Came here for lunch today. It was not very busy when we arrived.. Actually still sitting here for over an hour waiting while waiting for our food. Got menus and were seated and brought water. We then waited for another almost 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We had to stop someone to ask if they would take our order as our table was ignored by several staff. No one ever took our drink order, we had to ask for those also. Meanwhile we watched as other tables were checked on and drinks were refilled, while we sat and sat. Food finally arrived. Food is good, but service was sub-par to say the least.. Seemed like they were more concerned with the bar patrons, as we watched their tables be visited quite often. We had to ask for everything, and once our food was delivered we were never checked on again, and drinks were never refilled. I really want this place to be successful. The location--heart of downtown--and outdoor seating are exceptional. However, when it comes to food and service I'm repeatedly disappointed. I'm not giving up on this place, but hopefully someone who runs the restaurant will read this and try to make improvements. I took 3 colleges here for dinner on a Thursday night hoping to show off a bit of Merced. The two pasta dishes were brought out first, but we didn't have utensils--the server did not come by for at least 10min so we grabbed some utensils from one of the MANY empty tables nearby. My pasta dish was swimming in sauce and my chicken-diced up cubes miked into the pasta--was so dry it crumbled when I tried to stab it with a fork. The sauce was delicious, and the mushrooms we're cooked to perfection, but that didn't make up for what the chicken lacked. Our beers went empty and server was not around to bring out another round. The boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch off of some Google recommendations. Very pleased! He had the steak sandwich with fries and I had the buffalo mozzarella ravioli with mushroom sauce and a side caesar salad. All was delicious! My favorite was the ravioli :) The staff is very friendly and location is perfect. Looks like they have a nice Sunday brunch with local wines & brews. Food is pretty average here. Our martinis were tasty and the food was just okay. I would not come here on the norm because it can get quite pricey. Unfortunately there are not very many options when it comes to formal dining in Merced so this place fills the void nicely. Environment would be good for special occasions but other than that I would not venture here often. read more

My grandmother and aunt came to visit me recently from So-Cal. My grandma is kind of a yuppy and was expecting me to take her to five star gourmet restaurants. But, Merced has a bunch of home town, quaint restaurants. Which is what I prefer. Anyway, I took her to all my favorites, and time after time she was disappointed. D: She LOVED this place. She got her wine, and fancy food. She loves filet mignon, but always complains that no one cooks it right. Well, this place did. They did it right. It was so relieving hearing her talk about how much liked it, and how she wishes there is a place like this in my home town. My food was really good as well. I didn't like my french onion soup, and our bread was super cold. Our waitress was pretty slow, but the dinner course made up for the initial mishaps. Five Stars purely on food. Went back for lunch... the salad dressing is definitely better but that was really the only good thing we had. I had the salad and soup with the tomato basil, which was rather blah. My sister had the fish and chips and, while the fries were good, the fish was so-so but there was no tartar sauce, just their special sauces. My son got the chicken penne with bacon and it was okay, way bacon-y but I didn't like the sauce, it might have been white wine and I don't like that. The soda machine had a problem, very low carbonation, but they seemed to have fixed it before we left. Our party of 8 arrived at around 1pm, just an hour before they closed on Sunday Nov 17th. We all conjoined two tables outside by the fountain. I believe we had to go inside to call a server to assist us. This young lady who didn't properly introduce herself without a name and seemed like she'd rather new somewhere else then at work. A total "resting b***h blank face". She took everyone's order We all placed our order by about 1:10pm. Two members of the party ordered the "5 for $5" mimosa special which was for only the next 45 minutes until closing. Those two members had to wait until the server came back out to get their 2nd mimosas refilled. It's only common sense that when one orders the "5 for $5" mimiosa deal with only 30 mins until closing they'd want them refilled without being kept waiting for the next. Either way one order of the belgium waffle from breakfast menu was either under cooked or what seemed like there was no egg in the batter to help keep the waffle together and prevent it from crumbling. There was nikki whip cream on the waffle as stated in the menu. The egg in that order was undercooked which is a high risk for salmonella or other forms of food poisoning. The server Kaitlynn (who we later found out what her name was from the receipt) didn't bring out the basic condiments such as ranch, ketchup, salt or pepper and any type of sauces for everyone's meal. We noticed she got a bit irritated bc she kept walking back and forth since we requested ranch, ketchup; which she forgot the first time, hot sauce. It would have been much easier to bring out the basics and essential condiments for a meal. The salsa for my breakfast burrito was flavorless but it was very well presented, every plate was. The gentlemen named Luke was very polite, cordial, well put together, well mannered, helpful and seemed happy and full of energy. As went inside which wasn't busy to retrieve the check I informed Kaitlynn about the Belgium waffle meal. Kaitlynn who in m identified herself as the venue manger said she could replace it with something else to go but we were on a time restraint. Kaitlynn and I walked outside and as you all can see these were the charges and we figured out why she didn't really care to serve us with the most adequate service... the gratuity was included, no apology, didn't seem to care and still with her blank look on her face. We didn't mind paying for anything on the bill but don't slack off just bc the gratuity is included. read more

Went here again with my parents for lunch on Saturday January 24. They thought the experience was really good. Especially for Merced, they thought it was great. However their one complaint was that the bathrooms weren't all too great smelling or too clean. I was really pleased with my lemon shrimp pasta. As with everytime I come to Five Ten, I always get the mixed berry creme brulee. It's always wonderful to eat it. Though this time the caramelized sugar topping seemed to be done a bit lightly and felt not as thick as I'm used to. Nonetheless, I was still very satisfied with my experience at Five Ten. I've been here 3 times and it's getting worse and worse. The first time I dined here it was a pleasant experience, the second time was decent (slow service), and the third time was just awful. I really want this place to make it because I love supporting small businesses in Merced, but I don't know if they will with their current service. The staff is very friendly, but clueless about food and service. I always have to ask for something---utensils, water refill, the bill, a box, etc... no one is proactive here. I had the fish and chips before and they were crispy & great. My last visit, they were gross and soggy! Inconsistent food/service. I told the waitress and nothing was done and I was still charged for something I barely ate after I already complained and showed her my bad plate. Hope they aren't losing momentum. It seems like they have the right intention at this restaurant, just a lack of knowledge and training. The food has potential if it stays consistent, but it doesn't so there's no guarantee your plate is going to be delicious. It's a hit or miss, so you're taking your chances when you come here. The ambiance is nice, and it's a cute restaurant/bar to hang out at on a weekend, but give yourself ample time. read more

Service problematic both times. 2 of 3 of us got our salads, forgot the garlic fries ordered with a meal instead of an appetizer. ( To their credit they did comp the fries). One time the flat iron steak with Gorgonzola sauce was wonderful, the second time they forgot the Gorgonzola sauce. Steaks were cooked perfectly though, and when it's done right, it is delicious! The one time I tried to eat here resulted in the only thing to go awry on our engagement night. We stopped in to have a cocktail and appetizer (fried calamari). My hubby (fiance at the time) asked for cocktail sauce and was told that wouldn't be a problem. I finished my mediocre martini and still no appetizer. After 30 minutes, my hubby asked what was going on. He was told the calamari had been ready for 20 minutes but they didn't have cocktail sauce. When my husband explained that we were no longer interested in calamari that had been under a heat lamp for 20 minutes, they were irritated and immediately began "talking shit" because it was our fault we wanted cocktail sauce. My hubby asked to speak to a manager, and the gentleman berating us paused long enough to let us know he was the owner before continuing to insult us. We left after placing money on the table. We went there for lunch. Surprised me it was fairly empty. We ordered the chicken & waffle app to start. It was definitely a wrong choice. A battered piece of chicken was sandwiched between two mealy cooked waffles. Not good. Two bites in & couldn't stomach anymore of it. We ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi with Mushroom Spinach Risotto & the Bistro Club. Another set of bad choices. The oil from the Mahi Mahi cast a reddish orange oilslick on the plate, the fish was over cooked & over seasoned. I really wanted the risotto to be good but it just wasn't. It was so bad. The Bistro Club- I swear had regular lunch meat- like bologna or some other unknown lunch meat- in it. We couldn't finish either. It wasn't good at all. I really wanted to like this place since the reviews were good in the past but it just wasn't good. The decor was cute but that's about it. Sad, but I won't be returning. read more
