As a fan of the Five Loaves cafe in downtown Charleston, I ran to the Mount Pleasant location when it closed. The new location has ample seating inside plus a patio tent outside . I usually go for lunch, and my to-go is the three soup sampler (they change all the time but the crab and tarragon is an all time favorite) and a half sandwich. Any sandwich combination is on point, but my favorite bread style is the baguette. The service is always great and the food comes out fast. There is a new charge small recently added for COVID expenses such as PPE for the employees and additional cleaning supplies. read more

Very cozy place for lunch or dinner. I've only ordered takeout so far but the service has been great for placing and picking up the order. We've had their soups and salads and both were very good. I think it's the best place for salads in the area. The Cobb salad is my favorite but the FCS Caesar was just as good. I will be going back on a regular basis. read more

Solid Sunday brunch at Five loaves. I had the brunch enchiladas and a cup of tarragon tomato soup. The enchiladas were a good size and were pretty good. The tarragon tomato crab soup was really good and had decent amount of crab. I would likely try something else next time but both were tasty. The service was super friendly and fast. read more

During our visit to Mount Pleasant we tried a different restaurant each day for brunch but we came to Five Loaves Cafe on our last day on our way back home. Thanks to yelp and the excellent reviews I felt that this would be a great choice for our last day in town. The restaurant is located in a small shopping center, they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Due to covid the tables were spread out for social distancing purposes, and the staff all wore mask. We were seated right away but it took about 15 minutes before someone came to our table to take out order, they were 1 minute away from us leaving. Our waitress was friendly and and service was fast once we were waited on. I had a Peach Mimosa which was tasty. I started with a cup of the Tomato Soup topped with crabmeat, it was flavorful and yummy. I also ordered the Southern Benny which was basically their version of a crab benedict, with home fries on the side. My meal was absolutely delicious, all the wonderful flavors in my dish made for a party in my mouth. The home fries were cooked and seasoned perfectly. My husband had the French toast with bacon and he also loved his meal. Hands down this was the best brunch we had while visiting Mount Pleasant. The customer service was a tad bit shaky so I took off a star, but the food was 5 stars for sure. Five Loaves Cafe is on my list the next time we are in town. read more

We stopped here to get some brunch before I had back home from my weekend visit. This is one of my friend's favorite spots and I can see why. They are practicing social distancing. Everyone working is wearing a mask and gloves at all times which is nice to see. They offer paper menus and we came during Brunch. They have specials for brunch including the option I ordered. We both ordered the French Toast special. It came with chocolate sauce and marshmallow sauce with graham cracker crust. It was very good and filling. I also ordered bacon on the side. It totaled about 15 bucks so it was definitely a great deal. I would definitely return for the $5 mimosas though if I'm in the area again! read more

Stopped her for a mid-day bite and was definitely not disappointed. I just got the soup sampler and a grilled cheese (from the kids menu). I love the option of the soup smaller because there were so many wonderful options to choose from. I picked the tomato tarragon with crabmeat, Mexican chicken chili with avocado and cilantro and the chipotle black bean with red pepper. Amazing!! If I had to rank them it would be the tomato, Mexican chili then the black bean. The Mexican chili isn't thick like a chili, it's more brothy/soup like but those flavors are fantastic. It tasted like a taco in soup form. The avocado and cilantro are a nice touch that nicely compliments the spice of the soup. The tomato tarragon is just so tasty!! I love the tanginess of the soup and take a bite with the crab meat...game changer. I really wanted a grilled cheese to go with my soups but they only offered it on the kids menu. It's definitely a sandwich for kids...not good. I wish I hadn't ordered it because then I would have gotten the bread that came with the soup. That bread was so much better, but a bit on the salty side. After I was done eating my soups I did wish I had gotten the larger bowl because they are so very good! read more

We went for a weekday lunch around 11:30 and I don't know why this place wasn't packed! If I worked around here I'd grab this salad at least once a week. I love when restaurants do half portions. Great spot for a quality lunch or dinner! Can't decide which I like best as both menus are amazing! There is plenty of room for seating, but seats fill up fast during peak meal times! Went for lunch with a couple of friends on a Sunday and waited for ~45 minutes. Their lunch menu consists of a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches. What I liked about their menu is that you could order half orders of all of those things. I had a half order of the hot ham & Brie sandwich (bc I love Brie) and a half order of the FLC Caesar. One of my friends ordered a half chicken salad sandwich + a half hot ham & Brie and the other friend ordered a half BLT sandwich + a half FLC Caesar. Everything was AMAZING but for me personally the spotlight was on their FLC Caesar. The salad was an excellent balance between salad and dressing. But my favorite part was the tortellini that came with it. Because who doesn't love some cheese and pasta with their salad?! Not pictured, but I've also had dinner here! And it is also a must try! I recommend the Harissa Salmon and the Thai Coconut Hot Pot. read more

my wife and I were seated right away for lunch. A waiter brought us water and said he was training another employee as well. he disappeared for a long period of time so we flagged down another waitress who said she could take our order and did. my wife got half a sandwich and salad and I got a full Cobb salad. We did have the same salad dressing. The water was served in a bottle. when the waiter returned, he said he got slammed by orders on the patio and did apologize. My wife and I enjoyed our meals. Great outdoor seating area. We called ahead and they said about a 10-15 minute wait and put our name down, but when we arrived about 15 minutes later we had to wait another 15-20 minutes there. The food was good, definitely took longer than I expected to come out, but I give them the benefit of the doubt assuming they're short staffed. The food was great. Waffles we're a little too crispy, but the syrup softened them enough to eat. Eggs Benedict was fantastic, and the drinks were great as well. We found this place when we saw the gifts cards at Costco. We bought the gift card which basically gets you $100 worth for like $75 ish. It was our last day in Charleston area so we came for lunch and later for dinner. Lunch we ordered the half sandwich and half salad options. The portions were good and we left satisfied. For dinner, we ordered the Harissa Salmon and it was AMAZING. You can really taste the coconut flavor in the rice. The salmon was perfectly seared. And if you don't like beets (which I don't ) don't let the that steer you from getting this dish. The beets are in a type of chutney that you can taste the slight ginger and it was good combination as a whole. Great service. Beautiful restaurant and great ambiance. read more

Good! Fried Green Tomatoes were sliced thick enough to hold a good cornmeal batter and topper with pickled red onions. They were amazing. Had the Goat Cheese Gnocchi. Could have used more pungency from the Goat Cheese and the Balsalmic could have been reduced more, thereby less would have been needed. Also, had the Grilled Swordfish with Roasted Red Potatoes and red Bell Pepper, along with sauteed Asparagus. Good but plainly seasoned fish. Could have done without the cream sauce, as it had little to no flavor and was too much. Still a good dish. Took home the Pomegranate Cheesecake. It is a New York style, dense Cheesecake with a watery (maybe condensation from being refrigerated) Graham Cracker crust that was more annoying than needed. MORE Pomegranates could have been incorporated through the top layer but overall, it was good. Other party members enjoyed the Smoked Salmon salad atopped with grilled corn. The Avocado Ranch dressing was perfect for the salad. The White Balsalmic did not match the Salads produce but it WAS good! It was hearty salad! 3.5 stars would have been more accurate, but unfortunately that's not an option. Five Loaves has fast service like you wouldn't believe. We made it there this morning and were able to be seated immediately. There were no open tables, a line forming, and food constantly coming out the kitchen. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles. I settled on the waffle, home fries, and side of bacon. My 3 star rating came into play here. Our food came out quickly, but unfortunately cold. My husband's waffle was not just cold, but also burnt. We were ready to get on the road back to NC, so we didn't bother sending anything back to the kitchen. But the cold food was a big disappointment. The flavors were there; our meals definitely had the potential to be great. Even cold, the home fries were delicious! If we make it back here, we'll make sure to be more particular about the temperature of our food- or better yet, it won't even be an issue! read more

Just had a fantastic lunch (first time diner) at Five Loaves today. It's located in a little strip mall but has a really chill vibe when you get inside. We were told we'd have to wait 30 minutes but got in after about 15 - we'll done with the under promise and over deliver!!! They use Table Up which notifies you how many tables are ahead of you - huge bonus!! We ordered the salmon salad and substituted the smoked salmon for a salmon fillet which was cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. We also had tomato soup with tarragon and crab - lots of crab meat and the tarragon flavor, though subtle, really came through. Lastly, we had the 1/2 Turkey Pastrami Rueben sandwich on a terrific rye bread. Great sauerkraut and super fresh bread. Turkey had a nice bite to it. Our server was terrific and we'll definitely add this to our rotation. Next time maybe we'll sit at the bar which we didn't even know they had!! read more

This place beat expectations as I was expecting "Cafe" food, okay, Technically it is Cafe Food but come people, there are not many places where you go and they give you this type of bread selection at a "CAFE": Served on your choice of multigrain, sourdough,rye, baguette, spinach tortilla, croissant or Gluten Free Bread and then to top it off with a great server (seen In Picture) The Remarkable Liz, whose smile came through the mask, if you look real close you can see and feel that smile! ;-) I had the Potato and broccoli soup w/half Ultimate BLT(smoked bacon, sharp cheddar, sweet basil mayonnaise, artisan greens, tomatoes, onions), what a great BLT. The wife had Potato and broccoli soup with pineapple salad special #2 and loved it. It is Busy (for good reason) so if you go at lunch, go early and don't whine because you could not get right in, relax and be prepared to have a great lunch, with awesome service and if you can get Liz or have to wait for her, do it. It is a cute little place, with plenty of indoor and semi-outdoor seating. The only thing that bothered the wife was that the bar was open, and no spacing between guests, but when it came to eat, she completely forgot about it, and enjoyed her meal. I Worked at Mt P. PD Many years ago and the stories I could tell you about that plaza, would crack you up. Yum! Yum! Yum! We were in town visiting Patriot's Point and Charleston and we liked this place so much, we ate here a second night. The spiced salmon is WONDERFUL. All of us loved it. The first night my mom had the marsala chicken and loved it. The second night she had a salad with feta, strawberries and I'm not sure what else and she loved it. My dad had the cheddar and broccoli soup and thought it was good (it did lack a bit of flavor so maybe a four-star for that dish.) I had the sirloin steak. It was cooked perfectly but it was a bit chewy. Sirloin is pretty lean so it's hard to get it tender. My sister and dad had the bloody mary and they said it was the best they ever had. Service was wonderful. The first night we were served by Kate. She was very attentive and friendly. The second night was a really nice gal who was really great about making sure we got what we wanted (we were extra needy that evening for some reason. LOL) The ambiance is nice. I highly recommend stopping by and grabbing yourself some salmon. read more

Eclectic menu, low key vibes, and nice preparation and flavors make for a winning combination. We went on a Friday night and found it pretty busy, so opted for a table in the enclosed patio for immediate seating. The menu is all over the place--a warning sign in most establishments. However, it worked here, as there was something for everyone--Italian to Thai, straightforward seafood to Southern comfort staples were represented in one form or another on the menu. We went with a starter of carrot-ginger soup, which packed some seriously good Thai flavors, but had an odd baby food texture that involved a lot of carrot bits. My wife went with a seafood pasta special that featured shrimp and sun-dried tomato with house made linguine in a creamy sauce. She loved it. I had the eggplant parm, which was only decent because it could have had a little more breading and been a little more tender. My son had a flounder piccata, which was served with mashed potatoes and was solid. Our entrees came out slowly (the server apologized for a large takeout order holding everything up). For desert, we opted for the carrot cake, but did not realize it would be served deconstructed--a mason jar full of cake and orange and green icing. A bit of a mess, but tasty. So many vegan and vegetarian options! The cocktails are also amazing! I had the garden to glass and if you are a fan of grapefruit, give it a try! The staff is so welcoming and you always leave this establishment feeling great, from the fresh and awesome food to the welcoming staff! This place was a gem of a place. The menu was colorful and eclectic but accurately described the entries we enjoyed. My wife enjoyed an arugula beet salad with candied walnuts and carrots. It was accompanied by a tomato and tarragon crab soup. I enjoyed a chicken salad mixed greens sandwich with cranberries, grape tomato, avocado and arugula on a multigrain bread. It was accompanied by a chicken and tortilla soup that had black beans and corn. Definitely a winner. The ambiance was quaint and playful. Staff was both courteous and efficient. Our lunch arrived at the speed of light. One word to describe the meal....scrumptious. Highly recommended but be aware it does get pretty packed during lunchtime and parking is limited.
