I am not being particularly critical with this review, I just feel that the restaurant was over hyped. Was it good? Absolutely. Was it the best? No. And I really wanted to say it was. This is a destination trip- if you weren't aware of them, I doubt that you would accidentally find them on your own. We came from Bath, and while the ride was good, it was a long ride. The kitchens are on a working dock in Georgetown, where the lobsters are brought in and cooked. Fresh? Absolutely. I ordered a lobster roll which was what has been noted in previous reviews, chock full of lobster and a piece of lettuce. I know there must have been mayo and spices but I didn't taste them and the mouthfeel suggested otherwise. The burger my hubs got was okay but nothing to write home about and the famous onion rings were not exceptional. The ordering system is confusing, mostly because they don't have signs saying "get lobster here" or "order everything but boiled dinner here". Great lobster rolls (tails & claws in roll at mkt price today $18) overlooking the water at this byob shack... we are on a lobster roll and beer trail jaunt thru our 5 days in Maine. This roll is very good but not as large as others we've experienced that's why not 5*. However this place is unique since it is a working lobster catch place. After reading reviews we made a special point to stop here for lobster on our way to Canada. We each (two of us) ordered a lobster dinner, a real rarity (not to mention expensive) for us Midwesterners who had eaten at Waterman's, a truly enjoyable and much less expensive place, now out of business for lobsters. One of our lobsters was "OK", and one was so tough it was nearly un-crackable. Neither was worth the trip! The sides were also less than impressive. If you've never had lobster before then this place is ok. If you're from New England this place is an overrated rip off. The lobster prices are high the fried food is mediocre and the selection lame (we did try it the weekend after Labor Day). I can think of a dozen better similar places on both the Maine & New Hampshire coast. One thing I can't understand is why lobster costs more in the heart of Maine lobster country than it does further down the coast in NH. If you want a better lobster roll for less money drive back up the road to the Georgetown Country store. I gave this place 2 stars because it has a great spot with a terrific view. read more

Beautiful views and excellent food! We ate here twice while staying in Georgetown. The setting really is picture perfect and staff friendly. I got steamed lobster both times and my husband lobster rolls and chowder. Onions rings were delicious! Our small kids are seafood shy so we were thankful for a chicken option for them. You can BYOB which is a bonus. Seating is all outdoors on picnic tables so bring a sweater on cooler nights. It was very crowded the second time we went but by the time our food was ready (15-20 min) a table had opened up for us. We were also able to take our pup with us. Our kids enjoyed being able to run around while us adults enjoyed our yummy seafood. read more

This place is my third Maine lobster roll experience. While not the best, it's definitely good, and the scenery can't be beat. The roll starts out with your standard buttered split hot dog bun, jammed with cool, slightly mayo-y lobster. There's a little piece of prerequisite leaf lettuce at the bottom, but this is all about the lobster. I think the reason it's not at the top is because I like a really "crunchy" butter toasted bun. Price at the time was $13.50. We also tried the onion rings. It's a huge portion, coated with crispy corn-crust with salt & pepper. Being a Pittsburgh guy, I was annoyed with the "fancy catsup" offering, versus the gold-standard Heinz. The view....best I've seen from a lobster shack so far. We only hung out for 45 minutes or so, as the wind coming off the water was pretty frigid. Lastly, if you're not in a rush, stop by Reid state park on the way back. Be advised that it's $4.50-$6.50 to get in (depending if you're from Maine or not..or if she likes you and gives you the "local" price...) but it's a nice beach and has facilities. read more

Great little pier seafood eatery there are options for non seafood lovers but it's mainly for seafood. Nice view of the harbor and some islands. I had the salmon fish and chips and it was delicious very fresh. The wait actually was not too long but it can be very packed. read more

This is a great place to stop by in the summer time. Nothing like sitting on a dock eating seafood. They have one area for ordering lobsters and another for other seafood delights such as fried scallops, fish and chips, and crab cakes. Coming here with a group is a good idea because then you get to sample lots of different things. The last trip here I had lobster, a crab cake sandwich, steamers, fried oysters, and cole slaw. Everything was good. The steamers were especially delicious. There was a little hiccup in the timing of the food - I think they forgot about our lobster order, but everything worked out. The lobster we ordered was over 2 lbs and it took about 20 mins for it to finish steaming but it was worth the wait! Good pricing and probably some of the sweetest lobster meat I've ever had. Sit on the wooden bench and enjoy digging into some of the best Maine lobster you can get. It was quite a hike to get here though so if you're not into the ocean view while chowing down... then there's something seriously wrong with you (jk) It's worth the visit guys and they accept credit card! There was little or no mayo (which is a good thing for me) and there was a generous helping of lobster meat. Also, it was less than the going rate for a roll. It was only 16.95! Fact- lobster is just not good south of Boston. And not as good as when it is caught fresh off the side of the pier. This is one of those places, you see the lobster boats come to the side of the restaurant and deliver. I've been coming here every summer for 28 years now and the lobster is cooked to perfection. Once even treated myself to a 3lber. Life was good. The fish sandwiches are also good. It has gotten expensive over the years, sadly. Getting there is half the fun. Scenic country Maine roads that lead to the coast. From Bath head south on 127 and when you get to the end of the road you're at 5 Islands. This was my first lobster roll, and it was fantastic. The setting is perfect. A lobster shack right on the water with some picnic tables and BYO. My gf and I drove from Portland while visiting the area in October and it's well worth the trip -- a perfect Maine experience. The lobster roll was delicious. If I'm ever back in the area I will definitely make a pit stop, and seek out more gems that dot the coast. Happy eats! read more

The seating area is right by the scenic islands and you can watch the boats catching lobster as you eat! Tried the fried fish and it was also flavorful and crisp! No complaints except that they say you cant substitute fries for onion rings which when your paying so much they should be accomidating there customers. Spent 62$ for clam basket lobster roll basket and jenny special haddock sandwich i left hungry very HUNGRY!!!!!!! There were huge lines so dont think its because they are so great the reason they get so much business is that they are the only place to get food in the local area besides for country store and right when you leave reid state park thats the only sign you see. Overall fresh food thats overpriced( almost double the price from other places) tiny child like portions ( you will be amazed at how small food is when you get there, if they ever had competition they would go out of business) very bad dead fish smell all around deck. Nice view but the whole area is nice. If you are hungry dont come here it will cost to much to get full and they have no secret recipe very dissapointed. I have now made it up to Five Island Lobster Co. for the last 3 years in a row and first went about 5-6 years ago and I have yet to have anything less than the most amazing experience enjoying the beautiful seaside and amazing fresh Lobsters they have. Prices are not the cheapest compared to what you may see on sale at a supermarket or possibly other seafood markets but I would never fault them on that considering how fresh and delicious they are (by far best lobsters I've ever had each time) and worth every penny. The ice cream shop provides the perfect dessert and there are options beyond simply Lobster however let's be honest, if you are coming here it is because you want the best Lobsters on the planet! It is BYOB so pack a cooler with your favorite beverages and feel free to bring some sides if you want - they are totally OK with it all and what helps to make this one of the best places to eat in the world as far as I'm concerned. The location surrounded by water is so scenic and beautiful that you will not want to leave. The best part is after you've stuffed yourself full at Five Island Lobster Co. you have Reid State Park just a hop and a skip down the road to walk off your meal while taking in more of the beautiful Maine scenery. Totally dog and kids friendly, we bring our pup and just tie his leash to the leg of the picnic table so he can lay outside and watch the seagulls/people while we eat. Make the trip! BUT, that being said, Ive been there three times, driving from South Portland each time, and the last two times I tried to eat there, they were closed. This was not off season. It was also mid-week. All of our food was great and it was a nice night. Only thing to be careful of is: tour boats coming in (suddenly 40+ people show up) and a *LOT* of kids and their preppy parents. We had never experienced a place like this so it was a little intimidating, but the staff answered our questions like they heard it all before. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but earnest. This is an amazing place to get super fresh lobster in a low-key casual atmosphere. I went to Five Islands Lobster Company a few weeks ago with a few friends on a day trip from Boston. They let us hold and take pictures with our lobsters before they cooked them and we ate them. And the price was so right - $25 for a lobster almost 2 lbs., corn on the cob, and baked potatoes. We brought our own beer and sat on the picnic tables outside with a beautiful view of the harbor while we ate our scrumptious lobsters. read more

Absolutely loved this place! Even the drive there was great. Very rustic little place with only a handful of picnic tables and a beautiful view of the water. They were out of large lobsters when we went, but what we got was sweet juicy & delicious. It was also cheaper than all the other lobster pounds. My husband said his lobster roll was one of the best he had ever eaten...believe me he's had a lot! Make sure you stop and get some Annabelle's All Natural ice cream after you eat. Five Islands Lobster Co has changed management and it's showing. Portion sizes are down, and prices are up. The Jenny Special is still excellent, and the fish as fresh as it gets. There's no longer any tomato (I swore there used to be), and the fries are clearly frozen and lacking. You can cut portions, but not raise prices too. Waits are incredibly long even though it's much less busy than in the best years. Nice people, but taking advantage of the tourists. My guess is because there is no competition in the Gotts Cove this year. read more

Imagine our surprise when, after driving 30 minutes, we pulled up at 5:00 and saw a closed sign. I called and their greeting said they were closed due to rain and lack of staff. Unacceptable.
