the shadow of a person behind a food truck

If you're fortunate enough to come across their food truck get the crab cake in cream of crab soup. Definitely an icon in the Pantheon of Baltimore cuisine. Every bite is exploding with goodness! Unlike some in the restaurant industry, these owners did not use Covid as an excuse for declining quality and increasing prices. Portion is generous enough that you can be virtuous and eat half now and the rest the next day. Or you can do like I did and eat the entire thing at once and wish you bought another.

I really wanted to love Flash crabcakes! That is the truth. I found out about Flash while browsing on Yelp, weeks before the TV appearance. After seeing good looking crabcake photos and a really high Yelp rating, I started stalking its Facebook account for the daily schedule. "When is this food truck heading my way???!" "Oh they're at Hopkins today!! I can Uber!!!" Finally, found it parked Downtown. I was very excited!! It was a beautifullllll day!! There was a short line, so had to wait a little. The owner was really friendly, he chatted with the customers and very proud of his business. I didn't mind the wait and I was happy to see a passionate business owner. He offered samples of his crabcake and cream of crab soup. I already had high expectations even before tasting it for the first time. When I had the sample crabcake, I was NOT blown away. :( Tried the sample cream of crab soup next and THAT was GREAT!! Still, I came for the crabcakes, so I still bought 2 orders of All Lump Crabcake with Crackers $13x2 for my husband and I. After eating, we were really disappointed because for $13, it was small and it was not "All Lump". I've also had better tasting homemade crabcakes. I just somehow expected it to be something special. I have had a lot of crabcakes from different "BEST" crabcake restaurants in Baltimore to Annapolis. I was hoping that I was finally going to find THE BEST, but I was wrong. As for Flash, I'd still go and buy its cream of crab soup in the future. I'd be happy to pay $10 for a bowl.

Yum who knew some of the most delicious crab cakes in the city come from a food truck?!? The owners are so friendly and will give you a sample if you are having trouble deciding. I ended up going with the crab cake and soup together which was pretty interesting. Next time I would ask for the soup and crab cake separate - I didn't like the texture once the cake had been in the soup a few minutes. Overall really tasty and reasonably priced.

Was coming back from the pharmacy and passed this food truck. The husband and wife who run this couldn't have been nicer, and the food was excellent! I got the crab cake with the crab soup on top. Delicious, and will definitely return!

Stumbled upon Flash Crabcake today, this is the tastiest crabcake I've had in a very long time. The crab cake was full of crab and very little filler. Jo was kind enough to show me the Baltimore way to enjoy with crackers & mustard, and also threw in her tip of Worcestershire sauce. Both were delicious. I will now be on the hunt for these crab cakes. $10 for 6oz cake with crackers, worth every penny!

6 oz. "Super" Lump Crabcake Sandwich
    A. C.

(10/30/2014) Got the 6 oz. "Super" Lump Crab Cake Sandwich. "Super", some designation they made up, seems to be a mix of lump (not jumbo), backfin, and claw. Cake was pretty wet on the inside, significant seasoned breadcrumb filler, lots of dried parsley, somewhat oversalted. Came on Martin's dinner potato roll, which was kind of small and a few shreds of iceberg. OK for $11, but better choices out there.

Going to attempt my own tomorrow!

I lived in Boston previously and Thames's lobster roll is BETTER than any I had there. It's my default order, but explore their specials when they catch my eye. I can also recommend thier scallops and fish. Their crab cakes are great as well; however, I reccomend getting other items here and crab cakes elsewhere if you're making multiple food stops in Bmore as there are equally good crab cakes at other places (Pappas, Faidleys, Nick's, Coco's etc.) but not equally good other dishes. I'm not an oyster guy, but they also have the best raw bar in town, and they have an in house dedicated pastry chef who makes desserts which are to die for if you save room.

I will definitely return to try their crab cake (the gentleman next us ordered it) enticing me to come back.

So it cost me $10-15 to for a plastic takeout container. Had I not looked at the customer copy of the bill I would have not only not known but I would have tipped based on the total which already included the additional gratuity charge (which was not disclosed on the merchant copy). This is so unnecessary and ruined what would have been a good experience. They said it was a "sharing charge" which I have experienced and applies when u have another diner with you and u decide to split an entree. Had they disclosed I would at least had the option to finish the meal. The saying "stepping over dollars to pick up pennies " seems to apply as this left such a bad taste I doubt I will return despite the fact the crab cake was delicious and the loaded baked potato was average (hardly loaded) Beware of the hidden gratuity for take home leftovers!!! Update to above: I did follow up with Angie this morning and she was very kind and offered to credit back my card for the extra gratuity. She also explained that I was misled about the "sharing charge" but they do automatically add 15% gratuity regardless of party size or quality of service. So I would give 4 stars for the food quality and 1 star for the way in which they present and charge gratuity. Tipping should remain at the discretion of the diner based on service and food quality otherwise just get rid of tipping and raise your prices

The crab cakes were accompanied by a handful of greens, and heaping portions of the sides. The soup came with a handful of wrapped crackers - more than we knew what to do with! I preferred the lump crab cake, the sides were all good with the crisp cucumber salad and Cole slaw being pleasantly refreshing. The potato salad was the creamy sort. The shreds of crab was visibly evident in the veggie filled minestrone type soup, but not as evident in taste. It is always tough to get your fix of veggies on vacation, so I'd probably get the lump crab cake with cucumber salad and Cole slaw on another visit, or try one of their seasonal items.

We didnt end up ordering brunch since items on the other menus won us over very quixkly: the crab cake eggrolls (appetizer) and the crab grilled cheese (lunch). Being ambitious, we did ask the server to leave the menu behind, just in case. There was so much deliciousness to choose from But alas, we were satiated. To drink, we skipped the bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Mary and opted instead for a Blood Orange Margarita (which was more berry-like in color) and a Passion Fruit Mezcal Sour. Both were a tad sweet for our preference but very good otherwise. Would definitely recommend and hope to return.
