The menu is quite large and the dessert display case has soooo many tempting desserts. A host sat us in a booth. Drinks were ordered while we read the menu and specials. The Blackened talapia sandwich I ordered was not at all spicy. The lettuce and tomato on there was nice and fresh. The bun soft. The frozen fries are meh. Crispy when hot but quickly loose their appeal. The Italian sub is quite large and filling. Half of that came home. Each sandwich came with coleslaw that is heavily dressed in mayo with no spices. My daughter and I have eaten there twice in the last week! I have been in this area my entire life. This restaurant has been the most pleasant surprise! The food is excellent. Homemade, from scratch, with love-- honest to God downhome cooking. The potatoes are just like the chunky ones my mom makes when I go home. The staff are friendly, no-nonsense, hardworking men and women. 3.5 stars.. When it's called "our famous Greek salad" you can't go wrong... cool crisp lettuce mix covered with tons of toppings and a sliced chicken breast. Dressings were a great compliment. I couldn't pass up dessert as the display case was calling me, so I opted for the carrot cake. Moist and sweet, was a great finish to the meal. I wouldn't recommend this place. I went on a weekday for breakfast, and the place was pretty empty. The food was very low quality. I got the pancakes with scrambled eggs with sausage. The pancakes tasted okay. They tasted like they were made from the cheapest pancake batter and offered the cheapest syrup. They had a miscellaneous off brand ketchup, not heinz. Our Waitress was nice and even made us a fresh pot of coffee. Our bill was over 40$ for two coffees and two plates. Not the Cheapest establishment and definitely not worth going. I had a really decent burger, unfortunately, it was a little bit on the dry side, but otherwise good plate. My colleagues seem to enjoy their lunch as well. The desserts are nothing short of amazing here. Unfortunately, my service experience just was well under whelming. Our server forgot items, delivered the to go order to our table before our meals arrived. Of course, we asked that the to go order, for a colleague, be delivered more at the end of our meal. Honestly, I think she forgot to ring our whole ticket and because she came to the table and asked if we needed anything else, we responded with "our lunch". Obviously this could be a one off experience, and as I mentioned before, the desserts are quite amazing. One of my colleagues added an extra egg to her burger, which she did not receive, but it was on my bill. I would probably come back here and give it another shot. read more

I am back to once again denounce the mediocrity of the food at this establishment. My dad and a friend ordered breakfast food, and I've yet to sample that. I like a regular lunch so I ordered the tuna melt--more expensive than I thought--just the sandwich for $11 and change. It isn't hard to make tuna salad. This melange was just tuna and mayonnaise, as far as I could tell, and fairly flavorless. It was also served cold, and the cheese was not even melted. I wasn't going to eat a cold toasted sandwich. The waitress was nice about it, and it was returned heated up. The portion was generous and I saved half for another meal. This restaurant should up its game. I'm sure things like pancakes, fries and onion rings may be okay, but anything requiring any finesse at all is a big disappointment, in my experience. I'm reading about the great desserts, but I usually can't eat it and don't want the extra expense of a dessert. I may give this place ONE MORE CHANCE. read more

This is a nice little restaurant. It seemed clean and the staff seemed friendly for the most part. The person taking the money seemed a little unfriendly but not horribly so. I ordered it BLT here very light on the mayonnaise and it was quite good. The amount of fries they give you is crazy! I couldn't eat half of them. I thought almost $16 for a sandwich and fries and a drink seemed a bit high but that may be normal for the area. The sandwich had plenty of bacon on it and it was crispy just as I had asked. The tomato seemed a little over ripened but right now with all the shortages it was a pretty good tomato. One of the things I really liked about this place is that they serve breakfast all day. I will definitely be back to try it. Seems like a nice little diner and one of the few diners left that give you real glass for your drinks. Had a wonderful breakfast this morning. I had the Mexican omelette with a side of two whole wheat pancakes and home fries. Pancakes were good but not super fluffy. They are very conservative on syrup portions but two containers were enough for me (I wanted more but don't need it by any means). Eggs were sort of bland but omelette was otherwise okay. Coffee was great and milk served ice cold with meal. My family were served and attended to very well. I definitely felt that I had a wonderful breakfast overall and will gladly come back. [[HIGHLIGHT]]You could be sitting in a booth that has been occupied by a dog![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Staff of the Groton Townhouse Restaurant allowed a family to bring in a non-service dog in a stroller into their establishment and also allowed the dog to sit in a booth with the people that brought the dog. DELICIOUS!!! Fish was nice, a bit dry. stuffed w/shrimp, crab & scallops. Thermador sauce is A+, made up for the dry fish. Veal was tender & sauce complimented the dish quite nicely!!! We've visited Groton Townhouse for a couple of years now. It's larger and more spread out than a the Shack, with less of a wait time for breakfast. Their menu is huge! Beyond a Cheesecake Factory huge. There's an overwhelming amount of options. Since I mostly stick with breakfast, I can speak more about the 20 different omelettes and 10 different pancake topping options ( things like peach melba, almond joy, etc). Quality wise, it's good. It's not the most amazing breakfast you'll find, but it's solid and everything is cooked the way you've asked. The service has always been great. Everyone's very friendly, clearly know the regulars, and they take care of you like you're a new found friend. You'll be checked on frequently for coffee refills and they're speedy with anything you need. The only thing that keeps me from not coming here as frequently as I should is the coffee. I just wish they'd make it stronger. I know it's a small thing and a personal preference, but I do go out of my way for a stronger coffee. If you prefer fewer crowds than the Shack and aren't fixated on your coffee - definitely give this place a shot for breakfast and brunch. read more

Wow what's find. We diced on a late dinner and this restaurant was close to our hotel. The waitress, Ida, was outstanding. Everything about this place was great. My wife and I split a meal because some reviews indicated the portion size was large and they are correct. Their specials come with soup or salad and desert. The food arrived promptly and it was delicious. The food was so good we returned for breakfast the next day and everything was equally as good as the night before. read more

This place is above average for a diner. I was looking for a decent inexpensive breakfast and this place hit the mark. It was very clean the menu was well rounded but not the excess you see at most diners ( large menu usually indicates most of the food came from a freezer and thawed and heated). Menu was small enough that I felt confident that most of the food is prepared on-site. Sandwiches delivered to other tables looked substantial and well prepared. The staff were enthusiastic and seemed like they enjoyed working here and taking care of customers. No typical diner grumps here . Service and food delivery were amazingly fast. My wife's over easy egg was near perfect and her English muffin was nicely toasted and buttered. I had scrambled eggs and Canadian bacon with home fries. The Canadian bacon was superb . Smokey and moist. Probably the best I have had in a long time. The home fries were ok. A little too much onion but the biggest fault , they were dry. My leftovers the next day were much better. I reheated them in a pan and added a little water. They were much better. The scrambled eggs were standard diner flattop scrambled eggs. Forgettable. I am not sure when in American cooking scrambled eggs on a flattop became a thing. Properly scrambled eggs in a skillet are soft creamy light and delightful dish. But alas diners forgot this and serve somewhat dry sorry griddle cooked scrambled eggs . These were no worse than other griddle cooked scrambled eggs but they weren't any better either . I wish I had ordered sunny side up or over easy. The coffee was typical forgettable diner coffee. I read more

Menu is huge. They still require masks upon entry and exit. The chicken noodle soup was basic but delicious. My bf had a sale to start-- also basic but plentiful. We ordered mozzarella sticks -- only luke warm so not appealing. We didn't eat more than one. I ordered the chicken francaise. It was basic and nothing unusual but still delicious. The portion is enormous. He ordered chicken Alfredo. Nothing spectacular he said - he gave it a five, but it couldn't be too bad because he took it home, lol! He had Boston cream pie. The pudding was only halfway to the edge and the rest was whipped cream. He felt Pudding deprived. I had the chocolate fudge cake for dessert. The cake was dry but the fudge frosting was amazeballs. The waitress brought our desserts over in to go boxes and we hadn't stayed long nor did we ask for that and it wasn't closing time but she was kind enough to put it on plates for us. The place is overly brightly lit and quite outdated but the service was good. Not the warmest but it was adequate. I'd say 18.75 for chicken and pasta is a little steep but it's the Mystic area so I guess they can. read more

Gave it three tries (breakfast, lunch, and dinner). The menu is massive and I think it causes the food to be of a lesser quality. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone for lunch or dinner (prices are too high, service isn't great and food is meh. Breakfast was ok, but only if you get very basic things like scrambled eggs and pancakes (still expensive) and they give you smuckers pre packaged syrup pouches which is exactly what I don't want in a diner. read more

I LOVE veggie lasagna without the red sauce; I prefer the white (alfredo) sauce instead. I used to love Stouffer's frozen veggie lasagna. I didn't think they made it anymore and I just recently found it and it was just terrible! Imagine my delight when I saw veggie lasagna on the menu at the Groton Townhouse Restaurant and I was able to get it with the white sauce. Stopped her for lunch mainly because it was not a chain restaurant. I had the Rhode Island Clam Chowder which consisted of mostly potatoes laced with a hint of clams - if I put all the clam bits together, I doubt it would have amounted 1/4 of a clam. My wife had grilled chicken breast which was three generous slices of dry chicken breast, obviously pre-cooked and reheated. The service was fine - prompt and friendly.
