Please read the whole thing, I wanna add to what RG said because I just saw the review and I knew she was gonna make one and it's totally not the whole story, I was there and what actually happened on that day. First let me say that the technician told me and my partner ahead of time like they told RG that the vet was under surgery and wasn't gonna be out to see patients and that it could take a couple of minutes. Yes part of RG story is true but not the whole story was told. RG told them that her puppies had diarrhea, in which they asked RG how long have the puppies had diarrhea and RG said 2 weeks because she changed there food. In which the technicians said that, that's not natural because usually it takes dogs couple days to get better because of the food change and not weeks. They also said that they didn't want to vaccinate them because they didn't want to put the puppies at risk since they have diarrhea and they don't know what could it be, it could be a lot of things an infection or something in that nature which can put the puppies at risk. In which she demanded to talk to the Veterinarian, in which I previously stated that she was doing surgery and unavailable. She was yelling and demanding to speak to her in which they (the technician)repeated calmly and professionally that they couldn't because she was doing surgery. I get that people are worried about there animals because I sure ass hell was too, but come on someone's kid/brother/best friend was under surgery and of course the vet is not gonna stop the surgery. I sure ass hell, would be mad if I heard that my vet that I'm trusting the life of my dog stopped surgery to attend someone who can't wait. She was also super rude to the technician yelling at them, and as soon as the technician gave her the same energy she didn't like that. I also want to add that, I have brought my dog of 3 years here since she was a puppy everyone knows my baby girl, before the new vet came in and Dr Stern retired, we haven't had any complaints. The vet is very nice and caring and does take her time with pet parents like you would expect. I have nothing but good to say about this place and recommend it. Dogs don't come with instructions, so when we got him neutered at 2 years of age and they said that we really need to brush his teeth because he's a small breed and small breed dogs tend to have tooth problems. it was news to me? The nursing staff at this place is awesome as long as your awesome to your pet. She grilled me on not brushing his teeth but it wasn't uncalled for by any stretch of the imagination. Took my dog in because he was limping I said I don't know what's wrong with him the doctor suggested an X-ray because she was extremely worried X-ray was fine just too keep an eye on him and give him medicine did that and the next morning he wasn't limping no more canceled my appointment because he was doing fine and if he wasn't doing fine then I was going to send him back in right away the next day the call me saying my dog needs surgery yes that he needs surgery but when I went he was perfectly ok with X-rays but the manager insisted he needs his surgery I said ok but when I went in he was fine she was extremely rude and unprofessional for manager to just hang up on me after I simply said it's a lot of money I don't think I have that I under you are doing your job but she insisted he needed surgery and that he had to get evaluated before he needed surgery so to me that meant he still needed to be seen if he actually needed surgery but my dog is fine and walking on all 4's I don't know if she hung up because I simply told her why couldn't she tell me what my dog has and she couldn't because he still needed to get evaluated $500 to be evaluated when that day they found nothing wrong with my dog. He checks pets' physical heath with pationt and spend lots of time for them, and answers to all his coustumers questions. even one time we visit him because of our puppy's eye diecharges, and he visited our puppy free. My puppy was scared and growled at her when going in for a shot and she was shocked and suggested I rehome him which to me seems so unprofessional and rude. This vet definitely deserves 5 stars. My dog needed some teeth removed and after meticulously doing research on Yelp, I (reluctantly) took him to this new vet. My experience was great. Friendly and courteous staff were available Nd helped me make a same day appointment for a regular office visit. From there, the quickly took me and my dog to a room which is a bit small but they have soft, cushioned chairs to sit in and it's very clean and vibrant. The dr. wasn't able to completely finish the exam (my dog has severe trust issues with vets) but they were able to schedule me an appointment for a dental cleaning next day. Dental exam went well. They extractes 4 teeth, but with that, pain meds, dental treats and a bloodwork panel came out to 475.75. That was amazing. My dog's experience was also great. He didn't fear the clinic like he did with the previous vet we went to. He did growl at the vet but he'll be thanking him when the teeth dont hurt anymore. Definitely recommend them. read more

Not happy with this place. Doctor did the bare minimum to check my dogs and didn't even look at their teeth which is what I came for. Got an estimate for teeth cleaning and anesthesia and they said they would extract teeth If they felt it was needed in the moment, as many as 16 teeth is what they said they had done that week with another dog, at $65 a tooth and wouldn't even consult me and that was all I needed to hear to walk out. This review is mostly for the front desk: We have been coming here for vaccinations mostly and haven't had problems. We recently took him for his anal glands. I warned them that my dog doesn't like to be touched. He gets scared and angry when he knows he's cornered. I told them in case they thought it was best to sedate him. They took him in without really paying attention to what I was saying. They later took him out and complained how my dog is super aggressive and how "it's the last time they would do this." I understand that my dog gets aggressive in these situations. This is why I gave a warning in person and over the phone in order to find the best solution. (To sedate or not sedate.) My dog was in pain so I had no solution but to come and do this. At the end of the day, I am sure they deal with dogs with all sorts of personalities but this woman wouldn't stop with the rude comments. I'm wondering why she even works in a vets office if she doesn't seem to like animals. My dog is very friendly and mellow most of the time and the way they were talking about him was very upsetting. They are innocent creatures who all react differently in stressful situations. We will be taking our business elsewhere from now on. read more

Suggest antibiotics and if situation doesn't change make another appt in a week. So disappointing. I've been going out of my way to bring my dogs here for years now. There are other vets much closer, but I was always impressed by Dr Stern because he never tried to over charge or upsell me on unnecessary products and procedures. Well, there seems to be a new vet now, so that has all changed. It's all about upselling and getting you to spend as much as possible. But the worst part was when the front desk girl wanted me to sign an invoice that included a bunch of tests and products that I didn't want (almost 4 times the price of what I actually wanted). I told her I wasn't comfortable signing an invoice with all the extra unnecessary charges. She told me not to worry because she would change it after I signed it. ??????? When I said again, "I'm really not comfortable signing this, I'm sure you understand", she was incredibly rude, ignored me, and walked away! So that was 10 years ago, and I've been coming back ever since. Dr Stern and his highly-qualitity staff are knowledgeable, friendly, compassionate, and reasonable. In, addition Five-Star Vet knows what they're doing, especially in a gentle manner. Dr Sterns presence is calm, factual, and cares for the animals that come to him/facility, which is clean, just remodeled, and comfortable. They sell special diet food and medicine at a good price. The worst veterinarian ever! In the beginning I would always take my dogs here and trust the doctor with any diagnosis he had in regards to my dogs. But the last time I brought my new adopted pup to this doctor, he told me she had liver problems and that her stomach was full of fluid. I questioned if she was maybe pregnant, but he assured me she was not after using a stethoscope. X-rays and blood work were done on her. As well as sticking a needle in her stomach to pull out as much fluid as he could. The cost of this was $300. I did not hesitate because I put my trust in him and loved this puppy very much. He referred me to go to get an ultrasound for another $300. It took me a few days to think about it. One week after that visit, my pup had 4 PUPPIES!!! I was furious at the thought that he had misdiagnosed my dog and possibly inflicted harm by sticking a needle in her stomach. How could a veterinarian with years of experience not see if a dog is pregnant through an XRAY?? Especially since she was one week away from giving birth?? After confronting the doctor and requesting a refund for pointless tests that led to a misdiagnosis, he refused to give me a refund and clearly said "I am not God, this is practicing medicine." I would never refer this vet to anyone who cares about their dogs. There are far more better vets than this place. This doctor clearly did not care about my dog, but instead takes advantage of dog owners who place their trust in them. read more

My wife and I took our rescued kitten here to be spayed yesterday, and were both very disappointed with the level of service. This is not our normal vet, we take both of our cats to Happy Pets in Valencia, but because the price was so much more reasonable at Five Star and the reviews so positive, we decided to try it and possibly switch both cats over depending on the experience. Let me say emphatically, we will pay the higher prices for Happy Pets gladly!! I can't say anything about Dr. Stern because I didn't even meet him, wasn't offered the opportunity to. I know spaying is a routine procedure, but I am accustomed to 10 minutes of face time with Dr. Vega at Happy Pets for a routine check-up so I expected a hello from Dr. Stern either prior to or after a surgical procedure. Pick-up was a disaster. The young vet tech behind the desk with dyed hair was incredibly rude and not the least bit helpful. She handed over some paperwork and said "Here are your discharge instructions." Anything beyond that was prompted by questions from myself or my wife. When asking her what she recommends to keep our hyper kitten from running around, her answer was "I don't know, but she can't because then she will be back and you will have another bill." At this point, I walked out and let my wife handle the rest because I was ready to rip into her. Is it too much to expect a few minutes to go over discharge instructions? So once my wife was in the car with our Lucy, I went back in and spoke with the other vet tech (a male) at the desk who was much friendlier and actually did go over discharge instructions with me. He also offered to introduce me to Dr. Abrams. Too late at this point, the damage was already done and it was an all-around disappointing experience. Now assuming there are no complications to the surgery, it's all water under the bridge, but I still would not return because I value a warm, welcoming environment and doctors who will spend some time with the pet owners' and Five Star did not come close to providing this. read more

Ah, I have mixed feelings about this place. I like them because my boys are comfortable here. They're not afraid of the staff, the vet, or even driving up to the location; you know how some freak out because they're scared due to previous experiences. I also like them because their prices are reasonable and they don't push up charges on you. That's not to say they don't suggest it but they don't make you feel pressured. However, I HATE the wait time. If you want to avoid the "no appointment" charge you obviously make an appointment, which we do, but it seems like they completely disregard the list. We made an appointment and ended up waiting an 1 and a half before we were seen by the vet. When the vet came over he literally spent 5 minutes with us and already had a diagnosis for my baby. I'll be back because it's a way better option than the other vet down the street. However, I'd greatly appreciate it if they work on their scheduling. Tip Call ahead to verify that they are open. I have absolutely nothing but nice things to say about this vet office. I was referred to Five Star from a friend that goes there and have never been to such a great vet before. I've never owned my own dog before and the one I finally got was one that I found on the street. When I took him in, Dr. Stern came in the room and made himself comfortable. He looked over my dog and kind of just sat there petting him, then started explaining to me about the type of dog I had and about his health. I LOVE the fact that he took the time to explain everything to me and I did not feel rushed whatsoever. It's been my experience going to the vet that when you bring in a new pet, they usually try to sell you on tests and extras that you usually don't need. Dr. Stern did nothing of the sort. They have been very accommodating and did not charge for me for any follow appointments to check out my dog who had really irritated his surgery area. I thought for sure they would charge me for an office visit, that wasn't the case at all. When my cat had a bladder infection, they were cheaper than any other vet I had been too and again, did not try to up sell me on any tests. Dr. Stern is a very "try a cheaper method and if that doesn't work, then we'll start running the tests" kind of doctor. Being on a tight budget and with vet costs these days, I can really appreciate that. The one thing about this office is they are not open on Saturdays, but they are open on Sunday's and to me, that is so much more convenient. This is after I confirmed with their text to me on Friday, May 22nd. This is the second time I have trusted them, the first was with my 6 year old Great Pyrenees, who had been limping for years while going to Five Star Veterinary Center. On the first appointment with a different vet, Monte was diagnosed with cancer of the right front leg. We went to the recommended specialist and found we were too late to treat it. I had only a short time to say good-bye before it was just too painful for him and me. I wish I would not have given this vet the second chance to show he cared about my precious critters.
