I decided to call Five or Free due to the stellar Yelp reviews but sadly did not get to experience what everyone else did. First off, the estimate time took way longer than any other estimate I have gotten. As a homeowner who has undergone extensive remodels I have a lot of experience in this area and it should be the priority of any business to make this process a quick and painless one. However, the estimate took well over an hour of my time. Their sales rep felt like a car salesman as he looked at other components of the house and said they have another business that does electric and gutters. In the end I was quoted a price that was more than double was Mr. Sparkle (the company I ended up gladly choosing) charged. Despite his push to book me, I told him I was getting other estimates. He ended up calling me back and offering me a small discount which still made the total the highest of three quotes I got. I can't speak for their work but I was disappointed at how expensive they were as it sounds like they do great window cleaning. Maybe their prices will be more competitive and I may be able to speak for their work in the future. read more

He apologized and offered to clean my windows for free. At that point I had scheduled another company. When Alex offered to cover the costs of the other company, he impressed me with his efforts as a business owner to make the situation right. Rather than have him pay for someone else's work, we scheduled a date for him to do my windows. Alex arrived on time and did an impeccable job on my windows and screens. He is an exceedingly hard worker. The windows were so clean that they appeared to be open. He obviously takes pride in his work and even replaced the netting in several of my screens. Alex went the extra step to ensure that I was satisfied after my previous review. He stood by his commitment and did the job for free even after I offered to pay for the work. My only regret now is that his territory does not include the location of my other house. I will gladly refer Alex to anyone in the Oakland area who needs their windows cleaned. read more

This is the second time we used five or free and both time it was amazing results. First it was for window cleaning on our second story condo. The windows hadn't been cleaned in 10+ years, and they were sparking by the time Alexis was done. The second job was for gutter cleaning on our two story house. These also had not been cleaned in quite some time and the house is surrounded by trees. Once again, great job, even snaked two of the down spouts. Alexis, who is a truly nice guy, did a meticulous job on all the windows in my house--all 260 panes! His pricing was fair for the almost 8 hours he and his helper spent. Alexis washes the window sills, too. Even the screens were cleaned. My house was left just as it was when he came with furniture replaced and window shades at the same level they were before the cleaning. Amazing attention to detail. As I always do before hiring a service company, I scoured Yelp to look for a great window cleaner for my home. I found Five or Free, read the reviews, and was immediately sold. I was expecting a great company, but in the end I got something different. I got an Awesome company! From the moment the owner, Alexis, came to my door to provide a quote I knew this was the company for me. Alexis is one of the nicest guys you will meet. He has one of those demeanors that just radiates nice. Alexis could be selling just about anything and I would buy it (and its generally hard to sell to me). He is that good and unlike many businesses truly cares about the customer experience. He provided a very reasonable quote after he inspected my home and before he left, I said "lets do it". We scheduled a time and date for him and his crew to come out to my home and as I expected they were right on time when that day came. His crew of four guys were just like him in that they were kind, courteous, and hard working. I totally get why though because Alexis' kind nature is infectious. When they were done cleaning all my windows, my home looked like something out of a magazine. Beautiful! These guys are meticulous and fast. They took all precautions to keep my home clean including taking off their shoes (without me asking). I just can't imagine any other company being better at window cleaning than these guys. Great service. Great work. Plain and simple. Scenario: A big storm hit a few months back and noticed a downpour at just one location of my gutters. Didn't know exactly what it was, just knew it wasn't good. Called a separate gutter cleaning company to come out for a quote. That guy said my gutters were clogged and some seams needed to be resealed. Anyways, he quoted me a couple of bills for the job, which I thought was a little high but pretty fair. Then I found Alexis. Emailed him through is easy to navigate website and he called me back within the hour. Said he'll come out to check on my gutters for a quote in a day. Not only did he do so, but he sent me a quote that very evening! His quote was SIGNIFICANTLY under the other guys quote, so I was sold right away. Next thing you know, he was scheduled to come out and clean the gutters. I wasn't available when he came out to do the work, but my wife was home and busy with the baby, but he rang the doorbell to let her know that he'll be working on the gutters. Did the job in about 1.5 hrs and boom he was out of there. Of course I'm not going to climb on the roof to inspect his work but you know what....I didn't need to!!! He emailed me the invoice of the work he did and sent me a personalized link that shows the before and after photos of my gutters. SWEEEEEEEET! In the words of my wife "Man that looks shiny!" Alexis did a fantastic job on all of my windows a few months ago and I was extremely happy with his work. He was very polite and arrived on time. My windows were spot free! Recently I had Alexis clean my gutters. I wanted it done before all the rain started. Wow!! What a difference. He emailed me before and after pictures and I couldln't believe how much debris was in my gutters. They are debri-free now and Alexis did an awesome job!!! Really like these guys. They use text messaging a lot to make arrangements which makes life much easier i find. They are really nice and thorough. Great work. Even helped to fix my fly nets which was above and beyond. Added bonus for me was they liked movie soundtracks so we played all my favs over the garden speakers for most of the day. read more
