It was well-attended by people all across the age range, and I felt a bit silly having taken a table not having quite grasped the seating situation. There were many choices, and I was happy for the option for half portions, allowing me to get their seasonal salad as well as a sandwich based on tofu prepared in olive oil. It's a very Southern way of doing tofu, but it worked, and getting it on a baguette was a good decision. My salad had a hearty mix of chickpeas and almonds and a sharp dressing. We ate lunch at Five Loaves Cafe after Christmas Eve service earlier today. The atmosphere of this place is so fun, festive, and bright. Made me think of happy thought :) The food choices from the kids meal were good and the kids were happy. We ordered the kids meal tortellini cheese pasta with fruits, bacon and waffle, and cheese quesadilla that also came with fruits. For the adult meals, we ordered biscuit (the bottom of the biscuits were a bit burned which my husband not happy with it but he didn't even complaint and just ate the top part that didn't burnt ) sausage gravy with side of scrambled eggs and I forgot to take the picture! Mine was the tomato Taragon crab soup with half portion of cob salad that was so good! We also ordered the shrimp and grits and it was pretty yummy. I had the CHICKEN PAILLARD GF and would absolutely recommend and return for this but my husband had the flounder piccata with two teeny sliced meat on top of mashed potatoes. I have been coming to Five Loaves for years, but our last visit was lackluster. The beautiful salads this restaurant is known for were not on the menu and I didn't recognize most of the other items. Our server was great, but the food was off. I had spiced salmon and the salmon was good, but the pairing with this dish did not match or complement the main. It was basically rice smothered in mushroom soup with a few real mushrooms added. This side was disgusting and I like mushrooms. There was no attempt at presentation and it felt like there was zero passion in the cooking. My husband ordered short ribs and he said it was the worst he's ever had (very bland). This brings me to a point of reflection and a trend I've noticed in a few Charleston-area restaurants: ill-thought changes in menu and lower quality of food are destroying the unique experience and good memories at these establishments. We ordered 3 items 3 people - bbq pork tenderloin (mini meat and no taste), chicken marsala which was big but the spinach watered down the whole dish and the mussels which I was told was huge- it was not. The service was anemic - came over with our food not asking if we want anything ( we had tried to find her to ask for another round but when the food came just gave up though she didnt ask anyway) and then one check in when we were eating just asking if all was OK. So, I came here specifically because it was a place that was highly recommended for vegan options. When I arrived, there were only two option on the menu, no appetizers and no desserts. A soup that was $18 and a pesto tofu dish that $17. I opted for the tofu. While it was good, it was very flavorless and had a lot of oil and some very mushy rice with breaded tofu and some "pesto" on top. Our server was very clueless as to what was on the menu and had no idea what vegan meant. For the kiddos, it was literally a fruit bowl for dinner that was $3. Overall, I'm glad we opted to go somewhere else for dinner for valentines tomorrow because I would have been super disappointed. Chips were an additional $1.50. It was way overpriced. My blueberry lemon drop cocktail was also disappointing as it lacked the blueberry flavor I was hoping for. Love it here! I came here with my family for brunch a few weeks ago and we loved it. They have an outside area that is covered and heated so it was super comfortable even with it being a little chilly out. It's super cute inside you can tell the decor was really thought out which I love. I'm vegetarian and my in laws are vegan and there were a TON of options for all of us. I got the vanilla cold brew and it was delish. Normally cold brew doesn't have enough flavor for me but this one did. I got the broccoli cheddar soup which was also amazing and a salad which was a great serving size, I even had some to take home. Our server was also super attentive and very sweet. Went in to 5 loaves today around 2 pm and sat outside. It wasn't very busy. No one approached us or looked our direction for over 20 minutes watching everyone else being served but us until we went inside and reminded them we were out there. Waitress tried to take out order while standing in side the restaurant insisting she didn't know who our server was and that she would find out. We made her come back to table so we could order like normal customers. She came back took all the orders at once and only came to check on us only when dropping something off. Food was alright, charged for an extra dressing and bread was as soggy as your first ex wife. For the inconvenience she offered us a free cookie which she brought out still wrapped not even warmed or on a plate. Funny thing is I was paying with a gift card from a previous messed up order where we picked up and they forgot to add the extra protein on all of our salads then when they remade the order they somehow did it again. The drinks we got were gross but she didn't ask and at this point we were over it. 71 dollars for a mediocre meal and bad service with a waitress who could care less if we lived or died. Funny after already having to give this place another shot from the previous mishap. Oh, the table next us was being served, got their food and drink before us and left before us as well. They have a very wide range of fresh sandwiches, soups, and salads with delicious combinations that make it hard to choose just one. I love the fact that you can order half or whole and create your own "combo" in doing so. Their tomato and fresh mozzarella salad was my absolute favorite. Adding asparagus into their salad gives it something unique and paired with balsamic it was wonderful. Everything else we tried on the menu did not disappoint. It was all amazing and full of flavor. They also have daily soup, salad, and sandwich specials that are featured on a smaller menu. They were very busy during our visit and had many customers come in for takeout and others waiting for tables. We stumbled upon this little cafe at a point where we were starving, tired and close to our destination but couldn't yet check in. They were busy so usually a good sign. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and potato broccoli cheddar soup. They had a great selection of cocktails also. Everything was delicious! The ambience was adorable. Service could have been a little better. We had children with us and one was a bit whiny so I'm not sure if that was the issue. We seemed to be the only children in the restaurant. Here's a cool place in Mount Pleasant if you're looking for something a little bit casual/homey. Stumbled across this popular cafe for a light evening salad. You get a cool/relaxing vibe when you walk in, not that intimidating feeling... know that feel? I placed an order for a gluten free/vegetation arugula salad. On the salad is goat cheese (who doesn't love goat cheese... cept the goat maybe), beets, candied walnuts, and carrots. They've got quite a few choices of dressings. My choice was the balsamic honey. It was a decent size salad, all the toppings were fresh. For me I prefer more than 2 candied walnuts but that's me. The dressing was wonderful.
