Amazing service delivered super promptly! Our hot water suddenly stopped running. I requested service at 7 am and they pretty much got back to me with availability. Because our water heater's parts were not available in hand, they had to look for the parts in the warehouse. Throughout this process, we were given updates so that we could plan our day. We have a toddler so it can get super uncomfortable if it interferes with his routine. The service person gave us a thirty minutes heads up and came on time, fixed our heater and set everything correctly and there was hot water after twenty minutes. We even gave our toddler a bath before his night routine. It turned out super comfortable and a great value for money. They even accepted our payment on Zelle which was super convenient. Highly recommended for the coastside. Large 75 gallon water heater blew up middle of the night. Called the next morning and had guys here within hours. I called three companies and Five Star was the only business that actually requested pictures and gave me a real quote. The other two quotes were both over $2000 more expensive and would be two or three days away. This included made in America Bradford White tank. I have been using Yelp to find contractors. So, I felt the obligation to review my experiences for others' benefits. I will simply put the facts here, instead of my opinions, for your own judgement since I felt the best reviews helped me were those just telling the facts. I had contractors check on my leaking water heater. FSWH gave me an email with a quote $100+ lower than another one covering two more small jobs which I did not think absolutely needed. So I went with FSWH since my out of pocket would be lower. A guy came on time and quickly finished work. It was not a hard job and I could have done it by myself if I could have yanked out the old unit on my own just like the guy simply pulled it down from the stand without caring much about the stand. In general, it was fine with the work done and I would have rated 4 stars until the tech was charging the bill in the end. He said it would be the quoted total plus tax. I was a bit surprised and asked what tax. He said you buy the heater just like you buy others in stores and you need to pay tax. I said why it was not listed in the quote but he said they had assumed I would have known since people need to pay tax for everything. Anyway, I paid what he asked for at the time. Afterwards, I pulled out my old bills for contractor work, since my impression was different, and confirmed I never paid tax even in case of something installed. It had always been paying exactly what quoted. I checked around with friends and they told me it should always be just paying the quoted. If they collect tax, they have to include it in the quote. Quote is quote and it is all what you need to pay. They can not collect tax if they don't have retail license since they will have to submit tax collected accordingly. Basically I was told they were cheating. I was even led to the board's regulation code which clearly states additional tax should not be collected when clients get a quote for the overall job explicitly using plumbing as example. I exchanged emails and messages with the manager (Soa) and asked for refund. The manager firstly claimed the tech told me about tax on arrival. But I did not hear anything about tax until making the payment. If they would collect tax, it should have been listed in the quote instead of verbally on arrival. Also, what value was the tax based on? They sent me an email to show taxing me by 9.88% (my local rate) on the quoted total. Since that number does not meet the actual amount collected, they even said a "discount", which we never discussed any discount in any way before that, was applied to come to the number. Since the quoted total covered both labor and parts, they cannot claim no charge was for labor at all. When they "taxed" on the total, it meant they had taxed for labor which is illegal. After 2 weeks of back and forth, they agreed to issue refund pending for approval from manager who was said to be on vacation. After another 2 weeks of my checking and reminding, they issued the refund. So, I removed 1 star due to a lot of efforts spent in getting the refund. I am rating 3 stars since I did get refund and the work itself was fine even though not super. Fortunately, I did not need to get a lawyer, covered by my legal plan, involved. read more

We needed our water heater replaced and I talked to, and received quotes from about six companies. To get our water heater up to code, we needed to run a pipe to the outside and this drove most of the quotes pretty high because it required some crawlspace work. FSWH was one of the last companies I contacted. They gave me a competitive quote based on photos I texted to them which was very convenient. I had them come out to assess the new pipe requirement and crawl space issue. Well what do you do when your water heater stops holding water on a Saturday morning? You start calling folks (yes, I used yelp to find local businesses) who say they will get back to you quickly and fix it. Five Stars was the *only* company that called back within 5 minutes (or so, definitely less than 10) and could be here about an hour later. The person they sent out confirmed the need for replacement, quickly provided an estimate, and got to work. My experience shows 5 Star to be professional, courteous, and efficient. They also stand behind their work. One of the new solder joints developed a small-misting leak and someone was quickly sent out to effect the repair. No problems since (over a week ago now). As an aside, only one of the other local companies (I called five, most advertising a reply within 10 - 30 minutes) got back to me, about 6 hours later and well after I had running hot water. And yes, I did call WHO. They actually answered the phone rather than my having to leave a message. The problem was WHO could not send anyone for more than 24 hours! For many reasons I am glad they couldn't because I am much happier with the service I received from 5 Star. Shop local whenever you can. These good small businesses need our support. read more

My ten year old 50 gallon water heater sprung a small but significant leak late Friday evening. I've not had the joy of replacing a water heater, so did a bit of online research Friday night and submitted a quote request via Home Advisor, which resulted in referrals to three water heater / plumbing repair firms. Saturday morning around 8AM Five Star left me a message responding to the inquiry. I phoned back and Soa asked for some details regarding my installation and asked me for a photo of the current installation (I have a recirculator which could complicate things). I gave him some specifics regarding the model I wanted and he promised to get back to me with a quote. Fifteen minutes later he called back and gave me a firm price (including the water heater) which was fully competitive with other firms I eventually asked for quotes, and assured me they could replace it that afternoon (Saturday). I gave the go-ahead; a few hours later Soa called to say they had vehicle problems and could they come in the evening. I told him that wouldn't work for us, and he said he'd find another way to work around their issues. He showed up that afternoon in his personal vehicle with the new water heater. In two hours he efficiently removed the old one, installed the new one, and kept me informed on how progress was going and answered my questions regarding operation, and was done and gone (with the old water heater) by the time he had promised. As a new firm I couldn't find any online reviews for Five Star other than the three five-star reviews they got from Home Advisor customers, so I was a bit skeptical relative to the many other firms with lots of history, but I was impressed by Soa's diligence during the quoting process and by his commitment to getting the job done as promised in spite of the issues with the company van. My 12-year-old water heater was spewing out rusty water so I decided it was time to replace it. These guys returned my call within 5 minutes, were able to give me a rough quote over the phone, and sent someone over the same day to give me a quote and do the installation. The price was very fair given the speedy and competent service and the fact that Soa had to carry the water heater down two flights of stairs! I chose Five Star over my regular plumber because Five Star gave me a choice of either a Rheem or Bradford White water heater. I chose the Rheem after reading online reviews of both. (My regular plumber offered only a Bradford White and wanted to charge me $500 extra for carrying it down the stairs. We had a gas leak coming from the water heater control valve, and another highly rated company told us that they wouldn't be able to help us for several days due to needing to order extra parts. We were a little panicked, as it's a big pain not to have hot water with two young kids in the house. Monday night, nothing but cold water! Tried relighting the pilot, but the pilot kept going out. Good thing there was no external visible water leak. Used Home Advisor to find a reputable water heater specialist. Five Star texted back right away and when I called the next morning (Tuesday), they were able to give me an appointment for the same morning. Fuiva showed up with another nice technician. He opened up the water heater and gave us some good news. The tank was not slowly leaking internally (would have to replace the whole unit), as another plumber informed us earlier the same morning. The guys had the parts on board, gave us a quote, and we were done during our appointment window 10-12. He even went the extra mile and told us that our water heater was still under warranty and we could place a claim with the manufacturer. He even got the phone number for us to call! Great service!
