I will say that over time, Flaco's has gotten better. When I first started coming here when it opened I was not impressed. The staff were rude for the most part but now it appears that they've got their rhythm and flow going. Their food has improved in my opinion, and I very much like that they now offer bowls I find that the amount of food they give you is great. I wish they had their elotes all year long, but unfortunately they don't :( I am really impressed with how this business has continued during COVID. Excellent service, delicious fresh made to order food and the best chips in the neighborhood. Located under the Red Line the location is convenient and service is fast. I have had 3 terrible experiences with neighborhood restaurants during COVID due to lax or nonexistent use of masks, and unsanitary food prep or delivery but Flaco's is setting the bar for service, quality of food, safety and customer service. I lived right by the Granville station, and this was definitely one of my go-to spots for eating, as a Loyola student. It's a nice place to get a meal to-go and also just for a casual dining spot with friends that is nearby. The food is really authentic--better than Chipotle. Some of my favorites here are the Vegan Burrito and the Chicken Tacos! Their salsas that come with everything are really yummy too. They have specials going on each day that offer discounts on various menu items so make sure to take advantage of those! People are always nice. There isn't a TON of seating so it can get very cramped depending on what time of day you are dining here. It's a nice comfortable atmosphere overall and really works well with a student's wallet!! read more

The service can be reeeeaaaally spotty. I have been several different times and it has always been a different experience each time. One time always had servers bouncing around all friendly like making sure we were happy and comfy. Another time a server legitimately left our drinks on a separate table and told us we had to get them ourselves. We were in a large group and I guess she assumed, wrongly, we weren't going to tip well. It was a confusing night that ended up with a bit of name calling (server to me and my friends) that ended up with either the owner/manager coming to talk us through it all and apologized. I frequent this place but I always know not to be too hopeful for a great server experience. The food is always good and the drinks strong. Also very quick service and turn over, clean location and fun atmosphere. OH! Almost forgot! The cold pop! Ice cream pops? Cold desserts? Whatever they are- SO YUMMY! I had been waiting for a while seeing those coolers put in for them to open up for business and I was not disappointed. Rogers Park does have a huge variety of dessert options, in my sweet tooth opinion, so I was so excited to try it. If I have my way I will try every flavor by the end of the year. read more

I've been coming to all locations for over a decade and I'm just thankful it's been just greatness each time. I had one issue one time in all this time and it was handled and rectified with pure love and genuine concern. And that was years ago. So I'm just glad that they continue being successful. I've had practically all on the menu and no complaints at all. I live for Margarita Monday, Taco Tuesday and 2 dollars beers on Sunday (I think, it's always a daily special), and just eager to see how many more locations are going to open up. I used to frequent the Dearborn location and the food was ALWAYS amazing but today was a disappointment. I had three tacos (lime steak, al pastor and chicken) and expected some great flavors. Sadly, there was one small scoop of meat lost in two huge tortillas. Btw, doubling up tortillas is only useful if there's actually meat in the taco. The steak and al pastor meat was mostly gristle so those tacos were a fail! There was no flavor whatsoever in any of the tacos and the only savior was the green salsa. Maybe the food is now catering to the ton of Loyola students or the edgewater neighbors but this was not a great experience. :-( read more

I love having this place across the street from me. There are definitely more authentic feeling Mexican spots in the neighborhood, but I'm addicted to the street corn tacos (chicken included). They also do have a great frozen margarita, which is not too sweet and a great deal. If you like sweeter I recommend adding one of many flavors. Hello internet. Flaco's has the (and I cannot stress this enough) BEST tacos available in Chicago. If you get tacos from anywhere else, you are wrong. They have a student discount, which is, frankly, a lifesaver, as I am broke (because I spend all of my money on Flaco's Tacos). The Al Pastor taco combo is my go to order, but their nachos are also superb. If you haven't had the horchata, you're making a grave mistake. I do not understand why Flaco's has a three star overall rating, except perhaps because it is located under the Red Line. If that bothers you... get it to-go. Very happy that this location has opened! For non-greasy Mexican food, this really good. Delivery is fast and filling. I would suggest a switch to SHREDDED lettuce though. We have been disappointed every time we have ordered from Flaco's Tacos. Yesterday, our order was wrong. Last time, our food was cold when we picked it up, even though we arrived earlier than we scheduled the order. Their best item, the burrito suiza (wet burrito) has disappeared from the menu. Super disappointing. Their homemade chips are super greasy and thick, and they skimp on the guacamole, so don't order the pricey chips and guac! This by far is the most bland pedantic Mexican food I have ever had and I'm saying this boldly - in my life. It is so underwhelming; the lack of flavor lack of visual interest and lack of heat our food was lukewarm at best. I should have thought twice once I tried at the Horchata and it was like a syrup that was also awful. I have been coming here for 6 years, moved all over the place but still ALWAYS made it a point to visit Flaco's. I recently moved back in the area and I've been more times than I'd like to admit. The specials are incredible and they always find a way to draw in different people with different tastes. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating; sometimes I swear I come by just for the kind people and laughs. The cashier, who also claimed to be the manager, denied my Illinois government issued drivers license because she had "never seen one like it before". She claimed to have been "doing this for years" but clearly has no training. Illinois has new IDs. The new IDs do look differently than the old ones, however, as someone who is responsible for approving or denying a customers order due to being underaged... She should know what all Illinois IDs look like. It was extremely embarrassing and she was rude about the whole situation. The fact that she used my non- photo employee ID as verification that my ID is really also foolish. The food is also extremely mediocre. They burnt my tortilla for my burrito and my best friend complained that her tortillas were too hard for her tacos. Very disappointing. I ordered two tacos, chicken and pork. The meat was cubed and chunky, similar to can grade meat. My tacos came with rice and beans and I asked for no beans and to double portion my rice. That didn't happen. They just gave me one serving of rice. Not only that but the rice didn't come hot and fresh, more like it was sitting out all morning. Last but not least I ordered chips and salsa. The chips weren't bad but the salsa they gave me were the ones that come in the squeezy tubes that they have to use for free. Why would I PAY for salsa that comes in the squeezy tubes when I can just get it for free? Not only that, but the 'salsa' had no spice or taste. It was watered down and was not good at all. I really thought that this place was going to be great. The day it opened the line was ridiculous..... I went a few days later in the afternoon. It wasn't crowded so i did not wait a long time for my food. Sadly, the inside already smells like old grease.....only the patio door was propped open. They should also prop the front door open for cross ventilation. It would really help with the smell. Also, super disappointed with my burrito. A burrito is so basic, i don't understand why it was gross. So just a quick update from my initial review when they first opened. This morning I decided, "Ok, a month is a long enough time for them to get their act together and make some changes..." Was going to grab a few tacos for lunch. Well I decided to look at the reviews and it still seems as if my initial review is still valid, flavorless, bland and over priced. I also read some of the comment from Genaro V over the past month and he apologizes for the food and shoddy service but apparently the food still is not good.... when you hear over and over and over of the blandness of your food, maybe it is time to buy some salt or something to make it taste better. Flaco's is great, and a huge part of our experience is due to the attentive and awesome staff. At Flaco's, you order at the counter, take your number to your table, and an employee will bring out your food when it's done. However, the staff went above and beyond checking in on us throughout our meal, bringing us extra salsa, and even taking a second drink order for us. The employees were wonderful, and really helped make this an even better experience. We ordered chips and guac, tacos, and sangria to start (it was "Thirsty Thursday," so it was $3 glasses of sangria). The sangria was pretty good - red, not too sweet (which is my preference), and served with fresh fruit. Flaco's has great daily deals, including Margarita Monday (can't wait to try!), Taco Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Fantastico Friday and Sangrita Saturday - margaritas "floated" with sangria. Even if you don't make it to Flaco's on a deal day, their prices are pretty fantastic - for example, a standard margarita is less than $6. Not too shabby, eh? For tacos , I ordered two ancho chicken tacos and one al pastor. The chicken was AMAZING - it was marinated in an ancho chili salsa and tasted fresh and flavorful. The al pastor was served with onion and pineapple. Absolutely wonderful. All tacos were served with a generous portion of cilantro and cheese. Perhaps not the most authentic, but delicious beyond a doubt. I can't wait to head back to try the other tacos on their menu, including the ground beef "picadillo" and grilled steak tacos. read more

Great little place to grab a bite to eat after a day at the beach! I've gotten the tacos and a burrito here before and all were very good.
