2nd street with orange cream and sour watermelon Italian ice
    Veronica L.

Super nice and friendly service. The flavors for the Italian ice have a nice variety. The custard is really smooth and good. We got the orange cream and sour watermelon 2nd street kid size for $5.75, which is a great deal in today's inflated world of prices. Nice little shop with its own parking lot.

Italian ice is great. Service was friendly. It's a small shop with very limited seating inside. Prepare to order and then eat outside.

3540 Fruitvale Ave Oakland, CA 94602 In Oakland's Dimond District, "Flavor Brigade" is a neighborhood favorite for icy cold refreshments. This place has been on my Yelp radar, and I decided to visit this place on a warm July day. There was a steady flow of customers, and everyone walked out with a smile on their face. This is a small place, with no tables inside. There's just benches for you to sit and enjoy your frozen delights. It has a unique tie-dye decor. The menu offers a variety of favorites such as: Italian Ice, Frozen Custards, Ice Cream, Sundaes, Milkshakes and Floats. They had something I never heard of before called The Mummer's Mix. I ordered a medium Mummer's Mix of Chocolate/ Vanilla Twist Frozen Custard and a scoop of Mango Italian Ice on top. The Mango Ice was cold and refreshing, with a delicious flavor. The Frozen Custard was like a thick and creamy frozen yogurt, but a little sweeter. I liked the Italian Ice so much, I went back for more. I ordered a medium Italian Ice. I was told I can get up to six scoops of flavors of my choice. So I asked for one scoop each of any fruity flavor. The server suggested I get Watermelon Sour to gauge the sour taste. The Italian Ice was cold and refreshing, and withstood the summer heat for awhile. If you have a craving for something cold, drop by and try Flavor Brigade! Down the street from Safeway, and across the street from Ly Luck Chinese Restaurant and Willows and Pine.

The service was AMAZING! Gabriel was extremely helpful and quick, we asked for a coffee malt milkshake and a butterfinger and reese's pieces candy Sunday. I believe it was in the middle of a rush. The items were picture perfect! Thanks Gabriel! We will definitely come back for more Ice cream and shakes. We loved the wide variety of unique choices for ice creams and gelatos. They had really cool flavors, I saw one Churro flavored and Arnold Palmer, I can't wait to come back and try them all!

Flavor Brigade is the real deal for Italian water ice and gelati in Oakland. Located in an unassuming storefront on Diamond. Wide array of water ice flavors. Intense flavors and cream like consistency. The ice cream is organic from Strauss dairy. Try the gelati. Water ice and soft serve. A winning combination. You want good water ice? Fo to Flavor Brigade.

Review from 4/11/24: My cousin and I took my one year old son and he loved the orange cream and sour watermelon Italian ice. The guy working was nice and let my son try the banana Italian ice, but he did not like it. My cousin ordered mango and passion fruit Italian ice. The passion fruit wasn't very tasty, but the mango was delicious.

We all got the Thai tea crepe cake and it was so good. Definitely lived up to the hype. I also got the Thai tea, which was really good too. What made it even better was that one of my friends had secretly asked the staff if they could just bring our slices out with birthday candles, but they ended up going all out. They had the staff singing and played birthday music through the speakers. It was hilarious, unexpected, and honestly really sweet. It's a little pricey, but worth it for both the quality and the experience. There's plenty of indoor seating, the whole place has a really cool vibe inside, and we had such a great time. Definitely will be coming back :)

The chocolate frozen yogurt is that deep, dark flavor that makes me go, "oooooooh." The vanilla is rich with just the right amount of sweetness, and their seasonal flavors like chocolate mint chip, white chocolate, pistachio, and peanut butter are fabulous. They always have a large selection of flavors which include the NSA (no sugar added) choice. The gelato is positively decadent, and again, they have a wide variety of flavors. Every one we have tried has been delicious. Top that off with the nicest people, who treat you like a friend, encourage you to taste flavors (sometimes even with hot fudge topping!) this is an absolute find. The Yogurt shop was clean, and, well-organized, and bright. We were warmly greeted by one of the owners who genuinely appreciated us visiting on a cold wet afternoon. Each yogurt comes with 2 toppings and the option to add more for .75c. Located across the parking lot from Safeway, you'll find plenty of parking. I'll be back to try their shaved ice and gelato next time!

There are glass cases full of breads, cakes, eclairs, tarts and other delicious looking baked goods. On the top of the cases are jars with a variety of cookies to choose from, as well as, one of my favorites, their lemon shortbread bar. The lemon shortbread bar is amazing. They stack the wedges in a large lidded glass jar, each wedge separated with a sheet of white parchment paper. I believe this is one of the hidden gems at La Farine. The shortbread crust Is tender and buttery and hold holds it shape well when you bite into it. The lemon curd is creamy with the right amount of tang, and there is a thin sweet layer of crunch on top of curd that puts this bar over the top. The balance of textures and flavors is perfect. I also highly recommend the chocolate eclairs. Each one is filled with a generous amount of piped whipped cream, a pate choux with good flavor and texture, and topped with a rich, silky layer of chocolate ganache. Overall their prices are reasonable -lemon shortbread bar $3, and chocolate eclair 3.50. I decided to give La Farine four stars because on a previous visit I had a slice of the Moka cake, and was not impressed. It is an attractive and delicious looking cake with lovely pale moka colored frosting surrounding layers of dark chocolate cake, however, the frosting lacked the coffee and chocolate flavor combo that I was looking forward to, and sadly the frosting was more waxy than creamy. That being said, I will definitely be back to search for the next delicious gems at this very lovely bakery on Piedmont Ave.
