My niece had a gift card for this place that she received for Christmas. I have eaten at Five Guys at a different location about 10 years ago and this one probably about 4 years ago. This was during the week, so I was hoping this wouldn't take too long to grab dinner. In all the years, I have never seen this place packed or overcrowded. This location seems to be in a pretty good spot if you need to run to Vons or Trader Joe's. Place was pretty empty when we got there, there might have been 3 or 4 parties eating.  There was a good amount of seating available. The menu is pretty simple, they do not have a lot of different options. (burgers, dogs, milkshakes, fries-variation of 'sandwiches with the ingredients they have already) I always expect that if you don't have a big variety, the food you serve better be top notch. (just like In-N-Out, their menu is pretty small and basic, but it sure seems they do just fine making burgers, fries and shakes) Items we ordered: Cheeseburger, let me tell you this was $12.89! No drink included, no fries, nothing else. You can add as many toppings as you like but for that price?!? It was a fairly good size burger, all their meat is fresh and made to order. It came out all hot and melted, you can check out the photos. I also love spots that do grilled mushrooms and grilled onions. Got a large order of regular fries: (if you look at the photo, it is a pretty large cup of fries, which overflows in the brown bag it comes in) The pricetag: $9.59. I got a regular drink which was $3.39. My meal came to $29.26?!?! What in the world? I could have gotten a steak dinner for this price. My niece had a $25 gift card and she was worried she wouldn't have enough money. (I had to give her $2) She also ordered a cheeseburger and regular Cajun fries ($7.29) and a chocolate milkshake. I had a $15 gift card and decided to check the place out, my girlfriend and I each got a cheeseburger and split a small fry and shake and it came out to $40! Today's experience at five guys made me feel like I was in a cartoon--and not in a good way. All we ordered was one regular fry, for $7.29, no burgers or anything that would take a long time to cook. We ordered at 1:17, and by 1:35 we hadn't heard anything. We asked about our order, to which they said they hadn't even started. Mind you, the restaurant was relatively empty there were only like 8-10 people in the entire restaurant (as pictured), so it's not like they were super busy with other orders. Once we finally received our single order of fries about 30 minutes after ordering, we realized they gave us the "little fry" instead of our order of "regular fries," meaning we paid $7.29 for a much smaller order of fries. After bringing this to the workers attention, they seemed annoyed and reluctantly decided to give us what we paid for. After another 10 minutes of waiting, we received this (see image of brown bag of fries), no apology or sense of feeling bad for the horrible service. They didn't even bother to give us the fries in their regular container, and just threw some loose fries in the bag. In total, we probably didn't even receive the fries you would receive in a regular order of fries, and waited around 40 minutes for what we ordered. I'm not one to leave reviews on places, but this was the worst service i've received at a restaurant ever. One of my best friends and I headed over to Liberty Station to have a nice picnic and catch a film under the stars. While shopping at Trader Joes for some snacks, my keen eye spotted the small Five Guys sign and I freaked out. After coming off I freshly unseating In-N-Out as the people' favorite burger, you know I had to drop in and see if their best was really better than THE best. The lines here are pretty long and head right out the back door. Five Guys offers their guests raw peanuts to munch on while they wait but that has the side effect of littering the entire restaurant floor with discarded peanut skins and shells making the whole place seem really dirty. Plus, it wasn't really appetizing watching a bunch of extremely overweight folks jam their grubby hands into the bin over and over to replenish their cheeks with the stuff. To compare burgers, I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with everything, along with an order of fries. The meal took a while to prepare and there was almost nowhere to sit, especially not outside at their dog-friendly tables, and people would just crowd up the pick-up area waiting for their grub. When we did receive it, I noticed that the bag was completely soaked through with oil, and as Homer Simpson protests, it's no good unless he can see through the oily bag. I just find it to be a little gross. Finally the time came to take a bite out if my humongous sandwich and I found it quite delicious. Ordering it with everything did sort of muddle the flavors all together and it was difficult to appreciate each part for what it was. The fries were kind of soggy once I got to them, but were well seasoned and cooked well done. Tasty as they were, they were on the pricey side. We didn't even bother with a drink because it would have brought the total cost to $20 for the 2 of us and that was kind of ridiculous for fast food. While the Five Guys burger was pretty good, the question you have to ask yourself is whether it was twice as good to cost twice as much as the awesome In-N-Out burger. Ultimately the answer is no, maybe it was on par or a little better, but definitely not worth the huge price tag you're asked to pay and the distance you have to drive to go get it when there's a perfectly good In-N-Out everywhere. Don't judge me. I'm in love with Five Guys. Nothing wrong with a fat Asian kid that likes burgers. The grand opening of Five Guys was today. They couldn't have picked a better location than right below my office. The smell of greasy burgers and fries fried in peanut oil makes me happy to come to work. I had my first taste of Five Guys on the East Coast. I'm a fan of their burgers and fries. It's a moderately priced burger place, but they offer free toppings on their burgers which includes grilled onions, jalapenos, and grilled mushrooms. They give you 2 hamburger patties and it's served on sesame buns. Since everything is made to order, you can help yourself to free peanuts while you wait for your food to cook. If you are there with a friend, just order the regular fries. They have a reputation of giving a lot of fries. I don't normally call out other restaurants, but I think Five Guys is IN and other places are OUT. A little about my credentials: I first got into cooking & food when I was in college. After being rejected by numerous girls and getting zero action, I decided it was time for a change. I needed a new makeover to boost my geeky, engineering image. Another reason why Point Loma is so awesome! I like the free peanuts because it kept us occupied as we waited for our food. The bacon cheeseburger was yummy in my tummy and went excellent with the cajun fries. Order a large if you have someone to share it with because it's a huge amount of fries for an average person. Huh...I think we should revisit some basics here. I got a bacon cheese burger that was more of a tossed burger salad than anything. The patties goes between the buns for starters, anything else are just toppings in between really. Of all the Five Guys I've been to, this visit has left me slightly disappointed at my overly priced tossed salad burger. It was quite a messy meal, yikes...
