First, the English muffin was fantastic! I dunno, maybe I am overreacting, but the melted butter was dreamy, and the English muffin itself felt "fresh" and was toasted properly. Very comforting. The omelet was fine. Eggs were fine; not overcooked, but could have probably been a bit more tender. I could have used a fair amount more of the crispy fried onions actually. The hashbrowns were underwhelming. They look really good in the picture, but I dunno, somehow they end up not being nearly as crispy and satisfying as they look. As they break apart, yeah, it's not the crispiest, and I wasn't getting a satisfying potato flavor. Still fine. A fair amount of food, too. I liked the vibe. BOY DO I LOVE BREAKFAST! I've been living in Portland for 4 1/2 years and just recently stumbled onto this little gem. This divvy little hole-in-the-wall serves one of the best breakfasts I've had since moving to Portland. Not only are they friendly and provide really good service, their food is great. I had the basic breakfast, which is two eggs, hashbrowns, toast, and I ordered bacon. My friend got the French toast and bacon, and we had two coffees. First of all, I have been searching for good hashbrowns for the longest time, and finally have stumbled upon a place that does them perfectly. I use the term divvy, but the place is clean and accommodating, and they keep making sure we are being taken care of. Haven't had lunch here yet, but the burgers look good too. Honestly this place rocks. We are new to the area and went to try it out for the first time for the inaugural duck game. Atmosphere is exactly what you would hope for a local watering hole. Timeless and homey. Unfortunately the game was not available, but that was a Comcast issue and the owner was working feverishly to try and figure out the situation which I appreciate. Food was killer, exactly the kind of bar food I love to have for enjoying a game. The club was fantastic and the hash browns are not to be missed. Perfect level of crisp with a nice fluffy interior. Also wound up getting a burger for happy hour which was hearty and delicious. Big menu, lots of fun stuff to try. Beer is great, food is awesome, vibe is right. This was my first time in and I love it! There were three of us and we all had something different. My friend had steak and eggs (he said very good), my daughter had blueberry pancakes and bacon. Dockside has been around forever, before the gentrification of this neighborhood, and I love how it's still there on the same corner, not updated, surrounded by all these modern buildings. Inside it's a typical, casual pub. Several booths line the windows, with tables, and bar seating rounding out the inside. There are also some outdoor tables. You can seat yourself, you don't need to wait for the hostess. Breakfast is their specialty and they serve it all day. Also burgers, salads, clam chowder, chili, and a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. We all ordered breakfast for lunch. I got the Tracey's scramble - eggs, green peppers, ham, bacon, sausage and cheese - with hash browns which were crispy and delicious. The scramble was very tasty, the only thing I'd change is swap the green peppers for red. Friends got other breakfast items - the huevos ranchero and the Eggs Benedict. Everyone was satisfied. The waitress was friendly and efficient, even though she was super busy. She even left a pitcher of soda on the table for my friends. All in all, a great spot for breakfast. read more

Decided to give Dockside another chance, really like their breakfasts. Another disappointing experience as far as customer service goes. Put my name on the list and finally when I'm next I asked to sit at bar and was reminded "we have a list" (having already told him my name was on the list. Then no mene's delivered, no greetings, and certainly no asking if we wanted something to drink. We were invisible, despite plenty number of workers, and they always seem to congregate over their register talking. We were 3' away and ignored for 10-12 minutes. Decided to leave. I'd never even heard of Dockside before a couple months ago, and had we stopped in on the day I'd intended, we would have coincidentally visited on its last day of operation under the helm of the original owners. Shame. Even so, the handoff to the new owners appears to have been a smooth transition, because this place rocks! Fantastic food, (mostly) attentive service, and a charming, rustic aesthetic. We stopped in for brunch, ordering between us the taco omelet, Florentine eggs benedict with ham, a Loaded Mary (Bloody Mary with all the fixins), and a MANmosa, because screw your fluted glass, pour us a big one! I expected to be a bit underwhelmed by my omelet, as I generally don't order breakfast food much. I'd tried to order off the lunch menu, which wasn't available at the time, and had to pivot at the last minute, but fortunately, I landed on a winner! It's hard to go wrong with spiced beef, cheese, egg, salsa and sour cream! Across the table, my wife was in ecstasy over her eggs benedict, claiming it was one of the best she'd had anywhere! From the sampling I took, she's probably right - even the Hollandaise, which can be tricky to execute correctly, found itself firmly in the Goldilocks zone - not too egg-y, not too lemon-y. We may have missed the Dockside during the reign of its founding generation, but its legacy, and continued operation, are in good hands. read more

This is the only place in PDX that understands how to execute on a crispy seasoned hashbrown. I would come for this alone. On my visit, I had a crab omelet which was so creamy and filled with chunks of lump crab meat wrapped in a bed of tender cheesy egg. No frills and just perfectly done. The only thing i wish this establishment would do is open up their menu to be more vegetarian-friendly. I think I counted 1 omelet and 1 sandwich that is vegetarian friendly. This place is still one of our favorite breakfast spots. Great team - it recently changed ownership and we are happy that the new owner kept most of the team. He did changed some to the better and some are things you need to get used to. He changed the cutlery and that was about time he also now use fabric napkins - fancy yes but more friendly to the environment (when washed right) and way more posh to the guests. But it's not that Dockland get posh at all and that's good that way since we most likely would not like it that way. Haha. The new owner changed also the hours and Dockland is now even open the whole week. This is all the good news. The prices are a little bit updated (higher) and they changed the hash browns - before they had the best hash in town. Now - if you order them crisp (!) they are good. But no longer the best. But still better than other places. But I'll hope he switches back to the old style recipe. They have good food, a great service team and sitting outside almost all year long is enjoyable. Fascinating historical context aside (from the turn-of-century photos on the walls, to the Tanya Harding connection I'll leave you to discover), this is the PDX diner you've been looking for. My old standard was the corned beef hash (these are not the flavorless farmhouse chunks you know from every "hip" new restaurant in town -- this is crispy, salty delight), but recently I've been converted to Terry's Famous Scramble: diner-style eggs have never had such a satisfying cross-section of flavor. Toss in the drinks (from the Manmosa to the Salty Dog), and fantastic service from an incredible crew (special shout out to the ever-excellent Krissi!), this is a semi-hidden, surviving Portland gem. read more

We love Dockside! I came here years ago with co-workers, when I worked down the street. Loved it then and love it still. When I first brought my dad here, for Father's Day. He was really wanting some kind of crab breakfast and sure enough, they had it on the menu. He loved every bite of his crab Benedict. The next time we went, he had a crab omelette and really liked that too. I get the scramble every time because it's so dang good and never lets me down. Seated outside immediately on a beautiful Sunday morning with no waiting by a super friendly staff. The entire restaurant was clean, including the bathrooms. My daughter had the Country fried steak which she said was a bit bready, but the gravy was so good that it made the dish. The sausage side was so good that I stole a piece! They took the time to split the biscuit and grill the halves so that it made a nice crispness to every bite, even covered in gravy or jam! I got the classic eggs Benedict which came out perfect! Covered in a Hollandaise that was not to eggy or lemony, but a nice balance of both and smooth. Covered in a dusting of paprika and parsley. The eggs were poached to perfection. Just luscious! We brought our pup, Nova, and they were extremely dog friendly, as two other well behaved pups were also chilling with their owners at breakfast. I rarely make it to this part of town (I tend to stick to SE and downtown), but went for a bike ride along the river, and stopped in for a late lunch. The place feels a little out of place, with all the glass and steel condos that have been built up around it, but as we ease out of pandemic restrictions, everything is a little weird. Sunny day, so I ended up sitting outside on their covered sidewalk seating that I'm guessing was built for the COVID-era, scanned the QR code, and checked the sandwich board for what beers were on tap. The patio was nice and airy, and a great seating option, especially during off-hours (was in around 2:30 PM). Ended up getting the chicken fried steak and a middle of the road pale ale. The CFS (and the whole plate) was a little on the smaller side for just north of $14, but not unexpected considering the location being right on the edge of the gentrification of the area. CFS was a little light in color, not quite having the golden brown I had been expecting, and leaning slightly towards the doughy side with the batter. The serving of the hashbrowns also felt a little skimpy, but they were appropriately fried. The biscuits were pre-buttered, and served with packets of honey. The food definitely didn't wow, but it wasn't horrible either. Felt like it was essentially coming straight off the Sysco truck, and slightly stingy on the portions for my taste. I did take a quick peek inside, and there was some video poker, a few tables inside, and a small bar. It has a hole in the wall feel, but with a white-washed veneer. I was probably the youngest customer in there by a decade, and my impression was that it was pretending to be a dive bar/diner, but catering to gentrified former yuppies who had moved into the high end apartments and condos in the area. All that being said, if I was in the area and looking to grab a drink and a bite, I wouldn't object to coming here again. I might not pick it out, but if someone in a group wanted to go or whatever, it's perfectly serviceable. read more
