We've lost too many old-school, no frills spots with great food, to aesthetic places with mid food. I would prefer a place with great food that isn't the prettiest, over the heavily designed newer spots that have food that makes you wish you came to a place like Super Sub instead. Always very friendly staff, great old school subs, no wonder they won best of 2026, best sandwich. And many awards years prior! The owner is especially hospitable and I feel appreciated every time I come here. As I drove up, I was really excited about this spot. I found parking on the street about a block away. It was shortly after 11 on a Friday morning. I took some time reviewing the menu at the window. I ordered a French Connection and a Midtown. Both were really good. Of course, I appreciated the Vienna Beef dogs and the poppy seed buns. I wanted more seagull special sauce on the Midtown but the French Connection was really excellent. I ended up sitting outside to enjoy my meal. I enjoyed watching the steady stream of customers. I can tell that this is a spot that the community loves and supports and I can see why. I'd definitely return if I'm in the area to try the smashburgers and one of the other hot dog variations. You can tell the fresh, rosy-pink, soft & flavorful beef is very high quality BUT the sandwich overall was not as impressive as I expected it to be in relation to the hype. I've had others where I was blown away by the taste/flavor after the first bite which is what I expected here, but it did not happen! Don't get me wrong, it was still a good/decent legitimate North Shore roast beef sandwich, but certainly NOT worth waiting in line for (in my opinion). My pet peeve, is that they have all these signs that say that the booths are saved for 2 people or more, and there are often booths with just one person working.
