This is a wonderful place for lunch. We were visiting from out of town and ordered sandwiches to go. Both the regular and gluten free sandwiches were delicious. We had a Reuben, turkey sandwich, and BLT. The pickle chips tasted homemade and were excellent. When we called in the order, someone answered promptly and courteously. They told us it would be 15 minutes and our order was ready when we arrived even though the place was bustling and busy. Checkout was quick and easy. We will definitely come back the next time we visit Mount Pleasant. This was the best restaurant we visited during our stay. read more

First let me recommend using the Nowait app to dibs a table if you are trying to grab a coveted lunch time table. If not, no worries the hostess will text you when your table is ready and things move pretty quickly. Variety is the name of the game for lunch here with the opportunity to sample 3 soups, order a cup or a bowl. I usually can't decide what I want so I like to order 1/2 a sandwich and 1/2 order of the various salads with their amazing homemade salad dressings. My personal fave is the chilled smoked salmon with roast corn, capers, and grilled green onions. Service is always spot on with the server happily refilling my recommended herbal iced tea! I've been wanting to eat here for a while, and I finally stopped in for lunch. I tried two halves of two different sandwiches: The Roasted Turkey and the Chicken Salad. The Roasted Turkey was definitely my favorite and the flavors on this sandwich were incredible! The Chicken Salad was tasty and obviously made from wholesome ingredients as well, only it didn't stay together as well as the Roasted Turkey. A hidden gem nestled between an art gallery and maternity store this local place is delicious! You wont find soups or sandwiches like this anywhere else in the city. I branched out of my comfort zone and went vegetarian. I had the artichoke, sun dried tomato, & chick pea soup with half of the portobello sandwich on whole grain. I was a little scared at first being that the soup had the appearance of baby food but was anything but! Both were delicious! Top it all off with great service and I have a new favorite place in South Carolina. A few tips...It's small and gets crowded. DATE OF VISIT: I visited Five Loaves Cafe on the evening of July 15th, 2014 with one dinner guest. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: The location is nothing special but once you enter the Cafe you feel like you are in an entirely different place. It is super inviting and comfortable in side with a fresh and exciting environment. MENU APPEAL & OPTIONS: The menu choices and options were wonderful. One of the best feathers is the option to do a soup sampler and half salad and half sandwich. There are options for every taste and every mood and yet the menu was not overpowering or overwhelming to take in. FOOD PRESENTATION & QUALITY: Between the two of us we had the Chicken Caesar Salad, Chicken Cobb Salad, Tuna Sandwich, Chicken Salad Sandwich, Southwest Chili, Red Pepper Soup and Cheddar and Broccoli Soup. Everything looked and tasted AMAZING! The food was fresh and perfectly prepared and of the highest quality. SERVICE: From the first greeting by the host to the good bye at the end of the night the service was outstanding. The servers were all happy and smiling and the food runner was on top of things and very polite. OVERALL: I do not give out 5 stars lightly but Five Loaves Cafe definitely earned a 5 star review in my book! My wife and I ate here while on vacation in isle of palms on a Wednesday night. We arrived at 5 and only two other tables were full. 1. For the food, it was average to good. They have a lot of unique things to choose from that you wont get at other restaurants. We ordered the spinach and kale dip which was quite good. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli which was $12, and I added the chicken to it for $3. The ravioli was pretty good with a cranberry cream sauce with beets and cauliflower on top. For the $3 of chicken, I received 3 very slim pieces of chicken, or about 3 bites. I would guess about 25 cents worth of chicken. Also, the chicken was way overdone and very chewy. The portions are rather small here so the amount you pay isn't proportionate to what you get. My wife had a crab dish which was okay. 2. Service was average. Since the place was almost empty all of the waitresses were at the bar talking and laughing. You could hear their whole conversation. One waitress was telling a story about how she had gone to a restaurant and the waitress had a seizure right in the middle of the restaurant. Didn't act very professional to me. None of the waitresses were smiling or seemed happy to be there. Also, our waitress was rather slow. She came and took our drink order but it was another 10 minutes before she came back and took our entree order. Also she rarely checked in with us. There are a lot better restaurants in the mt pleasant area with better service. I was torn between giving it 3 stars or 4 stars, but I only give 4 stars to restaurants that I would go back to in a heartbeat and I can't say that here. read more

This is one of my go-to sit-down-casual-yet-sortof-fancy restaurants. It has good atmosphere and menu options, although I wish they had wild caught salmon (so few restaurants do though). Our last server was nice but really tried to push an upsell on a glass of $9.50 wine and didn't have any feedback on the more reasonably priced one I inquired about. Call me old fashioned but I refuse to pay much more than $7 or $8 for a glass of wine at a restaurant when I can go next door to Trader Joe's and get an organic bottle for $6. I do appreciate the healthy side dish choices and weekly specials. Last time I had the pan fried butterflies chicken with sautéed spinach and kale and asparagus...delish. read more

This is a busy lunch location and parking can be a challenge. Be patient, it's worth a little wait. Very fresh and tasty gourmet type sandwiches and soups. Five Loaves = Five Stars! ! I have been loving food here for years. My first experience being long before I found Yelp Facebook or an IPhone. Thank you Angela for introducing me to the cute little cafe, that back then was tucked in the corner of Crickentree Village. In all those years I've never been disappointed with my menu selection. I love the half or whole, the side soup and salad, the vegan and gluten free! I love that it is fresh and I love that it is local! My all time favorite is the turkey sandwich on a baguette. My best friend and I went to Five Loaves last night for dinner and our meal was amazing! From the mussels as an appetizer to the pomegranate cheesecake for dessert we had zero complaints. Chicken too dry to finish. Came with a small piece of bread. Again dry. Did not finish anything. This used to be one of my fave places to eat but after today not so sure. Maybe it's just too popular or maybe an off day. However the blueberry lemon mascarpone cake is still divine so if you go, try it. read more

This place has a great atmosphere and makes me think I'm at the beach. I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. The food was good and they had one vegan option and a few vegetarian ones. I got the sweet chili glazed eggplant wrap, but I felt it was drenched in sweet chili sauce. It was overwhelming and messy. It also came with a peanut sauce which went well with the chili sauce. Overall, I thought it was still good regardless of the sticky mess it made. Service was also decent. It was a bit slow, but I expected that since it was bust during lunch. read more

My husband and I love this restaurant! We've been going for about 4 years now.. And it's always a simple yet delicious meal. All the soups are wonderful and we especially love that they rotate selections. When you're in the mood to go out, but not have a super heavy meal- this is the place for you. I highly recommend it for lunch, but just be mindful of the "shift change" times of the day. We've only had a few issues with our experience not being 100%- but when we do it's always been when the cooks/servers are on their way in/out for the day. P.S. I picked the Cafe because I had to be in Mt Pleasant around dinner time and needed a place with Vegan options. The server wasn't aware of the vegan options and upon looking at the menu, there are only two, a starter and an entrée. We ordered the hummus and sweet potato chips starter and although it came quickly, it was a very small serving of chips, which were mostly crumbs, nothing big enough to dip with, and two sticks of celery. The amount of hummus was average to small and sort of blah. Not wanting the Thai coconut hot pot entrée, I ordered a salad on the daily special menu, which had dried fruit, but I still had to delete the cheese. I also ordered some tofu on top of it. The salad and tofu were ok, but again basically blah, and I wouldn't call it a large portion. My partner ordered the Caesar salad and said it was not very good, and it came with spring lettuce rather than romaine, so it just didn't work for him. Basically we were disappointed given all the good reviews and probably would never go there again. read more
