It's been a really long time since I've been to Five Guys. Sometimes you just want to remember what it's like... and eat free peanuts. The burgers are pretty solid actually. The meat is juicy and seasoned well, there is a generous list of toppings you can choose on your burger, and a "little" burger is actually a regular sized burger. I like the Little Bacon Cheeseburger. The fries are pretty good too, hot and crispy, and I love the Cajun seasoning on them. The only issue I had was that they doused the fries in so much Cajun seasoning that it was so salty to the point of inedibility. I had to wipe off every french fry in order to eat it and it still left my mouth feeling tingly and me feeling very thirsty. Pretty good burgers and fries. Let me preface this by saying that I am a "verge-atarian" (On the verge of vegetarianism) and even I can appreciate the carnivorours, juicy joy that is Five Guys. The "little" burger is big enuf por moi and I load that bun with all the complimentary veggies. (All the toppings are free - other than cheese and bacon - which are not even neccessary - given the amount of artery clogging fat already present in aforementioned juicy burgers.) I love this place. LOVE. However, it is out of this universe unhealthy. Burgers are super greasy, loaded with whatever condiments you want, a fresh bun, mmmm just delicious. Cajun fries are fresh and seriously yummy too. I come here maybe 1-2 times a year, but if health/calories didn't matter I'd be here a lot more. Service is quick and very "Philly". Mini burger with grilled onions (and whatever other toppings you want) is the way to go. The portion size for the mini is just right; the "regular" burger with two patties is excessive unless you're anemic and need to bulk up on extra red meat. Fries ain't bad. Kosher dog not really worth it (might as well go for the burger), and they don't have sauerkraut anyway. Compared to 500 degrees, Five Guys is bit less expensive, but it's a solid option if you just want a no-frills burger. You won't get the brioche bun, fried egg, avocado, or even kim chee options, but again, if all you want is juicy beef between two pieces of bread, the burgers here will hit the spot. Ate at the new Five Guys on Walnut between 11th and 12th a couple days ago. In terms of flavor and hunger satisfaction, there isn't a better burger place nearby. Now, I haven't been to Bobby's Burger Palace yet, so for some I know that may not be true. But this place is close by and absolutely delicious. They keep things simple over there. Burgers already come with two patties, so if you want less, you ask for a little burger. You get to customize what you want on it, and there are lots of things to choose from. Fries are extra, there aren't any meal deals here, so while the $5-6 burger is tempting, know that adding fries and a drink DOES bring your total to more like $10. It's worth it, though. The fries are made fresh, and actually taste it, with peanut oil, which is tasty and healthier than some alternatives. I'll also say this, the staff there is super nice and helpful. I got to strike up conversations with them multiple times. It's a big place, there's lots of places to sit, and it's bright and clean. I also love that they don't advertise, and subsist solely off of word of mouth. They line their walls with their commendations from around the country. You end up feeling like you have to agree with them by the end of it. It's a pretty great burger. This is the closest burger joint to get to my favourite from the West Coast, In-N-Out Burger, and that to me is the highest praise I can give it. I love that these burgers are epic! I love how many toppings you can get for free! I love that it's not much more expensive than Wendy's! I love that they give you a ton a fries! I love that they actually have spicy menu options! I even love the simple sesame buns! I love that they're open on Sundays! So suck it, 500 degrees! People in Center City eat lunch on Sundays too! I love that they give two patties on the standard burger but wish they had told me beforehand because I woulda gotten the smaller one-patty version instead. Well...its better than McDonald's or Burger King, in any case. Its great for a what it is: a simple burger & fries joint to grab a bite or a fast lunch. You're not going to get locally-sourced, specialty-mixed ground beef cooked to medium rare. Instead, you get a choice: one patty or two? Cheese or no cheese? Which of the myriad free toppings would you like? Remember, you are here because this is NOT fancy or expensive. You get what you pay for. And what you pay for is damn good. My go-to order is a little cheeseburger ("little" is one patty and quite enough even for my sizable appetite) with A1, grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, tomato, and extra pickles. Dee-lish. I usually go with fries, you can easily share a regular order among a table of 4. Okay, I'll be the slob and defend this place a little. It is extremely clean inside, though a little too clean... and too sterile. The inside has no personality. However, this city is so cheesesteak struck that I've noticed there's no places to get the same cheap, greasy, comfort food burger. You've either got pub burgers or McDees. This is a great alternative. I think its cool to have a restaurant that offers unlimited toppings, which I gladly pass on. There was a lot of hype surrounding this place when it opened, well I as much hype as a burger chain can produce anyway. I feel like the hype was unjustified. Sure, the burgers are better than the Wendy's down the block and the toppings are plentiful but they lack the "wow" factor I was expecting. Burgers are all made with fresh, never frozen ground beef, and this is a noticeable factor. Fries are hand cut potatoes which is also a nice attribute. Between the hours of 12-2 there is typically a line 20 deep, and although it moves quickly can still be quite overwhelming and confusing. I recommend giving the burgers a try...they aren't bad, just not good enough to be famous. read more

Busted my Five Guys Cherry! I thought the location, staff and end product was pretty good! Location: great. The dining room is a nice sized and everyone appeared to enjoy their food. Nice windows onto the Street to people watch. I had questions and the cashier was very helpful in making suggestions and even gave me something extra after I told him time in a Five Guys. After ordering I moved down to the end of the where orders are assembled. Staff was clean, professional and worked heard to avoid a backup. However, when the place is packed, expect a wait. I ordered a junior bacon cheeseburger with a ton of toppings and it was exactly like I envisioned. The burger itself was moist but a little bland, but it wasn't "junior" in any way. It's a decent sized burger. As I was going out to dinner later, I didn't' order fries or a soda. I thought the burger was good enough to give this place a second shot. read more

One word to describe five guys: It's the Bizarro In-N-Out (and if you say In-N-Out Burger you are not from Southern California - we never say the burger part). Five guys is definitely the only place I would go for a fast food burger, I like the choice of ingredients and generally the burger is cooked well. The bun is a little squishy compared to the slightly toasted In-N-Out buns though. Fries are so so. Regular fries are too salty...cajun are better. Prices are ridiculously high for a fast food joint, and why don't they have meal deals? Service is cool. I have noticed the guys are more competent than the girls at this location. Five guys has the red and white decor of In-N-out, but definitely not the cleanliness. I'm glad I'm leaving the bizarro In-N-Out for the original soon! read more

I don't understand what is so great about this place... the only reason why I ever went here was because I heard great reviews from everyone I knew. I went during the weekend, there was maybe 2 or 3 people ahead of me and it probably took me around 25 minutes to get my burger. I mean I'd assume you have the meat prepared and ready to get thrown on the grill, I didn't know you had to go and kill the cow... Once I ate my burger, I was sick to my stomach. I knew it wasn't just me because the friend I went with also got sick. It basically ruined my day and made me feel miserable.
