Nice staff, professionally run just the food is average. The burger was a bit skimpy and the fries a bit greasy. The strawberry shake was made with vanilla ice cream and strawberry sauce squeezed out if a container. I guess I expected strawberry ice cream or frozen strawberries. Flip, as the Ashland location might suggest, offers the same palpable ethos but with actual farm fresh, local beef. I happen to have some inside info on the setup of the restaurant, and she actually got the ingredients in In N Out's infamous spread, and made a truffle oil based alternative that won't set off any nutritional alarms for us foodies. The interior is chic, clean, and inviting. The dimensions of the building limit seating, but there are some outside tables and Ashland is as lovely a place as any to wander or claim a bench in scenic Lithia Park, so you can't really lose there, especially if we are still drawing comparisons to In N Out. I really do like In N Out, so don't get me wrong, but this is a really gourmet option AND you can get their burger deal - which includes a burger, fries, and cane-sugar fountain soda - for 10 bucks! There are portabella mushroom patty options for vegetarians, delicious hand cut fries (cheese as an add on), and shakes made with local Mix ice cream that is so good it must be a sin... lucky for me I'm not terribly religious, so I always get one ;) Unfortunately there are no gluten free buns for the trendy types or the infintesimally small number of people who actually have gluten issues. All in all, this is one of my favorite spots. Ashland can really break the bank and burgers abound, so it can be hard to stand out, and easy to get close to dropping 20 on a burger and fries. Flip is small and clean with a sort of industrial vibe. The young lady who took our order got our order wrong three times but the burgers were very tasty and the fries were hot and yummy with a unique savory flavor. The milkshakes were small for the cost ($5 I think) but super delicious the rest of the food appeared to be reasonably priced. Our large crowd was able to eat at approximately the same time but not together due to the bench and small table set up. The burgers here are what you would call, "Classic American-style" meaning fresh simple ingredients, although they usually have something on Special. French fries are hand-cut, and they also offer milkshakes. For those who are vegetarian, they also offer a portobello burger. I've had good experiences in the past, however, not so much in my last visit. I'm not sure whether they increased their prices, but it seemed a little steep; double cheeseburger, single cheeseburger, portobello burger, fries and a milkshake cost me $44.95!! And to really add insult to injury, they forgot to include the single cheeseburger in my initial order, despite them repeating it back to me -so I had to make another order, and wait an additional 10 mins to fully complete my order. After a late check-in to a nearby hotel I was famished but too exhausted to venture out. My husband was able to stumble into Flip and bring us back two very excellent burgers that definitely hit the spot! The grass fed burgers are flavorful and have a quality texture. They're a 1/4 lb. patty and may look small, but they aren't pressed paper thin to look bigger than they are. This is better as they retain their flavor and don't dry out while grilled. As requested, our burgers were lettuce wrapped and this was done well enough that the forks and knives they packed for us were unnecessary. As for the rest of the burger it all melded very well together. The cheese was nice and sharp. The bacon was cooked exactly how I like it and was sliced seriously thick! The red onion and pickle gives it a nice fresh crunch and the sauce was delicious. Eating this alone was filling enough for me to call dinner. The reason for requesting the lettuce wrap is to eat keto. That said, I would have loved to have seen even one more tiny addition to the menu to accommodate other diets. I understand keeping the menu simple means they can do everything excellently, but even some cheese curds instead of fries, or a roasted non-starchy vegetable option as a side would have made a huge difference in my order. This burger is perfect. The meat is top quality, freshly ground, seasoned just right, tender and pink. The bun and toppings complement it perfectly. I can tell someone spent a lot of time working on every detail. The brioche bun is exactly the right size and texture to contain the burger with a tender chew and without breaking down. House made pickles balance the burger. The mayo-based sauce is combined with the shredded lettuce keeping both evenly distributed on the patty. I wouldn't change a single thing. The fries are pretty good but nothing special. I wanted some kind of dipping sauce for them. If you like a beer with your burger they have a selection of excellent Oregon brews in cans. I enjoyed a Pfriem IPA. I enjoyed this burger on my last visit to Ashland almost a year ago. It was just as good this time. FLIP IS A FLOP After reading some of the reviews, a friend and I decided to form our own opinions. I wanted this place to be good. I love burgers and fries and I don't eat them often, so when I do, I want it to be good. The comments about the fries being soggy? OMG! They were soggy, limp, oily, AWFUL! The comments about the burger being small? I don't mind paying $6.75 for a small, good burger. This was not good. It was tasteless, dripping who-knows-what, but it wasn't juice from the meat. So do yourself a favor and pass this one up. It's simply terrible. My husband and I went on a Saturday, and ordered the burger/fry/soda special for $10/ea. The burger was delish and I loved the sauce! Definitely not frozen patty crap. Good quality. The fries were great (and didn't seem soggy to me). They were a bit on the salty side for my taste, but good none the less. I never drink soda, but I did get the lemonade and it was good! Plus they are a not your typical soda brands, they are a healthier option. We were both full from our meal when we were done. Just tried Flip for the first time. The place was a little dirty, food on the floor and a dirty table, but my husband reminded me that it was 2pm, just past the lunch rush, so I forgave them and we found a clean table. We each got cheeseburgers and split an order of fries and a chocolate milkshake. The fries were good, reminding me of the Black Sheep's chips, long and thin with the skins on. The chocolate shake was very good too, thick and very chocolaty. The burgers surprised me. For some reason, I had in my head that they would be thin patties, like you get at Louie's or In & Out, the kind that don't have a temperature, just "done." But the Flip burgers were thick and juicy, cooked medium, pink on the inside, and did I mention juicy? Very good! I really like this little place. You can buy an individual burger or you can get the meal combo and it's not that expensive. I ordered my burger without the bun. They wrapped it in kale and then put it in a paper wrapper that was so tightly that you was really easy to eat, without it falling apart. The burger was just right for me and tasted great. And oh my goodness, the fries! They must have come from really large potatoes.They had a nice selection of canned beer and wine. And they serve natural soda. staff was really nice and accommodating.
