14Dec2023. Arrived at 9pm. Only four people were seated and eating. So, the place was pretty dead. There were probably more employees than customers prior to my arrival. Restrooms were blocked with an "out of order" sign placed nearby. At least there were hand sanitizers available. My group of four were ready to order, when we were asked by the cashier to wait three minutes while the register rebooted; or something like that. We took our seats in a booth ten feet away - waiting. A group of three entered shortly after, and they proceed to the register. I'm looking at this employee, expecting him to call us when the computer finishes rebooting. Nope. Instead, the employee starts answering this new group of customers' questions. I look at this dude and he mouths to me that he'll take my order after the group of three - who came in AFTER me. I waited a minute. Hillcrest location: Sunday 3/21/21 approximately 2:45pm. I was treated and given the shitiest service known to date. Julian and Tati should be out back washing the dumpsters to match their awful attitudes! She calls herself a manager, proof that any idiot with too much makeup for sanitary purposes...(You're touching food, not on TV), can receive a title. Julian needs to listen to the customers not his coworkers gossip behind him. I asked for a refund and took my business elsewhere. The burger I had here was awesome(cheese, mushrooms, pickles etc). . I also had the Cajun fries and strawberry milkshake which tasted great as well. Service by Alondra and Bobby was also excellent. I subtract one star for high prices and below avg atmosphere. The music was too loud, AC too high and the seating area is uncomfortable but it is large with outdoor seating. What's going on here? My last 3 visits have been let downs and today was the nail; both orders came out wrong, cheese not melted, sloppy & soggy mess. Guy at counter impossible to hear let alone understand, the awful music they play was WAY too loud. After reading many reviews about this place I bookmarked it and planned to give it a try on my next trip to San Diego. I'm glad I did! I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger "All The Way" (Mayo, Lettuce, Pickles, Tomatoes, Grilled Onions, Grilled Mushrooms, Ketchup, Mustard) and with Jalapenos, a Bacon Dog with Grilled Onions, Relish, and Mustard....and French Fries. Since we don't have one of these in Vegas, I had to try a little bit of everything! After a few minutes, the food came out and what a surprise.....the Bacon Cheeseburger was actually a Double! After further investigation, it turns out that if you want a single patty Burger, you have to order a "Little Cheeseburger".....ha, how was I suppose to know that?! Now I was looking at a TON of food! Oh well....I jumped right into it and tried the Fries first. They were very good. You can tell they were fresh because they had that "Just Been Cut" flavor to it.....I don't know how to describe it, but I can just taste fresh cut Fries. Next I attacked the "Double" Bacon Cheeseburger.....it was huge and I could barely hold it in my hands let alone take a bite out of it. Somehow I managed to do so. It was full of flavor. The combination of all of the toppings was perfect. I was worried that the Grilled Mushrooms might overwhelm the Burger, but they put just the right amount in the Burger so that it didn't do that....I could taste each topping with every bite and the Jalapenos were freshly cut and not the pickled kind....which is what I prefer. Next I went for the Bacon Dog....by this time I was beginning to feel a little full, but I went after it aggressively before I could stop myself....(thanks Adam Richman for tips on how to gorge yourself!). The Bacon Dog had a nice flavor to it, but with the Bacon it was very Salty. The Hot Dog would stand well on it's own....next time, I will pass on the Bacon. The Relish wasn't too sweet, which is how I like it and they put just the right amount of Onions on it. Overall, this was an awesome experience.....the food was great. Now, I've read on some reviews that this is better than In N Out.....being a huge In N Out fan here's my 2 cents on it: Both are great burgers, but what Five Guys Burgers lacked is that "addictive" quality that In N Out possesses.....for all you In N Out fans out there, you know what I mean.....the Spongy Bun with the Runny, Drippy Sauce and Animal Style Toppings.....there's something about an In N Out Burger that will make you drive for miles, wait in long lines, and jam that Burger down your throat in your car while dripping it on your shirt at 2 in the morning......I don't see myself wanting to do that with Five Guys. I can't believe I have never been here before today! The mini burger was enough for me because it was pretty big with all the toppings. The french fries were good because they were big and you know they were made out of real potatoes! There was no line when we stopped by today so we were able to grab our burgers pretty quick. The question of the day, and this year. Is 5 guys better than In-N-Out? Is an apple better than an orange? Is a cat better than a dog? Ultimately, you're comparing two very different things. 5-guys is more like a fancy fast food restaurant than it is a fast food restaurant. Yup, they're fancy. Fancy as in more expensive and better toppings, not fancy as in cloth napkins and take a girl here of a first date. The "everything" has the same ol' standard stuff just like In-n-Out but what it adds is grilled mushrooms! Grilled mushrooms that we couldn't really taste. The cheeseburger is not a single cheeseburger. It's actually a double. Yum. If you were to do a basic like to like comparison, foregoing the more expensive toppings to get a fair comparison, I would say I prefer In-n-Out. Maybe it's because I'm used to it or maybe it's because the ONE 5-guys burger I had was just not amazing. What 5 guys does have a leg up on is the fries. This place is okay, a little on the pricey side, but well worth giving it a try. I got a Bacon cheese burger with season fries. It was good i guess but i think it could have been better. It says you can choose your toppings and make it how you like all free of charge. With that said, that's cool and all... but i like for the restaurant to find out which combinations taste good, then offer me the best combinations of stuff. For example, In N Out, has their special sauce "basically thousand island dressing" they just put it on everything (unless specified).. no one ever says i want mustard, or more relish, cause it's good the way it is. I feel like you should take the majority of decision making out of my hands and just make me what taste good. If i have to choose ALL my toppings there is too much room for ME to screw it up, and of course it's Never MY fault.. So who am I gonna blame?! They are better than In N Out in someways though, the meat patties are thicker, the fries are MUCH better and offer them in a seasoned variety, and free peanuts while you wait. Verdict: a good burger that i think i might have screwed up (didn't get relish or mustard) Pros: Lots of options when it comes to toppings all free of charge, fresh, meat patties, fries, although not super crispy like Micky D's is much better than In N Out and can get them with seasoning on top, you can get BACON, something that In N Out doesn't offer. Lots of parking Cons: Parking lot is oddly shaped, and somewhat confusing. No Shakes. I'm not going to compare the 5 Guys burger with In-N-Out's burger because frankly, I don't care about the differences and I can make a better burger than either joint, and so can you. The burger was enormous and very filling, but not a good value. It's a ton of food but still too expensive for a fast food burger. Also, on what planet do people actually salt their ground beef before cooking their burgers? If you know the answer, please PM me because I am moving there. Tip to Earthlings: Ground beef must be salted if you want the burger itself to have flavor. It's a pretty simple rule but no one seems to have learned it, including all 5 guys at 5 Guys. The cajun fries were excellent and nicely spicy, and the regular order was more than enough for two. I just visited this place for the first time and still have a hard time remembering the name...I thought it was 5 brothers or 5 friends but it's 5 guys... Let's talk about the location: in front of liberty station...off of Rosecrans Ave. Let's talk service: Young eager adults that give u an estimate of time that the food will be served...my estimate was 7 minutes. I asked the young lad about the little burger option in which he pointed towards the buns on the grill and said it only had one. I thought it was strange but later on I understood where the misunderstanding came in. Read on... Let's talk ordering the food: By the front and middle of the line are cardboard buckets filled with shelled peanuts and little paper trays. These are free for all. I ordered the cheeseburgers with most of the trimmings, these toppings are unique in that you can order up front whether u want mayonaise, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup, relish, mustard, jalapenos and even MUSHROOMS. There are even sauces you can choose...BBQ, A-1, hot sauce. A bit overwhelming huh? No worries these options are listed on the plastic board overhead, but it's nice to know what they offer before you arrive. Let's talk about taste: The burger tasted very juicy and cheesy, I chose the cheeseburger, it tasted like a burger you made at home on a gas grill. The hamburger buns I found to be readily squished by the tough foil and later soggy by all the juices from the onions and mushrooms not to mention from the juicy patties. The fries were semi soft darker in color and overall tasted like fresh potatoes. Let's talk price: The burger came out wrapped in aluminum foil...the burger was quite tall and when unwrapped I found out why. The cheeseburger I order was around $5 which is twice the price of an In-N-out burger however to my surprise there were two meat patties so this equates the regular cheeseburger to a double double. So around 2 dollars more...this was when I understood what the cashier meant, the little burger has one meat patty while the regular burgers have two. Just saw that Five Guys got awarded best fast food burger buy Zagat. Zagat probably didn't come to this location. I've heard of the awesome burgers at this chain before, but my experience didn't meet expectations. The bun was soggy and a soft mush. I thought the meat wasn't very flavorful. The fries were also very soggy which is a disappointment since the ones that weren't were actually pretty good. In and Out still has a better fast food burger in my opinion. Pro-tip: If you have a peanut allergy, stay away from this place! Peanuts out in the open and peanut oil in the fryer. I applaud Five Guys' attempt at breaking into In-N-Out's market. ...Ok, I really don't, but I just needed a changeup from In-N-Out because I can only have it so many times before I inevitably get bored. The burger patties are nothing special; out of all the times I've been here, I've never been wowed by them. it's the house that you can pack in between the buns that makes this place stand out. You can add pretty much any topping you want to your order, including the all-too popular (under dispute) A-1 Steak Sauce. Word of warning: a "junior" burger is really a normal burger, and a normal burger is actually a double patty. You know, in case people are inevitably confused by their lingo. Cajun fries are good though. I always appreciate how a "small" is actually way more than you expect because they purposely dump extra fries in the bag after they fill up the cup. I've been hearing about this chain for a couple of years, but hadn't had the opportunity to check them out....until now. A group of seven of us hit this one up last weekend. I mean, I want a Diet Coke, I put my cup under the Diet Coke label and press where it says "push". Done, right? But NOOOOOOOooooo....now it's look at the touch screen. Find the Diet Coke logo. Push logo. Find the version of Diet Coke you want. Push that. Geesh. Back to the burgers....they arrived, and OMG. This is a good burger! Literally the worst hamburger and some of the worst fries I've ever had. The first issue is the price, nearly the same price of a fancy restaurant hamburger. After a lengthy wait for the food the burger arrives with a copious amount of fries. The burger patty is flavorless and gives you that greasy bloated feeling, the opposite of feeling satisfied with your food. The bun; a standard cheap poppy seed bun with the same amount of flavor as cardboard. Fries looked amazing and naturally cut, but tasted of nothing but starch and oil. The fact that 5 Guys has expanded past the first restaurant will truly be one of the greatest mysteries of my life. Delicious burgers (they are doubles) made fresh to order and come with all the fixins ( i love that you can get BBQ sauce and jalapenos on them!). Fries are "county fair" style with skin on and cooked in peanut oil. Speakin of peanuts - they have boxes of them sittin around and you can help yourself while you wait for your burger (kinda random to have peanuts, but whatever). **WARNING** For those w/ severe PEANUT ALLERGIES, this place is a nightmare for you. They have boxes and boxes of peanuts every where for everyone to grab by the hand full, as they are free and remnants of the snack are all over the floor. Let me start by saying this place has gotten really expensive. If you are on a budget go somewhere else otherwise you can enjoy a really good burger and a lot of yummy fires. Today we order 2 Cheeseburgers, 1 Regular drink ($2.39), and 1 Regular order of fries our total was $ 24.26 we remember the day we made the same order and the total was around $15.00. Well enough said about their increasing prices. Lets us talk about how good their fires are. They are made fresh on site, thick cut, have a little of skin still on them, fried in peanut oil, and you can add Cajun seasoning if you feel adventures. We like them with no salt, we add salt to taste once we get them. I feel that sometimes when I forget to say "no salt" they come cover in a lot salt and they are not as good. We get the regular size ($4.29) they are enough for two people because they top them off in the bag so you always get more than what the actual size. Now lets talk about the burgers. We get the Cheeseburger ($7.89) with comes wit two patties and american cheese. I like mine with Lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, and (a little) muster. My husband likes only mayo and grilled jalapeños on his. Either was we both enjoy our burgers a lot. They are a decent size (bigger than In-n-Out) the patties have a nice meaty juicy flavor and yes they are a little bit on the greasy side but they are GOOD. The bun is basic bun nothing to fancy but it all comes together to make a great tasting burger. I've never tried their hotdogs but my husband swear they are not as good at the burgers. He keeps telling me it is call Five Guys Burgers and Fires not Five Guys Hotdogs and Fries :P If I ever try one I'll update this review and let you know what I think. Another item I must try next time I go is their Milkshakes. It looks like they use soft serve so I'm not sure how good they will be but they have a lot of flavors to choose from so will see. Other than the increasing prices we love this place and will continue to come to get our burger and fries fix. We have never had a problem at this location and we've come in the early morning when they are just opening their door to late at time almost at closing he staff has always been nice and help full and our food has been hot and delicious. Five Guys may well be the best fast food burger in the U.S. (I certainly think so, at least.) This location is awesome, as it's sort of hidden in the Liberty Station area. As a result, you get short lines, blazing speed and exceptional service. If for whatever reason you have yet to try Five Guys, just do yourself a favor (and thank me later). read more

I just stopped in for a milkshake before class. They looked delicious and I was craving something sweet. The milkshake itself was really good, but I was really disappointed by the way it was made. The guy who made it had a great attitude. It seemed like he loved working for Five Guys BUT he made my milkshake using the same greasy gloves that he was using to make the fries and burgers. When I got my milkshake, the container was covered in the same seasoning they put on the fries. Every time I went to sip some, it smelled like fries. My hands now also smell like fries. WOW. I had never ever been here or even heard of this place until earlier this year... and I'm so glad I tried it :D They have a set price depending on the type of burger you want (so you can get all the toppings available at no extra charge). The regular burgers come with 2 pattys! This was quite the surprise because it doesn't say it on their menu nor did the cashier informed us of this even though we did mention it was our first time there. Anyway, they have regular fries and cajun style. My bf and I shared the regular sized cajun style fries ($2 something?) and they were GOOD! They were pretty decent sized as well, it was the size of a water cup filled all the way and then an extra scoop that made them overflow onto the outside, but it was inside the bad, so it was cool. Our burgers were AWESOME!!! They kind of reminded me of In n out's... but with a little twist to them. They also offer complementary peanuts =) You can just grab as many as you want on your tray from boxes and boxes they have lined up by the cashier... So if ever you are by Point Loma and happen to pass by the Liberty Station, TRY this place out! You will not regret it =) read more
