Delicious Filipino fusion burgers. As part of Understory food hall downtown, there's plenty of seating as well a handful of seats at the counter. Seating at the counter you get a front row seat to the vibey upbeat atmosphere where the Filipino cooks clearly enjoy infusing flavor into the burgers. The generous sized burgers are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. If you order a side of fries, you end up with a mountain of food. It's a little on a pricey side, but on par with the offerings from Understory / other offerings downtown of that caliber.

Fast and friendly service and the food is deeeeeelicious. Love that I can get Filipink comfort food downtown. Lechon kawali plate is my favorite, but they have alot of other options.

Flip'n Patties is a Filipino-American fusion restaurant with two locations in Houston. The menu has several Filipino-influenced burgers with bao for buns! One can also order a garlic rice dish, chicken wings, or fries! There is plenty of variety. When I dined at Flip'n Patties there were several menu items that were unavailable because they had run out of certain ingredients - aka. Rice and mushrooms. But, what I did order was delicious! I ordered the Puet burger - Wagyuru beef, diced pecan smoked pork butt, sautéed onions, provolone, house blend mayo, and FnP tang sauce. It was flip'n good! Paired with the Flip'n fries (which I got upgraded to a large for free thanks to the Friday special), I had a HUGE and tasty meal. The fries were massive, crisp, and covered in shredded cheese and banana ketchup aioli. Let's just say, I shared with a friend and still had lots of leftovers to bring home. The service was great. Kiko was very friendly, gave us suggestions on what to order and got our food out to us fast! The food hall was pretty empty when I went, but this could have been because it was the week of Christmas. There was plenty of seating. The area was kept clean, but there were cleansing towels to wipe down tables at the trash cans, if necessary. Note: This location is in a food hall downtown in the Bank of America building. Be prepared to either pay for parking in a garage or spend time searching for street parking (which you will still have to pay for at the meter if it is before 6PM). I was able to park in the Bank of America garage and get my parking validated by Flip'n Patties, but that was only because it was after 4PM.

The food is all right for a quick office lunch. The waiting time for food preparation is kind of long. Like the new renovated environment.

Flip n' patties was one of the few burger places that caught my eye with its uniqueness. They add a Filipino twist to their burgers and have some special cultural diahes as well. I thought their location in memorial was too far but they actually have a location in downtown in the Understory. I didn't know what the understory was before but it is actually really nice inside with a ton of entertainment such as ping pong tables. I got the puet burger which is an akaushi beef patty topped with marinated pecan smoked pork butt, caramelized onions, provolone, mayo, and flip n patties tang sauce. That day I also learned that puet means butt. I got a side of flip n fries as well. They were loaded with shredded cheddar, spicy sauce, banana ketchup aioli, and cilantro. The beef patty could've been more moist but the smoked pork butt was perfection. It added a lot of flavor and was much more tender. I could eat a burger with that to replace my beef patty. The fries were really solid as well. They were cut thick and the sauce was actually a bit spicy. The portion size was really big as well, enough to feed 2 or more people. I also tried the lechon kawali and it was pretty good. It had a crispy exterior with a lot of fat inside and it paired well with the mang tomas sauce. One of my friends got the chicken pupu plate and I didn't try it but it looks like it would smack. My other friend flip rolls (lumpia) and liked it but they thought it was small. Overall a pretty solid place and a lot of options. Parking in the Bank of America parking garage is only $8 on the weekend and it's elevator goes straight to the understory

Flip 'n Patties is quality Filipino fusion food in Houston. It's not the typical, authentic Filipino food that I'm used to eating, but I guess that's the whole point of it being "fusion." Service is great, and food is very flavorful. We ordered the chicken pupu plate and flip 'n fries. The chicken was crunchy, sweet and was a perfect complement to the spicy, umami fries. Pro tip is to add the chicken on top of the fries to make it loaded and an explosion of flavors. I'm pretty picky about my fries and these fries were the fresh version, like Five Guys/Wing stop fries. They were soft on the inside and crispy on the out. Overall, recommend this place especially for a cheat meal. We'll be back to try their burgers.

Sooo goood!! The burgers were so juicy 10/100000 will be back. The fries were really good too, hot and fresh

Located in the food court at Understory in downtown Houston, my friend and I decided to eat here since we had passed it on the way to and away from the restroom (lol) and my god, the smell was hard to pass on. I never usually eat Filipino food but always knew they made food with great flavors. My friend and I settled on the mini kamayan, and like everyone else said, it definitely feeds 3-4 people instead of the 2 people stated on their menu. What a great value! The rice had a buttery/garlicky taste that was oh so good. The different meats within the kamayan all had their own flavors and textures. I was extremely impressed that I liked all of them. My favorite would probably be the grounded patties. The kamayan also comes with a sweet and sour sauce and gravy that compliments the meats. Shoutout to the workers there that night who really took care of me and my friend! They were the sweetest and had great energy.

Staying in a hotel a few blocks away and decided to try this place. Amazing!! We tried Mimi Kamayan - which is not mini- and loved it. Fresh cut fries are also very good. Highly recommend by us- and the other customers who we chatted with. Grandmas chicken pupu was super good.

So I'm working downtown now in the BoA tower and Understory below our building in the tunnels has some pretty great lunch options. I decided to try Flip'n Patties as I remember from when they were just a food truck, but never had the chance to try them out. I'm a burger fanatic and have very high expectations. I do try to limit my carbs, but was craving fries this day, so I opted for the burger as a salad and I'm happy this was an option for any burger. I got the Pogimelt salad and my fries of course. The fries were perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, salty and just what I needed! My enjoyed the Pogimelt salad although I couldn't finish it. The patties were a bit larger than I usually like, and could have been a bit better with a little more caramelization, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The service was friendly (I ate at the counter), and I will definitely be back! If you happen to be downtown, I'd definitely stop by Understory to give them a try.

Great good. Fast service. Love every bit. The burger I got reminded me of the Shack Stack at shake shack. This was much better. So much depth of flavor. Amazing burger. Must try. Burger was huge.

Spicy Chicken Pupu goodT but damn how they run out of lumpia, gave me extra rice I don't need!
    Tish P.

The food here was delicious, service was just ok. When I went, I ordered the spicy chicken pupu. It was very good but damn how they run out of lumpia! That's the one thing I'm finding out about these tunnel restaurants, if you don't go early, your choices become hella limited. I was offered extra rice that I don't need or an egg. I tried to get the counter guy to help a sista out with recommendations but I gave up cause he wasn't rude at all but neither friendly either. I just told him to surprise me and he chose extra rice. I ate the plate in the nearby shared seating and it was around 1ish so the bulk of the typical crowd had left. Also, it was a buck off, I think on Wednesdays. I'll be back for the lumpia...trust!

    Lechon Kawali Plate
    Melena S.

I was introduced to this place during a tunnel tour and they said it was some of the best Filipino food in Houston and has been named that for years so I knew I had to try it. The pictures were beautiful and the idea of lechon kawali had me firm in this decision for this place for lunch! I got a lechon kawali plate which included garlic rice. I thought it was good but very salty. Too salty for me to finish tbh. But portions and prices were excellent. I hear the burgers there are delicious so I'd come back to try them.

My BMP calamansi margarita was distinct in its tanginess. Tried the veggie lumpias and brussel sprouts. The lumpias had tangy dipping sauce that might have been dominated by calamansi. More tang than savory. The brussel sprouts were standard but had a good portion. I tried to detect whether they used fish sauce but I couldn't tell. Ordered the daing na bangus (milkfish) as my entree. They gave me the whole fish and it threw me off that it was mostly deboned since I kept looking for the bones with my tongue and teeth. Fish was nice and crispy and the dipping sauce was more savory than what came with the lumpias. The garlic rice that came with the dish was smoky from that wok hay. Probably could have used a little more soy sauce for flavouring. My favourite dish was the turon dessert (fried bananas) along with the ube ice cream. The coconut sauce they used seemed more like caramel. I haven't eaten much Filipino food so I wasn't sure how authentic the dishes were. I was expecting a little more intensity in the flavours, and I don't know if it was toned down for their customers. There were around ten customers that night. The inside was beautiful and they have a two level patio that is perfect for nights like these. The service was very nice and the kitchen was faster than I expected.

Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.

Now, onto Soy Pinoy, because this is where my senses officially took over. What pulled me in wasn't a sign or a menu--it was the aroma. The kind that makes you slow your walk and start scanning to see where it's coming from. Then I saw the display. They had several dishes laid out front and center, plated beautifully on banana leaves, looking crisp, golden, and downright tempting. At that point, it felt less like choosing food and more like being chosen by it. I ordered two dishes. The pork dish was fine--no complaints--but it didn't really wow me. Solid, but not something I'd rush back for. The real star was the whole fried red snapper. I loved that I actually got to pick the fish myself from the display up front, which already sets the tone for freshness. It came out perfectly breaded and fried to a crisp, with great crunch on the outside while the fish inside stayed tender and flavorful. It was served with a side of rice and a fish sauce with Thai chilies that really elevated the whole dish--salty, spicy, and just what it needed to cut through the richness. This is absolutely something I would order again without hesitation. Overall, Soy Pinoy knows exactly how to grab your attention--and more importantly, how to deliver when it counts. If you're walking through POST Houston hungry, good luck resisting this place. I tried... and clearly failed.

We arrived and honestly it wasn't really somewhere I would normally want to see, knowing I'm about to eat from this establishment; but hey, don't judge a book by its cover, right? They definitely need some external renovations though. NOW LETS TALK FOOD. They actually gave us 2 more Eggrolls than ordered which was really cool. The Eggrolls were actually good and the sauce that it came with was decent. The issue comes in when I get to the house and check to see that the pancit bihon has lo mein noodles in it, including PIECES OF CHICKEN. We're not sure if this is how they make their food, but we do not like this AT ALL. It also was lukewarm (not freshly cooked at all), and we don't even live that far. I feel it's lazy and unprofessional to order one thing and receive a mixture of others. It's really annoying and irritating to the point I'm not going to eat this. Additionally, it has NO FLAVOR. The meal is real INSIPID. AND they're closing in the next 7 minutes so I can't even return to get my $$ back. The prices are good though. I guess I got what I paid for. I would've appreciated paying $10 for the pancits and Eggrolls to get a delicious, hot and accurately prepared meal. My rating...TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK, I will not be ordering anything else from this place. It's unfortunate because we're big on loyalty to businesses that do us right and we like to spend money. However, first impressions are everything, and unfortunately they did not give us a good impression at all.

My father is Filipino so I was missing Filipino cuisine. This place did not disappoint. It was clean, and staff were very hospitable. We came in extra early as per Mikey's suggestion. So they were still putting out food for the lunch buffet. Although they didn't not have the sisig or my one other favorite, pork sinigang ALL of the other favorite were there to satisfy this Half Filipina

I'm not sure if she still works here, but the place honestly felt different without her welcoming smile and warm reception. We arrived just in time for breakfast (last Saturday) I ordered Bangsilog, while my cousin had the Tocilog. Service was fast as usual. I really enjoyed my Bangsilog--the bangus tasted fresh, perfectly fried, crispy on the outside while still tender and juicy inside. Unfortunately, my cousin's tocino was disappointing. The tocino was tough and tasted like it may have been leftover from previous day and simply reheated. Either that or it has been sitting in the kitchen for quite awhile. We still finished our meals. Because we were starving, but it definitely affected the experience. It also made us miss Hazel's customer service even more because if she had been there, we're pretty sure she would've handled the situation right away. I waited a while before writing this review because I wanted to be as fair as possible. The lady who served us was still very good, although it was obvious that the overall customer service experience was not quite at the same level as when Hazel was around. The biggest issue was really the tocino. Because of that, this latest visit to TJ's wasn't perfect and honestly made us wonder if it's still worth making this one our go-to spot whenever we're in the Houston area.
