Flecha Cantina in Newport Beach absolutely exceeded our expectations from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the valet service, beautiful location, warm welcome, and refreshing welcome margarita set the tone for an incredible experience. The ambiance is gorgeous--upscale, and inviting to say the least. The service throughout our entire meal was attentive and welcoming, and the presentation of every dish was beautiful. We started with the coconut shrimp and goat cheese appetizer, and both were fantastic. The coconut shrimp was actually served in a coconut shell--such a fun and impressive presentation! We also had the watermelon salad, which was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and everything tasted incredibly fresh. My husband ordered the chimichurri steak, which was cooked perfectly to temperature and served with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. This dish explains Mexican Food redefined perfectly. Every part of the dish was amazing and packed with flavor. For dessert, we had the tres leches cake, and it was the perfect ending to an already wonderful meal. We are so excited to have a restaurant like this in Newport Beach and already know we will be visiting frequently. I also noticed they have a private room with a TV, which immediately caught my attention. If I ever need a place for a work meeting, presentation, or somewhere to share my screen with a group, Flecha will definitely be at the top of my list. Well, I really wanted to like this restaurant. I've frequented both of the restaurants that were in this space prior to Flecha. The redo for Flecha is nice. They didn't move any walls or add anything. But the layout is okay. A bit split up, though. Overall, the atmosphere is loud, a little dark (except when the sun blazes through the windows and into your eyes, depending on where you're sitting). But that was like that before; just wondering if there was any way to mitigate it... The wait staff was working very hard. They were all paying attention to what they were doing; so much so that I felt a bit ignored (took a little too long to get my place setting/napkin and for the spot next to me to be cleaned up - at the bar). No fault of the bartender. She could have used a little assistance since she was making drinks like a bat out of hell. As for the food, I had the carnitas "plate" (more like a huge charcuterie board - huge). Now, I've had good carnitas, bad carnitas, and really, really fabulous carnitas. The more authentic they are, the better they are. I would say that is how it is with Mexican food in general. I believe Flecha puts a new twist on Mexican food. They twisted it so much, it's not authentic and lacks specific flavor. The mole was decent if not a bit bland. I would give the food a 6; atmosphere was not to my taste, so I can't really rate it fairly. Service was fine. I got my food, and it was hot. Overall, I won't go back, but I won't say it's not worth the visit. Could be a fun place. Just not for me. read more

Good place! I brought my best friend here for her birthday. We have been to the Whaler before so we were eager to try this new spot. Upon being greeted inside, we were handed a sample of their peach margarita- so tasty! Food is good- the carne asada fries were okay. Fries weren't cooked all the way through and were not crispy- could have used a couple extra minutes in the fryer. We came for happy hour and chose to order the appetizer sampler. Overall, decent food. Similar to The Whaler, this place does get loud inside. Wait staff and greeters were very attentive and friendly. Loved my experience here. I sat at the bar. I was given a little margarita upon checking in at the host stand. I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas with Mole. I really enjoyed the quality of the chicken. The mole sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. Their wine selection by the glass is rather boring. They have Rombauer Chardonnay but other than that, it's pretty dull. Especially the red selection. Obviously, the tequila is much better and the beer selection is great. The service is outstanding. The bartenders provided a great experience. 5 star experience! Upon walking in, my husband and I were handed a sample of the peach margarita in a champagne flute and the hostess told us we could sit at any open table by the bar for happy hour. We grabbed a high top and a server came by quickly to welcome us and another brought complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was a good mild red salsa and the chips were warm. The happy hour menu is split into $6, $8, and $10 items, or you can choose one app from each of those categories for $20. We ordered the quesadilla, chicken fajitas and the guacamole simple. We enjoyed each of them, and would like to come back to try the Birria quesadilla and the taquitos. The happy hour menu includes six different margaritas. I ordered the watermelon margarita. Our experience was excellent overall. My only suggestion would be to reconsider the $12 valet fee, which felt a little high. I understand there isn't room on the property for self-parking, but a slightly lower valet fee, or complimentary valet parking, would be appreciated. My recommendations would be, for the far north area, to be cordoned off with wall and door, to lower the noise level, for families or those not sharing the desire for the louder atmosphere. Beautifully prepared and attractive. It came with Mexican rice and beans. Only the cheese wasn't melted enough the way cheese enchiladas are made. The other dish we had was the Achiote Tequila Chicken Torta with fries. A bit of a disappointment because it was bland. In the menu it said caramelized onions but weren't caramelized. I have to say, the $12 valet is absolutely worth it--especially because of the staff! They were incredibly nice, friendly, and professional. I usually don't pay much attention to valet service, but these guys were definitely the best I've experienced. The restaurant's ambiance was okay, although I think the other location has a better atmosphere. That said, service is what really matters, and they got that right. Eddie our waiter was delightful and helpful. We were greeted by a beautiful hostess who gave us a small taste of a margarita. We received chips and salsa along with a creamy cheese dip that was delicious. We had a carne asada fajita for two and I had a carne asada salad. It was all pretty good but we were disappointed that the fajita plate didn't sizzle at all. The beans and rice were subpar but the side salad was tasty with the cilantro lime dressing. This was a surprise dinner for my wife -- she'd been wanting to try this place ever since it was announced. We drive by regularly and she's been watching their Instagram and commenting on the construction progress for months, so I booked it as a surprise the day after her birthday to celebrate with our sons. I reserved a 7pm patio table for 4 online well in advance. While shopping at Fashion Island beforehand, I called specifically to confirm the reservation was still good and to move it up an hour since we'd finished early -- they confirmed the change over the phone, no issues mentioned. Valet was great and friendly, good start. But at check-in, they couldn't find our reservation anywhere -- not under my name, not the time, nothing. I showed them the confirmation on my phone and they checked again. Their explanation: the system may have rerouted us to the Huntington Beach location because this location showed as full. That's a strange thing to have happen after I'd just confirmed the reservation by phone that same afternoon. We ended up waiting 40 minutes past our confirmed time just to be seated -- and not even on the patio we'd booked, but in the back near a loud party. The delays didn't stop there. Our server was also handling that large, demanding party, so everything moved slowly from that point on. We ordered drinks and apps, then ordered our entrees 10 minutes later -- still no drinks or apps had arrived. Waters finally came, then drinks a few minutes after, then apps about 5 minutes after that. Our son's kids chicken tenders never came out with the rest of our food -- we waited roughly 15 more minutes before realizing they'd simply forgotten it, and had to flag down a different server since ours was tied up. The manager stepped in, apologized, and checked on us a few times, which we appreciated, but by the time everything was sorted we'd been there over two hours for what should've been a straightforward dinner. The food itself was genuinely excellent -- salmon was amazing, steak was tender, though temps were off across the table. We'd ordered medium, my son got medium-rare, and mine came out closer to rare. The manager noticed and offered to send it back, but at that point I just wanted to eat rather than wait again. Seafood enchiladas were great too. That part saved the night. Our server had a great personality and tried hard, but was clearly overwhelmed managing two demanding tables at once -- we even watched our drinks get delivered to the wrong table twice before reaching us. Between the lost reservation and the string of delays afterward, it wasn't the smooth surprise birthday dinner we'd planned, but the food was good enough that we'll likely give it another shot. read more

Checked out Marky Mark's new restaurant and have mixed feelings. The portion sizes were the standout: they were huge! Food itself was ok, but and not anywhere close to Javier's level. The atmosphere is loud, casual, beach-bar energy rather than upscale, and the crowd skewed toward an older, rowdier scene. If you're going in expecting a refined night out, this isn't it. Go in hungry and ready for a chill, noisy scene instead. Prices were very reasonable. The kids street taco was just a tiny portion of meat and tortilla with a side of fries with ketchup. I think this would work for a toddler, but not 8-10 year olds. The kids were still hungry and filled up on chips. On the plus side, the welcome drink (a small peach margarita) was a lovely touch upon walking into the restaurant. Management was attentive throughout and handled an issue that came up during our visit very professionally, which we appreciated. The real highlight was our waitress, Saray. We came for Saturday brunch to enjoy this new offering and not to do a review. The positives are the Watermelon salad was very good and I was surprised at the pricing for Mariners Mile, very reasonable. My wife ordered Huevos Rancheros and asked if they could poach the eggs well, our server went and asked, she said no problem. The poached eggs were perfect. Now the reason for two stars. We asked for salt and pepper from the two gentlemen who served the food, one was in a sport coat with the ear monitor so I'm assuming some type of manager. The salt and pepper never arrived after a long 5 minutes. We asked the server and she brought it promptly. My wife made a comment that it seemed kind of dry, after we both examined it indeed there was no sauce? One of managers stoped by and I asked if the Huevos Rancheros came with ranchero sauce? he explained that they have four sauces and never really answered my question. He agreed it looked, dry, and made do attempt to make it right. To further prompt this review the Huevos was cool and not hot. It went in mediocre and came out with an explosion, yes (ugh) We will not be going back. While the ambiance was great, sadly it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. Our order was taken but once delivered one was cold and returned by the manager. He returned some time later with a new plate and again apologetic and left. The replaced order was completely wrong and returned by our waitress. She was great! Finally after a long delay the correct order was provided. A dessert "on the house" was offered twice but declined. Once the final bill was provided we were informed the one meal had been removed from final bill. The food portions are quite large and the service was really great even though they were extremely busy. A highlight was the starters! Worst experience ever. Our experience at Flecha was extremely disappointing. We came with a large group to celebrate three birthdays, with friends traveling from out of state and others driving hours through Los Angeles traffic. Our reservation was originally for 16, and when a few additional guests arrived, the staff made absolutely no effort to accommodate them, even though there were empty tables available throughout the evening. I personally spoke with the manager, explained that we were celebrating birthdays, and asked if there was anything they could do. His response was dismissive and completely lacking in hospitality. When we asked if he was really willing to let our entire group leave rather than try to find a solution, he basically said yes. My husband was also at the bar with his friends ordering food and drinks, yet three of our guests were left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. We ultimately left and found another restaurant around 9:00 PM, where thankfully we made the best of our evening. For a new restaurant we were genuinely excited to visit, the lack of kindness, professionalism, and hospitality was incredibly disappointing. A restaurant experience is about more than food. It is about how you make your guests feel. Unfortunately, we would not return or recommend Flecha. read more

I was genuinely excited to celebrate three of my friends' birthdays at Flecha, but unfortunately the experience left me embarrassed and extremely disappointed. I personally made the reservation for our group and had asked several times if we could please be seated together. When a few additional friends joined us, we simply asked if there was any way to accommodate them. There were visibly empty tables and available space, which you can also see in the video I'm sharing, yet the manager made no effort to find a solution. What bothered me most wasn't simply that they wouldn't accommodate the additional guests--it was the way we were treated. The response from management felt rude, dismissive, and completely lacking in hospitality. I was the one who chose the restaurant and invited everyone, so watching some of my friends feel unwelcome was incredibly embarrassing. Eventually, our entire group decided to leave and celebrate somewhere else. What happened the following day was just as disappointing. I received a call from Rob, the Regional Director, who asked me not to post a review on Google or Yelp and offered me $100 or lunch on him. I found that incredibly insulting. This was never about wanting money, a complimentary meal, or anything for free. We are women who intentionally support new local businesses, and that was exactly why we chose Flecha for this celebration. I would have much rather received a sincere acknowledgment of how poorly the situation was handled than an offer of $100. Good hospitality isn't about never having a problem. It's about how you treat your guests when a problem arises. Unfortunately, between the way our group was treated that evening and how the situation was addressed afterward, I would not return to Flecha or recommend it to others. read more

I loved my experience dining at Flecha Cantina in Huntington Beach and was excited when I saw that one had opened in Newport Beach. So my wife and I stopped by there for lunch just a couple of days after it opened. The great news: the service is exemplary, really, really first-rate. Both the hostesses at the front and our waitress were wonderful. The mimosa drink when we entered was a very nice touch. The space and decor are beautiful - comfortable, stylish, lots of light, an outdoor dining patio. It really works. The chips and salsa were excellent and we appreciated being asked if we would like more (even though we declined). My cheese enchilada plate was very good as well as the rice and beans (which were light in texture). However, the cheese in the cheese enchiladas should have been cooked till it was oozing, but it wasn't. It looks like it was plated a bit too quickly. My wife ordered the achiote tequila chicken torta. But the sandwich was bland and dry. It didn't work. Although the fries served with the dish were excellent. I realize that anytime a restaurant opens, there will be teething issues. And I think it will be a great restaurant. The prices for lunch are very reasonable, which is no small thing nowadays. The happy hour section was only high tops and not suited for people with disabilities. The Huntington Beach location has seating at regular tables and the atmosphere is nicer. The hostesses were not very welcoming. The food and service were good. Valet parking only-$10.
