Okay, what I'm looking for when it comes to straight forward services are price quotes based on my questions and photos provided. Of course, there might be unforeseen things that need to be done, additional items needed, etc. which will cost more but I want to know the base quote. If contractors are experienced, they should have a pretty good idea of how long something would take. Many contractors want to talk with you to probably gauge how much they can charge, if you're getting multiple quotes, etc.. I don't like haggling. I contacted Fix-It-Fox (Rob) via Yelp and he got back to me later that day with a quote. He's one person (as far as I can tell) and is working on jobs during the day so don't expect some dispatcher to get back with you immediately and he says that in his responses to people here on Yelp. If you have to contact him, try texting. If I did call him I would leave a concise message of what you're calling about but that's easier typed out and read for the recipient as I'm that way too. Anyway, I had a bathroom vanity light that I wanted replaced as well as a new wall mounted vent blower. Wiring was already in but just needed the units removed with the new installed. I have now enlisted Rob for two house projects. A fireplace / false wall / entertainment center remodel and a small closet drywall install and paint. I'm very happy with both outcomes. He's very easy to talk with to discuss options and ideas. He's also very efficient with scheduling. Within a week of contact he was at the house doing each project. I hired Rob to install door hardware on about 11 doors and hang some outside shades. Unfortunately, he did not do a very good job on the doors. He almost ruined our bathroom door. As a result, I needed to hire another door repair person to repair his work. The end result, I ended up paying double for the job. Be forwarned, if you desire responsiveness or help with occassional emergencies - contact someone else! I asked for assistance as my garage flooded from rain but Rob was "too busy with a commercial job," until the middle of the FOLLOWING week. So, I make do with sand bags and towels until he can come out the next week. Then he comes out, does a few other fixes the following week, and tells me he can't fix my garage flood issue because he has to SEE the rain intruding. But he can switch out the rubber at the bottom of my garage door for $100. (No thanks, I can do that). Fast forward a week, I ask him for help at 7am as my garage floods - so he can SEE it flood, and FIX it. And he replies at 1030 telling me to find someone else and that he had told me he's busy with a commercial job. Not only did he have his own timeline wrong, he was not responsive, wasted my time, and was careless and thoughtless for someone trying to protect their home from repeated flooding because he had a big commercial job. Here I am trying to pay and give business to small businesses, not corporate giants, but they say no good deed goes unpunished! I will not contact this guy again. Good riddance. read more
