As we head to our happy place and former home Coeur d'Alene Idaho.. I can only think of one place we wish to stay.. Our Flamingo. We tried several other hot spots in town, but hands down this one takes the cake and here's why; - Family owned & operated with the nicest folks; Michael (dad), son Don & daughter Elaine & Melissa whom I had the absolute pleasure of securing our reservations with today ! They call you back when you leave a message (and I don't mean 2 days later) they listen courteously & try so hard to accommodate your wishes. Ie; We really love the Flamingo Beach room (each room has a different great theme) which has dual vanities on opposite ends of the room with cute racks to hang your things....And thankfully our wish was grated for 7 nights.. - You are in the downtown core and can literally walk anywhere.. Tubbs Hill, the Park, Bars, Restaurants, Coffee Houses (Coeur d' Alene Coffee our favorite) CDA Resort, shops galore etc - Single story Building with nobody above you- - Affordable, Clean & Safe - They have the lights on for late check-in Give this Gem a try, You will be so glad you did --Thank You Flamingo you're the best lodging in the area - We love you!! read more

I have a soft spot for the Flamingo because it's a blast from the past. There is something refreshing about parking just outside your room door and not having to hump bags up through a lobby and into an elevator. I love the tacky retro room decor, although one might choose a room based on size, bed configuration and distance from the street rather than theme. There was no one in the office when we arrived around 5, but my call was answered promptly and check in was accomplished fairly efficiently. A couple of improvements are required. The king size bed needs 4 pillows to be comfortable for 2 people. We had two in pillowcases and two in shams. I doubt those shams get laundered regularly so I certainly don't want them under the covers with me. Also, there is excess light coming in from the parking lot. I've noticed most hotels are going to roller shades which seem to provide better light blocking. For $80 a night, you could do a lot worse. read more

Had three nights booked in #3. Monday night(our last night) came back after dinner around 8 pm and found another person had our room. Went to office and the lady working was so drunk she couldn't walk or talk. After some time and coaching, issue was resolved. We have stayed here many times, but this will be our last. This motel was exactly what I was looking for: Centrally located, a bit cheaper than chains, and it definitely has that classic motel feel. We stayed in the Route 66 room this time, and I'll undoubtedly stay in this motel again when we visit CDA. read more

Just had knee replacement surgery but wanted to celebrate our anniversary. We needed a hotel that was on the main road where we could walk to have dinner and drinks. This little motel was perfect! It's super kitschy and adorable. Each room has a different theme. We were in the tropical flamingo room and it was spot on with decor. This is probably the cleanest hotel I have ever been in. There was not a spot of dirt, dust or cob web anywhere. Only things that were cons: the AC worked well but was loud. This is a nice place. Very well appointed. Was on a motorcycle trip with a buddy and needed a place to stay. The Cabin Fever room was perfect as it has two bedrooms. Owners were really nice and the place is super clean. Totally recommend this little place. It's old school which adds to its flair. read more

Just wow, hidden gem! Funky, quirky motel with themed rooms but incredibly comfortable (stayed in America unit). The bed was amazing, recliners in room, mini split air-conditioning, coffee pot, mini fridge and microwave, very clean!!! Nice chairs just outside door and wide ample parking spots. Perfect for deinking coffee while your dog enjoys his water bowl. Pets welcomed for $10 a night and great customer service. We found this little place as we drove through and thought why not (after our truck wouldn't fit in CDA resort parking), we had the best stay. Especially with the dog, so nice to be able to go in and out with no elevator, lobby or other guest. Nice open field across street to take dog to. This motel is literally in right downtown and 2 blocks for CDA resort. Nothing fancy but so comfortable, plus thick walls didn't hear neighbors. SAVE YOUR MONEY for tourist things and stay here! This will be our go to anytime we are in CDA. You can not beat the price, cleanliness and comfort. read more

Came to this hotel a little skeptical because some of the reviews made it seem questionable, but am so happy that we decided to ignore them! This motel is so unique in that each of the rooms have their own theme. Along with that, the rooms are super cozy and homey. The reason I am rating it 4 stars is because it smelled a little and the DVD player was not in our room so we couldn't watch the Hunger Games :( overall 9/10 would recommend read more

I called the Flamingo to book a room at 8:40 PM on a Tuesday. I am an early-middle aged lawyer. I was travelling with my boyfriend who is a farmer. We were travelling from Olympia, WA where I am from to Montana where he is from. We stopped in Coeur d' Alene for a late dinner. We decided to stay the night. The Coeur d' Alene Resort was more than we wanted to spend, so I called the Flamingo, which I saw on the way downtown. When I called, the man on the phone said they had one room available, but he wanted to know when I would be there, because he was closing the office in 20 minutes. Luckily, we were nearby at a bar/restaurant. The restaurant, which we stumbled upon while driving downtown, was quiet on this particular Tuesday evening and we enjoyed a casual meal with good service. There were only a few other patrons in the restaurant. When I told the clerk at the Flamingo we could be there in a matter of minutes, because we were downtown eating dinner at this particular restaurant/bar, he said they no longer had rooms available. The clerk proceeded to tell me he was closing early and they did not rent rooms to people who went to this restaurant, because it was a bunch of drunks. (Remember, it is Tuesday at 8:40 PM and my boyfriend and I are middle aged professionals. Clearly, a rowdy bunch.) I inquired a bit more only to be met with more disparaging remarks about the type of person I must be to be dining at this establishment . Our waiter told us the Flamingo was a dump anyway and we headed up the street to one of the new chain hotels which was perfectly adequate. (Nobody asked where we dined that evening before approving our stay.) I like small, local hotels. I think they are more charming than the Holiday Inn, etc. But it is people like this clerk that make it so we are conditioned to stay at a chain, because we assume there will be standards for the staff working there and consequences for inappropriate behavior. We assume we will not be treated with the blatant rudeness and baseless discrimination we experienced tonight at the Flamingo. I will be forwarding this review to the management of the hotel, posting it on my Facebook, telling all of my friends, and posting it on other review sites. Appalling. read more

This hotel is equal parts kitschy and awesome, and the lovely couple that own and run it are so lovely and welcoming. In a nutshell, I'd rather give them my business than the really fancy resort down the road (which was also very nice from what I could tell.) We rolled into CDA without a reservation and drove around town to find something near the city center. We saw that the options were either way out of our budget or very dodgy looking. We saw the Flamingo and noticed it looked well-cared for and decided to see if we could view a room. We were greeted by the owners' gorgeous cat, Beetlejuice. I don't like cats and am very allergic to them but quickly found myself petting him. I kind of wanted to keep him...and stock up on Zyrtec. The man showed us three of their themed rooms, which were a total kick! We decided on Cowboy room after learning his father was a cowboy in old Western movies. He also gave us a discount for a AAA membership we didn't have- what a sweet guy! Each of the rooms are ultra-kitschy but white glove clean. Our room even came with a vibrating bed- haha! We just about died laughing, as we'd never actually seen one. All in all, we had a fabulous experience, and the location cannot be beat. Two weeks before our vacation, they call to notify us that they overbooked for that weekend and our rooms are no longer available for us during that time. This vacation was planned quite sometime ago, and now we have to cancel. The overbooking was an error on their end, yet, they didn't do much to fix it for us. We're understanding of the issue and know that these things happen, but at least throw in a voucher for a free night stay somewhere down the line as an apology for the mistake, or something! I don't doubt the positive reviews of this place, but make sure your vacation is pretty flexible in case this happens to you. read more

My family of 3 stayed at this little gem in downtown CDA in June 2012. I was planning to book at a big chain hotel when this property's $100 per night rate caught my eye. And we were so glad we chose the Flamingo! The rooms are decorated with care. Little touches like chocolates each day and plush towels made us feel special. The owner is delightful and is always willing to help. Finally, you can't beat the location. A short walk takes you to the lake as well as downtown's shops and restaurants. We also enjoyed the resident cat who occasionally greeted us in the parking lot. :-) When visiting CDA, we plan to stay here again. read more

Five stars for friendliness, cleanliness and a blast to my past. This motel has theme rooms. You can borrow a book from the library or a free movie. It is super convenient to the downtown. It is not a huge hotel with all those amenities but you can take you kids back to a different time and place read more

If given the chance I would give this minus stars. I had booked the Flamingo for a two night stay for our 15th anniversary get away. Checked the weather before heading to Coeur d'alene. There was an air quality alert saying unhealthy to hazardous. My husband has COPD so I called told the gentleman who answered that we needed to cancel. He said we would be charged for one night because of cancellation policy. I explained that we having be coming and staying there for years and would come back when the air quality was better. He said it didn't matter I would still be charged. Needless to say Art must no longer this establishment. Never would he have treated customers like this. So we will be looking for a new place to stay in Coeur d'alene. read more

Stayed in cda for 4 days for a construction job. Chose this place for the reviews and I was given a king bed room number 5. Well it was 20 degrees outside and this room did have some heavy drafts coming in. No problem there was a heater in the room but it was located in a closet/bathroom type room. Well the heater really did not register the temp in the room but more in the closet. I had the thermostat up to the max of 86 and it really did not work that well but i tolerated it. The last night before I was to leave the following morning, the hot water went out in the room. I spoke to the owner and he did not speak English that well and really did not explain what had happened. So he said I could use another room to shower in only and then I had to walk back in the snow to my room because he told me he did not want to have to make the bed up in the new room w running hot water. He was not going to change his mind about this till I mentioned about him not getting a favorable internet review, as soon as I said that everything changed, so he did give in to my demands. The new room was very nice and had no drafts plus it had running water. I should have requested a new room after the first night and my stay would have been much better read more

Old school motel with very cozy and quiet rooms each with its own theme. We stayed in room 8 which was a two room suite with a rustic cabin theme. It's really nice being able to park directly in front of your room and to be walking distance to shops, restaurants and the lake beach areas. We stayed at the Flamingo Motel on a Friday night and at Davenport Hotel in Spokane the next day and I enjoyed the Flamingo every bit as much as the Davenport. The front desk person at Flamingo Motel was super nice and helpful. Highly recommend it. read more

Honestly this was much better than I expected. Also much better than the Resort City right down the street (or whatever it's called). Clean rooms, beds were really comfortable, parking was nice, AC was nice. It's basically downtown, just at the far end of downtown. Perfect if you start at the lake and work your way back. We were running late, we called and they waited for us. Room was very cute and decorated along the Route 66 theme. From the signs on the room there are different themes for different rooms. Totally liked this place! I am only giving four stars because from what I recall, there wasn't a maid service during my stay. I could be mistaken, but I think we had to go up and ask for new towels. I like the theme of the rooms. I don't remember our theme exactly, but it was garden themed/wine foliaged themed. It was cozy, safe, and accommodating. Our first night we didn't get in until very late, and they left our room unlocked and warm. The heaters work great when you are in visiting in the dead of winter. I also appreciated that the location was close to the main strip. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

We were looking for a clean, reasonably priced place to spend a couple of nights in Coeur D'Alene when we came to town for a wedding near Spokane. We found the Flamingo in an online search and decided to take a chance. We love Coeur d"Alene; we've stayed a couple of times at the big fancy resort but it's out of our price range anymore, and frankly just not worth the price. We found the Flamingo to be cute, clean and handy to town, just a short walk to shops and restaurants. Our room had every things we needed -- a fridge, coffee maker, air conditioning, and a microwave was in a nearby office area. The proprietors are friendly and keep the place tidy. I took off one star for the slightly musty smell given off by the air conditioner. The Flamingo is located right on the main drag of downtown CdA. I had been concerned that traffic noise would keep us from sleeping well, but that was not an issue because we left the fan on all night for white noise. We DID wake up earlier than we would have liked to the second night we stayed because the person parked outside our room thought it was cute to let his vintage (or kit faux-vintage) car warm up for 10 minutes -- RUMBLERUMBLERUMBLE. Obnoxious, but not the motel's fault. I should mention that I liked being able to park right outside our room -- so much more convenient for schlepping our luggage to our room than dragging it all through a large hotel lobby, up the elevator, down the hall, etc. I would definitely stay at the Flamingo again! I booked a room at the Flamingo based on reviews I'd seen, and I wasn't let down. I think I saw another review that complained that the manager was grouchy (or rude?) Well, it's called dry wit. I said, "I've got a reservation", and he replied, "I HOPE you do!" Well, I did, and it all went swell. i was traveling by motorcycle, and found this place to be very moto friendly, to the extent of keeping a bin of old towels to clean your bike with. Don't worry, car drivers aren't shunned, and you're probably welcome to the towels, too. The room, while small, (let's call it cozy) was well appointed, had an overachieving A.C. unit, and little chocolates on the coffee cups. And clean as a whistle. I know, I only give it four stars, but I've never given five stars. Five stars is for when fairies fly in and paint my toenails while I'm sleeping, and stuff my wallet with cash. That hasn't happened yet. I will return to the Flamingo, and I'm bringing my wife. She'll love it. read more

I had been wanting to stay here for years as it looked so cute every time I would drive by on a visit to Coeur d'Alene. My husband and I wanted a night away from the kids so we reserved the Flamingo Beach room. It was so nice, comfortable and clean! The amenities were pretty amazing too. Beside the hand soap they had shampoo, conditioner, lotion and make up removing wipes. They had coffee and cream for the coffee, not the powdered junk. The bed was so comfortable and you could even borrow DVD's to watch. We plan on going again but will bring the kids. read more

The Flamingo Motel is great- we stayed here on our honeymoon. The rates are reasonable, even during the summer. Each room has a theme-- I think we got the parrot room or the tropical room or something like that. It was decorated with parrots on the walls. The rooms were clean and spacious, and even had a wet bar area. It was super cute. There is also a cat that hangs out, and is very friendly. read more

I can't think of one BAD thing to say about the Flamingo Motel! I must admit when I made our reservation over the phone (after searching their web site), I was a bit concerned. They do NOT use computers; the reservations are done with pencil and notebook. I told, Don, the son of the owner, that I would probably call every couple of weeks for my own comfort level! And he was very understanding. It is family owned and operated. It is an older Motel but has been upgraded nicely. The room was quite clean; the bed was very comfortable; soft towels; a separate kitchen-type sink in the room space with a nice size fridge and microwave. All of the rooms are themed rooms. Ours was Cabin Fever and it was decorated very nicely. I only go to see the inside of one other room (don't recall the theme name) but it, too, was very nicely done. The staff were all very friendly and always there if you needed help or had a question. While it's situated right on Sherman Avenue, the doors to the rooms are at an angle and you didn't hear the street noise. It was within a 10-minute walk to a Park where we were attending an event and also a short 5-10 minute walk to downtown for shops and lots of dining establishments. We truly enjoyed our seven-night stay. We had originally booked the room for 10 nights but had to return home to attend a Celebration of Life and a funeral; Don graciously refunded our money for the 3 nights. Honestly, I would highly recommend this place. A lot of the people that we talked to had stayed there before and equally liked it. The other nice thing is that there were 13 rooms (NOT one with "13") on it and each one had their own numbered parking spot in front of their room! This is a great motel! My wife and I stayed here last spring in the "Lighthouse" room. We recommended it to friends this summer who were traveling through CDA, they too found the service, themed rooms and staff memorable. We knew if we were traveling through again and needed to stay, we would stay at the Flamingo. We picked the Hawaii room this trip, it is clean, spacious and neatly decorated. read more
