Finally tried Gritz N' Wafflez. I am very happy I decided to try it today, which was a Monday and not too crowded. However, it was still pretty busy to me. The food was very delicious!!! I ordered the breakfast scramble and it was soooo delicious! I love how they put collard greens inside which is very unique from other omelettes. They put soul on all their food. The potatoes were even bomb and fresh and soft just how I like it!! I love how you can create your own meal with sandwiches, waffle combos, and breakfast plates. 5/5 for me with the food. I am also happy that I tried a piece of my mom's catfish and it was very good and tasty. For my drink I ordered the red sangria and it was just ok. I felt that no alcohol was really in it. But it wasn't too sweet which I like. The service was beyond exceptional!! The host was very nice and sweet and let us get a seat where we wanted, even though a server was coming in like 10 minutes to serve us. She had a really good personality and heart. Also, our server Chris was realllllly great!! Was our first time and he was very patient and explained what's best to eat. He was very generous and nice that he started a lil earlier than the time he checked in to get us something to drink. 5/5 for me with service really had a great experience with no complaints. The ambiance was very nice too! Cute inside and good seating. They have mimosas and breakfast speciality cocktails. Also, they do take reservations on open table so I suggest you make them since it gets crowded. They also have complimentary valet parking for 90 minutes!! Now that's a good look because that is very rare. It also shows how Gritz n' Waffles care about their patrons. Life and the economy is very bad right now so that's definitely a perk!! First time for my family and myself. Arrived just after it opened, so there was a little bit of wait but negligible. Unknown to us at the time, the owner explained all the dishes we had questioned. She recommended that we try the "Collard Greens Dip". I seriously can't articulate how good this dip tasted. She gave us samples of the sweet grits and the cheesy grits. My wife and daughter devoured both, but ultimately ordered the plain grits and added their own butter & salt only to wish they had ordered more of the sweet grits. I ordered the Wingz & Mixed berry Wafflez with the Mama Zula's butter. I had to take my time with this because it wasn't like anything I've ever tried on a waffle but I was transported to a place of happiness. The atmosphere is like having a "cookout". This will surely be on our places to return to the next time we visit LA.
I made a reservation for a group of 5 people at 1 pm. Upon arrival we were placed on an additional wait (it happens) but after waiting for about 30 additional minutes, did feel like the reservation bit was a little misleading if we cannot be sat with a designated window of arrival. Once sat we waited about 5-10 minutes before our server was able to fully greet us and get drinks started. Once our server was out the weeds she would check on us, as well as other staff members to get water refills, see if we wanted to order additional drinks. Food wise, everything tasted great. I had gotten the catfish with cheese girls in the Cajun cream sauce. Portions and flavors were fantastic, reminded me of the south. Prices can vary per person because essentially anything can had an add on price. So unless you want just a basic waffle and basic grits, your total per person will increase with any modifications. Overall, I enjoyed the food and would return- I just recommend coming with a group of 2 - 4 to be sat either within your reservation window or quickly after. In addition they offer a lot with 90 mins of complimentary valet parking, after that it's $10.
We always saw a huge crowd here on weekends, so we decided to try it on a weekday instead. I ordered the catfish n' grits and the tenders n' waffle, which also came with a small side of grits. I've never had grits before, but I was pleasantly surprised. That said, they were a lot heavier than I expected, and the whole meal ended up making me feel pretty sluggish as I kept eating. The tenders were just okay (maybe it was my fault for ordering tenders) but the catfish was definitely the highlight. The waffle wasn't as crispy as I would have liked and leaned more on the soggy side. I'm a bit mixed on the price to taste ratio. We enjoyed it overall, so I can't complain too much, but it's probably not somewhere we would go out of our way to return to.
My friends and I saw that Kamala Harris and her family ate here on Easter. We had a SoCal trip planned and decided to make a reservation and have Brunch there! BEST DECISION EVER! The food was soooo good! Everything we ate was great! I wasn't a fan of the potato salad, I don't like the skin on the potatoes. But the flavor was good. The Mac and cheese was good! I will definitely come back and try other items. My friends had the waffles and said it was amazing! Our waitress was great and very knowledgeable. It was busy in the restaurant and the vibes were great.
Black-owned upscale Southern/Creole brunch with chicken & waffles! I want them to use smaller wings not the jumbo ones. They have amazing greens and mac n cheese. The deep fried deviled eggs go dummy!! and the waffles and pancakes are incredible. everything is fresh and they have specialty lemonades and orange juices and all kinds of stuff !! Great vibes here.
I've been to the original location in the Pico area. I knew then, I was going to be a loyal follower of Jurni Rayne, Owner, Founder and Chef of Gritz and Wafflez. Easter Sunday brunch was a great day to visit. Chris was my amazing waiter. I ordered fried shrimp and grits. It comes in a bowl, but I asked for my shrimp to be on the side. I was also given their exclusive seasoning for the Gritz. It was amazing. I ordered a side of Wafflez and scrambled eggs with cheese. I mean it says Wafflez in the menu. When you order the Wafflez, get the Bourbon maple syrup. It was so good. I had regular maple syrup but I kept going back to the bourbon. Great great choice. The atmosphere was a multicultural happiness. I even got to take a picture with the Easter Bunny. Add some flavor to your breakfast or lunch and stop by Gritz and Wafflez. You won't regret visiting.
For the parking, you can park in the structure, valet (they're just gonna park your car on the street) or on the street ($.25 per 10 mins). It's spacious enough without it being considered cozy and they actually put enough space between the tables that the person behind you isn't in your way if you need to move your chair back. The servers were friendly and gave good recommendations. Our food was delicious. We had fried green tomatoes and celestial eggs for the table. They were so good we ordered a second round. I had the catfish with greens and potatoes and I ordered a side of grits. The fish was like butter and perfectly seasoned. My greens were like grandma used to make. The potatoes were actually flavorful even without the cheese and bacon I added. The grits were what you'd expect of grits and that's all right! My mom and aunt talked about how good the food was for the rest of the day. We'll be back!

We ordered a variety of items, all of which were good. Two waffle plates: deliciously light vegan waffle, tasty vegan patty, sweet berries topping and scrambled egg whites. Vanilla bean waffle, turkey patty, scrambled eggs. Catfish plate: flavorful catfish, greens, mac&cheese Tenderz N' Gritz: savory chicken tenderz, sweet grits, greens and homestyle potatoes on the side. Metered street parking is available on Wilshire and the adjacent side streets.

I'm usually not a Gritz person, but when it comes to theirs, I will polish the plate off. Their catfish and wings, fried to perfection. I also got their lavender Kiki Palmer lemonade. It's a spacious place but because of their delicious, you may have to wait a bit. They were closed for indoor dining due to flooding from the rain but will reopen soon. They are OPEN FOR TAKE OUT ! I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, so of course there was a brunch rush, but we only waited about 15 minutes to be seated for a party of 2. From the young lady that checked us in at the front podium to the young lady that was our waitress, (I think her name was Jada, please forgive me if I got it wrong) both of these young ladies were great and greeted us immediately and provided excellent customer service. There was also a young gentleman that brought out our food and he was amazing as well. I had the catfish, mac and cheese, and greens and when I tell you that catfish was fressssshhhhhh to death! It was delicious! My bff had the catfish, cinnamon roll waffle, and grits and we just kept stuffing our faces, talking about how good the catfish was! Everything on my plate was great! The vibes were all there and I just about sang and danced to every 90's song while enjoying my meal. It was a little loud in there because it was crowded and again, the weekend brunch rush but it didn't bother us one bit. The establishment was very clean, service was amazing and fast, and the food was great! Just the way I love it!We will definitely be back!
Everything was amazing. The new location is perfect for foot traffic. Start with the Peach Kiki Palmer with unsweetened iced tea. The catfish was nice and crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavor of the waffle was . I could have eaten it by itself by the macerated berries just took it over the top. This was a 10/10 would recommend. I want to try the fried gritz next time i'm here.

Finally made it to Gritz N' Wafflez, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. It's a little easy to miss if you're unfamiliar with the area, but they offer complimentary valet parking, which made getting there really convenient. The restaurant had such a great atmosphere. It was busy, but you could tell people were there because the food is worth it. Our server was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout the meal. We started with the fried green tomatoes and the collard greens dip, both were delicious. I had the shrimp and grits with Cajun sauce and bacon, and my partner ordered the peach cobbler chicken and waffles with bottomless mimosas. We also tried the Porch Punch and Southern Midnight, and honestly, everything we ordered was fantastic. It's not often I leave a restaurant immediately recommending it to friends, but that's exactly what happened here. Great food, great service, and a fun atmosphere. I can definitely see myself coming back, and if you've been thinking about trying this place, take this as your sign. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 1000 !!!!!!! THEE BEST BREAKFAST!!!!!! Ok so this is my new favorite place. I came here and from the beginning I knew that I loved it. The hostess was a sweet girl named Cheyanne. Now our waitress JADA- hey girl!!!!! I came here with my brothers and so it was three of us and she has an amazing personality Super attentive, funny -just an overall great server and person. She reminded me of my daughter. She did her job WELL!!! I'm need to know when she working next week so I can go back on her shift!!!! When we sat down we happened to sit at a table near the owner who overheard our conversation and sent a complimentary appetizer it was a collard green dip -which was good. The owner was very friendly and attentive also. She was interacting with the customers. I loved that. You have to get the bottomless mimosas. OMG!!! They have so many flavors and they were all Pretty tasty and our server Jada kept them coming!!!! We ordered the celestial eggs with bacon and then an order with shrimp. Both were tasty melt in your mouth. We got the shrimp and grits which I love to get. I'm on a shrimp and grits tour right now. But back to the subject at hand. The grits were sooooo good and the shrimp plump And juicy. Super flavorful. My brothers both got the catfish and grits with cheese. They both said it was phenomenal. We also got the peach cobbler waffle with the bourbon syrup BOMB. The restaurant is bright nice and clean. Perfect ambiance. So I'm already planning to go back soon and try some other things. We all Had a great experience overall. Hands down just some good food and excellent service. Question- Do you guys ever do an after dark opening ? Grits N Waffles gave me a meal that felt like home in the best possible way. I ordered the catfish with a side waffle, grits with bacon, and a lavender tea, and y'all... it tasted like my grandparents were in the kitchen. The catfish was perfectly fried -- crispy on the outside, tender on the inside -- the kind of fillet that makes you pause because it tastes like someone's grandmother seasoned it with love and experience. And that waffle? Light, fluffy, and just sweet enough. Truly felt like my grandfather's famous Sunday‑morning waffle made its way to LA. Stopped by Gritz N Wafflez today around noon with the ladies. We were seated quickly and felt welcomed right away. I ordered the BET breakfast plate with crunchy cinnamon toast, sweet grits, bacon, scrambled eggs with cheese, and coffee. Des also had the BET breakfast plate, but with savory grits, over-medium eggs, and bacon. BB went with the savory fried shrimp and grits. The food was really good across the board. The cinnamon toast was a standout -- perfectly crunchy and flavorful. The grits were done right, whether sweet or savory, and the bacon was exactly how bacon should be. Everything felt well-prepared and satisfying. Service was another highlight. Friendly, attentive, and efficient without feeling rushed. The only downside is parking. They do offer free valet, which I'd recommend using. Do not park in the nearby garage -- it's expensive, especially for a short visit. Overall, this place is absolutely worth every penny. If it were closer, we'd probably be here all the time. I'd definitely recommend it... just not to too many people -- I don't want it getting too busy for us. read more

My waffle was crispy, and the tenders were moist, the batter was crispy and well seasoned, generous portion (2 meals for me). It came with an aioli, hot sauce and syrup. It's authentic soul food as good as it can be. I have been to other famous chicken and waffle chains and their chicken was dry and the waffle was really not good. I would come back to Gritz N Wafflez to try their grits and fried catfish. Go support local minority owned businesses and give this restaurant a try. You will like it. read more
Saw Gritz N' Wafflez on TikTok during a quick LA trip, and it was a must I checked it out. It's located in Koreatown. We had a reservation and were seated immediately, which I really appreciated since the space is on the smaller side. Definitely recommend booking ahead because it gets packed. Chris was our server and he was incredibly sweet-spirited. Amazing service. I ordered the sautéed shrimp, scrambled eggs, vanilla waffle and bourbon syrup, and cheesy grits. Chris brought me their Cajun seasoning to top my grits with...GASSS. Those grits were done for. The waffle had perfectly crispy edges, and I love that they offer flavored syrups, different compotes, and butters. They also played R&B, so we were vibing & seeing along while we ate. It's a cozy, intimate setting. I felt like I was at a cousin's house or something. Great comfort food and great vibes. read more

Me and my son stopped by yesterday for the 1st time. Place was packed and a line out the door waiting for seating. Recommend reservations. The do provide 90 minute validation parking across the street on east side of the building. Space is pretty small why recommend reservations and service is not fast As food the food delicious. I ordered the catfish and cheese grits with bacon crumbs on top and side ocac n cheese. Son ordered cinnamon roll waffle with tenders due to them not having anymore wings which we ordered around 1pm. Myt son real liked his food and loved the Mac n cheese we shared. I will say the grits are probably the best grits I've ever had by a restaurant, super flavorful and right consistency. The also cooked that catfish right and taste fresh as well. Definitely recommend this spot in Koretown. read more

I love it here. The food is amazing. The staff is friendly and accommodating. I love the catfish or fried shrimp with my grits. I always choose a creamy sauce for my grits, right now the creole sauce is my favorite. The waffles are top tier, fluffy, light and just the right kind of sweet. As a Black American, I love having top tier comfort food IN COMFORT. Everyone is welcomed here, you don't feel like an outsider. You are treated with respect. An overall amazing experience enjoying a wonderful meal with friends and family. I will wait 15-30 mins (depending on holiday or crowd) every single time! read more

Food was fresh and hot! Also very very delicious! Service was great too! Parking though idk. It says valet parking but i did not see any valet. So maybe make it more obvious where that is on the weekend. Parking in the lot was close to $20 I think. So yea other than that I thoroughly enjoyed it! I came here for Sunday brunch with a few friends. We made a reservation which is recommended because the place is not that big so it can fill up quickly. There is no designated parking lot so you'll need to find street parking. The service here is really great, the owner came out to check on us and multiple people besides our waiter checked to see how we were enjoying our food. The owner also gave our table a special serenade, but please be honest about when it is your birthday lol. I had the fried fish with grits. Maybe I'm greedy, I expected two fillets lol. The food was AhhhhMAZZZING!!! I had the carmel waffle and fried chicken wings and the fried cheesy gritz!!! The berry lemonade was the best I ever had! The service was top notch and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was the nicest person!!! The ambiance is soooo LA, chill vibe and good music! Service was great ! Waiter was super nice and had a great personality (he had a grill at the bottom).... the wait wasn't long and our food came out in a timely fashion . Mimosas came out first . The food was absolutely amazing! I am so proud of the establishment. I love the batter on the catfish, and it was a huge piece, they gave you a huge bowl of grits and they let you make it your way whether you want a cheesy, sweet, or plain. The macaroni and cheese was flavored and the greens were cooked well. I got the vanilla bean waffle with a vanilla bean butter and it was absolutely delicious and a mix of fluffy and crispy. The collard greens dip and chips was so creative and yummy. It kind of reminds me of a spinach Artichoke dip. Also, the chips were homemade and fried just delicious. Never had a dish like that and I was impressed. The only thing was of course it was packed and overbooked. Had to wait about 25 minutes even after making a reservation, but they were also a couple other groups there waiting. Our server was amazing, however, and kept checking on us. They have seven different flavor of mimosas. A peach, cranberry, lavender lemonade, orange, mixed berry. I got the lavender lemonade mimosa, but was sad. It wasn't purple. And it honestly just tasted like Champagne.. The peach mimosa was delicious but again they missed a moment of making it orange because it's just the peach syrup. The mixed berry had actual chopped up strawberry and blackberry in it and that one was red so that was good. I went on a date and I spent about $155. I Uber there and I recommend you guys doing the same but there is limited metered street parking or paid lot parking. read more
First time trying GNW and I get the hype! Wished I could have dined in because it's such a lovely restaurant with a positive vibe. 10 min drive home and everything was still hot. Well-packaged and you can tell they actually care about how the food travels. Food was absolutely fire. Even to go the waffle was still crisp. This place did not disappoint! I saw social media sponsored posts about this spot and the hype is REAL! The food choices were plenty and it was great to see vegan and gluten free options in the menu for those who are looking for it. My husband got the breakfast meal that was with French toast, egg white and beef bacon. Yes, I said BEEF bacon. He enjoyed his meal I had to chicken tenders n waffles. The waffles were fluffy and light. It was so good. We were impressed with our server who had alot of tables to attend to but was great making sure that we're were attended to. The restaurant was loud. We had lean in a couple of times to hear each other but this was a great choice for what we were looking for for brunch! read more

Listen to me carefully: NOT EVERYONE MAKES GREAT FRIED CATFISH! But GRITZ N WAFFLES DEFINITELY DOES!! This FRIED CATFISH tastes like someone's grandmother straight out the South is in the kitchen frying it up. crispy, seasoned, and absolutely DELICIOUS. I'm usually not even a fan of shrimp & gritz, but this one right here? Man... it SMACKS so hard I'm addicted. Honestly, everything on the menu is fire, you can't miss. My friend and I had brunch here today! The restaurant is located on the far-ish end of the Wilshire at Vermont complex. The Wilshire/Vermont Metro stop is downstairs (after walking through the inner plaza), and there is public parking (the entrance is on Shatto Place). The staff was so nice, and the 90s/2000s R&B music was the PERFECT vibe. We both chose the Southern fried catfish. How could we not? Plus grits, because YES please. Our server recommended the cheese gritz and the perfect savory hot sauce, and MMM. My plate was delicious. I could've licked the grits bowl clean, it was so good, but fortunately I have class :P Haha Also, the place got busy quick! By the time we left, there were people outside waiting to be seated. Find parking on the street most is 1 hr meters so be mindful and set an alarm. What a vibe! Great friendly welcoming staff Great food We sat at the counter, looked over the menu and saw they have catfish but watching the food come out i saw the tenders and had to get that so i ordered their wafle upgraded it to a peach cobbler and tried their dark meat tenders FIRE! These were top tier not too much breading real light and great quality of dark meat. However the wafle itself came out soggy not crispy at all maybe i should've asked for the peach cobbler on the side . The peach didnt have that much flavor to them kind of reminded me of canned peaches. My friend also ordered the celestial eggs which was FIRE! Never had anything like them crispy and still had that deviled egg texture and flavor to them. I forgot to take pics of these but they come out exactly how they look on their menu and screen from inside. Overall the staff was great the food good read more
