It's on the lower end of five stars. It hits all the right notes for me. Good location both in terms of where I am when I want to go for icecream and being by just enough parking. The service is friendly enough. The selection is just large enough. They have seating. Their packaged take home ice cream is a notch above safeway (or wherever else you go to buy ice cream). They have a mix of choices for how your ice creams served. They have outdoor seating, which, if you're out at night in Oakland is usually what I want. It's not flashy but it hits the spot at a reasonable price. If you are regularly in the area and haven't tried Humphrys it's worth it. If you're visiting Oakland I wouldn't trek far for it over, say Fentons, but I wouldn't trek choose if if you're in the area over making the drive to somewhere else (which I can't say about some of the competition). read more

I come to Humphrey a few times the service and ice cream is good but I always get the same flavor. On Tuesday 4/21 around close to 8 I came to Humphrey with some of buddies from work. The young lady who was beautiful had served all of my buddies including me amazing she was friendly laughing along with out jokes. she has quick service and moves pretty efficiently. she had us out their in under 2 minutes. This is to whoever is in charge of the hiring and firing. This review is ONLY about the youngish looking girl who was closing on Wednesday 7/23. She was The Rudest person I've ever encountered working at an ice cream shop. I came to get ice cream, to give the business some money, and she lost it. Not just my little money from that night but all the money that I would have usually spent, since I regularly go AND regularly bring my friends. I came up to the window and no one was there for a while and when someone did come, she started packing up the chairs with no acknowledgment that there was a person standing there waiting to order. I said, "oh, hi, is it closed already?" She didn't answer my question but rudely said, "our hours are posted on the window" and walked away. The friend I was with said we should leave from that interaction alone but maybe I had missed a clear "CLOSED" sign on the window. When I looked at the window with the hours, I was well within the opening time and closing time. The girl didn't come back for another few minutes and when she did, she didn't go inside to actually service me, but came back outside to continue packing up and I said, "I looked at the sign, it's not 11:30 yet".. and she rolls her eyes and says "I know it's not 11:30" turns her back to me and keeps packing up. So I said, "Okay. I'm going." So my friend and I left. There was absolutely no reason for her attitude towards me and if I ever go back and this girl is here, I'm not giving another dollar. It seems like she hates her job and hates the people who come to give her money for scooping some ice cream into a cone. Maybe release her from this clear horror so she can find a job better suited to her. I think there are restaurants where you're paid to be rude and disrespectful to customers... but then again, she probably won't like it there either since it would still require her to do her job. Know how you know that Humphrey Slocombe ice cream is the real deal...? if you leave it in the freezer too long, it will go bad. LIKE REAL FOOD IS SUPPOSED TO DO. Such a revelation! They use actual cream, real fruit, real eggs, and a bunch of other (real) ingredients. They skip the preservatives and chemicals. And it shows. Humphrey Slocombe may be pricey, but it is worth the amount you pay for a pint. My favorite flavor is dark chocolate sea salt - it is Quite possibly the best ice cream I've ever had in my life - and there are a bunch of other creative flavors as well. Don't miss secret breakfast, the bourbon cornflake flavor, or the chocolate dipped strawberry. Heavenly. Humphry Slocombe is a Bay Area must, nad we're lucky to have one just north of Downtown Oakland. First, let's give it up for HS for doing samples. Gone are the days where you can sample ice cream flavors...I feel like that's so rare these days post-pandemic. Second, there was ONE person working the entire ice cream truck. Props and shoutout to you love! They're located inside "The Hive" with a bunch of other shops like a barber and just around from Drake's beer garden. They're a takeout situation, they share communal space with other shops and a tiny table but it's more of a grab-n-go vibe. The menu is easy to read in large chalk and by the ordering station. I had to go for the Secret Breakfast as that's one of their namesakes. The crunch of the corn flakes and the delicious but not overly sweet bourbon vanilla was the perfect choice on a warm summer night. I also sampled the strawberry blondie which was tasty, but one the sweeter end for me. I love me some berry ice cream with the yummy texture of a cheesecake or some graham bites, and the blondie cake was very satisfying. I was curious about a bunch of the others but didn't want to hold up the line, so I will def be back to sample and try the others next time. My friend loved the honey graham ice cream. The service was so kind and sweet. We got great scoops that felt very generous, and I love that HS supports local events as I saw some flyers here and there for other local biz and events. Highly recommend the Berry Kouign Amann as one of Humphrey Slocombe's best flavors EVER! Actually got their famous Secret Breakfast. Always a good choice and throwback flavor with bourbon and cornflakes but then sampled their Berry Kougin Amann and was blown away by the flavor and texture. It tasted like light blueberry and strawberry mixed together with flaky pieces of crossaint. That's what it tasted like to me, and I absolutely loved it. Seriously a medal winning flavor! Came across this ice cream place while searching for dessert in the area on Yelp. My husband and I were not disappointed at all! I can't remember what flavor he got but he said it was super good. He got his in a sugar cone while I got my single scoop of Hong Kong Milk Tea in their homemade waffle cone. We arrived at a perfect time with only one person in front of us and once they left we were helped by the nice lady. She allowed us to have many samples which we really appreciated since it was our first time trying this place! We almost couldn't decide which flavor we wanted but went for the most unique since we're not local to NorCal. There's a small seating area nearby so we took out cones to enjoy our dessert there, and that's when things really picked up and a huge line formed! There's lots of street parking available nearby and some parking lots (but you'll have to pay to park there). Sundays on the street are free! I swear, this place gets me on the way out of Drake's every time (unless it's closed or the line is busy). It's such a convenient little ice cream stand, and everything from single scoops to "S'mores" (scoop of ice cream, fudge, graham crumbles, and marshmallow brûlée) is killer. A bay area staple and for good reason. The special is the secret breakfast but I will say that all the flavors that I have tried are amazing (in addition to all of the wonderful service). At least on this particular visit I got a pint of the cornflake crunch and a single scoop of the salted caramel with cocoa nibs. If I have one piece of advice it would be to get the salted caramel. This place is and amazing sweet tooth craving treat after a long night. My favorite scoop of ice cream was the cornflake scoop because it was so spot on. Adding cornflakes on top was the chefs kiss because it complimented the cornflake ice cream and added a nice crunch. DATE: 08/13/2022 I've been to this location quite a few times and I've never been disappointed. Well, maybe because this ice cream stall is conveniently located right next to Drake's Dealership. So after having a few drinks and a nice chat with friends at Drake's, I always go here for dessert, which is always something that completes the night. They have many ice cream flavor and they do allow you to try and taste them before ordering. The ice cream specifically in the picture is the Churron flavor. It is a new flavor (probably a temporary flavor) that combines Churro and Turon (a Filipino fried banana dessert). This flavor was a partnership with Señor Sisig. Honestly, the ice cream was good but weirdly interesting at the same time. It was heavily banana-flavored, which I like, but it does not really resemble the turon taste since turon is made from plantains, which you'll know the taste difference if you grew up eating turon. The ice cream also had churro bites which I didn't specifically find satisfying. Nonetheless, it was a unique flavor and I give a thumbs up for the effort. Their regular ice cream flavors are really good, so make sure to stop by especially after a nice time at Drake's! read more

This was my hubby's favorite flavor. It was a very solid vanilla a must say in par with Häagen-Dazs - vietnamese blue bottle coffee - light and satisfying. Usually the wait isn't too long, and you're able to sample a lot of the flavors before you order. Humphry Slocombe has some pretty unique ice cream flavors, so definitely try some that you're interested in!
