I still specifically remember where I had my first Five Guys food and what the experience was like. I read all the reviews on the wall, tried some peanuts, soaked in the atmosphere of busy activity off Woodhaven Blvd, in Queens. It was delicious, the burgers were fried to perfection much to my surprise. And the fries filled an entire medium sized paper bag. My date and I were blown away. I moved to Jersey and recently decided to go to Five Guys since I was out. The cashier greeted me with only a grunt take my somewhat pricey order, and got a little nicer. The burger was so so and the fries over cooked. My milkshake was very good though. So the final word is: living in NYC you develop a taste for food on a higher level. The bar is set that way. NJ chains like Five Guys and Chipotle don't keep their counters and food prep areas as clean as they should. The service is only ok. I'm not sure how they still attract so many diners! Four stars because I ate the entire cheeseburger, all the fries and the milkshake. It wasn't as good as the first time, but is anything really ever? PS: now Subway Sandwich shops and food are outstanding. The service is very good. You can tell the franchisees have invested in some training. The place was big and surprisingly, open to dine in at that time. My order was prepared well ahead of time since I was the only customer there and probably the first one lol. I had a couple of cheeseburgers and some fries. The burger patty tasted good and the bun was soft. The fries also were decent. The prices seemed a little high for a burger/ sandwich joint. Just too inconsistent, even though they're a little closer than others and offer shakes, the superior consistency of quality of service and freshness of fries from others places will often send me away from this location. Good example is online orders, roughly a third of the time the order gets lost in the handoff from my announcement and it sits there ready until I inquire, post the reasonable wait time. 3/2020 - burnt fries, burger patties charred to a crisp and 25 minutes from order placement until I received my food. There's little consistency between stores. I often eat at the S. Plainfield location which is excellent. This location is closer to home for me, but the quality is not there. Twice I've experienced soggy burgers with little taste and greasy fries that almost collapsed the bag. This was the most dirtiest store I have ever ever been in . It was not busy I was the only one in the store. The counter had French fries all over and the counter was so dirty. Looking at the cooking area and the floor had so much food on the floor. There were five teenagers just standing area doing nothing. I was so tempted to say something. Im starting to like this place the more I keep giving it a try. I had Bacon Cheeseburger here a few weeks ago when I visited my little brother at this area. As topings I threw in some grilled onions, bbq sauce, mayo, and ketchup. What I like about this place is their burger is pretty well done by the time it gets to you, which I love. I've been coming here for some time and they've always been very helpful. They always tell "1 in!" and I am always greeted with a smile. The place is kept fairly clean as well. Any time I had an issue or I needed a side of something (that I forgot to mention) they are more than willing to help me out. The burger itself is cooked to done. This place is great for a quick burger and excellent fries. The meat is great quality, although on the small side. If you pack the burger with "everything" the buns get soggy pretty quickly. It also doesn't help that they use some kind of foil wrap. So, if you're doing takeout make sure you eat it relatively quickly or it's going to be soggy. They have hands down the best fries anywhere. Freshly cut, freshly fried in peanut oil. Crunchy and super fresh. You can go for the cajun fries if you like them spicy. Also, get the large fries if it's more than 1 person in your party. It's easily enough for 4 people. Stay away from their hot dogs or grilled cheese. They're absolute crap. Nothing more to be said about them really. They are HORRIBLE!!! Staff is great, always friendly and quick. They make sure that you're happy with the order and don't take any shortcuts...except for that one guy that puts mayo on my burger every now and then. If you have the time it's much better than a fast food burger like McDs/Burger King etc. There is an endless amount of toppings which is nice but the burger itself seems to lack a basic salt an pepper seasoning before it hit the grill.
