Went here on a Thursday afternoon and it was really busy. I got the fish tacos and rice and beans. The sides were good, and the tacos are OK. I didn't know they'd be tilapia, and probably wouldn't have gotten it if I'd had known. The margaritas are really good though. I would only return for that alone. read more

We wanted FT to so be our go-to place but unfortunately it just doesn't seem to work out that way. Last night was our third attempt and it was the worst of all three. I will say, the first time was great so we looked forward to coming back. However, the second time was through a GrubHub order that got jacked up, and that's where I will begin. Only 1/2 of our order from GrubHub was delivered. At first I suspected the delivery person forgot an additional bag or something. Regardless, I called FT because ultimately I could go pick up the rest of the order. At first, the person on the phone said it was GrubHub's fault and was going to leave it at that. I pressed for a little more investigation so I could fully understand why it was GH's fault as I knew it would be a battle royale with them pointing a finger back at FT. After a lengthy hold time, they returned with apology that the person who entered the order at FT from GH messed the order up. They refunded me for the missing items, which is fine. Last night, there were 9 customers total including the 2 of us. Of that, 6 already had their order and were eating. We ordered chips and queso (provided immediately), 2 sangrias, and 2 of the daily specials. When we dug into queso, it was a TBT for sure! It was remarkably reminiscent of the canned nacho cheese you get at high school football game concession stands. If that's your sort of thing, go for it. However, the worst of it was that while we ate the chips, a guy who ordered after us got his food before us. As I said, we had 1 order each of the daily special: 3 mini burritos but they were no where to be found and after folks got their food who ordered after us, we were getting a little miffed. In the end it took 25 minutes to get our food...somewhat warm but definitely not delicious. For $39, I expected way more for our money. read more

Vegan Tamales are SO hard to come by and so, I was so excited to see that Flacos Tacos has them! They were exactly what I was craving and with the salsas and toppings, delicious. I also got a Vegan Taco - that was good, but not as good as the Tamale. I think having only veggies instead of say, vegan meat substitute, made it a little light and not filling. But still really tasty! I came before covid quarantines and thought that the inside ambiance wasn't great and it was a little small. But really fast service, good prices, and delicious food. Finally checked out my neighborhood taco joint! Tried the Tuesday Taco of the Day ($1 - limit 4), an Al Pastor, a Mexican Coke, and chips & salsa. The tortillas were soft and elastic, which I loved. The meats were seasoned and tasty. The chips were fresh from the fryer and salted well. Nice and thick. The salsa was disappointing. It was more of a sauce than salsa. Reasonable prices. Tight space, so you may have to wait for a seat. That's not a deterrent when you have good food. The pozole was much salty and I was unable to finish the soup (4 spoonfuls was enough for me to stop).. That's unfortunate as it was a cold day. My backup was a tamale; however it was unusually small. I came in hungry and left hungry. It's a shame, I spent 9 dollars. Had I ordered in, I would have returned the pozole. I was highly disappointed in the service not to mention they got my order wrong the first time and when I said I wanted my food I ordered and not what they charged me for they said they couldn't do that because they didn't have the authority. So instead of getting the fish taco I ordered they charged me for horchata which they also didn't give me. Overall this place does not have good customer service - Kayla and Toti who were working were rude and not helpful at all and they didn't even know where their manager was or what to do in this situation. Then after everything said the girl threw up her hands and said she would make the taco but it would be up to 10 min waiting for it. Went in hoping that the fish in fish tacos were deep fried.. But it was grilled or pan fried :/ its okay,it was still very delicious! I believe thats the only option for seafood tacos? Saw some good and some not good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. my friend is a VEGAN and i am not, so we did get to review two different aspects of the establishment. Hers: multiple vegan friendly dishes ( all surprisingly cheap and very filling). She had the vegan taco and vegan burrito, couldn't finish the burrito ($6.95) but did devour the taco ($2-3?). She likes the taco slightly more! but the burrito was huge. My review: I had "two" small chicken and cheese quesadillas. One would have filled me! also an interesting sauce on the side i recommend trying. FREE REFILL HORCHATA? love it! overall great food and atmosphere at an acceptable price. Let me start this review by saying how happy we initially were with Flaco's. We recently moved to the area and were excited to have a pretty tasty, afforadable, taco joint less than a block away. We were frequenting Flaco's whenever we had guests and to see what yummy special they had for Taco Tuesday. Queue the recent changes. 1.) They got rid of their different sized taco dinner combos (the 1 taco with rice and beans was my go to), and raised the price on the one combo that they kept. 2.) We used to look forward to trying a new taco of the week on Tuesdays, until they started substituting one of the regular beef or chicken tacos for the $1 taco instead of the special (unless they have decided to go with a vegan taco or spicy squash taco for the week ) 3.) Everything has gotten smaller and pricier. They have raised all of their prices since the "new menu" and yet we seem to be getting less and less good food. (See attached picture) Overall, it's just a bummer that Flaco's is not what it used to be and unfortunately has left us looking for a new go-to taco place. read more

I have never been to Mexico proper but Flaco's Tacos makes me forget I am in Chicago. We brought our 6 month old and he was just staring at all the colorful flags hung wall to wall. Service was above average. They did forget about our chips and guacamole order but the manager checked-in on is 3 times in our stay. He got it corrected right away. Horchata dispenser did run out (because it's delicious) and wasn't refilled immediately. Guacamole was good but the chips are great. Im going to refer it as the "double chip". It's thick and when you bite down, you realize the chip is layered and breaks apart into single layers. Love that crunch and texture. The tacos themselves were large portioned. You could order two and be satisfied. The fish taco felt like it had 3 strips of fish! Steak taco was a bit spicy and my wife wasn't expecting that (she hates spicy). The Al Pastor and Adobo chicken were fine. Overall, I say the tacos were average but perhaps we didn't pick the right ones. read more

While in the South Loop of Chicago, my wife and I decided we were in the mood for some fresh Mexican and we had heard some great things about Flaco's Tacos. We were sad that our experience turned out to be lackluster. Overall, this is a great place for the price, if you want to have some drinks and don't mind poor service. The atmosphere here is like a hole in the wall, there are tables that are just a bit too close together for comfort, a small queue line that reaches the door, and a menu of colorful chalk hanging over the order counter. The water cups on the side, and big bottles of hot sauce are everything you would expect at a little taco place. The drinks were my favorite part. I walked in after our long walk through the South Loop of Chicago and ordered a sangria margarita. It hit the spot and I was Tipsy within a few sips. It was so tasty that I have dreamed about it since. The service missed a step, we waited more than 30 minutes for 4 tacos and an order of fries. When we did receive our sit down order, it was wrapped up in a paper bag and some of it was less than Luke warm. The food was disappointing. The specialty fries for the day tasted like a frozen bag of fries from the grocery topped with whatever other odd ends they had in the back. The meat wasn't hot on the fries or tacos and everything tasted like mush. My wife and I make it to Chicago a few times a year, but this place won't be on our list to frequent. read more

I decided to go to Flaco's Tacos on Taco Tuesday to try some $1 tacos. The place was packed, so I took that to mean the food is excellent. I ordered a few of the weekly special tacos, Spicy Squash, and horchata. The horchata was served immediately and was a pretty standard blend. I waited 40 minutes for my tacos to be complete. I expected about a 20 minute wait because of the sheer volume of customers being served. When I opened up my squash tacos I was sorely disappointed because there was not a piece of squash in sight. I had a corn tortilla full of black beans. When I asked the staff about the amount of squash they told me it was mixed in and refused to provide me with a side of squash. They did say I could different tacos if I paid the difference, but honestly I didn't have another 40 minutes to spare. Sorry Flaco's Tacos, you get 1 star due to poor food and service. read more
