Hidden gem; not to be missed! After being in Redding for 3 days and eating mostly bad food, expectations weren't high for something on the way to Tahoe. Boy we're we wrong. Even living in Southern California and eating great Mexican food all the time, this place cam hold its own. Started with gratis warm chips perfectly fried and delicious spicy salsa. Then all the entries were great. Nachos has melted queso fresco, which was awesome. I really only ordered nachos to be safe, thinking it wouldn't be good Mexican. But they ended up being some of the best nachos I've had in a long time. The burrito had high quality chunks of meat and was perfectly proportioned. We cane through on the fly with a party of three on a road trip to Utah. We all agreed we got a good but not miraculous chicken burrito. On the other hand the salsa bar was terrific, interesting, and clearly homemade. In 2023 that has become more rare. read more

Tired of the same Foresthill exit spots in Auburn, we found Flaming Burrito Grill on Yelp and were encouraged by other diners' ratings and reviews. What a find!! This little strip mall cantina is like a surprising number of places in Auburn -- family run, super-friendly, fresh ingredients, careful preparation and fair prices. FBG offers everything CalMex from salads to rice bowls, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas and more. They also offer free tortilla chips and five or six salsas, guac, etc at a tidy self serve bar. The breaded fish tacos were a big huge hit with kids, and my carnitas burrito was excellent. They toast the tortilla rather than just steam it, and sometimes that little extra char goes a long way to burrito nirvana. The meat was hot and well-seasoned, and best of all still juicy. If not for the tough standard set by true SF Mission burrito shops, I'd give FBG five stars. The food and service really is good. Definitely going back soon. Fabulous service, mediocre food unfortunately. For a taqueria, we were checked on 3x in the hour we were there. The salsa had a good amount of heat and flavor unfortunately did not have a self serve salsa bar. I ordered the chile relleño combo plate and my husband ordered a carnitas burrito, neither were anything to write home about. The red sauce on the chile relleño was way too sweet in flavor which almost made the dish taste like dessert. The carnitas in the burrito were very salt and slightly soggy with no other spice. The place is perfect. A whole in the wall experience but it's clean and everyone is very pleasant. The food also so amazing. I love the steak nachos. The breakfast burrito is also awesome. Some have said my husband is a purveyor of the best breakfast burritos and they make them the best in auburn. We had the fajita salad with chicken (seriously the best salad ever), carnitas (you could hear the crunch of the crispy ends) and carne asada burritos. Beyond delicious! Lori consistently greets you with an uplifting smile, while Jose' is in the Kitchen making the best burritos, enchiladas, EVERYTHING!!! This is Sheri writing this review, so...My husband had a total knee replacement last week (his first one being three years ago), and we needed to eat some great food to keep us going because I was his caregiver. (Being a caregiver is an extremely hard and stressful job for which most people (spouse's) DO NOT GET PAID FOR!!!!!! That has to CHANGE BABY BOOMERS!!! There are A LOT of good Mexican restaurants in auburn. It seems to be "our thing". Out of all these very good restaurants I have a new favorite! The flaming burrito grill is spectacular! Second time coming here with my boyfriend and it was delicious. I got the carne asada plate and the asada was seasoned to perfection and no cartilage, excellent flavor. My boyfriend got the asada burrito and it was a large burrito, he couldn't even finish it! The service was wonderful as always, we were waited on in a timely manner and the owner/cook came to check on us during out meal. The ambiance was clean and we left happy and full. Will be back! What a delicious carne asada burrito! First of all when I walked in I was greeted and after paying for my burrito they asked me if I'd like complementary chips and salsa which I obliged. I let the lady know that I was allergic to tomato so she asked if she could put avocado in my burrito instead of guacamole which was awesome. I let the lady know that I had to use the restroom and she even went and checked to make sure the restroom was clean for me to use it. Now that's customer service!!! We came to this place on the recommendation of a local. First off, there are so many choices on the menu which makes it hard to make a choice. In the end I had the chile relleno burrito (veggie) which was perfection. The taste, freshness of ingredients and level of heat were just right. Sadly, I was too hungry and didn't snap a photo of this beauty before it was devoured. The chips and salsa were really fresh and tasty as well. I'm looking forward to my next visit.
