We visited the Understory and played a few rounds of ping pong. After playing, we were hungry. The only place still open around 8 pm was Flip'n Patties. They are located on the lower floor with big open spaces and shared with other food stalls. I remember visiting the food truck when they are just starting years ago. They have an interesting mix of fusion Filipino food. I remembered liking their food. We ordered the Flip'n Patties burger and jeepney burger. They were huge with a thick patty. For their namesake burger, it also came with a fried portabella mushroom on top. Jeepney burger came with longanisa patty on top and tasted sweet. We were glad that we skipped the fries as we were stuffed after eating those burgers. Both of them are delicious and highly recommended. They also have rice pates with different combination of meats. Service was quick and friendly. We waited for our food at a nearby table. They call your name when it's ready. You also have an option to sit at the counter and watch as your food is made. Look forward to checking out the rest of their menu next time we are in the area.
Delicious Filipino fusion burgers. As part of Understory food hall downtown, there's plenty of seating as well a handful of seats at the counter. Seating at the counter you get a front row seat to the vibey upbeat atmosphere where the Filipino cooks clearly enjoy infusing flavor into the burgers. The generous sized burgers are tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. If you order a side of fries, you end up with a mountain of food. It's a little on a pricey side, but on par with the offerings from Understory / other offerings downtown of that caliber.
Fast and friendly service and the food is deeeeeelicious. Love that I can get Filipink comfort food downtown. Lechon kawali plate is my favorite, but they have alot of other options.
Flip'n Patties is a Filipino-American fusion restaurant with two locations in Houston. The menu has several Filipino-influenced burgers with bao for buns! One can also order a garlic rice dish, chicken wings, or fries! There is plenty of variety. When I dined at Flip'n Patties there were several menu items that were unavailable because they had run out of certain ingredients - aka. Rice and mushrooms. But, what I did order was delicious! I ordered the Puet burger - Wagyuru beef, diced pecan smoked pork butt, sautéed onions, provolone, house blend mayo, and FnP tang sauce. It was flip'n good! Paired with the Flip'n fries (which I got upgraded to a large for free thanks to the Friday special), I had a HUGE and tasty meal. The fries were massive, crisp, and covered in shredded cheese and banana ketchup aioli. Let's just say, I shared with a friend and still had lots of leftovers to bring home. The service was great. Kiko was very friendly, gave us suggestions on what to order and got our food out to us fast! The food hall was pretty empty when I went, but this could have been because it was the week of Christmas. There was plenty of seating. The area was kept clean, but there were cleansing towels to wipe down tables at the trash cans, if necessary. Note: This location is in a food hall downtown in the Bank of America building. Be prepared to either pay for parking in a garage or spend time searching for street parking (which you will still have to pay for at the meter if it is before 6PM). I was able to park in the Bank of America garage and get my parking validated by Flip'n Patties, but that was only because it was after 4PM.
Flip n' patties was one of the few burger places that caught my eye with its uniqueness. They add a Filipino twist to their burgers and have some special cultural diahes as well. I thought their location in memorial was too far but they actually have a location in downtown in the Understory. I didn't know what the understory was before but it is actually really nice inside with a ton of entertainment such as ping pong tables. I got the puet burger which is an akaushi beef patty topped with marinated pecan smoked pork butt, caramelized onions, provolone, mayo, and flip n patties tang sauce. That day I also learned that puet means butt. I got a side of flip n fries as well. They were loaded with shredded cheddar, spicy sauce, banana ketchup aioli, and cilantro. The beef patty could've been more moist but the smoked pork butt was perfection. It added a lot of flavor and was much more tender. I could eat a burger with that to replace my beef patty. The fries were really solid as well. They were cut thick and the sauce was actually a bit spicy. The portion size was really big as well, enough to feed 2 or more people. I also tried the lechon kawali and it was pretty good. It had a crispy exterior with a lot of fat inside and it paired well with the mang tomas sauce. One of my friends got the chicken pupu plate and I didn't try it but it looks like it would smack. My other friend flip rolls (lumpia) and liked it but they thought it was small. Overall a pretty solid place and a lot of options. Parking in the Bank of America parking garage is only $8 on the weekend and it's elevator goes straight to the understory
The food is all right for a quick office lunch. The waiting time for food preparation is kind of long. Like the new renovated environment.
Flip 'n Patties is quality Filipino fusion food in Houston. It's not the typical, authentic Filipino food that I'm used to eating, but I guess that's the whole point of it being "fusion." Service is great, and food is very flavorful. We ordered the chicken pupu plate and flip 'n fries. The chicken was crunchy, sweet and was a perfect complement to the spicy, umami fries. Pro tip is to add the chicken on top of the fries to make it loaded and an explosion of flavors. I'm pretty picky about my fries and these fries were the fresh version, like Five Guys/Wing stop fries. They were soft on the inside and crispy on the out. Overall, recommend this place especially for a cheat meal. We'll be back to try their burgers.

Located in the food court at Understory in downtown Houston, my friend and I decided to eat here since we had passed it on the way to and away from the restroom (lol) and my god, the smell was hard to pass on. I never usually eat Filipino food but always knew they made food with great flavors. My friend and I settled on the mini kamayan, and like everyone else said, it definitely feeds 3-4 people instead of the 2 people stated on their menu. What a great value! The rice had a buttery/garlicky taste that was oh so good. The different meats within the kamayan all had their own flavors and textures. I was extremely impressed that I liked all of them. My favorite would probably be the grounded patties. The kamayan also comes with a sweet and sour sauce and gravy that compliments the meats. Shoutout to the workers there that night who really took care of me and my friend! They were the sweetest and had great energy.
So I'm working downtown now in the BoA tower and Understory below our building in the tunnels has some pretty great lunch options. I decided to try Flip'n Patties as I remember from when they were just a food truck, but never had the chance to try them out. I'm a burger fanatic and have very high expectations. I do try to limit my carbs, but was craving fries this day, so I opted for the burger as a salad and I'm happy this was an option for any burger. I got the Pogimelt salad and my fries of course. The fries were perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, salty and just what I needed! My enjoyed the Pogimelt salad although I couldn't finish it. The patties were a bit larger than I usually like, and could have been a bit better with a little more caramelization, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The service was friendly (I ate at the counter), and I will definitely be back! If you happen to be downtown, I'd definitely stop by Understory to give them a try.
Staying in a hotel a few blocks away and decided to try this place. Amazing!! We tried Mimi Kamayan - which is not mini- and loved it. Fresh cut fries are also very good. Highly recommend by us- and the other customers who we chatted with. Grandmas chicken pupu was super good.
Great good. Fast service. Love every bit. The burger I got reminded me of the Shack Stack at shake shack. This was much better. So much depth of flavor. Amazing burger. Must try. Burger was huge.
I was introduced to this place during a tunnel tour and they said it was some of the best Filipino food in Houston and has been named that for years so I knew I had to try it. The pictures were beautiful and the idea of lechon kawali had me firm in this decision for this place for lunch! I got a lechon kawali plate which included garlic rice. I thought it was good but very salty. Too salty for me to finish tbh. But portions and prices were excellent. I hear the burgers there are delicious so I'd come back to try them.
I feel like they kinda fell off from when I first started working downtown til now I'm back after 3 years away. One of the guys was friendly who answered my questions but the one who actually ended up taking my order wasn't at all. But then the food. I would have for sure lost a tooth or two if I kept eating their "crispy pork belly." It was so hard!!! I really wasted my coins cause I gave up. Even the lumpia wasn't as good as I remembered. read more

Great burgers. Had the original flip n Pattie. The crispy portabella mushrooms simply works. Flavor wasn't too over bearing for the beef and other seasonings. It is a large and heavy burger though. The hand cut fries were plentiful and crispy. For downtown, I feel like they need a smaller manageable burger, we don't need to go into food coma getting back into the office. If they dial it down a bit on the size, it would be a perfect meal read more

For one it's in the tunnels. That was super cool. The burgers were cooked to order, juicy, messy, and huge. Amazing. We chatted with the owner while we weee there, very good people. They have another location further west of downtown that I'll probably try. Definitely recommend! read more

Came to Understory with my friends for Tuesday night free lotteria and $1 tacos from La Taquiza. Parking can be validated for 2 hours if you make a purchase after 4 pm! The lumpia were small but crunchy on the outside. Hard to describe the flavor of the filling. The vampries have a garlic salt coverings that was so yummy! If you don't like extra seasoned fries I would not recommend it. I wish they were a bit more crispy but I think the amount and size were worth the price. The workers were nice and let me know my food was ready when I was walking around. read more
Why 5 stars? Because this was a delicious feast. --- --- --- My friends and I were going to a comedy show nearby and picked this out for a pre-show dinner. We nearly came here last time we were meeting downtown, so I was really excited to finally make it happen. My initial thoughts are: it would be a challenge to come here and eat lightly. I ordered the Flip 'n Patties Burger and the Flip 'n Fries and I felt like I did not need to eat again for 8 days. And I am a person who can eat an embarrassing amount of food. I should have gone pro. But this is not a situation where it's about all quantity. Quality played a major role in this meal. I loved every bite of it. I was not sure how I felt about a giant fried mushroom on the burger, but it was excellent. All of it. The only thing that I didn't absolutely love was the flan I ordered for dessert. I really wanted to try their Halo Halo, but they were sold out. The flan was fine, but nothing that really stood out. Flip 'n Patties is located in a food hall Downtown called Understory. Not to be confused with the food hall that also has "Under" in its name (Underground Hall) or the food hall that has the same aesthetic as Understory called Finn Hall. When I saw the name, I assumed I was going to Underground Hall. When I walked in, I assumed, "no, I guess this is that other, nicer food hall." Nope to both. This is Understory: copier of names and styles of other neighboring food halls. On a Friday at around 6pm, Flip 'n Patties was the only vendor that was open in here. Hopefully that's not normally the case, but this was a cool spot... despite the aforementioned copy catting. read more
I made the walk today to Understory to check out this spot. I took a few moments to look over the menu they had posted before deciding whether or not to get in line. One of the entrances to the Downtown Tunnel was nearby, a couple of folks walked out and the dude goes "oh this place is good" and they immediately got in line. After hearing that statement and observing the line grow, I decided to join it before it got too long. I ordered the Chicken Pupu with Garlic Rice and Fliprolls. Lady taking the order asked if I wanted it regular or spicy. I requested spicy. Order was ready in 15 minutes, which I felt was a nice response time. Ate some there and took the remainder back to the office. Meal was good and had some flavor to it, but it was nowhere near spicy. Fliprolls were awesome and I'd definitely order those on my next visit. My meal was nice and filling, at some point I'll make the walk again and try more items from their menu. Also wanted to note (and I may do this next time) that they accept online orders so that your lunch can be ready soon as you walk up. They'll put the order in a bag labeled with your name so that you can just walk up, grab it and go. Quite useful for those who don't have much time on their hands and need to keep it moving. read more

This place markets itself as a Filipino-style burger joint, but the burgers themselves suggest otherwise. I had a feeling of deja vu while I was eating my Jeepney, that it tastes just like every other burger restaurant I've since tried. I don't get enough "Filipino" from my burger. Still a good burger joint, just don't expect these burgers to taste "authentically Filipino". read more
First time at understory and I forgot they had a Flip 'n Patties here! Haven't had them in so long, so I had to try it out. First impressions: Understory is a super nice place to come get lunch, study or pickup dinner. Flip n Pattie's is tucked in the back corner, super nice area! Love the designs and all the menu items! Service: Service is always bomb at both restaurants, they handle you food with love! Food: I had to get the Amboy with spicy sauce! This was (and still is) my go to! I also got a side of flip n fries! When I say we ate this food in less than 10 minutes, I'm not lying. It's that good! Of course they have other options on the menu, but anything you choose, I know you'll love! read more

Found this spot while roaming around downtown. Very unexpected location inside the Bank of America building but it's really cool in the understory. I love the Filipino fusion, great concept. We split the Amboy burger: Akaushi beef, bacon, cheddar cheese, green leaves, tomatoes, onions, pickles, ketchup & house-blend mayo. The burger was delicious I just wish the bun was a little sturdier. After each bite the juices just made the bun soggy and I ended up taking it off and just eating the patty lol. I usually don't put tomatoes on my burger but it slipped my mind. I'm sure that would've helped lessen the juices, note to self for next time. Fries are fat, steak fries and sooo good. I love fries and ketchup, sometimes I crave it. I took the fries home with me and threw in the broiler to bring the crisp back. Yum. Check them out! read more

For as long as I could remember, Flip 'n Patties has been the white whale on my culinary wish list. I used to go to Downtown Houston for work with the place on my brain, but for some strange reason or another, I would end up somewhere else for lunch. Well, today -- my last day as a thirtysomething -- I finally did it. I finally ate at Flip 'n Patties. And it was worth all those times I put it off because I had died and went to Pinoy food heaven. I pop my cherry with the establishment with an order consisting of a Longsilog Plate and a BAR-B-SKEW App. I admit, I expected to get something that I could consume in less than five minutes (read: small portions), but that wasn't the case. The Longsilog Plate was assembled with a solid garlic toasted rice to longganisa patty ratio. Topped off with a fried egg and a couple of lumpiang shanghai, the meal transported me back to the balmy summer mornings in the Philippines of my youth. Though smaller than the Longsilog Plate (it's an appetizer, after all), the real star of the show was the BAR-B-SKEW. The quintessential Filipino street food was made with lots of TLC. I don't know if it's the marinade or the method of how it's cooked, but each bite was a fiesta of flavor and tenderness. The dude who owns and operates the Downtown branch of Flip 'n Patties told me it's the item he's most proud of. And he should be. If I could, I would order his supply for that day. Haha! I'm aware that Flip 'n Patties started out as a food truck before transitioning to the brick and mortar game. That's usually a sign that people highly demand what the truck has to offer in a sit-down setting. I don't know when I'll find my way to Downtown because COVID, but should I return sooner than later, I'll have to remind myself to drop by this awesome Filipino eatery a second time. read more

We had been wanting to try this place for a while and our expectations were exceeded . Flip n patties is in a food hall downtown. I recommend you go on a weekday for parking. There is a parking garage but we had a whole thing with that and likely won't park there again. Now for the food. We got the mini kamayan, the vampries , and the Flip n burger. The fries were thick cut but soft and airy, with a pungent salty garlic flavor. There were three meats on the mini kamayan: pupu chicken, hamburger patties, and longanisa (they were out of lechon so they added extra chicken). The pupu chicken had an amazing spice mix on it that was earthy and sweet with a nice crunchy fry. The hamburger patties were seasoned with garlic and pepper, I could eat a ton of those. The longanisa texture was so so but the flavor was amazing. All of that on top of the most delicious bed of garlic rice with furikake. We ate it all. We didn't stop there bc we have a problem. We also had the flip n burger with a giant fried mushroom on top. That patty was also well seasoned, fresh and juicy. Don't know what buns they use but they were pillowy and just a little sweet. A very satisfying burger. For the quality of food and serving size, what we got is worth the price. I definitely recommend this place and will be back to try more! read more

If you're in need of some amazing Filipino food this spot is for you! I initially tried this spot when I went on @astroville food tour for my bday last year. I finally made my way back to try them out again. They were really good the first time but they were even better this time . I ordered the Chicken Pupu which is one of their popular dishes. The flavor was so ever present in every single bite . The rice has the garlic flavor that pairs well with somewhat sweet flavor of the chicken. The crust has this perfect crisp to it. I cannot wait to return. read more

Wow glad to know this location is close to my school, best believe I'll be a regular here! I love the other location and this spot is just as great even though it's located among other restaurants inside a building tower. Their food boasts of authentic Filipino flavors while simultaneously proving their own mix up to their menu. I love their burgers and fries. Their garlic rice is fireworks in my mouf. HEYHEYHEY! So Flip 'n Patties is probably best known for their burgers, and while I applaud their original ideas on the dish, the execution of it is whatever to me. Choice of bun is a bit powdery and patty didn't feel like anything special. I had the Puet burger with chopped pork butt and while it WAS good, I've had better out there. *[inhale]* Now let's talk about the Mini Kamayyan. First of all, do follow their recommendation and eat it with your hands if you're game. My hands feel gross very quickly so I ate it with a spoon lol. Still, that one bite I ate with my hands really elevated the experience. (You're supposed to spin the garlic rice into a ball in your hand, dip a piece of meat in sauce and then have them together at once.) That being said, if there's ONE thing that I'll remember Flip 'n Patties for, it'll be their garlic rice. It's SOOOOOO *beep*ing good! Honestly, the whole kamayyan was smoky and very authentic but in a GOOD way. You can just SEE the Asian auntie behind it even if you ordered it for delivery, yet it never dipped into the "too authentic" land of too much MSG or oily dim sum. Instead, it actually reminded me a lot of cơm tấm (Vietnamese broken rice). Their garlic rice recipe and the "Bar-B-Skews" (without any skews) really contributed a lot to that, and if there wasn't anything else in the tray I'd consider it "cơm tấm but better". Truly Southeast Asian. Oh and the Lechon Kawali is so crispy oh my gosh! Definitely gourmet Chinese BBQ material. I kinda hate leaving 4-star reviews for places like these just because I know I'll be lowering their average rating for no other reasons than that's just how my rating system works lol. Flip 'n Patties is a solid B Tier in my list, which maps to 4 stars so 4 stars it is. I do want to reiterate that this means I liked it "better than most" places, though. I got tired of hotel food so I ventured out a couple blocks away. I ordered ahead for pick up. I had to wait a few minutes but it gave me a chance to take in the scene. You have to go down one level of the BofA building to the food court. On a Tuesday during lunch hour, it is quite busy. I had the pork belly and egg rolls with garlic fried rice. It came with two sauces, sweet chili and garlic vinegar. The description promised Mang Tomas, but alas, it was not included. I was disappointed because Mang Tomas is essential to the whole Filipino lechon experience. Nevertheless, the food tasted great and the vinegar sauce was good enough for both egg rolls and pork belly. It was definitely better than hotel food. read more
