The interesting thing was when we got the steak and made the fist cut then looked at the each other immediately as we saw more pink instead of red in the middle. Talked with the waiter who apologized and said they would remake the steak. We didn't think that it was a big deal. They gave us a coupe of free desserts as well. Came for Downtown Dining Week. We were advised by friends to skip the tenderloin sandwiches, who instead ordered the filet mignon - which is, of course, no real comparison. But the filet mignon was great. Very well cooked and seasoned. Skipping the tenderloin, I went with the salmon, which was a tad dry. But perfectly seasoned. The grilled beans, onions and garlic were a great addition. I just wish it was a tad moist. Then it would have been perfect. Flourless chocolate cake was ok, but I had just had a better one at the Edison a day ago. Creme Broulee was right on though. Loved every bite. Overall, a classy restaurant that requires being well dressed (though I'm not sure that the dress code is enforced much) and professional service. I will never return to this restaurant. I have gone on and off and in the past 18 years and originally the steaks were great as well as any other entree. However, I went this past weekend and once again was so disappointed in their steak. They are definitely using a lower quality meat and at $68+ you just can't do that. My family is/has been in the restaurant business my whole life. Capitol Grill is cutting corners. I certainly understand that beef has skyrocketed however in lieu of that, offer a smaller portion-do not skimp on the quality. I was not the only one who had an inferior steak. Everyone who ordered it complained. It's not that it wasn't cooked properly. It is a poorer grade than should be served at this type of restaurant and cost. The sides were great as well as their deserts but that is not the main course. They should make the main course "shine". People will remember a fibrous steak even though the sides are good. Unfortunately someone has to say something or they will continue and that is a shame. Not everyone has unlimited funds to dine out. There are people who save up for months for a special occasion and end up with sub-par food. I certainly hope the management hears the message. read more

First time visiting and I enjoyed it. Our server Lauren was amazing, very funny and sweet. It was nice inside, dimly lit, the art was... interesting. I ordered the chicken breast with the risotto which was delicious the chicken was very tender. The risotto was flavorful I enjoyed the mushrooms and asparagus, it was a good texture too. The lobster mac was my favorite, it is a side but a good portion, I greedily wish it was bigger. I usually don't care for breadcrumbs but it really added to the dish. I'm excited to eat my leftovers! We celebrated my friend's birthday and she received a cute chocolate cake and cheesecake, the cheesecake was delicious the berry sauce made it even better. I have been attending the yearly generous pour event here for 15 years. It started out at $25 and has gone up every once in a while and now sits at $38. That's not a problem with how the times are. Every single year I have always tried all 6 or 7 and then continued to drink additional pours of my favorite 1 or 2 throughout my course. I typically order several apps, salads, soups, entrées and dessert. Its a 3 plus hour event. This time after our initial pours of the 6, I really only cared for the pilot nor and asked for more of that one. We were given a new glass with a standard size pour of that. When our steaks arrived I asked for another glass of the pilot and the waitress asked if I would like to purchase a glass at the going rate? I thought this was odd and said I purchased the generous pour which was basically as many additional pours of wine that I liked. She gave no explanation or anything and just asked again if I wanted to purchase more which I of course said no. She didnt appear again until it was time for the check. Needless to say this event is no longer worth it. At that price I am better off buying 6 bottles of wine and staying home which I advise anyone else to do as well. Also the food is pretty good. However the menu has not changed since I first started going 15 years ago. It is stale and lacks any imagination. I know its a chain but they need to freshen up the menu for anyone who dares go now. Visited the day before Valentines Day 2026 for an early dinner before a concert. Impeccable service, food, and atmosphere.

The food was amazing and delicious. I really was enjoyed my time celebrating my birthday with my daughter and husband.

My girlfriend and I had lunch in the bar area, and I was truly impressed by both the food and service. They were hosting a Wagyu and wine event, so we decided to try one of the appetizers from that menu (I even had caviar for the first time!) and also shared the crab cakes. The seafood was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Our server, Joshua, was outstanding--attentive, professional, and always there when we needed him, despite having several other guests to look after. Despite the large number of customers that day, we got our food within a reasonable time after ordering, indicating good organization at the restaurant. Our server did appear to be, nevertheless, trying to limit the discussion of foods choices and take away our unfinished dishes a couple of times, possibly because she was asked to ensure fast turnover of customers. Dear Capital Grill .... is this medium well? Someone didn't get the order right!!! When you spend $25 for a burger you would expect to have your temperature request to be a little better than this. Stopped in before heading to an event at Fiserv Forum and was unfortunately disappointed. Sat at the bar for quicker service and well that was a wrong thought .... ordered a glass of wine and a water to begin with and the bartender did serve me the wine quickly no water arrived until I again asked (after waiting about 10 minutes). We placed our order which included an appetizer and then entree (which one item was their famous bar burger). After we placed our order and received our appetizer we asked for their bread basket (didn't think we had to ask everyone around us received a bread basket so why did we have to ask?) so as we waited for our entrees still no bread (now it's the point that we are being ignored) then our entrees come and well so did the bread (everything all at once nice timing). Then as we start to eat the burger was prepared rate/medium rare when I asked for it to be prepared medium well/well done (it's not only a flavor but a texture thing for me). Throughout the whole time the bartender ignored us cleaned and served others but not us the two people sitting directly in front of her at the bar. Nonetheless paid $25+ dollars for the burger (and of course the other items were not a small price tag either) and left with unsatisfied service and food. The staff acknowledged our note from the Open Table reservation that it was out anniversary and we received a card and free dessert, which was much appreciated. They have great deals during this week and it's so worth it to go once a year. The ambiance is on the fancier side and it's nice you can see into the kitchen and watch the chefs at work. The service here is always top notch and never intrusive. There is a balance I feel and these waiters and waitresses have it down. The food is always excellent when I come. From the creamed spinach, to potatoes and steak; I don't think you can go wrong here. My steak is always cooked to perfection how I like it; medium rare. That's a must for me. And last, but not least, the crème brûlée is divine! The absolute best way to end a meal. It's my favorite and they do a fantastic job. The bread and butter were tasty. The lobster mac was delicious as was the crab and lobster cake. My NY strip was cooked to my liking, however, I would not order it again. I would order a cut with more marbling. The kona crust and shallot butter added a bit less flavor than I had hoped. Having more of the shallot butter would have helped. We had Austen as our server and he was very friendly and professional. My wine glass was never empty! We were seated right away which is always appreciated and my friend and I both decided to do the Restaurant Week menu. For $45 we were able to get a salad, entree, a dessert and potatoes and creamed spinach to share. I ordered the Field Greens Salad, Steak and the Flourless Chocolate Cake. A bread basket is provided but there is no gluten-free bread available. The salad was unfortunately a bust. I'm not sure if my dressing was forgotten or if it was just such a small amount on the salad but this tasted like plain mixed greens with carrots. My steak on the other hand was perfectly cooked and paired really well with the potatoes and creamed spinach. Finally, I barely had room but the flourless chocolate cake was excellent! I would definitely come back but my final bill for restaurant week + 2 glasses of wine was $91 which is just a little steep for what I received. I had not been in Capital Grille in years (since the great Elite event many years back!) but picked them for dinner before a recent show at the MSO. The interior is what you'd expect - clubby, with lots of rich colors and booths. They have portraits of famous Milwaukeeans on the walls which is a nice touch. We started with shrimp cocktail ($15) which netted us 5 meaty, very large shrimp nicely presented on crushed ice. Both of us opted for Caesar salads ($12?) which I'd class as "generous side salad" portions. The salads were fine but I think I'd skip them next time as they weren't anything special. For mains, we both had steak because that's kind of what they do. I had a tenderloin and he had a ribeye au poivre style. We added aside of au gratin potatoes - everything is all carte and sizes can feed 2-3. Steak wise, as expected they were really good. Mine ended up a definite medium rare rather than medium but I did not complain as it was very good as it was. We asked for dessert recommends from our server and ordered creme brûlée (delicious) but we were surprised with a extra 2 small servings of cheesecake and flourless torte. That was a lovely surprise for sure! Service was great from Elizabeth who might love Costco even more than I do! Overall, I really loved our dinner here. My perception was that CG was crazy expensive (and you certainly won't be paying Outback prices) but they come in about the same as places like 5 O'Clock and less than something like Carnevor. I always disregarded Capital Grille because it's a chain. Shame on me for being a snob and not checking it out sooner since it's actually really good! We recently dined here for my mom's 65th birthday. She made a reservation and when we arrived the staff wished her happy birthday numerous times. They even decorated the table with some confetti and had a card ready. That's excellent service right there! Our server was lovely. She definitely set the tone for a great meal. We ordered drinks and a shrimp cocktail appetizer to start. The shrimp was meaty, but not enough for 3 people. From there, we ordered our entrees, Seared Tenderloin with Butter Poached Lobster Tails, Filet Mignon with a lobster tail add-on, and Sushi-Grade Seared Sesame Tuna. All the entrees looked absolutely delicious. The tuna was outstanding. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The lobsters were a delectable treat. After all that amazing food, we ordered a couple of desserts. We shared the classic crème brûlée and the flourless chocolate espresso cake. I sampled both desserts and the matched by expectations, pure decadence. It was a wonderful ending to a fabulous meal. Overall, we had a great experience at Capital Grille.
