Fix It People was recommended to me by a realtor friend. Though substantially more expensive than other service providers in the same field, I decided to go with them to ensure good results. Initially Tom came out to gauge the extent of the work. He looked at the different jobs and agreed to take care of them. When Tony came out to fix issues with the drywall and a door in the basement, I was highly satisfied with his professionalism, speed and the results. He came back for the remaining project, the 're-grouting of the front steps'. He removed the existing grout/mortar and decided that it takes a mason to re-grout it, as the gaps were bigger than he thought - which I could completely relate to. After a few weeks and many reminders also due to a lot of rain, Tom finally sent someone who allegedly was an expert to find out later that he was a sub-contracted tiler. When I checked in half way through the job, I realized that the color of the mortar was not even close to matching the color of the stone of the stairs. He told me that it would be a much better match once the grout is dry. While the stone of the steps is sand color, the grout is bluish gray. Unfortunately the area where the grout was applied is much wider than necessary and makes it stand out even more. Also the last steps were finished messily, so that grout stains are on the steps. Every time it rains now, the grout turns dark and makes the front entrance of our house look unmaintained. I have spent a lot of time talking to Tom to find a solution that works for both of us, as now we have to remove the grout which is a major undertaking, as it requires a special grinder that might even affect the stone. Masons who I asked quoted prices that exceeded the original cost by far. Unfortunately Tom did not offer any help. On the contrary, he keeps telling me that he pointed out that he could not guarantee a perfect color match. As mentioned above, the color is not even close, it was done unprofessionally and sloppy and it seems that we are stuck with the consequences. This has unfortunately been a very dissatisfactory customer experience and I get reminded every time I come home. read more
