completely losing her cool, angrily trashing them under her breath "are you f****'n kidding me? Ugh! You can't be f***'n serious," as she's clearly upset that they're still busy. Then I look over and notice the grease the fries are being cooked in is COMPLETELY black. Now I'm starting to get turned off... Then what happened next left me completely speechless. I look over to the grill and the young man cooking was LITERALLY staring me down. I looked behind me and to each side and realized wow, he's really aggressively staring at me. I looked down then up again, still staring at me, Turned to my girlfriend and asked what time it was and back, still staring at me. Finally after about 30 seconds he turns back to the grill and was cursing me out and shaking his head as he angrily flipped burgers. This is where I'd had enough and walked to the register to get a refund. The "manager" came back to void my bill as the young man at the grill's demeanor became even more aggressive (now his complaints were getting louder, although I couldn't make out the words), and a couple minutes later I was on my way. No way is this establishment EVER getting my business, that young man on the grill needs to be fired (an obvious loose cannon waiting to explode) and that manager needs to be reprimanded and completely re-trained.
