Dropped in for a beer, and tried to sit at a tiny high top table. I was told I wouldn't be served because I only wanted to order a beer, not food. What kind of pub does that? Came here on Easter Sunday with a group of 11 people (including one child). Host and waiter were awesome, so friendly and gave great suggestions for menu options. Everyone commented that their food was delicious and the cocktail options were excellent. If you have a group def opt for the Sangria pitcher and order nothing else, so much for the money! Def recommend thay I ordered: Tavern Burger, Fried Sammy, Tater tots Our waiter Séan recommended and others in our party had: shepherd's pie (at least half of our party ordered it and thought it was ABSOLUTELY delicious!) Fun cocktails at good prices, not bad service but not enough room to move around freely

Five horses was chosen with an eye on proximity to Jordan Hall's Christmas program. My first impression of the bar area was very positive. It looked like a great place for a beverage and food if you are single. We sat in the back dining room and service was excellent. As others have reported the serving sizes are small but tasty. Our only complaint was the beef brisket in the Huevos Rancheros. Didn't fit, didn't taste that good. Some cooks affectation. Eggs were fresh but small. Avocado was excellent. The breakfast plate was a better value. With no tablecloths and paper napkins it felt like bar more than a tavern. At $40 apiece for 6 beers and 3 plates it is expensive for what you get. If value is not an issue this place is great. And they have a great variety of beers sensibly priced. read more

I really wanted to like this place but the service was not good. The server forgot about us outside and didn't give us any napkins or utensils. She completely forgot my daughter's lemonade. I've been a loyal customer of Five Horses since moving to Boston in 2018.  Have always loved this place........ that is until now. I came here on Saturday for a casual dinner and waited for an hour at the bar for our table with friends. Had one glass of wine and an app while waiting. The bartender was cool. .............But then the night quickly took a twist............... After waiting for an hour for our table we were finally seated. I got up to use the bathroom and when I returned to our table it had come to my attention that our extremely judgmental and rude server had taken away our silverware...... claiming I had "stumbled" on my way to the bathroom and could not be served. So yes........ after waiting an hour for our table and finally being seated....... our server claimed I had stumbled to the bathroom and would not be able to serve us food.......... insane. Didn't know the servers here turned into the "stumbled" police. Mind you I was wearing platform Doc Martens. I'd like to see him try to walk around in those. I have NEVER experienced anything like this at a restaurant or bar before.  I had one glass of wine and in no means stumbled or was intoxicated.................... I loved the atmosphere at this place and was so glad we went on a nice day and could sit outside!! The menu options are refreshingly unique and there are plenty of beer options- I went for a sour rosé ale and was not disappointed. They also offer many different unique sides - we tried the salt and vinegar chips as well as the tots and we loved them both! Living in the South End I am always excited to try local spots! 5 horses is one of the only true dog friendly places I have been- many places claim to be dog friendly but make you tie your pup outside the fence or separate them from you as you eat. However 5 horses values the 4 legged customers just as much as those on 2 legs! I was made to feel welcome when my party of 4 plus my dog arrived! Now I understand some dogs are not the most well behaved but if you are going to bring your dog out to eat please do everyone else a favor and make sure your dog can behave in that environment! We arrived around 1pm on Saturday for brunch and only had to wait around 15 minutes for a table outside under an umbrella. Our waiter was in a great mood and joked around with everyone on the patio! He also brought out water for my dog and gave him lots of attention!! For my meal I went with the fried chicken sandwich- the honey on the bun gave it a great flavor, a little sweet but not over powering- I did pair mine with some ketchup since I cant go without it! I made sure to get tater tots on the side and trust me you can not go wrong - everyone was jealous and tried to keep stealing them off my plate! My friends went with the fish tacos- make sure to order 3 if you are really hungry as the tacos are on the small side- though the fillings are generous the taco shell itself is small. The Caprese Grilled cheese was a lightened up version of the plain sandwich and the basil was a nice touch! Overall- great service and the place really is dog friendly! read more

I've been coming to five horses tavern for over a year and it's always been consistent with quality and quantity. It's a great casual spot for drinks and pub style food. Their prices are decent. My favorite dish is the fried chicken salad. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because I've had to wait 30 minutes sometimes even with a reservation. Went for brunch around 11:30 on a Sunday. Outside seating was fairly full, but we were able to get a table. Server took our drink order and we waited 20 minutes before drinks were delivered by a different server. Never saw our server while waiting for drinks. After drinks delivered, waited 10 more minutes to order food. At this point there is no one else sitting outside. Food took at least 30 minutes-2 simple orders. Food was decent not exceptional. Not a fan of plain soft bagels, but pastrami salmon was excellent. Asked for a to go box, waited 10 minutes then had to ask for check. Poor service. Or just bad server? It is an emotional day dropping a child off for college, so I think the way to deal with all that emotion is to experience a great meal. Last weekend we stopped in at the 5 horses tavern based on some positive yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. The staff were all very nice and did their best to make us and our puppy comfortable. The outdoor seating is comfortable and they have an inventory of dog bowls so your puppy isn't thirsty. Sadie my 5 year old golden retriever really enjoyed her burger cooked perfectly to medium. The K-town wings were delicious. The order had 6 wings I think and I got three - lucky me. We also started with the Cast iron corn bread which was so delicious. You have to try it if you're a corn bread fan. One last minute addition to the starters was the Grilled street corn. We are so glad we got that. It was flavorful and fresh. For dinner we had the Kfcgh which was more like fried chicken then Cornish game hen but it was tasty! The Carne Asana taco was very good but unless you already full get 2 or 3. My daughter got one but she never eats much. It was good for her. The Duck burrito rice bowl was really good and a different twist on a burrito. The Heirloom tomato and berry salad. Was fresh and quickly devoured. I had the Fig and watermelon carpaccio salad with grilled chicken. Being new to the area, I have only been able to try this restaurant twice. So far, I've gone for a late lunch and a Sunday brunch. For lunch I tried a burger and my friend and I split the corn bread. The burger was good, but what I rave about is the corn bread (great comfort food). When I went for brunch, after finding out they ran out of the eggs benne (my favorite) I ended up opting for the "South End Sunrise,"pizza. It was topped with hollandaise sauce, cheese, egg, spinach and prosciutto. I highly recommend it and would suggest sharing it with someone. Some other dishes that were had at brunch were the "Tavern Breakfast," "The Censored," and "Southern Comfort," which were all highly raved about. However, the one negative thing I have to say is about the service that we had. It took our server 40 minutes to take our order, and 45 to get out first and last round of drinks because we were never asked whether we wanted anything after that. About 10 minutes later the server came over to let us know they ran out of the eggs benne that half our table ordered. With that said, after arriving at 11:00 we didn't end up eating our meals until around 12:30. But on the bright side, once we got our meals we were all very satisfied! I've been coming to Fiver Horses Tavern in South Boston for years now, and I also started visiting the Sommerville location as well. Their staff is amazing, extremely friendly, polite and they make your dinner experience incredible. Their food and drinks are delicious!!! I love everything on their menu. The architecture is definitely high end, it's an amazing restaurant for a date or a special occasion. I always recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family!!! I had the veggie burger (HUGE, like size of my head huge) and asparagus while my coworker had the caprese grilled cheese with jalapeno cheddar potatoes and another had the mac n cheese. The burger was really good and you can see the vegetables in it, which is always nice to know that it's not...whatever is in a morning glory burger. The asparagus was supposed to come with a lemon sauce, but I didn't get it (I didn't ask for it because I thought it coated the asparagus but by the time I ate it the server was gone and it's not a big deal). The jalapeno cheddar potatoes were good, but not spicy to me; the mac n cheese was super cheesy and I liked that they used larger shells (you get more cheese for your bite). I had the now extinct coconut lime bread pudding, which sadly tasted like neither. I had a hint of coconut but mostly tasted the caramel on the plate (there was a lot). First, the map above is wrong, and I sent the corrected location to Yelp moderators. It's located on Columbus and Worcester/Claremont Park (street changes name at Columbus.) The short short version: Come here for solid drinks and maybe tater tots, but expect it to be crowded/loud. Do not come here for dinner. They don't take reservations (you need to be there in person but they will call your cell when a table opens up). Bar seats are first come though. The bar staff is knowledgeable and super friendly. Last call is 11:45, although they stay open later than that. The long version: The bf and I rolled in around 7pm on a Friday. Place was pretty busy and the table wait was 45min-hour. We decided to wait at the bar, and promptly scored two seats right near the opened front doors. Bar was a bit hot (temp wise), so the gentle breeze from outside was needed. The tattooed female bartender is super knowledgeable on both the drink and food menus. If you have no idea what craft beer you like, just tell her what you normally drink and she will find an even better version of it! And she lets you sample it before getting a full glass! I had the sangria, which was properly spiked with liquor and fruity enough to mask it. Sneaky... Got an order of tots ($4). Can't really mess up tots. Perfectly crispy, served in a big bowl and eaten with your choice of sauce. (Sriracha with ketchup for me, obvi.) Got our dinner, pork chop for me and steak for the bf. Sorely disappointed. What the menu said: malaysian rubbed pork chop (g) $18 malaysian spiced, pan roasted pork chop, coconut jasmine rice, grilled scallion and mango salsa What it actually was: overcooked dry pork chop with a muddled flavor, overcooked mushy rice, two limp scallions and cut up mangos without much flavor/spice. Some acidity and a crunchy/contrasting texture was desperately needed. Menu: grilled hanger steak* (g) $19 8 oz marinated steak, goat cheese-scallion mashed, wilted spinach with balsamic onion Reality: we ordered it medium. Came out raaaare and unevenly cooked (one side was cooked longer than the other.) We don't mind rare, but I'm sure other ppl would be very upset if they don't get the proper temperature. Spinach was a bit oily and I couldn't taste any balsamic. The mash was a hot gummy mess. It was oddly kinda sweet with pretty big pcs of scallion that overtook the flavor. I wouldn't know it had goat cheese in it if I hadn't seen the description. Throughout our dinner, the bar got more and more crowded and ridiculously loud. The issue lies in the fact that our waitress was not upfront with what was missing, until our party started ordering and one by one was told they did not have the menu item. One of our fav places in the neighborhood. We love this place. They change their draft beer menu pretty often, it is fun to try new beer every single time we go here. They have so many different beer!! Beer flight is a good way to try different ones. 1. Starters: pretzel is amazing! It comes out soft and hot, great with beer cheese and mustard. Wings are so good as well. 2. Salad: fried chicken salad is my fav. Their fried chicken is very delicious. 3. Main: interestingly their tacos are better than many Mexican restaurants. Fried chicken sammy is always delicious. Their burger is a must-try. With tater totes, it is incredible. KFCGH: very nice fried chicken with mash potato and mac & cheese but it is not the most healthy dish obviously. We really enjoyed yellow curry too. Very flavorful (but very spicy). There was a ton of food on the plate but it just didn't work for me. The pulled​ pork was dry and the biscuit was hard. I liked their homefries​ and tater tots - you can't really mess that up though. And finally - the mimosa flights look great on Instagram​ but the just flavors were just okay. Our waitress visited the table like twice. My boyfriend and I have come here for food on a handful of occasions. It's a great spot for when we'd like to have a more intimate dining experience. The space is cozy and the food is always good. The mac and cheese is incredible. It's seriously my favorite comfort food. My boyfriend and I especially enjoy coming for brunch on the weekends. The Breakfast Pizza- "South End Sunrise" is to die for. They also have a fantastic and unique drink menu. I tried the Ace Space Blood Orange Cider and fell in love. I haven't been able to order it anywhere else! I definitely recommend making a reservation though, I know the wait can sometimes be killer. Came here after the Sam Adams Brewery tour - of course craving burgers and more beer! The place is very quaint on the outside and definitely has an upscale pub feeling. Cute decor such as a beer "chandelier" and 4pack beer cardboard holder as the mustard/ketchup/hot sauces holder. Lots of beers on tap (and bottled). In fact, the beer menu is larger than the regular menu! My friend and I each chose a beer. I got the Ginger Beer and it was delicious and easy going down. We both split the Turkey and Tavern Burgers. Salads and Tater Tots as sides. I loved the Turkey Burger with a green chile sauce and pineapple on a pretzel bun. The regular burger was just ok. Tater tots were very good as was the salad... but why don't you have fries?! Overall average place - would come back, but in no rush. read more

Awesome corner bar/restaurant. They have one of the best patios around, surrounded by shade from the surrounding buildings. So pleasant. Can't sit out there without food, though. On the inside they have a long rectangular bar with plenty of seats, brick walls, and wood floors. It's clean and modern and makes for a great place to relax with a drink and a date. Don't miss the sweet light over the bar with the plethora of protruding tap handles. Nice touch. What we really came for was a seat at the bar while enjoying some of their world famous sangria. It was a good stuff, says my date, and I was impressed with the solid beer options. I had a coffee stout I had never heard of that whet my whistle in the best way possible.
