I live right down the street from this place so it's really convenient for me . That being said I have to honestly say that I prefer eating at Chipotle. I've order tacos here before and they aren't anything special. Tonight I thought I'd try something different and ordered the Flaco Bowl. I ordered steak was very uninspiring. I could immediately tell that they are using cheaper cuts of meat evident by the amount of gristle. The quality of beef at Chipotle is much better. Another much better alternative to Flaco's is Spanglish on State & Harrison. read more

Was looking forward to trying this place for awhile, this place packed during the Lit Fest. Sadly it was an unimpressive experience. I tried the combo tres, 3 items with rice and beans for $11. I ordered 2 mini-burritos - 1 Al Pastor and 1 lime-grilled steak, and a fish taco. The regular price of a mini-burrito is $2.95 and I thought it would be at least a third of a full burrito, I wish I was that lucky! Those suckers are TINY! Maybe 2 bites, I honestly laughed when I saw them. The Al Pastor had good flavor but I couldn't really taste much besides the tortilla on the steak one. The fish taco was just ok, not much flavor there either. The rice and beans were just standard, I didn't eat much of those and walked out still hungry. I have no problem paying for food but I'm kinda used to getting more than a bite when I order a plate. I shoulda listened to the reviews on this one, I won't go back. read more

Ordered the veggie burrito and asked for guacamole. The burrito had no flavor, too much cheese, and no guacamole that I had paid extra for. Plus, the last time I dined in, they forgot my friend's order. I probably won't go back again, only went today because it's down the street. read more

Food took a while (20 minutes for 8 tacos) but was pretty good. Slightly overpriced. They messed up our order and put onions on two tacos where we did not want them and they were melted in with the cheese so that kind of ruined those two. Willing to go back. read more

Love Flaco's! I always get the Steak Quesadillas, not a big fan of their Spanish rice but the service and environment is great!

We catered from Flaco's tacos for 2 parties now and they do an awesome job! Both times we ordered the taco bar, food is outstanding and it's super reasonable. They come in and set everything up with sternos and all the food is labeled. It's fresh and there is plenty of food. Also, everyone at Flaco's is super helpful. If you have a large party, you should call Flaco's for catering! read more

I usually get the steak tacos with cilantro and onion and never really had an issue. It isn't the best but it's good enough to satisfy my craving and they are fast and the prices are good. I was disappointed in their Guacamole and chips, the Guacamole was old and the chips were so greasy I couldn't even eat more than a few. A lot of kids in the dorms love Flacos. It's less than 50 yards away and is open late, so after those nights of drinking crappy beer and pretending we're really cool for being art students, it's typical to end up here when we want something to eat. I don't usually order, but when I do, the food is just so-so. It's closer than Chipotle, and I can't seem to find a shady Mexican food joint around here. So when I want a burrito in a fix, I'll just mosey on over to Flaco's for a mediocre meal at a decent price. read more

Had Flaco's delivered last night and was pretty impressed. Since it was mexican delivery, I had lowered expectations a bit but nother was soggy. I ordered the Al Pastor burrito, two chicken tacos and a side of chips/guac. The burrito was huge and full of meat. The al pastor tasted a little more like Chile Colorado than the off-the-bbq-spit type but it was still quite nice. Defintely a different recipe than I am use to but still really nice. The burrito itself was massive. Chips are great/plentiful but I thought the guac was a bit bland. Could use some spice and salt. Chicken tacos were good. I did not expect cheese which was a nice addition. The meal also came with a couple of different hot sauces. All in all it was a really great meal. I will definetly order again. read more

Overpriced and not very good...I've been here twice, both times ordering a steak burrito. The first time I asked for certain toppings and it only came with lettuce. The second time, I asked for guac on it (which was extra) and they failed to include it along with the pico de gallo i asked for. The food is not very good to begin with. The steak is cooked to a shoe and it lacks flavor. I would take chipotle or qdoba (not to mention some hole in the wall mexican joints) over flaco's any day. I decided to give it a second chance, but they failed again. I honestly think they may just be f*cking with their customers. They have lost my business forever. read more

I popped into Flaco's one time because it's on my way home from work and I always drove by. It is one of my absolute favorite places to eat now. The enchilada special on Saturdays is amazing, especially on the rare occasion they have the mole sauce. All the food is reliably fresh and delicious! The desserts are also amazing. I eat here regularly because I live in the neighborhood. Nothing here is "gourmet," but the tacos, burritos and tortas make a perfectly good weeknight dinner on the cheap. I like the tamarind agua fresca. I wish that the burritos here (and most places in Chicago) included something other than meat... maybe some rice or beans? read more

Always busy and rightfully so. They are fast, capably staffed, and serve dishes with fresh ingredients. Their vegetarian burrito is a favorite of mine. Plus they have a huge selection of desserts sitting under glass at the counter for all you impulse gorgers. Yum!! read more

Pros: I think the picadillo's pretty great, never dry, and the quesadillas are good. They serve booze and have a mini-patio. There's usually a vegan dessert available, if that's your thing. Cons: The mini-patio is super tiny, and right next to the bus stop. The horchata is small. The nachos are pricy for what you get, and the chips are always too hard and oily for my taste. I find the asada bland, though my dining companion always enjoys it. For some reason, the people working the registers constantly seem crabby. Undecideds: The fish tacos might be okay, but my mouth is too much of a wuss for the spiciness of it. Same thing goes for the pozole. There is street parking available, but it's hit or miss and expensive. tl;dr: Meh. Not coming here if I get to pick where to eat. read more

Their frozen margaritas are outstanding. The food is nothing special, but if you are hungry and want some Mexican food without breaking the bank, this is your spot. Having said that, their cupcakes are amazing. Who would have thought it? In the summer, this spot is great to go and eat and drink outside in their little patio. read more

There are a lot of great Mexican dining options in Chicago so Flaco's Tacos is in a highly competitive space. Still, Flaco's manages to deliver consistently decent tacos and at a very fair price. The chicken tends to be dry but all other tacos are quite good. The daily specials are usually an exceptional deal. I've gone in a few times with full intention on getting my standard taco variety pack but walked out with what had been posted as the daily special. They have some nice deserts by the cash register that are worth a second look as well. The Printer's Row location tends to be frequented by students taking advantage of the generous drink specials but everything remains low key. It's conveniently located at the end of Dearborn St bike path and has a few tables on the sidewalk making for a really nice casual spot to ride over to in the summer. read more

This place used to be better 3-4 years ago, it seems the way they are trying to expand as a business has made it worse. The meat doesn't always stay consistent and even when ordering there traditional burrito I have to explain to the employee what it is, because they don't remember. Maybe I'm slightly old school but it seems that the cooks have changed from before also. read more

My boyfriend and I found this place across the street from where we stayed on our summer vacation here in Chicago, and we loved it. The food was amazing that we ate twice at this place. Update 7/14/15: Still good, service seems to have gotten a lot slower lately. They also seem to have cranked up the volume on their music system to an absurd level.. to the point where I could barely place an order... which has been the case the past few times I've visited. Nevertheless, still good food despite a few shortcomings. -- I live in the same building that Flaco's is in, so I'm here pretty often when I'm in the mood for Mexican food. Food is always great, and the service is pretty friendly. I highly recommend the Pozole Verde soup, it's an excellent choice for cold Chicago winter days. read more

I get to eat here 2-3 times a year and each time I'm never disappointed. Started out with guacamole and chips and was impressed! The steak taco was tender and perfectly spiced. My favorite. I had seen other comments on here about them, so I went into it being a critic. I also had a "cowboy taco" which was fine, but my least favorite. The chicken taco was great. We just visited for the first time as we live around the corner. Sadly, we won't be returning anytime soon as the service was pretty bad. We ordered a burrito and three tacos (meat and cheese only on tacos). We reiterated only meat and cheese just in case as it is a small place and noisy. The tacos came out first, but unfortunately they had beans on them. We understand that mistakes can happen and it is a quick fix so my boyfriend went up to let them know of the error. After letting them know, the cashier/server lady responded, "You ordered beans". My boyfriend let her know that he doesn't like beans so he wouldn't have said that and asked if he could get them remade. We were waiting for the tacos when we noticed that a few new people were served their meals so he went back to inquire about his tacos and the lady acted shocked he didn't get his yet. They finally came out, the lady apologized and said she told the cook five times to remake them, but he ignored her so she had to do it herself. We waited a total of 30 minutes for his new tacos and my burrito was cold at the end as I was waiting to eat with him. The first time our food came out in less than ten minutes and when we returned the tacos it was less busy so it should've been a quick turnaround. I get things can happen, but to argue that the customer ordered wrong, take 30 minutes for just meat and cheese tacos and have to remind them we haven received them yet isn't acceptable. read more

Im getting food there twice a month and everything is great. This time it wasnt busy. Many people ordered after me and got their food, while nothing for me. I asked couple times they said its being packed, then server asked me when did i order and i said almost half an hour ago. He went back there got new bag and started packing my food. Ordered food at 8:42pm, picked up at 9:10pm, almost half an hour after. Working staff upfront is nice, but do not really know what happened in the back and never was explained. read more
