My ice maker quit so, based upon their great YELPS , i made an appt. The tech called and briefed me on their service call charge($85) and cost of a new ice maker if necessary($200-300). Steve arrived right on time and went to work while i worked in my office . After about 1/2 hr he called out and announced that he was all done. The problem? A frozen valve. Total fee: $85. Called today. My LG front load washer has a leak. I found the leak source is the gasket was pulled away from the drum due to my trying to dry the gasket with a hand towel. I've isolated the problem and now either must purchase a $80-100 one time use tool, and another $20 one time use tool, (which I have purchased and Amazon has lost the package) or struggle with removal of the ring & spring. Immediately (Steve?) said he doesn't work on LG or Samsung. I asked, could I explain the situation to you and perhaps you could consider it? He didn't want me to explain, but I know the task is straightforward and will not take an appliance repair person, or any strong person much time or effort. There's even a reputable business showing a YouTube video on how to to the task with basic tools. This man was completely closed off. So I said, "well, thank you, good luck and goodbye." To which he responded, "Wow." Does he not realize how shut off and unwilling he was to me? The "Wow" should be directed at himself. I am suspicious about his business possibly sending my phone a solicitation text. Maybe, maybe not. I am being compassionate and only making down to 3 stars when originally I marked 1. I called to get an estimate for repairing my washer, and instead of scheduling an appointment and taking my money, this wonderful repair man helped me assess by phone that the part I was going to need for my whirlpool is no longer available, thereby saving me the cost of his home visit. I called Monday 2/21 and made an appointment to check out my washer that is leaking from the bottom. I was advised they would be here Thursday 2/24 between 8 am - 10 am. No one ever showed up or called. Granted, I could've called once 10:30 hit to see if they just forgot, but I shouldn't have to. I'm sure they do fine work, which is why I'm still giving a 3-star review, but I won't know because I now need to go with someone else. Don't go near this place! A very slick young fellow came out and rapidly determined we needed $$6000 in repairs for our 20 year-old Wolf range which cost about that when we bought it. He said a new one was $15,000. Wrong on all counts! He did almost nothing to arrive at his estimate which involve replacing all igniters, thermostat and a door hinge. Yet his labor cost was $260!? Wolfe referred me to Box Appliance which fixed the stove for only $780. It did not need a new broiler igniter. It did not need a thermostat and it didn't need a new door hinge. Steve explained what was wrong and his prices for the parts came to only 10% of what 5 Star wanted. He warned me that there are many Eastern European (including Russian) appliance repair companies that are doing such things hoping to get even one customer in 5 to agree to their exorbitant prices. Pathetic situation. And, by the way, a new stove (6-burner gas with oven) costs about $7000, not $15,000. read more

Last night I did a large load of laundry in our old washer and it flooded our garage. I called a bunch of places this morning to find an appliance repair person. Steve was the first (and only) person to call me back. I explained the issue and he told me to try running it without anything in there, that his guess was that it was overloaded and because it was so old it tipped which is why the water escaped. But, if that didn't work he could come tomorrow. So I tried it. He was right and his honesty saved me having to pay for a service call! This is a great company. Our GE Sub zero 20 year old refrigerator suddenly stopped working properly. We looked up a few near by repair Co. And called. The first place, local mom and pop shop said they could come out in 10 days. Second place we called is Five Star Applience Repair, they booked us for later on the same day. Phillip ( young fellow from Russia) very knowledgeable, professional and polite diagnosed our problem immediately. Gave us a very reasonable estimate and placed the order for the part we needed. Came back the very next day ( Saturday) installed the part , and that was it. Love this company for having knowledgeable technicians who can diagnose and treat. We are very great full. After MANY failed attempts at finding a repairperson, I was introduced to Five Star. They were responsive, reasonably-priced, and effective. Our repairperson, Alex, was amazing. He communicated exactly when he would be there, diagnosed the problem, and clearly explained to me what was wrong and how to fix it. In the end he saved us thousands of dollars, as I had resigned myself to buying a new fridge. I didn't think I needed a new fridge, but after many failed call-backs and re-scheduled appointments by other service providers, I almost caved. Fortunately, I made one last call. While I admit that my reviews tend to skew binary (Great! or Awful!), I assure you that this place is a bona-fide 5+++. Finding a legitimate appliance repair person is exceptionally difficult for two reasons: 1) Many places you call are not actual repair shops, but third-party services that route your job to any random repairperson available, and; 2) Almost all other options are via appliance stores who are trying to sell you a new appliance (and thus unlikely to go the extra mile to save your existing appliance). read more

Came home from the grocery store to find my refrigerator had stopped working, probably within the last day or so. It is Sunday, August 29th, I called Five Star Appliance and left a message. Steve called me back within a half hour and verbally walked me through a step that triggered the defroster to disengage and the fridge began working. The heat in our old Maytag dryer (an oldie, but a goodie) suddenly went out. YELP to the rescue. We were not sure if it would be more cost-effective to have it fixed or just go ahead & replace it. So, I called these guys & talked to Steve, to find out the cost for it just to be looked at....he quoted $65 for the service call. Although it was a gamble, I took the chance and thankfully Steve was able to fix it with a new part on the spot. Total repair, parts & labor for about $200 which is reasonable considering it would cost at least that much (plus delivery fee) to get another old used dryer about the same qualility. I must say, I appreciated that I was able to get an appt right away and that I was given a nice reasonable 2 hour window for my appt. An added bonus, Steve called when he was en route. He was prompt, courteous & professional. My only complaint is really my own fault....as I realized AFTERWARDS that I forgot to use the 15% off YELP coupon for 1st time customers. We called Five Star for a dryer repair. They came out on New Year's Eve (Steve was the technician) and were prompt, called before they came, and had the dryer working for no more cost than the service call (about $65). Later that day the dryer started making another noise, and Steve came back out on NEW YEARS DAY (his day off) and repaired it. He didn't charge us anything else and was very thorough in his explanations. He was respectful and polite. He doesn't charge any markups on parts, you only pay labor and the cost of the part if you need it, which we didn't. The office staff is also very polite and helpful when you call. read more

My Thermador range was not working well, and I tried two other repair services, both of whom were willing to give me a future date (very future) for repair, but no time frame.
