This was our first visit to Five O'clock and we were very excited as we had heard good things about this classic place. The food did not disappoint, as the steaks and sides were done to perfection! The ambiance we were treated to, however, ruined the evening. We had booked our reservation well in advance, so we should have been seated in the main dining area, which was wonderfully decorated for the holidays. Unfortunately, we were seated about 10 feet away from the single capacity bathrooms, where people waited in line for the next vacancy. We were totally annoyed by the bathroom visitors, as well as the "essence" wafting from the bathrooms. In addition, our table was directly adjacent to the aisle used by the servers to carry food from the kitchen to every dining table in the house. When I asked our server why we were not seated in the main dining room, she said that we should have specifically requested that when we made our reservation. Really?! The only reason for the tables adjacent to the bathrooms is to pack more people into the restaurant in my opinion. No one should have to experience dinner at this location in the restaurant! One other unusual practice at Five O'clock, is your server greets and takes your dinner order at the bar before you are seated. I'm not sure why this is done, but it is most likely done to increase the turnover rate at the dining tables. I think this practice is a tacky practice at best. read more

Last night my boyfriend and I went here and it was amazing!!!! All the way from our drinks to the packing of our leftovers. Our waitress was the best! She was extremely attentive and informative. My friends and I were here for a holiday get together-1 friend had never been. Had not been here myself since before pandemic and have been going here for over 20 years - Since it was Coerpers. I had reservations for at least 2 weeks in advance on a Thursday nite. They first tried to seat us upstairs and were annoyed when I said no we want the main room ambience-mainly cause my gfriend had never been. Treated us like we were walk-ins. They then rushed us to a table in the middle of the main room -normally you order at the bar and then are seated. From that point we felt we were extremely rushed thru our dining experience. While our server was attentive, he rushed thru everything, including talking to us about specials and their unique dining process. He also brought us the wrong drink order but we couldn't get his attention. While the food was good we were extremely disappointed in the whole experience because of the rushing. They clearly overbooked and we paid for it. The main dining was also very very loud, we could barely hear each other or the server. Overall-this place is going downhill. For the price point and reputation, may look elsewhere next time for a good supper club experience. read more

This place is old school - one expects a lounge singer with a pompadour! The bar is excellent, the bar tenders are great. The steak is really, really good. They bring out a relish tray! This place really is a gem however I feel they had a bad night as far as our meal . The lobster tails tasted like ammonia.. when googling this it is such a thing and it means the lobster tails were bad or were dead long before cooking or freezing . One steak was really really charred and not very good . I WILL TRY THIS PLACE AGAIN BECAUSE IT REALLY WAS NICE !! I would give this 2 stars. The steak was excellent! Got the Porterhouse and it was cooked perfectly to our requested temp. But when 2 out of 3 dishes have to go back to the kitchen, I can't see giving anymore stars. The King Crab legs were old. They smelled and tasted fishy. The crab mac and cheese had NO crab in it. The waitress dug through it at our table to prove us wrong and couldn't come up with one identifiable piece of crab. Even when we found some in the 2nd order it was small and couldn't be tasted past the cheese of the mac and cheese. Don't waste your time or $17 ordering it. I understand the supper club vibe and pacing your guests. But 45 min for the salad and bread course when there is only one other table seated is excessive in my mind. Also even though the place was empty when we sat it was loud and just got louder as it filled up. I have one word to describe this place: Phenomenal! My husband and I were looking for someplace special to celebrate our 1st wedding Anniversary while on a getaway to Lake Geneva. This place fit the bill. It's just a short drive away in Milwaukee and it was so worth the drive. We had wanted to try the old school supper club after seeing a documentary on Channel 11. After doing some research, we decided on 5 O'Clock Steakhouse and we are so glad we did. This is not just dining, it's an experience. They have it down to an art. First, reservations are required. When you first arrive you are seated at the bar area where you can order drinks and wait to be escorted to your table. The bar tenders are so classy, dressed in their white shirts and black vests, and they really know how to make great drinks. My husband ordered the old fashioned and I had the lemon drop martini, which were both excellent. Then a server comes to go over the menu, answer any questions you might have, and explain how the evening will go. This person will be your server for the evening and takes your order before you go to table. She also sets up the table in advance with the salad, bread and pickle tray so everything is in place when you get to the table. Now to the food, to say it was delicious is not enough. My steak was cooked to perfection and so delicious, it melted in my mouth. They put this wonderful mushroom sauce on all the steaks and it just provides so much flavor. My husband had the lamb shank, which was also wonderful. We also had a delicious dessert the kalua cake. From start to finish this was a fantastic experience. Our reservation was at 5:30 (New Years Eve) so it was just starting to get busy. Greeted with friendly smiles, and sat down within minutes. Our sever came an introduced herself, took our drink order and soon brought bread and other goodies to munch on. Which was good. I ordered Prosecco and it was stale. I kindly told her it didn't taste good and she took the glass, no apology or "let me fix that", or anything. She returns with a new glass, which was good, but no follow up to see if it was any better. In fact, like I was bothered her. Appetizers: stuffed crab/ mushrooms were very bland and no crab. All breading with no flavor. Steaks- filet and ribeye were over cooked. We ate a portion and took the rest home. Had an 8pm reservation on a Saturday night. Valet parked with no issue and entered to find our Hostess, Debbie, was waiting for us and immediately using our name and asking if there was anything special that needed addressing. Sat immediately at the bar and ordered different cocktails, all of which were crafted well. Great bartender banter while we ordered and waited for our table. Wonderful supper club feel. Not quite a throw back, but unique in the area for steakhouses which now tend to be sleek and modern. When we sat at our table, the salad and appetizer was delivered immediately. The salad was fresh, tossed table side and the calamari was tender and warm. Very nice start. Warm bread was a great compliment. We ordered the king cut filet, bone in rib eye and strip steaks. All three were cooked to our specifications and all came at the same time. A nice feat since the three steaks were all of different size. Perfect. Our sides included a baked potato so large it was cut in three parts by our server, asparagus and a wonderful lobster mac and cheese that was surprisingly good. There's no way I could write a review as good as this place... I was by myself and asked if I could eat at the bar, it wasn't very busy so they said that was fine. The waitress who took my order was very nice and prompt. She explained everything about the menu very well. I ordered a the 8oz Filet (Ladies Filet on their menu, haha), and I'm usually not one for sauces and such on the steak but I ordered it as it comes. The meal is preceded by a salad bowl that would makes the salad bar at Sweet Tomatoes look like child's play. It was a salad buffet brought to your table. If you like ranch dressing, you could swim in theirs. It's a homemade ranch and don't bother asking how it's made, they'll politely tell you they'll never tell! Now for the steak... I ordered mine medium well, butterflied. It came out perfect. Their steaks are broiled and come out drenched in a steak/beef sauce with mushrooms. If I wasn't impressed with everything so far, this steak would seal the deal. At this point I regretted only getting the 8oz. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. We had a 8pm reservation to celebrate our friends from Chicago's engagement. We waited 47 minutes before getting cracker sticks and a slab of butter. 18 minutes later we received salad dressing. 11 minutes after that we received the actual salad. We were willing to look past the poor service at this point, had the meal that was coming been good. We started with "bacon sticks", which were about the only good thing to come out of this visit. We then received our meals; two racks of ribs, a MR New York strip, and a MR ribeye . We also ordered a baked potato, asparagus, and french fries for sides. To start, The ribs tasted nothing of barbecue or actual rib meat but of pepper only. The New York strip and ribeye were not only drowning in au jus, which the waitress multiple time it's called "marinade", but they also were chewier than a steak I'd buy at the gas station ( for $55 steaks ). They were described to be 'charred' and 'seasoned well' upon menu reading, but the only taste that came to light was the au jus (in a not so great way). The asparagus was basic, nothing to rave about. The french fries were those of frozen kind, again not worth the $$$. The baked potato was a $8 hockey puck, delivered to us without butter, sour cream, etc. Upon attempting to serve, it was unable to even be cut with a steak knife. The center was completely "deflated" and had to be torn apart. When mentioning this simple thing to the waitress, her response was "you must have gotten an old one" what ?!?!??!?..... We were thankful to her for the meal and never once complained other than asking about the potato! We were looking forward to this meal to celebrate a great occasion, and we're left with nothing but disappointment. as read more

I don't post a lot of reviews, but this place deserves a mention. I've recently moved to Chicago from NYC - and have gone up to the Milwaukee area pretty often for work. Found this place on Yelp and let me tell you guys it is LEGIT. I work in the industry, also really love a good steak and these guys are up there if not better than the big names - Luger's, Wollensky's, Old Homestead...all of them. Not kidding, it's that good. If you like perfectly cooked, charred steak (with jus and mushrooms)...which I do, then this is your spot. Steak comes with a crazy salad for the table as well so you really don't need to order more than your cut. Though if you can handle another item, the onion soup here is also one of the best I've ever had. Flavorful, cheesy and most importantly not too salty. Serving soup that isn't too salty is an indication that the kitchen pays attention to it's food (I've worked in kitchens for a long time) - these guys definitely do. The room is definitely old school - feels like having a great dinner on the set of Goodfellas. It's a positive thing for me...old school is trendy now anyway. We made reservations for my birthday and the entire dining experience was phenomenal. They start you off at the bar where you enjoy a cocktail and place your order for dinner. Then they seat you at a table where you start with bread and a delicious salad. My fiancée and I both ordered the 8oz filet and were blown away about how incredible it tasted. Their special au jus sauce is amazing and we kept wondering how exactly they make it. One of the managers named John was a really nice guy; he came to our table and made friendly conversation and we were impressed with his professionalism and kindness. Our server was Joanie and she was also incredible! I had high hopes based on numerous reviews I read prior to visiting earlier tonight but overall this restaurant was a huge disappointment. I originally found this restaurant on the Open Table app which has 4.8 stars. I opted not to make a reservation though because I figured why reserve a table when I'm eating alone as I'm traveling for work. Instead, I figured I'd be able to sit at the bar like any other steakhouse I've dined. Upon arrival, there was no host to greet me so I made my way to the bar and sat for several minutes while the bartenders took turns looking in my direction while ignoring me. During this time, a group of six people waiting to be sat came to the bar and were served promptly while I continued to wait. Eventually, a man who appeared to be the host or maybe a manager approached me and asked if I had a reservation. I explained no, I had just walked in. He then asked for my name which I provided and he entered it into his tablet and walked away without any explanation. A few minutes later, one of the bartenders asked if I needed anything and I asked for a menu. She then handed me a drink menu and I ordered a glass of wine. After the drink was delivered, a woman approached me and she explained she'd have a table ready and she handed me a menu. I asked if she wouldn't prefer that I just sit at the bar since I'm a party of 1. That's when she explained they don't serve food at the bar. She said it be a few minutes before a table was ready and then she read the menu to me explaining how great the char on the steaks is from their 1800 degree oven. She then took my order and the advised she'd be back in a few minutes to show me to my table. Over the next ten minutes or so I stared through the bar to the dining area which had numerous empty tables although that did not surprise me since I knew Open Table had a bunch of reservations available. As I sat there I wondered what was taking so long considering many of the empty tables were for parties of 2. Finally, my server returned as she escorted me to my table which was at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen... this is where it gets ridiculous... the table looked like it had been placed as an afterthought or in addition to the normal seating arrangement. It was situated in front of a set of stairs leading upstairs while also facing the opposite direction of the tables next me which meant the guy at the table next to me had the back of his chair pressed against the right side of my table. We were so close that I felt like I was sitting with him while his elbows and back of his chair kept hitting and shaking my table. I was sincerely concerned that the candle on my table was going to set his shirt on fire. By the time I saw this table, I had already ordered my dinner (while sitting at the bar) and I had drink in hand so felt like I had no other choice to see this through. After all, she promised me this amazing steak with char. I was thinking 801 Chophouse or Strip House in Vegas quality so sure I'll suffer this ridiculous setting. Boy was I wrong. The ribeye was delivered to me floating in au jus and mushrooms. I had no time to read the menu myself as the waitress had literally read the menu to me in a frenzied rush so I'm not sure if the menu explains the au jus and mushrooms that come with all their steaks. But I know the server did not explain it. When I asked if that was how it was supposed to be prepared, she explained yes, all their steaks come like that. She then offered to correct it to my liking and I agreed since I am not a fan of steak tasting like mushrooms. She swiftly carried the steak back to the kitchen and 30 seconds or so later re-emerged with the steak and the au jus and mushrooms on the side. She confirmed they had not remade the steak, they just dumped the au jus and mushrooms into a bowl. Ok, fine. Now maybe I can taste this wonderful charred steak. Nope. I quickly discovered that soaking the steak in au jus had softened the charred crust of the steak. Even worse my medium rare steak was actually cooked medium well. Also, without the au jus I could taste the complete lack of seasoning. It was overcooked and bland. Not once did my server check to see if everything was ok. However, near the end of the meal, with two bites left, the host/manager from earlier came to my table and asked how everything was. I told him it wasn't great. I explained the steak was over cooked and I showed it to him. He seemed uncertain how to respond then simply thanked me for letting him know. The server did try to make amends for the au jus fiasco by bringing me the smallest piece of key lime pie I've ever seen. I'm not ungrateful but merely amused as it was incredibly unimpressive and rightfully so given the overall unimpressive nature of this restaurant in every respect. read more

Parking: There is a huge parking lot, but was coned off so you need to use their valet service. I parked on the side street. Inside: Ummm yea, it feels like your sitting in a dive bar. Think older bar, wood paneling, colored Christmas lights, boob paintings, and dark. I kinda think it was never updated. Bathrooms were clean, but insanely small. The men's room had a urinal right inside the door and next to the sink. Open up the door and had the pleasure of seeing another mans junk standing there, yup that happened not once but twice. Staff: I had the pleasure of being served by an older lady. While she didn't have an attitude she wasn't any way actually pleasurable. Like someone that has worked at a place for 20+ years and just doesn't care any more. Food: No appetizers, just sides. Onion rings are just like other pizza places just twice the price. I had a $48 steak that I asked for medium well ... it came medium rare. Inside was closer to rare. My waitress told me it was what I ordered and I just gave up and ate half. I ordered a key lime pie for desert. It really seemed like cheesecake with some lime sauce that was squirted on top. read more

I came here with my family for my birthday dinner and as always had an unbelievable experience. If you have never been here it has the supper club feel to it. We love sitting at the bar before the meal enjoying a cocktail and just watching the mixologists working. As for the food it is hard to beat. My wife loves the bone-in filet, if you have never tried one I strongly suggest it. I prefer the bone-in ribeye which is a great steak that is comparably to any steakhouse anywhere. My daughter is not a big meat eater but she was more than happy with the salad, the mashed potatoes and the asparagus. As for the service, most of the servers are excellent but Zarije is my favorite. I am completely disappointed by the service that I received at Five O'Clock Steakhouse on 01/18/2023. I took my date out for his birthday and wanted to treat him to a nice steak dinner. I asked for recommendations on social media and many people raved about this place. First, my date told the server he was allergic to mushrooms. She then proceeded to let us order the shrimp scampi and when the plate arrived it had mushrooms on it. He said he didn't want to make a fuss and would eat around them. Second, we both ordered ribeye, he had his Oscar style. When the steaks arrived, I cut into mine and it was clearly overcooked. I showed the server and she told me to cut in another area of the steak because where I originally cut wasn't a good indication of the steaks temp. I cut in a different place and I repeated that it's over cooked and then i stated it's tough. She replied "that's how ribeye is" NO, IT'S NOT! She showed the manager and they re-fired the steak. I asked for medium again. The steak came out and I was told to cut into my steak again and my server would watch me and this time it was under cooked. They put the steak back on the grill and yet again the steak came back out undercooked. At this point I was frustrated and hungry. The manager came to the table this time and I let him know that my first steak was over cooked and my second steak was undercooked twice, and I was just explaining to him that I didn't want to be "that customer" but as a paying customer, I should be satisfied with the product especially at those prices. He said that he would make adjustments to the bill and I thanked him. My server asked did I want to take the steak home? I said I'll take it home and her reply was "by the time you reheat it it'll be at the temperature you want it to be," makes sense. When the bill came out, I counted three steaks on the bill. One Oscar style and two regular. At the bottom of the check, one ribeye was removed and then $20 was taken off of the other steak so I was still paying for one and 1/3 steaks and I asked the server why wasn't my steak taken off and her reply was well because you're taking the steak home they only took $20 off. Excuse me??? I asked to speak to the manager again. My server went to go get the manager and either the manager decided he didn't want to come back to the table or the server decided she didn't want to ask him to come to the table again. Either way, the manager never came back to the table. I was told he was busy with something and a new receipt appeared with an extra $10 taken off. I was in shock at this point. It wasn't about the money. It was about customer service. I chose to spend my money with your business and I did not receive the service or correct product that I should have. I couldn't believe that a restaurant with such a rich long standing history in Milwaukee with this "great reputation" was operating like this. In the end, I paid the bill, still tipped and walked out hungry. I've never been so disappointed.....Never again!!!! read more

Best Filet I've ever had. The king filet is a 16 oz masterpiece, and the au ju is delicious! I added a baked potato and a bottle of wine, what a memorable meal! The staff was friendly and helpful. I loved the ambiance which took me back to the classic steakhouses from the mid 20th century. Old school milwaukee in the best way. Dining is a true experience where you start at the bar for cocktails, get served a relish tray, take you order, and food is packed for leftovers table-side. Being a supper club much less stuffy than the steakhouses downtown and the steak charred in au jus is unlike any other. read more
