The Bodega Kitty got the job done. Urban Oyster is a surprising find and must try. Because of the name, I made a presumption that it is an oyster bar with an expansive seafood offering. Although it is not that in the traditional sense and more of a raw bar, I like that the seafood offerings are more focused and curated. And if you dont eat seafood, you will be able find plenty of options. I tried the wings, snapper bites, and collards/cabbage. The food was really good. Everything was cooked to the perfect temperature and texture. The HH specials are a great deal. I sat at the bar and service was really good. Had a chance to check out Urban Oyster. Upon entering the environment was welcoming and the modern decor was a nice touch. Pretty good vibe and noise level was conversational, which was a plus. Was seated and decided to try a couple of different appetizers. Had the grilled oysters, cheese, teriyaki and volcano. Also tried the devil eggs with fried oyster fritter. There was very little oysters on most of them, mostly sauce or cheese. Customer service overall seemed transactional, not very personal. For the entrees, the Branzino, and burger. The branzino was good and moist, but the skin could have been charred alittle bit more. Overall not that bad. The burger was just okay. Small and decent flavor but nothing special. The fries surprised me, because while they were hot they were tough to bite through. Perhaps they way refried or older. I could not figure it out. Out of all of these options the devil eggs were the best. I enjoyed the fried fritters in combination with the eggs. What can I say. What a gem of an establishment. It's cute, not too overwhelming with a gigantic menu & crowded seating. My wife & I went straight to bar and snuggled in next to a lovely couple. The bar tender was nice, despite being obviously tired & a bit in demand as she was the only one tending the bar. The food, drinks & people were great! We had raw oysters, and grilled oysters. We were immediately seated upon arrival and given a choice of seats/location. I started with the Pearanoia cocktail which was refreshing. Then I tried the Luck Be a Lady cocktail. This was a pretty drink and a bit sweet. For appetizers: -Devil's Eggs were perfect! -Taco Flight (2 shrimp and 1 catfish) was very filling. Could have had this as an entree. -Chargrilled Oysters were unfortunately my least favorite of everything ordered. Nothing stood out. For entrees: -Grilled Branzino was a solid choice. I came here specifically for happy hour and really enjoyed myself. They offer a happy hour special that is not listed on the menu: six oysters (two flavors), truffle fries, and a drink for $35. That alone felt like a great deal. I tried the volcano and teriyaki oysters, and they were so good. The truffle fries also held their own, and I am very particular about my fries, so that says a lot. I also ordered the happy hour tacos (oyster and catfish). They were okay, nothing to run home about. Since the restaurant clearly has some elevated sauces, I would love to see those same sauces incorporated into the tacos to make them stand out more. Otherwise, they feel pretty standard. I have tried them multiple times at other events and was so excited when they first announced they were going to have a storefront. I made reservations for my group and they were very accommodating. We had the long table right in front of their main window with a perfect view for the street. We walked here after viewing the Lights on 34th street and was the perfect temperature and climate to complete the evening. It definitely transforms you into elegance immediately upon walking into this gem! From the decor, color scheme, and ambience; you are swept into sheer nobility. I enjoyed each dish from the fresh oysters and how they were presented to my bisque that left the perfect coating on my tongue which had me sopping up every last bit with my bread. We all enjoyed our dishes and the space. I was hard deciding upon what to order and I so can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu. And prep for my trip to Baltimore, I researched black owned restaurants to visit, and I was delightfully introduced to a Black owned oyster bar in the city. Luckily for me, it wasn't too far of an Uber ride from the harbor area where I stayed and so I took a quick trip to enjoy the oysters and a nice cocktail. The restaurant looked like it was located in a really nice area from what I can tell. The restaurant is small in size but very well decorated; it has a bit of a sophisticated flair. My server, Erica was really nice and knowledgeable of the menu. The oysters tasted very fresh and the old-fashioned was very well balanced. This is the only Black woman owned oyster bar in the country. If you have a large group, make a reservation. There is street parking available. Prices were reasonable. We only stopped by for oysters, which were good. I was a bit disappointed by the limited options at the raw bar since this is an oyster bar. The shucker we had that particular night needed some more training in shucking and in overall oyster presentation. If it's not obvious by now, I can be a snob about that, but if we're talking raw seafood I will be that. A few oysters we got were shucked through the heart and shriveled up, which is unacceptable if oysters are supposed to be your bread and butter. I was so excited to give Urban Oyster a try! The inside is stunning with a beautiful, large bar and a raw bar area that greets you first thing when you walk in the door. We asked our bartender/server about gluten free options on the menu and she was unsure of what items would be safe. Another server said that everything was gluten free except the flatbread and the tacos. This seemed encouraging at first but upon further investigation, I kept seeing other items like a lobster corn dog and fried oysters that probably contained gluten too. When I asked about those items, I was told they did have gluten as well. At this point, I was feeling a little nervous. The bartender offered to check with the kitchen which I said I would appreciate since none of the staff seemed to know what ingredients were in the food but at this point, we had been going back and forth for a while and it seemed like I was becoming a nuisance. We ultimately got the charred BBQ oysters topped with cheddar and bacon and the lobster bisque to start. The BBQ flavor was a little too overwhelming for me but the charred texture was nice. The lobster bisque fell flat for me as it was watery and the flavor was lackluster. Then the scallop mushroom risotto and beef bourguignon came out. The server snatched the beef bourguignon right back up and apologized for the fried onions on top. I was confused since fried onions are usually gluten free. Then she was unsure whether I could have the mashed potatoes and asked me if they were okay to which I responded, "I don't know, you tell me". At this point, I was really starting to get frustrated. After checking with the kitchen (again), she realized the fried onions were coated in cornstarch and the mashed potatoes were gluten free. Great. The beef bourguignon was delicious and hearty. Probably the best dish we tried. The scallops were tender and well seasoned. I wasn't the biggest fan of the risotto but that's probably because I don't always love mushrooms. It had a lot of mushroom-y flavor so if you like that, you'll probably love that dish. All in all, I felt a bit underwhelmed and uncomfortable. I think if the service had been better, I would easily knock this review up to a 4. In my opinion, a nice restaurant where you're likely paying $50+ per person should have their staff well trained enough to know about common allergens. If you can mention the word "vegan" on your menu, you should also take the time to mark items as gluten free, contains nuts, etc. I'm sorry but there's no excuse for cutting corners around something so important at a place that is boasting a James Beard nomination. I hope that with time and training this changes because I'd love to return in the future for a meal I can enjoy without worrying about how sick I might get later on. read more

The garlic cheese oysters didn't actually have visible cheese on them and didn't quite match the photos, but the flavor was still good. The volcano oysters were also flavorful and enjoyable. The batter on the lobster corn dog was a mix of sweet and salty but the dipping sauce paired well. The seafood flatbread was very rich. The bread was too thick for my liking to be a "flatbread". I had the branzino entree with broccolini as well shared deviled eggs and ceviche. The starters were really good - classic deviled with an oyster fritter on top and creamy filling and the ceviche and seasoned chips were light and tangy. The entree plates are a hefty portion - the branzino was a whole fish filet in two pieces and was well presented. The white bean puree with the fish was very creamy and delicious although I have like a bit more flavoring on the branzino itself - the salsa verde it came with was very chunky and couldn't be poured over the fish entree easily. The drinks were delicious even the spirit free options. I would definitely visit again and focus on the drinks and some of the other favorite starters that the team recommended. We shared some small plates as our meal - some favorites: The chargrilled oysters with volcano sauce were delicious, with an amazing smoky/spicy flavor, and perfectly cooked. The collard greens and cabbage were another favorite - delicious, braised just enough but not overcooked, with a subtle smoked turkey flavor. We had an early Sunday dinner from the Restaurant Week menu and the food, service, and atmosphere were stellar! The lighting is warm and inviting, and my favorite part was the fish-print wallpaper on the ceiling in the bathrooms! The restaurant week (RW) menu was an absolute steal at $55 a person for all the food you get. And if you're going to the first Black female- owned oyster bar in the country, you're going to get a dozen oysters! The RW menu offered Chincoteagues, which are delicious and big, but they had a lot of other oysters on offer for the raw bar. I was very happy sipping my Pink Lady cocktail and eating oysters. The entrees were great. my husband loved the sweet tea brined Yardbird, and it was a full meal. My steak was delicious, it almost tasted like jerky with the maple glaze, and the green goddess mash was to die for. I absolutely loved the combo of flavors. I did order the steak medium and I feel it came a little on the rare side. I still very much enjoyed it as I don't mind a rare steak, but if you don't like red/pink, I'd suggest medium well to be safe! *visiting from Houston* This establishment is so cute and quaint. It was at Friday afternoon and we had reservations for 4pm. There was no wait and we were instantly seated. My favorites were Cheese Louise oysters! Omg, the cheese and bacon flavor is amazing. Also got the shrimp cocktail along with the UO Burger, truffle fries were an extra $2. Burger was fantastic. We also got the wings but I wasn't impressed by them. I couldn't really taste the flavor on the wings which is why I knocked a star off. read more

We decided to stop by after exploring the Baltimore Christmas market - we had no idea how hard it is to get a table on a weekend. We were very pleased with everything. The restaurant was fully booked with reservations, but we sat comfortably at the bar as a group of 4 and had no issues receiving great and prompt service. Here are some specific notes: Cocktails - The Bodega Kitty is worth the hype! A perfect balance of sweet and sour, strong hibiscus flavor. Appetizers - The Deviled Eggs were 10/10, the texture was perffffect and I loved the oyster fritter topping - somehow it paired really well?! Not a combination I would've ever imagined! Entree - I loved the scallops! They were tender, juicy and perfectly cooked, and the corn risotto that paired with it was very filling and hearty - perfect for a cold night. Frankly, every dish was fantastic.. Also? The ambience and noise level was on point which seems to be a rarity these days in a lot of places.
