I decided to stop by Groucho's for lunch before work recently. My immediate opinion upon arrival was the inside appearance was outdated, dirty and it needed a refresh. The service counter setup was confusing, as there are 2 registers but each facing a different direction. The staff immediately said hi, but never said which register to take my order as he was on the phone. Another staff member then arrived and took my order at the other register. I ordered the apollo dipper, and said I'd eat in. The seating options are a little sparse for one. There were a few tables for 4 or more, but not enough 2 tops. There is a long counter to sit, but I did not find it appealing and sat at the two top. The chairs look dirty, as the back supports had a dirty appearance from all the hands. My chair was also wobbly. Then I noticed the napkin dispenser on the table was dirty with dust. All this validated my initial opinion when entering. My order arrived, but in a to go bag. No problem, I stayed and ate it. Overall the sandwich was ok, with a soft warm bun. The melted cheese covered the turkey and ham below. I can't say the sandwich was very flavorful, so the Formula 45 sauce added flavor. Before leaving, I used the restroom and was not surprised by how dirty it was. Lots of dust on the top of toilet tank and the handicap bars. Then residual dried water spots under the paper dispenser and wall where the trash can was sitting. No effort here. I really don't like giving a review like this, but it was disappointing. I have visited Groucho's in the Columbia area and they were much better. While food taste and value usually come first, the appearance (cleanliness) also contributes to the experience. I've read other reviews that share similar experiences, so this is not a solitary moment. Hopefully feedback helps, maybe owners/managers will see the need to react to concerns. This is based on an UberEats order--I ordered the smaller portion of the Apollo sandwich, which ended up being the perfect portion size for me. It was pretty good taste-wise. And I really liked the Formula 45 sauce. I ordered a chicken salad as well (no tomatoes or fiesta power blend). The chicken tasted a little funny so I didn't finish the salad. But again, the sauce I had with it (Formula 95) was good. I'd be open to ordering again or stopping by their shop in the future, though! read more

New to the area, saw the (mostly good) reviews and decided to give this place a shot. The interior is quite bland and actually quite depressing. Everyone (including the employees) all seemed so sad. While I'm never a huge fan of TVs in restaurants, Groucho's was in desperate need of background noise if for no other reason than to muffle the sound of others' conversations. Awkward service, had to keep going up to the counter to get drink refills. Maybe if you're grabbing the food to-go it's a bit more impressive, but the sandwiches (for the price) were average, pickle spears were flaccid and chips were stale. read more

Racist establishment. I was told to wait outside which was weird and she would bring it out. I waited almost 20 minutes. She never brought it out. Lied and said she didn't see me. On top of that they provided me with one dressing for "My Wife's Salad" and wanted to charge me extra for another dressing when the salad already comes with TWO. The back and forth was very unnecessary and the male associate was extremely condescending and rude being it was our first ever interaction. I've been eating Groucho's since forever and for the owner to further gaslight me in the Google review. I lost my appetite. Threw that mess away and will be disputing the charges. Anytime I have eaten here, the food has been fast and amazingly tasty. It's probably the best deli shop I have tried thus far. It's not much for the inside, but what it lacks in the atmosphere it makes up in friendly staff and tasty food! So I absolutely recommend it to others. Had to go into work yesterday to do some computer stuff, and promised to feed hubby if he came as moral support. I looked up restaurants near work and when I told him there was a Groucho's minutes away he got really excited, waxing nostalgic for his college days in Columbia, where Groucho's was a staple of his diet. Last time I saw this place, it was a crummy Subway. It's much better now. The hostess greeted us upon entry and asked if we would be dining in or to-go, and we said both! I got the Apollo Dipper all ham with both sauces and hubby got the Big Dipper with 45 sauce. Both sauces are fantastic, excellent with the house-branded chips, and really make the sandwich special. The ham was was so sweet and tender, the bread was soft but had a nice crust. Everything was in the right ratio, it's an excellent hoagie. Hubby says I'll be bringing more home since it's on my way :) The chips are great. More body than Lay's and lighter and crisper than kettle chips. They showcase the flavorful dips and I can't stop eating! The to-go subs were delicious even hours later. The Baby was loaded with tasty meats and tangy slaw. Hubby's Brown Moose was good but he's all about the Dippers. He needs an STP right now, he says! Guess I'll be back soon! read more

My husband and I chose Groucho's because we were looking for a light lunch and they had a good selection of salads. We were both very glad we made this choice. Now, we wish there was one closer to our area in West Ashley. We were greeted and seated immediately with very good service to follow. I ordered the chicken power salad and my husband ordered the My wife's Salad bowl. The ingredients were so fresh and the dressings were made in house and were perfect. SHOULD HAVE GONE TO PUBLIX: Sadly, zero stars is not an option. How can you screw up a turkey sub? My wife and I went into Groucho's to get a sub to share. I ordered a turkey and swiss sub with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and mayo. The teenage clerk confirmed that they had swiss but no pickles. In what deli can you not get pickles on a sub? What I got was HALF a salami and American cheese sub with a tiny portion of turkey on top. The amount of turkey was less than the amount of the salami I did not order and also less than the amount of the wrong kind of cheese. Toppings were lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and mayo. For this, I paid $11.41 and had a quarter of a sub for dinner. Unbelievable level of fail, and never again. Next time, Publix right next door. read more

I placed a curbside order 45 mins before I arrived. I went to the curbside drive through and sat there for 10 mins before calling the number that is taped to the window. When calling the phone gets hung up every time. I went inside and it was COMPLETELY EMPTY. I don't know why there was no one attending the curbside service but there wasn't. When I went to get my order from inside I was greeted and asked if I was there for curbside I said yes but no one was there. They gave me every excuse and no apology. I have never dealt with this type of service at other locations but I will not be coming back to this one. read more

Ok are you kidding me?? Ordered a Corned Beef sandwich from their "DELI Sandwiches" section. Dry pale barely abundant meat on dry far from Jewish rye. If I was not hungry I would of driven back and demanded my 9 bucks back. It is not that hard to make a decent sandwich for 9 bucks, but somehow this place has done it. Put it this way they spend more on their menu printing than their Corned Beef ingredients. The guys working there were nice and the "Sandwich" was prepared quickly. Went during lunch hour and was pretty busy on a Friday. They seem to still be working thru the kinks but I'm sure they'll work out soon. I ordered over the phone and was told it would be done in 15-20 minutes. I showed up 30 minutes later but the order wasn't ready yet. Place was pretty busy and the drive thru line was full. Was pulling into Chik-Fil-A and saw this deli. Figured I'd give it a shot. I was hoping for a Mozzo's or even East Bay experience. Huge, huge letdown. Sandwich was 90% bread (not an exaggeration). Tried the White Moose sandwich. The amount of turkey was about the size of a half dollar with a small piece of melted cheese on top. The special Groucho's chips are rebranded Lay's.
