My friend and I were trying to figure out a place to grab a quick lunch and day drink at. I did a google search for best margaritas on the north side and noticed Flaco's on the top 10 list! I Have been to the location on Chicago ave near Water Tower a few times for the taco Tuesday specials and had mixed experiences depending on the day. This was my first time going to this location. We arrived at 12:00 and were pleasantly surprised that the restaurant wasn't that crowded, not much of a lunch rush. It's kind of a smaller joint so that wouldn't have been great if it was packed. This is not a restaurant with wait service. It's very no frills. Look at the menu, order what you want , pay at the counter, take a number for the table so the food runner knows where to go. My friend is a vegetarian and she had a few solid options, a vegan taco and quesadilla, opting for the vegan taco. would have been nice to have more options for herbivores, tho. I got the chicken taco and we ordered some chips and salsa for the table. We each got margaritas. We were in luck because margs are only 3 dollars on Mondays with an additional 50 cent charge if you order a flavored one. What a deal! Seems like all margaritas are served frozen which didn't bother me because that's my preference, but this is also something to keep in mind since a lot of people like it on the rocks. I had a mango and the monthly special which was a cranberry while my friend ordered the original. The margaritas were very STRONG, but not overbearing. It was a great deal and I would honestly return just to have a few drinks and chill. The salsa was alright, typical, nothing to write home about, but gets the job done. My friend was happy with her vegan taco but my chicken taco was just so-so, no real complaints, it just wasn't my favorite, maybe it was the seasoning? But with that being said, the tortillas and toppings were fresh and the chicken was thoroughly cooked, so no real issues. Next time I'd like to try the quesadilla, you can't go wrong with those. They also have specials on Sangria on Wednesday's, would love to try that as well. Overall a very nice addition to the neighborhood and I'll def be going back. read more

Wow. It is hard to find a genuinely bad taco in Chicago. I have had worse "Mexican themed" food. But it's really rare. And they seem to have managed to double down by making it stupidly expensive too. I would probably enjoy the little patio under the train if the weather was good. Find any place else. This place is a find! I went there this week and enjoyed live music while having some great food. I ordered the barbacoa taco and the fish taco. The barbacoa was delicious, although the fish was a little tasteless. I also got their mango margarita which was super yummy. I really liked this place when it first opened up, but the past three times I had their food it was bland and cold. I had it twice delivered and once ate in. They messed up my order, I ordered chicken quesadillas and all I received was tortillas with minimal cheese slapped in it. I understand that it gets busy and you make a mistake but this happened multiple times. Their service and food quality has dropped significantly. My last order had a sharp piece of bone in the beef, I'm glad I noticed it before I took a bite. Word for the wise just don't go. I can tell the place is under new management (which has been nothing but positive vibes). I've been here over 10 times since I moved to Edgewater. We came on their first truly open day. We had beef, pork, and chicken tacos. We also sampled the tamales (a favorite of ours). Taste of everything seemed good, though we were disappointed: no margaritas on the rocks (slushy machine). The NEXT day... we both felt strange. I decided to try to shake it off with a workout but when I got back home after being unable to finish, I found my fiancé post-vomiting and then I wasn't long to follow. Fiancé vomited again later. We spent the next day and a half sick and running a fever with severe GI distress. Same for a friend of mine. I don't want to point the finger, but we got sick on the same timeline. I want this business to succeed but they might need to examine a few of their kitchen practices just to be sure. It will be great for the neighborhood to have a popular business around! read more

Finally made a yelp to give flacos a review! Ive been going to Flaco's ever since they had open since it's only a few blocks from Loyola. The taco for taco Tuesday was super good even though they were the smaller tacos. But who wouldn't get a taco for a $1? I also tried the Boys in the Blue Marg. It was kinda strong for my taste and little expensive but worth the try. What I thought was weird about Flaco's is that I noticed they removed the tip jar. I always tipped because I know how working in the customer service industry is. The cashier didn't really give me to an answer why and you can't put it on the receipts either. I left the tip on the counter but it made me think flacos isn't probably a friendly work place for removing the tip jar after so long. read more

I hate to leave a bad review because the place is cute and the service is great but the tacos need work. I ordered a sangria, two steak tacos and an elote. The sangria was yummy! The elote was good as well. But the meat on the steak tacos were over cooked and so salty that I couldn't even eat them. Hello, my name is Eric Cartman and I am brand new to Chicago and Flaco's Tacos was one of the first mexican restaurants I visited while being in Chicago. Upon my first time entering the restaurant I was reminded of the dungeon I used to be kept at but as I visited the restaurant more and more I was reminded of the rendezvous point that I was told to meet at when I was being rescued from said dungeon mentioned before. In terms of the food it was great it was a refreshing change from the toenails and barnacles I was fed every day. Overall this is a great spot and I can't recommend it enough. First time trying Flaco's and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Although I made my order through doordash, the restaurant forgot an entire entree from the order. I called the store to see what could be done about the missing food item and was told to contact doordash for a refund (obviously), but doordash was not responsible for bagging the order....she proceeded to tell me that my only option was to reorder the item and wait another 30 minutes. Aside from the missing entree, I ordered the $65 gallon of margaritas to go and it tastes like it came from a urinal. The BEST tacos I've ever tried! Same taste and QUALITY as my home country MEXICO! The manager GENARO was SO GREAT, GENTLE and SO COOL! He always ask if everything is Ok and he offered us even desserts for FREE! The tostadas I ate were EXCELLENT! and the MARGS were SUPER! My boyfriend from EGYPT and I, really ENJOYED the FOOD, atmosphere, confort and cozy design they have where you can feel a taste from MEXICO as well. We received a BOGO flier in the mail and figured we would give it a try. We were sorry. The service was fine- friendly, efficient. The food was abysmal. The chips were sodden with oil and only tasted like oil. The guacamole was watery and almost separated in texture. The chicken burrito was loosely wrapped and had all ingredients in separate spots resulting in a bite of only lettuce, only beans, etc. The sides of rice and beans were flavorless and room temperature. The fish tacos were so aggressively fishy that there may have been something wrong with them aside from their existence. I threw the plate out immediately upon smelling it.
