The super fresh, homemade guacamole is divine. I have been dining under the Red Line since moving to Edgewater about 3 years ago. The taco's are a bit Americanized but way delicious. All ingredients are super fresh. The prices are reasonable. The service staff are friendly and always helpful. The restaurant is always clean. I prefer dining on the outdoor patio despite the thunder of the L trains passing overhead every 7 minutes. The ice cream shop is an added treat, tho sadly was not able to open this season. read more

I have a weird relationship with this location. My husband loves it (he only orders the nachos every time) so we go a lot, and every. single. time. we've gone, my order has been incorrect or different. I ordered a side of rice and beans and received black beans; I asked for the month's special margarita and the desk staff had no clue what I was talking about; they had chilaquiles on the menu online and when I showed up, they said that wasn't true; when I ordered the salad, once it came with rice and salad dressing, and the next time, charged extra for rice when I asked and no salad dressing (this isn't even the complete list and it's almost gotten comical). The margaritas were very tart when we went last week, when they're usually great. I want to love it here since it's in my neighborhood, but maybe because of the location, consistency isn't possible because of the very high traffic from Loyola students? I am not the person that usually writes reviews bad reviews on yelp. But I feel like this was the worst first experience I could have had at Flaco's Tacos. I had this interaction of unprofessionalism by a person named jasmine if that is even her name. I was there in morning with a friend having lunch and when I walked in with my friend she didn't even welcomed us, she was the only person in the front of register. I greeted her and asked for a table of 4 since we have two other people joining us. She looked bothered and ignored by what I said and told me I have to seat myself. I was confused and asked how are we suppose to order or food then. It seemed she rolled her eyes at us and just pointed at the menus. I gabbed menus and sat down for a while thinking she was going to come take our order. But she never came. So after about 15 minutes I went over and asked her if she was going to take our order. she kept being rude and told me that I have to order up front then I get a number. This whole time she could have greeted me from the beginning and I could have told her it was my first time at flacos tacos . But instead she didn't bother at all, she just had the attitude of not wanting to be there . There is nothing difficult of making sure you provide good customer service. So we had a chance to dine at Flacco Taco last week. As we entered the restaurant we did not get a warm greeting...just a cold stare from the young lady with the scarf wrapped around her head. As we sat around the counter i had to initiate the "welcome to flacco taco", "is this your first time here". Since she (the young girl at the register staring me down) did not asked if we need time to order she just stood there looking crazy. I REALLY wanted tacos that day because i still placed my order for three tacos and one burrito a glass of sangria and a soda. Great experience. Had an issue where I payed before my girlfriend could get to me, to use some coupon she had. A guy name RC didn't skip a beat an helped us out. So we were able to apply it to our order. Was my first time here.... as someone who's worked in restaraunts the customer service left a good impression. They just didn't seem bitter like many customer service people. I ordered the green chicken pozole and it was good, very flavorful but tasted a little watered down. So once I added 2 cups of the green salsa that they threw in the bag, it just tasted wonderful!! I like my pozole flavorful and spicy. The pozole also had a lot of chicken which is a plus!! The tamal oxacaño was moist and tasted like authentic banana leaf in every bite; it was not an overpowering taste because the chicken was good. Again, a lot of chicken. I also ordered the 6 inch quesadilla with al pastor and it had a very bland taste, but the red salsa resurrected the al pastor flavor. All in all, I will order again. I am so sad and disappointed! I was so excited for Flaco's to open here; we need a decent Mexican place around here (Looking at you L'Patron). I tried their Chicago Ave. location when I went to Loyola, a few years ago and I had thought the food was pretty decent. I hyped my spouse up for this because anything has to be better that Susupato down the street. Man, was I wrong. I tried the fish taco, ancho chicken (what a joke), and the buffalo chicken $1 taco. All I can say is bland, bland, bland!!! I am possibly the whitest person in Edgewater and I could make more flavorful and spicy tacos than this place. Where was the ancho flavor?? There is NO WAY anything ancho or even black pepper, for that matter, was in this food. All three tacos were boring and the corn tortillas were dry and even blander. My husband got the carne asada burrito. Again, there is no way this meat was marinaded. It's utterly impossible. I felt like I got "Mexican" and Old Country Buffet. We went the second day they were open and I hope something was just off, because Taco Bell is sounding pretty great right now. :( These prices were also very stupid for food this tasteless. Such a shame. Beware of fancy decor and no good smells coming from the kitchen. I'm not a drinker, so maybe that's the draw for this place. Good luck. Just had their Sunday special, chilaquiles verde. Very tasty, comparable to my current fave served a couple blocks down Broadway at Mas Alla del Sol. Cons: Thought it was funny, tortillas listed as "Gluten free" dude, corn is gluten free, no need to try so hard. These are tortillas from El Milagros, they are about 50 cents per dozen, the cheapest tortillas you can buy. Pros: I thought the al pastor and steak was pretty good, great job. I'm a bit surprised at some of the negative reviews here. My first-time experience was good. They have different specials for every night of the week. My friend and I stopped in on $1 taco night. This one applies only to the "Taco of the Week", which was a chicken taco with spicy mayo. It was pretty good, and a great deal for a buck. I also tried the Cowboy Taco and it was quite flavorful. It's a steak taco with guacamole, corn, and caramelized onion for a little bit of sweetness, and I'd definitely order it again. My friend enjoyed her fish tacos too. All of our foods were cold and it look like their product, meats etc all came from costco. They gave us salsa in a bottle to squeeze onto our chips, so we just took some ice cream cup caps off the shelve and use that for dipping the chips. As a mostly vegetarian, I was a little disappointed by the options without meat, partly because they were all super spicy. On the other hand, the beans and rice (sides) were really bland, leaving me feeling like most of the flavors here are from onion and hot pepper. Have also had tacos and burrito, including the chicken and beef (ie, mostly veggie but will splurge when veggie options aren't great), but found the same thing. My kid is in love with the quesadilla, which has really tasty cheese. And, Gordo's is fantastic. Come on Flaco's! Want to love you. Want to come here all the time and support the business. Because it's a special offer? What does that have to do with anything? So your kitchen will be able to handle it. You limit the online orders? Wt? What if someone placed a huge order on any of your special offer days? Would you not accept the order? Yea you most likely would. Since i'll bet you've gotten huge orders before and filled them. I've ordered daily specials from other places online or over the phone. With no problems. If it's a dine in only special. Then just say that. Put it on the website. It's that simple.
