Five Loaves is so good. Fresh food, yet still hearty. I recommend the Tri Colored Cheese Tortellini, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Shrimp Gnocchi, really anything I've ever eaten. I will say that I am not a huge salad girl but stay with me here. If you want to get wild (but not really) then order the FLC Caesar salad BUT sub the balsamic garlic dressing. It's fantastic!! This place can be a little pricey but you're looking at a $15-$30 meal depending on your choice and in Mt P it is pretty aligned with similar restaurants. If you are looking for a fresh lunch or even dinner, this is worth a visit!!! read more

I really enjoy their eggplant fritter salad (on their regular menu) with avocado ranch and their corn and jalapeño fritter salad when they have it on their specials for the day. Their sweet tea is also on point! It's not too sweet like McDonald's sweet tea. Plus, any place that warms their bread gets extra points with me! I didn't like their potato/broccoli soup at all because I felt it was extremely bland, without much broccoli or cheese flavor. There wasn't even a creamy flavor like in chowders; it was just a bland, thicker potato soup. I also felt they overcharged for adding proteins to the salad ($5 for 5 pieces of precooked/overcooked shrimp?!). The chicken and waffle dish was also lackluster because the waffle was soggy. The lemon/blueberry cake was good, but not phenomenal. I think they wet the cake too much with simple syrup to prevent the cake from drying out too much when they keep the cake over several days (maybe even a week in the fridge?). It results in a cake that has a slightly weird texture (like wet pound cake) that crumbles when you try to take a piece with your fork. The flavors were well balanced... I just wish the cake had a cake texture. Overall, I would recommend this place for their salads. I really wanted to love Five Loaves Cafe. The vibe, service and the fact that there's a dog friendly patio should have been enough. However, that is not how all establishments get five stars. We settled on a light lunch and boy were we disappointed. The arugula salad was not special and the bacon mustard vinaigrette was more fat/oil than mustard or vinaigrette. It was very heavy. The BLT on sourdough was not to par. The sourdough itself could be compared to a store brand white bread. The fact that it was not even lightly toasted meant that the sandwich completely fell apart with the first bite. I'm sure the Weekend brunch crew enjoy their time here because of the other cool things about this place. For me? The drinks probably make the food taste better. read more

I've been hearing a lot of good things about this place, and it most certainly did not disappoint. The place is decorated very cute, and it's a great place for Sunday brunch. I ordered the chicken club on a croissant and a side of broccoli cheddar soup. (It doesn't say explicitly on the menu, but you can do a half soup/salad/sandwich option). The sandwich was a hearty portion, and the soup was good too. It's healthy, delicious, and at a reasonable price. I just wish I had a little more broccoli in the soup (I had got one piece), but other than that, I loved every part of it! read more

Modern beach house vibe, perfect for brunch. We had the brunch enchilada and country skillet with a couple of sweet teas. Both dishes are accompanied by a chipotle cheese sauce that if I'm being honest is a bit too much on the enchiladas. It covers the bottom of the plate and then they top the enchiladas with a generous helping of sour cream. If you love dairy products this one's for you. However, in the country skillet the chipotle cheese was the perfect addition of flavor, so it definitely works in some dishes. As for the other ingredients, the tomatoes were plump & fresh & tortillas grilled to perfection. Our waitress Hillary was prompt & continually freshened our teas throughout the brunch. I am thoroughly enjoying my leftovers this minute and still just as delicious! We started with the Pea Falafel, bright, fresh and very tasty. The wine list here is pretty extensive and bottles of wine are not too pricey. I ordered the shrimp gnocchi with caramelized onions - one of the rare times that the caramelization did not get lost into a mush, these were present visually and taste-wise. Top notch dish, a real comfort meal, as one of my companions pointed out. My friends had the chicken marsala, which looked wonderful, but the chicken palliate definitely makes you want to go back and order it. Fabulous atmosphere. We came at an off time during the week. Music was perfect volume and very relaxing. Lighting was bright. We sat at a booth in the back which was comfortable. I noticed there was a counter and it had lots of purse hooks. I ordered the half arugula salad and half sandwich. The sandwich was the days special- ham, salami, and Swiss. The salad was a good portion and the greens were fresh. I loved the combination of tangy dressing, salty goat cheese and sweet candied walnuts. The sandwich bread, multigrain, was perfectly soft. I tried half of the grilled chicken sandwich, but again...I wasn't blown away. I didn't eat the entire half sandwich, and after not eating it or the soups I was still hungry. Five Loaves food never disappoints. With the exception of maybe two times in my life, I've eaten here primarily for lunch instead of dinner. My go-to's are the BLT sandwich on sourdough, the portabella goat cheese on baguette (*try this if you haven't), and the Caesar salad. No matter what, I am always ordering a cup or bowl of the potato broccoli cheddar soup. This has a location in Mt. Pleasant and in downtown Charleston. It's always a great spot to take out-of-town visitors and is a favorite for locals. You really can't go wrong taking anyone here, although if you're seriously hungry, consider going early to beat the crowd; otherwise, you will have 20-45 min. waits with little space to stand or sit - in either location. Bonus tip: Yelpers can put themselves on the waitlist ahead of time. read more

While we normally go for lunch, we stopped by Friday night and sat at the bar. We were greeted by Chelsea, and decided to enjoy a beer first. Nice to find they had a few local, regional beers on tap. The bar area was also full with happy, lively patrons engaged in conversation. We met a local chef who is opening a new restaurant on James Island, something to look forward to. Food - 5 stars! We started with steamed mussels in a creamy Thai coconut broth. Yum, such a large serving to share, served hot. It does warrant additional bread to soak up that delicious creamy coconut broth. But my entree was fantastic, the Thai coconut hot pot. A large bowl of perfectly cooked vegetables including cabbage, kale, shiitakes, broccoli, asparagus, peas, grated carrots, cilantro, & noodles. All of this swimming in a spicy Thai coconut broth, more broth this time but just as rich in flavor. As a carnivore, I added grilled chicken, but it was not needed. My delight in this dish was so high, I would recommend it to everyone, and would definitely order again. 5 Loaves is the place, serving fresh ingredients in well conceived dishes that fill you with flavor, taste and substance. This location has a friendly staff, starting at the door, and all during service. I also appreciate a restaurant when a manager is about checking on their customers while assisting with service. My neighbor brought me here telling me how good the food is, so I ordered a BLT sandwich just to be safe since it was my 1st time. Mediocre sandwich, cheap looking bread was not toasted with a few small pieces of broken cheese shoved in between, it does not come with any sides at all, not sure why the hype?! Even my neighbor who's a regular was highly disappointed. Waitress was not that friendly, maybe because they are so "popular" that that they don't have to nice? Hadn't been to this location in a long time so We ventured this way for takeout lunch today. We had the Mexican Chili and chicken salad on a croissant. Man...the croissant was big!! Pleasant surprise but not ready for it. At most places you visit, the croissants are small medium at best. This was a large croissant and really held up well with the chicken salad. The chicken salad was on the slightly sweet side and had some grapes in it. It also came topped with lettuce tomato and some red onion...which I made sure to remove since I didn't want to torture myself in a mask the rest of the day. At times you can come in there and on the menu you will find some amazing dishes like today the salmon was out of this world it was very good.
